Long time diner, first time reviewer. Their sushi is generally good, although a bit on the pricey side. I did not like their Agedashi Dōfu because they make it different from most places where I've had it. The tofu is supposed to be served in sauce or broth. But theirs is all dry and did not come with enough sauce or broth to dip into, so the flavor was a little off for me. The rolls are decent. Personally I think they're packed with too much rice. The Poke Salad did not have a very generous amount of sashimi compared to other sushi restaurants. The restaurant itself is kind of small so the seating space makes me feel a bit claustrophobic.
Chubby Sushi & Ramen is a great place to stop in for casual dining. This place is fully decorated with a whole bunch of stuff, it was a bit anxiety-provoking. We ordered the Chubby Sashimi ($65) to share between two people. The sashimi tasted fresh, but the sweet shrimp head was not deep fried enough so parts of the shell was not edible. I didn't like that it didn't come with rice. Service was just okay. They never once refilled our waters and both of our glasses were empty before we even finished our meal. Overall, this place was not bad but not great.
The Chubby Roll is my favorite. This order is enough for a meal, in fact, I took the last piece home because I couldn't finish it. And I couldn't bare to waste good food by throwing it away. The only thing I would change is that I felt rushed, constantly being asked to order. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and chalk it up to attentiveness, but it was borderline pushy.
Quite possibly the best lunch deal out there! For about $17-22, you can get a three course lunch. For people like me who can't decide, this is amazing. I went with the tonkatsu ramen, nigiri sushi and tempura for about $22. My buddy ordered very similarly and we split the seared bluefin tuna with asparagus appetizer. Everything was pretty good, but have had better across the board. If it were for lunch combo, I would have given 5 stars because it's rare to get these types of options with this level of quality. I do wonder if the nigiri or other items would be better if not part of the lunch special. I guess we will have to find out for dinner because there is no way I wouldn't order the lunch again if it's offered!

Everything came out fresh and well prepared. The rolls were flavorful without being overpowering, and the sashimi was thiccck and high quality. The bone marrow was especially rich and buttery and stood out as a unique dish. The tempura was light and crispy, and the ramen was warm and comforting so perf way to finish the meal Service was good and the food came out at a steady pace. Overall, a solid spot if you're in the area and craving sushi and ramen in one place. Would definitely return!!
5/22/26 Chubby Sushi & Ramen Brea, CA...Came here with a couple peeps to Celebrate a late Mother's Day! We had so many items! We started off with a salmon asparagus appetizer roll. We also ordered 3 more rolls as a main course including Chubby high protein, Chubby Angel, and Brea rolls. Our main Sushi course was the Chubby Bowl. We also added Crab and Baked Scallop rolls! Everything was so good!!! Service was excellent! Place was clean and inviting! It looks like the lunch time crowd is pretty good as well. Parking is free in the area behind which is 2 hours, behind and south is 3 hours, or if you park in the structure even more south there is no limit. Come enjoy this place when you can!
2nd time here in 3 years & it does not disappoint! The prices are fairly reasonable, fish is fresh & everything in all was tasty. Our server was attentive & also didn't rush us when it was a busy Sunday on memorial weekend. Love the decor in the restaurant! Everything we ate was so good - we wanted quality, not quantity! This is a good go-to sushi spot to get your fix if you don't want AYCE.
The Chubby Sashimi is a must--its refined presentation is just the start, loaded with luxury bites like uni, chu toro, sweet shrimp, and more. First time trying tuna marrow, and wow--each bite was juicy, fresh, and so rich. The tuna nachos, yellowtail with jalapeño, and Chubby Roll hit all our fusion cravings. If you're in Orange County, specifically downtown Brea and you haven't tried this spot, you're definitely missing out. Once I tried their sushi for the first time, they quickly became one of my favorites in OC. They fly their fish in every Friday and you can literally taste the freshness. Over the times I've visited, I've tried basically the whole menu but a couple in particular are my favorites. I always start off with the Blue crab appetizer that's wrapped with salmon on the outside and asparagus. Their sushi rolls are all solid here--I can't recommend the signature Chubby roll enough. And if you're feeling adventurous, they even have Tuna bone marrow shots which are actually such a nice palate cleanser! And, of course, the star of the show is the Chubby sashimi platter. Each piece is thiccc and melts in your mouth and even comes with sweet shrimp and uni. This spot is genuinely a 10/10, so if you haven't tried it, like I said, you're definitely missing out! This was my husband and I's first time trying the Chubby Sushi! We came at a perfect time for dinner because it wasn't too busy yet. We sat at the sushi bar which was fine as we got to see behind the scenes of sushi making. We got the Brea roll, the 20 piece sushi and a bottle of sake. The fish was nice and fresh. The service was great as we were always checked on. The restaurant itself had a nice vibe to it. Not too loud but also looked liked everyone was having a good time. I will definitely coming back to eat here again!

The bluefin tuna was the highlight for me. It had that rich, buttery texture that just melts when you eat it. We ordered a few rolls along with some sushi and everything was really well done. The rolls were flavorful but not overloaded with sauces, which I always appreciate because you can actually taste the fish. The portions were also really solid. We also tried ramen and it was great for sharing. Warm, comforting, and full of flavor. It's nice when a place does both sushi and ramen well instead of just focusing on one. Service was friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe was casual and welcoming. Definitely a spot I'd come back to when I'm craving good sushi.
Last Wednesday night... I decided to hit up another sushi place called Chubby Sushi & Ramen. Located in Downtown Brea. It's known for their sushi and ramen. I came here and it wasn't that busy. Seated right away!!! I've ordered some delicious sushi and some rolls. First off is the app... salmon with blue crab (4pc) Next up is some tasty sushi.... bluefin tuna (2 pc) and A5 japanese wagyu (2 pc). Then it's chubby ninja roll, and a roll that's named after this town called Brea roll. Sounds fun, right??? Oh, a Alaskan roll. For all those goodies, Presentation is quite nice. Looks fresh. I think the best item I've tried here is their wagyu sushi. Tastes heavenly good. It's $24.99 for that though. Crazy expensive, but who doesn't love A5 wagyu meat??! All other items are delicious too, but can't top the wagyu sushi. Not much to say about anything else...but will try the ramen next time. Overall.... this is a good place to those who's in Brea. Will be back soon...

My first visit to Chubby Sushi felt like coming home. As a party of one, I was welcomed in and given a seat right at the chef's table, where I got to watch all the artistry and hard work that goes into every dish. It turned what could have been a simple dinner into a memorable experience from the moment I sat down. I ordered the sashimi plate, and it was absolutely outstanding--fresh, beautifully prepared, and surprisingly well-priced for the quality. What impressed me most was the honesty of the staff. I was considering ordering a larger portion, but they actually talked me out of it because they knew I wouldn't finish it. They were right. That small gesture showed me they cared more about giving me a great experience than squeezing a few extra dollars out of my wallet. That kind of customer service is rare these days. What makes this experience even more memorable is that I had just come from X Fish Izakaya, where I spent nearly an hour waiting to be seated while watching people who arrived after me get seated first. I left feeling frustrated and completely overlooked. Walking into Chubby Sushi was the exact opposite experience. Here, I felt welcomed, appreciated, and genuinely taken care of from the moment I walked through the door. As if the food and service weren't enough, on my way out I met a well-known food reviewer and even got the chance to hold a giant tuna head that Chubby Sushi had on display for a photo. It was one of those unexpected moments that made an already great night unforgettable. Sometimes a bad experience leads you exactly where you're supposed to be. I'm genuinely glad X Fish Izakaya dropped the ball because it led me to discover Chubby Sushi. This wasn't just a great meal--it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time and one I'll remember for years to come. I'll definitely be back. This place is cute, the name is cute and the staff's are friendly. My son wanted sushi so we came here after we left the mall. Everything we ordered was pretty good. Look at how much avocado comes with the house salad! Good thing i love avocados :D This place is kinda far from where i live, but if i was in the neighborhood and wanted sushi, i would come here again. read more

The fish here is cut thick and tastes super fresh, you can really tell the quality in every bite. The ambience is bright, clean, and spacious, so it feels comfortable whether you're coming for a quick meal or hanging out with friends. One thing I really love is that the servers will open the sake for you at the table, which makes the experience feel a little more special and taken care of. Came in for lunch today and got a nice surprise... gifted us a 2026 calendar that has a monthly coupons! Chubby is the best sushi in and around Brea, hands down! It had been a while since I'd been here. Today was just a quick pick up, but I was craving some sushi, specifically from Chubby, and as usual my order did not disappoint. I ordered some miso soup along with my roll, which had plenty of seaweed and tofu chunks, yum! Service is great, whether dining in or taking out. Wow, if you're a tuna lover, this place is for you! We ordered the Tuna Lover Trio snd tried the tuna marrow, the refreshing Summer Kiss, and those addictive tuna nachos that I'm still thinking about. My absolute favorite, Salmon & blue crab and 6-piece chef's choice sushi! Then for the rolls the Chubby Angel Roll and Brea Roll (another fav) Every bite was fresh, creative, and perfectly balanced the kind of spot you roll into once and immediately add to your regular rotation. In Downtown Brea, don't sleep on this one! PS, they have a pickled wasabi that is so addictive! The service was great and offered inside an outdoor seating. Everything was clean. There's a parking structure across the street and also some parking behind the restaurant. read more
I recently came here for a weeknight dinner with a friend. The restaurant is located in downtown Brea, right across from the parking structure. The interior is bright, clean, modern, while being cozy. To our surprise, they weren't too busy, and we were seated promptly. The menu had a good amount of options without being overwhelming. There were so many things I wanted to try! I went with a regular chirashi, chutoro handroll, deep-fried oysters, and a matcha cheesecake. The food arrived quickly. The fish was all very fresh, and the tuna was delicious. Surprisingly, the chirashi rice didn't seem seasoned. The panko-fried oysters were pretty good and came with standard katsu sauce. The matcha cheesecake was quite dry, tasteless, and crumbly. I would skip that. Overall, we had a nice experience. The service was friendly, and the fish was fresh. Had a major ramen craving so my family and I stopped by here on our way home since we've been eyeing this spot. Ordered the tonkatsu ramen for myself and honestly the portion seemed a bit small. The tea egg was flavorful and the meat was just alright. The noodles were also typical ramen noodles and the broth didn't taste like anything special. If you're not looking for anything spectacular, I'd get ramen here in a pinch but they're definitely more known for their sushi! read more

TLDR: best sushi place if you care about taste not ambiance/service I love their chubby 10 piece sushi set - it's $59 and has great cuts. It's the best quality you'll get at a non-omakase place. They also have unique cuts for tuna that you won't find most places. I wish they did explain what the cuts are though. And if you have friends who can't eat sushi, they have ramen and bento boxes. I don't mind much but the interior is very tacky and the guy manager is rude. We made a reservation for indoors but he seated us outside saying he ran out of indoor seats - what's the point of making a resy then? read more
I'm surprised this is coming from a Chubby chain but their service was great! Our servers were attentive from the start to finish. Fish/sashimi was good if you want a quick sit down Japanese bento style. Their unagi was better than standard pre made eels sold at local asian supermarket. One star deducted from tonkatsu ramen. I'm happy they didn't use the factory made yellow ramen noodles but the noodles were too soggy for my taste. Chashu a bit on drier end and soup was ok. A very standard bowl of ramen nothing impressive. Keep up the good work! read more
I'm officially ruined for all other sushi places after dining at Chubby Sushi & Ramen in Brea. Everything was next-level good. Walked in and basically ordered the greatest hits: - Chubby Sashimi (20 pcs) fish so fresh and looks so appetizing. Salmon and yellowtail were literally glistening and melted the second they hit my tongue. - Tuna Nachos bluefin tuna + black truffle oil on crispy nachos. It was luxurious. - Summer Kiss (2 pcs) raw oyster crowned with uni and ikura. One bite and I wanted more. - Tempura Combo they LOADED IT UP on the shrimp. Like huge crispy ones plus all the veggies. Zero grease, all crunch. - Miso Ramen to close it out rich miso broth, perfect noodles... I slurped every last drop. Portions are generous, environment is clean and spacious, quality is Michelin-worthy, and the staff treated us like royalty. This place is dangerous -- I already want to come back. read more
We decided to eat at nearby restaurant after having a good day of pickleball at Tuffree Hill Park of Placentia, CA. The Chubby Sushi & Ramen restaurant is right next to downtown Brea. The restaurant is modern, more upscaled than traditional Japanese sushi and ramen. Service is above average. My friend likes their sushi and sashimi, so I ordered mixed poke bowl, tonkatsu, and with house salad. Plating is nice. Poke bowl ingredients are fresh, tonkatsu is thin but a bit too dry, salad is good. Overall the lunch special is a great deal. We enjoy the portion and lunch - as both of us are pretty big. read more

Wha I got: Chubby Sashimi Yellowtail with Jalapeño Seared Bluefin Tuna Brea Roll Mars Roll Mixed Tempura Spicy Miso Ramen a popular spot known for high-quality, fresh sushi and ramen,this restaurant focus on premium fish like bluefin tuna and has variety of options of other Japanese dishes Wow I really loved their fresh sashimi! It's soo delicious! Thick cut, No funky smell, really fresh and high quality fish here! Everything that I got was super yummy. My favorite was the chubby sashimi and Brea roll. The service is very friendly staff and food comes out fast. They explained really well if you have any questions on the menu. The ambiance is cute, has plenty of seating, inside and outside. It has some cute cherry blossom decorations. You can also watch the chef make the sushi. The quality of the fish and food is amazing! They were not cheap when it comes to cutting the fish it's big and chunky! I'm glad chubby opened up a sushi/ramen combo restaurant. The ramen is very flavorful and the marinated chase was yummy! Everything was soo fresh, tasty and good quality. I will definitely comeback. This is my go to sushi spot now in Brea! read more
We came right at opening on a Monday. Service was attentive and quick, which I appreciated, but the food just didn't live up to all the hype I was reading. The sushi was fine, but nothing to write home about. Even the Hokkaido uni, which I had decently high hopes for at $23, was just okay. I was curious about the Chubby Egg, but wish the menu had mentioned that it's filled with imitation crab meat, definitely wouldn't have ordered it if I'd known. Maybe it's my fault for assuming it would be real in this economy? The tonkotsu broth was actually better than we expected, but the chashu was on the tougher side, which was a bummer. read more

Decided to give this place a shot for some sushi while in LA. I was staying in downtown LA but decided to make the drive out to Brea to give this place a try since they serve blue fin tuna shipped in weekly, which I think is awesome. It was a good drive out but worth it overall. We decided to try some spicy tuna handrolls, tuna sashimi, wagyu nigiri with uni and caviar, ramen, and tuna marrow. I was very excited about the tuna marrow. I rarely see or hear of any places serving this so I was looking forward to it. It was very good and fresh with a gelatin taste. Nothing much to it but it was something different and unique. With a little wasabi and soy sauce, it was pretty good. The wagyu nigiri was soft and tender along with the uni and caviar. The tuna sashimi was really good and got to try 3 types of tuna sashimi. The otoro was definitely the best with the gold flakes and caviar. The ramen was also very good and the broth was flavorful. I was also excited to see that they had fresh grated wasabi as well and it was really good with all the sushi we had. Overall, I think this place was worth the drive to check out. For a place that serves blue fin tuna flown in weekly, it was a pretty laid back atmosphere and very causal. We also got our food pretty quickly which we were surprised by as well. I definitely recommend this place and would go back if ever in the area again. read more

This is a first time visit at a local spot we pass time and time again. I have been dying to try this place and finally had the chance to. What I found really unique about the place is the ascetics of the presentation of the food and the unique dishes. Came on a Saturday at opening without a reservation and barely got a spot. Tuna Bone Marrow (3/5): Even though this is mostly serve on Fridays, we were able to snag 2. The marrow just tasted like jello, nothing spectacular. However I do enjoy the scrapes of tuna on the side. I like to think of it as extra pieces of tuna. Chubby Sashimi Deluxe (5/5): The presentation for this was amazing as there was smoke coming out of our sashimi. It comes with 20 pieces of seasonal fish, but it felt endless. I really liked the smokiness of the tuna as it gives a great balance between soft and crunchy. Fried Oyster (5/5): The oyster was very plump and fried to perfection. Came in for dinner with my nephews. I found the Ramen to be somewhat flavorless. The sushi were also a remarkable. We order several rules and they were OK not bad, but not memorable. The presentations were nice, but I was just hoping for more. A place that I am glad I tried but not looking forward to return. read more

recently visited Chubby Sushi & Ramen and had such a great experience that I had to leave a review! If you're looking for fresh sushi with generous portions, this spot definitely delivers. The sashimi was incredibly fresh and literally melted in my mouth. You can tell they use high-quality fish, and the portion sizes are bigger than what you'd expect, which I loved. We also tried a variety of sushi rolls, and each one was packed with flavor and made beautifully. The ramen was rich, warm, and super comforting--perfect to pair with the sushi. On top of that, the tempura veggies and shrimp were crispy, light, and not greasy at all. The overall vibe of the restaurant was welcoming, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I'd definitely recommend this place if you're in the Brea area and craving fresh sushi, good portions, and a solid variety of dishes. I'll definitely be coming back! read more
