The lobster tail was also delicious, although it was a little too salty for my taste. The creamed corn and mashed potatoes were AMAZING and definitely some of our favorite dishes of the night. The staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They were always keeping an eye on our glasses and came by often to refill them, which made the experience feel extra special. I had high expectations based on the reviews, but unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the hype. The restaurant itself is beautiful and in a great location, but the food, service, and overall experience were disappointing. I ordered the filet medium rare, and it came out extremely burnt on the outside while still very undercooked and almost bleeding in the center. When I mentioned it, they initially offered to "throw it back on the grill," but since the outside was already burnt, I declined and asked for a fresh steak. The replacement took about 30 minutes, after we had already waited roughly 40 minutes for our original food. We also rarely saw our server throughout the meal, although his assistant was very kind and attentive. The potatoes and asparagus were overcooked, lacked flavor, and overall the sides were underwhelming as well. What surprised me most was still being charged for the steak after it took two attempts and I barely ate it. For a restaurant with such strong reviews and a high price point that comes with it, I expected much better quality and service. Came here Thursday night and place was pretty busy. Parking can be tricky, but valet is a great option. Nice feel to the place and looks like would be good just for drinks as well. Ordered the rob eye which was cooked perfectly as well as the pork chop. Crab cake was super meaty, maybe not $31 worth but I'm glad I got it. Overall nothing bad on this menu, but I knocked it a star because our service wasn't the best. And we sat one booth away from the kitchen but it seemed like our server kept going the long way just to avoid us. We ended up having to stop the manger to get some things. Leaving 4 stars today, although my real rating is probably closer to 3.5. Something definitely feels different at Old Brea Chop House since I moved away four years ago and recently returned to OC. Maybe I've gotten spoiled by some of the great Vegas steakhouses like Bavette's, where the food and service are consistently fantastic, but tonight's experience at Old Brea felt a little off. We were seated against the wall with a great view of the dining room and bar, and the first thing I noticed was the lighting over the bar. The large, round tube-style fixtures really took away from the atmosphere. The light was much cooler and harsher than the warm, sultry lighting throughout the rest of the restaurant and honestly reminded me a little of fluorescent convenience-store lighting. It sounds minor, but from where I was sitting, it was surprisingly distracting. Service was also a little clunky. We started with one server and then, midway through dinner, another server seemed to take over. I'm used to steakhouses where servers work as a team, but usually that's communicated from the beginning. Here, the transition seemed unexpected and resulted in a few communication misses. Two of the three people at our table were celebrating birthdays, for example, but our second server had no idea. Not a huge deal on its own, but those little service touches matter--especially at a higher-end restaurant and when you're celebrating something. To her credit, once I mentioned the two birthdays, she graciously took care of our ice cream and birthday dessert without hesitation. I appreciated that, although the overall experience still felt a little disjointed and took some of the air out of the celebration. As for the food, there were definitely some highlights. The bread basket was delicious, and waters came out immediately. We started with the clams, which were a special appetizer that evening. I love steamers and order them pretty often, but unfortunately I didn't care for this preparation. The sherry made the broth sweeter than I prefer, rather than bright and crisp, and the clams themselves were tiny, with quite a few missing from their shells. When steamers are really good, I usually want to soak up every last bit of broth with the bread. I didn't have that urge here. The Braised Short Ribs, however, were a completely different story. Hearty, flavorful, and falling right off the bone. Absolutely no notes--10/10. I also tried the Center Cut Ribeye. The inside was cooked to the requested medium, so no complaints about temperature, but the exterior was overly charred and tasted burnt in spots. The steak had good flavor but was also a little chewy and fibrous, which was disappointing. The broccolini and sautéed spinach were both prepared well and complemented the entrées nicely. The sea bass was another standout--soft, buttery, flaky, and perfectly prepared. Unfortunately, the steak and clams ended up being the two most underwhelming dishes of the evening. One other small service suggestion: when a table is celebrating a birthday, it would be nice for the server to explain what the complimentary birthday dessert is when dropping off the dessert menu. Aside from simply knowing what's coming, someone could have an allergy or dietary restriction. That said, the chocolate birthday dessert was very good and beautifully presented, with a soft, creamy center that reminded me of whipped ganache. Of the ice creams and sorbets, the passion fruit/pineapple was easily my favorite. I'm normally a lemon sorbet girl, but this one was much too tart for me. Overall, there were some excellent dishes--the short ribs and sea bass especially--and I appreciated how our second server handled the birthday desserts once she knew we were celebrating. But between the inconsistent service, atmosphere details, and disappointing steak and clams, the evening didn't quite have the polished feel I remembered from Old Brea Chop House. read more

First timer for the Old Brea Chop House and I cannot wait to go back. I recommend making reservations if you can because it was quite busy. I looked online for a dress code but didn't see an official policy on their website. Most folks were dressed up, but I saw some more casual outfits too so I wouldn't stress too much about it. Here is what we ordered: - Bread: Fist basket is complimentary and any additional refills are $8 per basket. One is more than enough for two people. They had an assortment of three different breads and all were tasty. - Jidori Chicken Schnitzel: This is a thinly sliced, breaded, chicken breast topped with capers and served with a charred half lemon and a lemon/butter sauce on the side. It was juicy and the breading added a nice crunch. Amazing flavor and I would order this again. - Center Cut Ribeye (Medium Rare): The steak was served with some roasted garlic and rosemary and was cooked perfectly. - Potatoes Au Gratin: The flavor for the potatoes au gratin was there, but I wish the potatoes were sliced more thinly. They were too chunky and I felt some bits needed to be cooked a little longer. - Brussels Sprouts: This is THEE side to order. The bacon steak is an add on for $10. Pricey, but necessary. They were so good and we couldn't get enough. - Butter Cake: If you know about Maestro's famous butter cake, then this is strong competition if not on par with Maestro's. Once I got closer to the center it was dry and gray, no more pink. I mentioned this to the waitress and she agreed it was medium well. Oscar the manager came to apologize and instead of offering to take the steak off the bill, he asked if he should take just half off. I'm assuming he was insinuating that I had already eaten a portion of it. I told him he can do whatever he wants. At this point I think, he realized how rude his question was. He began apologizing profusely and shook my hands several times. Managers are the one that usually fix situations, not make a situation worse. Food rating for this visit is 4/5, but when you factor in Oscar it's a 2/5 experience. I really like this restaurant and I'll probably be back. Came here for lunch at 1 pm on our 38th wedding anniversary. The place was practically full of well dressed business types. Even the staff were impeccably dressed. We were seated right away in a booth. We ordered their prefixe lunch for $45 for two - choice of Cesar or mixed green salad and several selections of sandwiches (chimichurri steak, prime rib, blue cheese burger or old chophouse burger). We chose the Cesar salad. Hubby had the blue cheese burger with crispy bacon and I had the chophouse burger with melted cheddar, lettuce, onion and tomato. Before our orders arrived, we were served a lovely small plate of vege crudités ( purple cauliflower, snap peas, baby radish, baby carrots, pearl tomatoes and a yummy ranch dip. I also tried the berry bomb drink (like a raspberry lemon drop, this may be one of my favorite drinks). I also tried the coconutz which is like a piña colada with whiskey. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate our 7 year anniversary and boy oh boy were we blown away! The service here is amazing!! The drinks were delish!! I got the Coco Nutz and it was so tasty! So fire. The steak one of the best I've ever had. We shared the 20oz Ribeye cap. It was cooked very well, with an amazing crust, flavor, and tenderness. The sides were all very good. We got the gnocchi, potatoes au gratin, and creamed corn. Gnocchi was my favorite and had very good flavor (very rich with the mushrooms). The potatoes were tasty but got a bit neglected competing with the gnocchi. Both dishes were very heavy. The creamed corn was very tasty and was a nice switch up from the other sides. We finished off with the butter cake. I'm not normally a cake guy, but that butter cake is something else. The caramelized layer at the top adds a nice crunch, while the cake itself has great flavor and texture. The service was great too! I really enjoyed the entire meal and have nothing bad to say. My family & I stopped here after a full day at Universal Studios. We were craving some steak and wanted to try somewhere new. This restaurant wasn't too far from our hotel so we gave it a try. Omg the little town is so cute right after sunset and a nice little walk around the town. We were obviously hungry and ordered almost half the menu haha! We had a reservation for 7:45 PM and were seated within about 10 minutes of checking in. Unfortunately, that was about the only positive part of our experience. There seemed to be some confusion with our table, as two different waiters were assisting us. The service overall was very poor, aside from our water being refilled. We had to personally let the waiter know that we were celebrating a birthday. Our food arrived after another table that had been seated after us, which was especially odd considering we had the same waiter. After finishing our meal, we again reminded the waiter that we were celebrating a birthday and were expecting the complimentary dessert. We waited approximately 30 minutes and still had not received it or any acknowledgment from the staff. At that point, we had to get a manager and ask for our bill because nobody was checking on us or acknowledging that we were still waiting. Unfortunately, this experience was very disappointing. We found this spot through Amex's Resy and decided to celebrate our anniversary here! The restaurant entrance is located inside the improv doors to the right. We checked in for the reservation and got seated pretty promptly. The waitstaff were kind and professional. We decided to order the Brussel sprouts as our appetizer and they were delicious. I had the 12oz skirt steak with a side of prawns. You get 3 prawns for $9. The steak was cooked to medium rare as requested, but it was salty as all hell. We also shared a side of wild & field mushrooms, which were also fairly salty. We did not bring this to the attention of the staff however, because we hate to send food back. The whole head of grilled garlic was a major bonus though! The rainbow trout was full of bones, but that's to be somewhat expected. They wipe your table and take crumbs in between courses, which is nice. However, I happened to visit the ladies room and came back to wet seat after they wiped the table. This was dissatisfying. At the end, we were offered a chocolate budino cup to celebrate our anniversary. It was delicious and we're grateful the restaurant helped us celebrate, our waitress even offered to take our photo. There are not too many places in the immediate area like this. The only other place similar would be The Summit House. You could throw The Cellar in the mix, but I'd rather not. That place feels dated and claustrophobic, so I don't like to recommend it. If you are looking to go to a more upscale place with better service, then check this place out. In any case, I've always have great experience coming here. The food and service is always great and consistent. This is definitely a place that caters towards meat eaters, less than vegetarians, but there are options for us non-meat-eaters. I usually order the Cauliflower Steak, which is one of the best that I have had. The beat salad is also very good. They have a bunch of sides you could also order to get you through the meal. But don't expect any entres that cater toward vegetarians. The menu is all meat and the specials were all seafood. The drinks here are what you expect to find at a place like this. I always get the Old fashion. Its good, but nothing to write home about. Pricing is what you would expect. Its a nicer restaurant so expect to pay. Glasses of wine are around $20 dollars, but the pours are generous. We arrived at 5:20 PM on a Saturday evening and found seating at the bar. Didn't have any reservations. YMMV. read more

We couldn't find a reservation so we chanced it on a Friday night. They offered open seating at the bar - if sitting in the back behind the bottles, it's full service. Fortunately, when we arrive, they had two seats available at the bar area so we were seated immediately. Our servers, Sam and Andre, were very attentive. They greeted us almost immediately with water. And got drink orders in a timely manner. My drink was not very good, hence I don't remember the name - something something Fist (Strawberry with tajin). We also had an old fashioned and that was delicious. The tomahawk was tasty, well cooked. The barbecue shrimp was full of flavor, the bread helped absorbed all the yummy goodness. We've always considered ourselves regulars at Chop House and truly love the experience, but unfortunately, today really soured that for me. We had a 3:30 reservation and were seated early, ordering three appetizers (caviar, the special fried rice, and bone marrow) along with two entrees. While the bread and caviar arrived promptly, we were left waiting roughly 40 minutes for our hot appetizers to follow. During this time, a table seated after us was already deep into their main courses. A manager did come over to apologize and mentioned internal issues in the kitchen, and while we appreciated the transparency, we expected a bit more in terms of a resolution at this price point. When the rest of the apps finally arrived, we were so hungry we just dug in. I had specifically asked the waitress for the mushrooms on the side of the fried rice, but they came mixed in anyway. I didn't even bring it up because we were just too hungry to wait any longer. After some more time passed, we asked if our entrees were close. Our waiter then asked if we still wanted a "traditional three-course progression" for our meal. Under normal circumstances, absolutely! But not after a 40-minute gap between the cold and hot appetizers. At that stage, the pacing was already non-existent. The final straw was seeing tables that arrived way after us already settling their checks. We completely lost our appetite and decided to cancel the rest of the order. They were very gracious about it and only charged us for the caviar, which we did appreciate. This has never happened to us here before, but at a high-end steakhouse, you're paying for consistency as much as the food. Tonight fell extremely short of that standard. I left very disappointed, especially since we always order caviar and some form of steak. I really hope they can fix whatever internal issues are going on. read more

We got seated next to bar area so it was rather cramped. The menu was classic steakhouse food. For beverages we had hot tea, sparkling water, champagne and martinis, also espresso shots. The food was very fresh and delicious, portions were good as well. I did see a parking lot in the rear of the restaurant but was unsure if it was valet I elected for the crab benedict. They actually had a fair amount of crab in the middle of the benedict and the sauce on top wasn't thick so it was pretty good. The side salad was great as it was a refreshing side to the benedict. I did order a side of shrimp as well. The service here was really good, as they come by regularly to refill water. TLDR: food gets worse and worse every time I visit, reservations required First of all, I have zero complaints about the service. In fact, everyone is so kind and professional. My qualms are with the food. The vegetables are never properly cooked or seasoned. The steak is burnt and cooked to a wrong temperature. The dessert is poorly made and served without a care. Came here for a business lunch and was very impressed. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and clean. You definitely need a reservation otherwise you're gonna have to wait a while. I had the lobster grilled cheese and it was absolutely amazing!!!!! Our table shared various sides which was very good. And I had the bacon steak....OMG!!!!!!!! It was a party popping off in my mouth. My mouth was happy and stomach was happier. Definitely get this as an appetizer to share. You will NOT regret it. Fantastic meal. Went for my mom's 80th birthday and we weren't disappointed. Raw oysters: delicious and fresh Caviar: so good. Interesting little toasts they serve with it (used to blinis). Gave us a refill when we ran out. Porterhouse: huge! And cooked perfectly medium rare. Came with 2 sides of our choice and butter cake for dessert. Short ribs: delicious. My sister who eats like a bird finished the whole dish. Ribeye add lobster meat: the birthday girl wanted steak and lobster, so that's what she got! Cooked perfectly and she was very happy. Rack of lamb: sooooo good. Cooked medium rare. Great flavor. Came with a whole head of roasted garlic. SIDES: Gnocchi: Good flavor, big portion Broccolini: deliciously roasted Asparagus: very good with hollandaise Creamed corn: fantastic sweet creamy corn Butter cake: good portion! Wish it wasn't dusted with sugar crystals Carrot cake: massive slice. So yummy. Could have been a little more moist. Birthday dessert: chocolate mousse with coulis, I think (my mom didn't share lol!!!)--delicious, not too sweet. Bomb berry cocktail: red berry vodka, lemon, muddled raspberry. Too easy to drink lol. Also ordered the non-alcoholic version and it was really refreshing. Attentive and friendly service by all. Ambiance was so nice. Great vibes at the chop house. It's dim inside during dinner if that's your vibe. Not particularly mine but I get it. I got the prime 850 dry aged ribeye. Seasoning and the cook was spot on with a nice crust. For sides we got the ricotta gnocchi (8.5/10), wild and field mushrooms (7/10), broccolini (8.5/10) and crispy Brussels sprouts (9/10). To Management, Do better! I really wanted to celebrate a 23rd birthday celebration here, we had reservations for 4 on Sunday because their online website doesn't allow to enter more than 4 people. So I called on Saturday to add one more person to our 4:30 reservation and was told we would have to come at 3:15 now. So I said, this is a birthday celebration and I work til 4, do you not have a table for 5 at 4:30? The response was, we do but the next set reservation for that table is at 6:15 and we don't want you to feel rushed. I said we will be finished by 6 pm easily. The lady on the phone came back and said the earliest they could do was 3:15. Sad. We really wanted to visit Old Brea ChopHouse again but made reservations at The Ranch in Anaheim instead. You know a place is good when I don't capture all the photos. I started to and then all the food looked so good that we all dug in without thinking of taking anymore photos. I'm vegetarian so this is mostly a vegetarian review. We came for brunch, which ends at 1pm. I got the Benedict and subbed the meat for avocado. It was good. Their soft boiled eggs are so good. I THINK their Mac n cheese is cooked in bacon fat. That was a bit of a bummer for me but I know it's silly to go to a steak house as a vegetarian so I'm thankful for their other options. They even offer cauliflower steak and a bunch of sides you could choose from. Beat salad was good but a bit strong with the onion/garlic (not sure what it was-but maybe it's because I'm more sensitive since I don't eat onion and garlic). ** I'm editing this to add that the Mac n cheese is in fact vegetarian and was so good that it tasted like it was cooked in a rich fat but it was smoked Gouda!** :) Their raspberry drink was really good. I had it as a mocktail. With alcohol, they make it taste so yummy you barely even know the alcohol is there. My friends loved the half shell oysters and their steaks. They said oysters, especially the vinegar, and the steaks here are the best. Service was amazing by anyone involved. The owner Oscar was also super sweet and attentive. I loved that. Parking was okay during the day but I hear it's pretty difficult in the evening. However there are plenty of surrounding lots. If you get lucky, you can get parking in their lot. Otherwise there's valet for $8 I believe. Our whole party of 4 had to be present before being seated. Overall the whole experience and the taste/quality of the food makes me want to go back tomorrow.
