It's a Saturday and husband was ready for sushi. I had another place in mind, but they didn't take reservations and we're not about to chance it and wait. So we found this place and it was in the same vicinity and yay, they took reservations. Made reservations same day for a 18:30 seating. Service is impeccable. We were welcomed with hot towels, and this impressed me: when our server asked if we wanted cold or hot water. Love it! We opted for hot, better for digestion :) Our libation: Kubota sake - semi dry, rich, clean Our dishes: Assorted sashimi (16 pcs) - omakase. No soy sauce needed. Chef prepared with delicious flavors in mind. Tiger scallops - served in a what appears to resemble petrified wood, carved into a long boatlike dish. Hokkaido shrimp, cilantro oil, chilaquita (Peruvian onion relish), sweet potato crisp, smoke aji Amarillo (Peruvian yellow chili) Leche de tigre (rich emulsion of limes, Peruvian spices and chilis) - A complexity of flavors that comes together so completely. Eat with spoon. The delicate potato crisp finishes the bite with a little crunch. Udon picante - bell peppers, quinoa and 2 jumbo shrimp. Love the heat level. Comfort food at its best. Salmon parmesan - Nikkei sushi - seared salmon, parmesan bitter, eel sauce , arare, lime. Amazing. O toro sushi - the fattiest cut of tuna. Eat as is. Again chef prepared. No added seasoning required. Parri maki - fried shrimp, cream cheese, seared tuna topped with chimichurri, aji amarillo, chalaquita, ponzu. Food experience was enhanced by their impeccable taste in music. Super chill, soft beats stream the restaurant. With its perfect lighting too sets all the good moods for us. Don't wait for this fine dining experience of Japanese and Peruvian fusion. Note: when they ask if you want soy sauce, say No, thank you. The fish quite literally melts in your mouth, and every dish is top-notch, from flavor to presentation. Highly recommend coming to this spot for any occasion! My boyfriend and I came here on a Thursday night to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. The experience felt very special, as they seated us in front of the chefs and explained each dish to us before serving. I was happy that there was a parking structure close by to the restaurant, located in Downtown Fullerton. The restaurant is dimly lit, with the best lo fi cover songs. I used my Shazam quite often during my time here. I enjoyed the Japanese and Peruvian fusion, such a great combination of flavors that complimented each other. It was cool to see the asian chefs speak fluent Spanish with a mix of Japanese! Every dish was well-dressed, to perfection. I was excited to see each dish come out! Came here for my birthday dinner with the wife. We got the ceviche which was very look like everyone recommends here. It is definitely a must get unless you are allergic to nuts. We got the nigiri omakase and it was vey good. The Peruvian fusion in our minds worked very well. The sushi chefs and the servers also explain the way it's prepared and how to eat everything. Came here for an early dinner Sunday and got seated right away without a reservation. But I highly recommend people to make reservation bc as soon as 7pm hits, they were packed. We tried two special menu (105usd and a 85usd ones) and it e got plenty of food to share between the two of us and everything came quick. For app, we got tiger scallops, shrimps with mushrooms and ceviche. The ceviche is their signature and I got right, very refreshing and flavorful and fish was tender with the crushy texture from the harmonies. The scallops were very soft and melt in your mouth. The udon was good but not impressive. All the sushi and rolls were fresh and I liked that the origini came with the sauces and topping and no soy sauce needed. If you're expecting traditional Japanese sushi, I would skip this place. The seasoning was overpowering and made it hard to appreciate the natural flavor of the fish. Even the first ceviche appetizer was so aggressively seasoned it overwhelmed the palate from the start. We did the full omakase, but despite the different presentations, many courses felt repetitive. Similar ingredients and flavors kept appearing throughout the meal, so there wasn't much excitement or progression from one course to the next. This place has become one of my favorite restaurants! For my 2 year anniversary, we came here to celebrate. Being from Miami, I sorely miss eating Peruvian food. With Japanese food being one of my favorite cuisines, this fusion was a delight. Since we were celebrating, we opted for the omakase at the bar. We were lucky to snag a couple seats at the bar with no reservation but it was a Thursday night. The journey Riccardo took us on was beyond delightful. I wholeheartedly believe no one does ceviche and seafood better than Peruvians. Riccardo made the statement abundantly clear. Their ceviche took me back home to Miami. Once I tasted the authenticity, I knew I had to try their Causa. I wish I had time to talk about each dish but each course was delicious! Tried Akashiro in Fullerton recently and had a pretty good experience overall. The food was interesting and the quality was definitely there. Everything we ordered was well prepared and tasted fresh. They didn't have the specific bottle of wine we originally wanted, but it wasn't a big deal and we ended up choosing something else that worked out fine. Service could have been a bit better in terms of attentiveness, but everyone was still friendly and welcoming. Prices weren't too bad either considering the quality of the food. It's on the darker side, maybe better for a date night than a girls night (as what I was doing). I'm sad when a Japanese restaurant doesn't offer it. $10 PERUVIAN CHOCOLATE CAKE: it's served COLD. I wish it said that on the menu. There's caramel on the bottom, then cake, then whipped cream. Didn't finish it. Small cup. Neither of us liked it. OVERALL (3/5): Sadly, I would not come back here. It's not that the food was bad, but it just wasn't my style. The parking lot seem kind of hidden and it almost looks as if the parking building is only for the apartment building around, but it is not. Feel free to drive in and park for free. I've been hearing about Akashiro for a while on social media and finally got to try it! This restaurant did not disappoint! I went with my boyfriend at around 6pm on a Friday night and there was no wait. There is a parking structure behind the restaurant that had a lot of spots available, which was also really convenient! The inside of the restaurant was a very modern and clean aesthetic. It had dim lighting with beautiful decor all around and was very clean! They also offered both tables and bar services. Our server immediately came up to us and began explaining the menu. He was so kind and I loved how for every dish he would explain it in depth! This place is more of a tapas style spot, so the of us ended up ordering about 7 dishes plus 1 dessert. We got the Peruvian ceviche, Parmesan scallops, pulpo olivo, chutoro maki, bluefin tuna tiradito, nikkei bluefin tuna, and salmon Parmesan with lucuma ice cream for dessert! We came on a friday night around 8pm, I was afraid we wouldnt get seated but surprisingly they kept seating people even at 9pm. My sister and I were excited to see peruvian cocktails, we both got the chicha morada cocktail and it was delish. I asked for a lime because I like to have a spritz of lime in my chicha morada. Not pictured but I also had a second cocktail the passion sake one and it was also good. The pulpo olivo has a smoky flavor but its very good, the chimichurri pairs well with the olive mayo. The tuna tiradito was perfectly well rounded with flavor and texture. The aji amarillo and camote chip on the nikkei tuna really made for a perfect bite. The yellowtail sashimi and sashimi platter were so good! So fresh and tender. I tend to dislike salmon as its overly fishy no matter where I go but it was delicious and fresh here with absolutely no fishy notes. One big bummer was the dry ice was placed on top of one of the pieces of sashimi so there was a little waste of food (': i appreciate the yuzu kosho dabs on the sashimi and fresh grated wasabi. The salmon belly was silky and rich without being heavy, and the yellowtail had that perfect balance of freshness and fat. The scallops were a clear highlight tender, lightly seared, and easily one of the best bites of the night. I appreciated that the flavors weren't overworked. As someone Peruvian, I'm very aware of how acidity and citrus can elevate fish or overpower it, and Akashiro mostly gets that balance right. When citrus was used, it felt intentional enhancing the fish rather than masking it. The space itself is intimate and modern, great for a date or a relaxed dinner where you actually want to talk. Service was attentive without hovering, and pacing was spot on ..dishes came out smoothly, giving you time to enjoy each one. The fusion of Peruvian and Japanese didn't really work for me. Fish was fresh and I like the flavors , my favorite was the bluefin tuna trio of course. but there was a balance there that was missing. The little corn thing was too hard for the delicate fish. The portion was tiny. The soup at the end was tasteless. But service here was impeccable. The chef and waiter were kind and accommodating. Akashiro was an incredible experience that we can't wait to come back to soon. I heard about this place from a friend and has been in my queue for a while. On a whim, we stopped on by before going to a movie. Located in Downtown Fullerton, Akashiro is on the corner of Harbor and Chapman. There is an adjacent parking structure that had a good amount of parking on the Sunday we went. We also were lucky that on this Sunday, it wasn't too hard to nab a reservation online earlier in the day. Coming into Akashiro - I loved the design of the restaurant. It had large artwork on one side drawn into the walls while the other side had neat unique artwork. What you see to the right as you enter are tables while in front is the sushi bar with three chefs. We sat at the sushi bar in front of Chef Richard who was super kind and helpful. He informed us about the restaurant concept as a Japanese Peruvian sushi joint and his background being from Japan. We ended up ordering a la carte. We did see two omakase options as well - one that was just focused on nigiri and another one that was a mixture of cooked and sushi items. Here's what we ordered! *Peruvian ceviche: Recommended by our chef, we started with the ceviche. Absolutely a delight. Tangy and a bit sour with fresh striped bass. Loved the bits of sweet potato and Peruvian corn *Pulpo Olivo: This was personally my least favorite of the bunch. Still solid and loved seeing this torched in front of us. I was personally hoping for more of a kick from the sauces, but the pulpo itself was pretty good. *Salmon Parmesan: Another excellent dish. Loved the sear and the parmesan butter was so good. *Scallop Truffle: Loved the pop quinoa on here which I thought was a nice touch. Great texture alongside the truffle and scallops. *Chutoro Maki: Super solid specialty roll. Loved the Japanese garlic in particular mixed in here. *Lacuma Souffle: Excellent dessert. Not too sweet. We never had lacuma before which was a welcome treat. Moist sponge cake filled with layers. I also had the Peruvian beer as a drink which I thought was good and didn't break the bank. This is a unique restaurant combining peruvian food and sushi and I can say the flavors gave me a very nice surprise! The atmosphere here is a bit more upscale and like fine dining. You can do omakase or order a la carte! The peruvian ceviche was citrusy, nutty and refreshing. This was my boyfriend's favorite. There's different nuts in it that I've never tasted before and they worked really well with the fish. The parmesan scallop was supposedly a popular dish so we tried ordering it. It was good but would only recommend it if you really like parmesan since the flavor of it is pretty strong. Akashiro maki's star was probably the ceviche mayo. It was light, sour and creamy! Akashiro is a Peruvian-Japanese fusion and it definitely holds up to its dedication of its fusion cuisine! Parking was easy and plentiful to find, there's a lot down the street that's about a block away or there's a parking garage behind the building that is a residential but also guest parking probably for the restaurants. I came twice--once for a La carte experience and another time to celebrate a birthday with the full omakase. My first trip I went with my family and we ordered items off the regular menu. We got a few rolls, the yucca fries, the Peruvian octopi and one of our members got the smaller omakase for $80. The yucca fries were okay! Had a great crispy outside and doughy texture but even with the sauce it was not as flavorful but that's expected I think with this root. My family member who got the omakase thought it was worth it (I don't have any photos of it attached) but I see that it's a similar feeling amongst other reviewers that it's more worth the money than the premium. The octopus appetizer is really great, flavorful, really soft and delicious which can be different from the usual chewiness we get with octopus so they did a great Peruvian version of this dish. The rolls were also really good! Affordable and tasty, I would recommend trying these out to taste some of the fusion as well. Now for the full omakase (fyi I'm missing one photo of a dish). There was about 16 food items (more like a 10 course) which for me was a good amount to feel full which I appreciated. I loved that the omakase wasn't just sushi and highlighted some tiraditos which did a fine job combining the Peruvian and Japanese flavors and really made them work together. The combination of the cultures makes sense with Peruvian side enjoying a lot of citrus and textured with their crunchy corn nuts which resembles in a way the yuzu citrus. All the fish used tonight was very fresh and presentation was beautiful. I especially loved the uni-toro(?) tart, the fish soup and the Hokkaido scallop, great flavors! The fish soup is really hearty and somehow the additives enhanced the flavor but it was great on its own too! I also had the purple corn juice, I say juice because it might be marked as a soda but it has no fizz) and that was very interesting! Tastes exactly as you'd expect. I personally think the omakase was a high price point as I've had others that for maybe a similar price had a bit more to offer, but I do appreciate that you can order the omakase somewhat casually and still get an elevated experience but I do agree with some of the other reviews who may have said to stick with the smaller omakase or rolls. Overall it was a good experience with Akashiro and I love the uniqueness of the concept and really appreciate that they stick to their passion and love for the Peruvian-Japanese fusion. It was an amazing experience!! Beautiful restaurant in the heart of downtown Fullerton. A walk in of two we sat at the bar in-front of the chefs and got the whole show. The chef described everydish which we enjoyed. As you can tell from the pictures we tried everything. Everything was fresh and flavorful, true meaning of Nikkei. Fresh seafood with lots of flavor. Some of our favorite dishes are the salmon Parmesan. Albacore Nikkei and akashiro maki. Can't wait to come back and try everything again. read more

This was my second visit to Akashiro, and honestly it reminded me exactly why I came back. I ordered the Chirashi Nikkei, and every part of it felt intentional -- almost like I was eating a little piece of art. There's rice hidden underneath, and the fish itself was incredibly fresh with such clean flavor. On top, they add this sweet potato crisp that I'm officially obsessed with... hands down my favorite part of the dish. The jumbo shrimp had a bright yuzu twist that made it super refreshing, and the blue crab Peruvian potato was so unique -- kind of like a sweet potato base with different mix-ins that made each bite interesting. Both the chirashi and the blue crab potato come with a "right way" to eat them, and honestly it made the whole experience feel even more curated and special. Akashiro really nails that balance of creativity and flavor, and I'm already thinking about what to try next time. read more

Absolutely wonderful experience! We decided to try this place out and it exceeded all expectations. To start, we had the Ceviche and Bluefin Tuna Tiradito. The ceviche was so good we wanted to drink the juice. Easily the best thing on the menu! We also tried several rolls, including the Akashiro, Chutoro, Nikkei, Parri, and Parmesan. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Service was 10000/10. Ethan took great care of us. He walked us through each dish, explained where the fish came from, and shared other thoughtful details that really elevated the entire experience! I'm not typically in the Fullerton area, but I'll absolutely be coming back. Highly recommend! read more

Tasty and fresh! We enjoyed our dinner at Akashiro. The service was wonderful and attentive. The kids loved their fried fish n' avocado bowl, fish broth soup, and special eel/avocado roll. We practically ordered the entire menu for the adults and everything was wonderful! Though, some of the dishes were a bit overly saucy so it took away from the natural flavor/texture of the fish. Very small almost intimate sushi fusion place. Normally I hear sushi fusion and I want to run the other way, but.Akashiro breaks that mold! The food was excellent their use of Peruvian spice and chili oil really makes everything pop. They have a really nice selection on the menu from appetizers to main to hand rolls to desserts the drink menu compliments of food really well. The restaurant and kitchen, which you can see from any table in the place, is spotlessly clean as was every member staff. The wait staff and the sushi chefs were all fantastic. Really attentive and detail oriented. Bathrooms were spotless. So there are four different sushi places within a quarter mile radius all at the intersection of Chapman and Harbor, but this is the best sushi that I have had in Fullerton. Hands down. You're gonna need a reservation, so plan ahead. Parking is easy and if for some reason you want an after/before dinner coffee or ice cream there's a great place right around the corner. Really good for a date night, or four a small group of friends. Not great for large groups, but that doesn't take away from the experience of this place at all. Wholeheartedly recommend. read more
