Celebrating my Birthday/along w our 15th Wedding Anniversary. 07.03.26 Was were seated right away when we got here. What we ordered ~ Lucky Gai is seared crying Tiger w a specialty sauce they have to dip the sliced up steak in. The marination for the meat was really yummy and tasty. ~ Beef Fried Rice tastes like every good thai fried rice should taste like. ~ Kow Mun Gai Duo with both Fried & Poached chicken in Mighty size. Came here specifically for this and boy i just say. It's pretty scrumptious. Definitely recommended. I crave for this thai dish every now and then. It's a thai staple dish to enjoy even everyday. Comes w a small chicken soup broth that's in a cute teacup size. Accompanied by 4 style if dipping sauces to your liking. The chicken Either it's the poached or fried was tender. LOVE LOVE how the dipping sauce for the Kow Mun Gai bottles was labeled which helped tremendously. ~ Thai iced tea tasted a bit off. Like it taste a bit plastic. Their thai tea seems to be in a dispenser behind the counter. I wonder if that had a role into the taste a bit. It's not as bad as where it's not drinkable but definitely leaves somewhat of a plastic taste after each time you Gulp the drink down. I was gonna tell Ryan but the restaurant was a tad bit busy during lunch. Along Ryan went in the back because another associated came and end up assisting with servicing the other guests along close out our tab to pay. Owner Ryan was really Social and awesome at greeting us along checking in occasionally if everything was fine and if we needed anything. He seems to be the only associate tending to all of the guests. Which was pretty good for about 6/7 other tables with a couple or a group dining in. They have a great amount of wooden table set up right outside the restaurant. Their restaurant is a Fox mascot which i thought was pretty cute. You see Foxes around the entire restaurant including in the restroom even Ryan had a cute button up shirt w the fox character on it. Lots of parking right outside the restaurant. They have a lot of daily deals/promos. Including student gets 10% off and Especially on your birthday/1 day b4 or 1 day afterwards, free entree up to $ 16 is free for the Birthday Celebrant. ONLY THING I didn't like with the atmosphere was there were a lot of flies in the restaurant. The entrance door to the restaurant was open and we were one of the tables near the entrance. It even bothered another guests and his kids. With flies flying around inside the restaurant was unpleasant and hard to enjoy your meals dining in because we were busy Choo~ ing the flies away. I even saw it on the kids and their parents face w the fly flying constantly around their table. If i could've deducted a half star on yelp. We've eaten at Luck Gai Cafe many times and have always enjoyed both the food and service, which is why this experience was particularly disappointing. We visited on Father's Day around 12:20 PM. Since part of our group was still a few minutes away, we waited outside rather than going in because we assumed the entire party needed to be present before being seated. While we were waiting, a large group of around 20 people arrived and sat in the outdoor patio area, which was completely fine and didn't seem to affect the indoor seating. Once the rest of our party was close, I went inside to check in with the host. At the same time, another group of about 10 people entered and seated themselves. Seeing this, I assumed seating was being handled informally and found an empty table for my family. The host immediately told me we could not sit there and asked us to get up because the tables were being held for future reservations or call-in parties. Meanwhile, other groups appeared to be seating themselves without being stopped. In that moment, it honestly felt like our party was the easiest one to turn away. I was then told we wouldn't be able to eat and that the wait would be over an hour. I asked if there was some type of waitlist or system being used, and was told there wasn't. What bothered me most wasn't the wait itself. It was Father's Day, and I completely understand that restaurants get unexpectedly busy. What was frustrating was the lack of communication. Even if the host had a plan for how she wanted to handle the sudden rush of people, I wish that had been communicated. A simple explanation and a little empathy would have gone a long way. Something as simple as, "I'm so sorry, we just had a huge wave of guests come in and unfortunately we're at capacity right now," would have helped us understand what was happening. Instead, it felt like we were simply being told no without any real explanation or options. We've always enjoyed coming here, and that's why this experience stood out. Great food is what brings people in the first time, but great customer service is often what keeps them coming back. I wanted to share this feedback because I genuinely think clearer communication during busy periods would create a much better experience for guests. This was such a disappointment. We were trying the Candlelight Concert series at the Richard Nixon Library (that part of the night was amazing). So we looked up restaurants nearby. Thai sounded great and this place had a 4.7 with over 1000 reviews. My family and I can't see why. The food was mediocre, not terrible, but a step below so-so. That would have been a 3 star level, but it was seriously some bad service. I had to finish a call, so my wife and daughters went in before, ordering for us. My wife and daughters tell me, it's as though the waitress is mad at us. Sure enough, everytime she's at the table, it feels curt and angry. It's almost funny, almost, how strange this behavior is. My wife and I did service work through college, we ALWAYS treat servers with respect. Our daughters, naturally kind already, still have had good behavior in restaurants emphasized. Now here is why I'm making a deal of it. Anyone can have a bad day and take it out on others. When I go to pay, she becomes all sunshine and rainbows. The chairs are cute and the interior is captivating; it feels just like home. Whenever I come, I order the Hainan chicken combo. An absolute must!!! 100% authentic and 200% delicious. It's owned by a husband and wife, she runs the back of the house as head chef and he runs the front of the house. The wife is originally from Thailand and they seem to visit often, so not only is the food out of this world but he can tell you everything you want to know about it, from the protein that pairs best with a dish to how it differs from similar dishes in Asia. The ambiance is inviting, authentic, and a tad quirky, just like the service, but in the best possible way. They have patio seating also. 8 of us went so we got to try a little bit of almost everything. Every bite of every dish was outstanding. I couldn't stop eating my friend's yellow curry. I did a cookie decorating class next door a few weeks ago with my wife and sister-in-law and I snuck in here to order food before the class started and the food was bomb. I would probably still order the dish again in the future because the rice and soup were delicious. **Pad Thai** I think it's easier to order bad pad thai than it is to find good. Was curious to try this place since it's very highly rated, but let's see how it compares to other hainan chicken restaurants from the 626... First walking in, it's a very small quaint shop. I was unsure what type of service this restaurant had, there wasn't a "please wait to be seated" sign or anything, so I assume you just order at the cashier and pick it up to your table or something. I was greeted by the cashier and was told I could sit anywhere since there wasn't really anyone in the restaurant. She handed me the menu and then... it was a long period of time whether I was suppose to wait for her to come and I order, or am I supposed to just go up there myself.... So I just went ahead and ordered at the cashier and everything, no big deal. It didn't take too long for my order to be prepared. She actually handed me utensils and my meal to the table, and handed my food as well. So I guess it probably was a sit-down service...? lol I got the mighty combo, which I wanted to try both the poach chicken and the fried chicken. I like how they offered a variety of sauces and listed which tasted better with what. I also liked how they added a small side salad and soup, which is a pretty nice set. Now onto the chicken, the rice was pretty enjoyable, I wish it was softer though. The poached chicken was kinda mid, nothing really too special. It also had cartilage in every piece so not sure if that was normal... The fried chicken tasted better, has more unique textures to eating it, but the batter itself gets boring the more you eat it, or at least it just tastes cheap. I ended up enjoying the fried chicken one more, but honestly for the quality compared to other places I had in the 626, it's not that comparable. My gf was craving thai food after a convention so we found this place and came over. It's located in the very corner of an essentially dead at night plaza so parking bear the entrance is recommended. We got a boat noodle, crispy tofu and mighty combo. Both the boat noodle and mighty combo were better than I expected. The boat noodle had very chewy noodles and the soup base was quite tasty. There was a generous amount of meat in it too. My favorite was the mighty combo. Both the crispy and regular chicken were juicy and retained a strong chicken flavor. They also cooked the rice the way I like it similar to hainan chicken rice, a big plus. The crispy tofu was what I expected. They gave a pretty generous portion of it too, which my gf and I snacked away while waiting for our main dishes. Overall, great food and definitely a spot to come back to. We got the combo chicken (comes with half fried half poached chicken, chicken soup and some rice and cucumbers) as well as a whole poached and coconut water. Inside, they have about 5-6 tables for seating with some additional seating outside as well. For their menu, they have a pretty extensive selection of different rice, noodle, soup, and appetizer dishes to choose from. Wifey opted for the Mighty Combo with Poached Chicken and I got the Mighty Combo with Fried Chicken. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here and every bite of our food. The seasoning was good, noodles were well-cooked, and I liked the ratio of meat to vegetable to noodle. The Foxy kiss was a thai basil dish, and you can choose ground beef or chicken.
