I love Cream Pan. Whenever I'm in the OC area, I always make a stop here. They're most famous for their strawberry croissants, and for good reason - I love them so much. The pastry is incredibly airy and light, and the filling isn't overly sweet, making it absolutely perfect. It is also super reasonablly priced $2.40 and cheaper if you buy more. I also tried their azuki cream, which has a red bean filling topped with fresh whipped cream, and I really enjoyed it. I usually pick up their custard pudding as well, and it never disappoints. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of their baked goods. The service is quick and efficient, and there are a few outdoor tables where you can sit and enjoy your treats. I've been a customer since the 90's. But with my blood sugar climbing, my doctor suggested I tone down my consumption of carbs. So I am not here so much anymore but still love this place and buy a box full when I have company. Everything I've ever had has been good to great, except for one bakery item - the donut - and the coffee. Not a fan of those two items. My favorite item is their blueberry croissant. The open face pastry with blueberries on a light bed of custard. especially when warmed in an air fryer for a few minutes is perfect. Most love their custard and strawberry filled croissant, not very big but just enough as a sweet after a nice meal. Their almond croissant is great, chock full of almonds on top and almond paste inside. The blueberry scones are great with coffee - flakey and moist blueberries. Apple croissant and b utter croissant are buttery and tasty. Again best warmed up in a conventional oven or air fryer. Microwaving (which only rotates the water molecules inside a baked good) kills the crisp texture. I have not tried pork bun, sandwiches, or other newer items I wish they would make eclairs or cream puffs. They also have some cake slices and a beautiful and delicious but pricey tiny fruit tart. There are tables outside. But i don't like their coffee so I always end up taking my purchased items home. One warning - during busy times, the line is out the door and they will sometimes run out. I'm one of their customers that when I go, I am there immediately after they open. I haven't tried their many breads (trying to cut down carbs lol) but they really smell great. Prices are reasonable. Unfortunately, the cream puff was very disappointing. It felt too heavy and did not taste fresh or special to me. The service and atmosphere were also not great. The place looked a bit dirty and outdated. I ordered drip coffee and was just handed an empty cup and told to help myself, but the coffee dispenser was hidden in the corner and hard to find. When I asked again, the staff member did not really answer my question and seemed more focused on talking with her friends, even though I was the only customer in the store. When we moved to Old Town a few years ago, I was happy because we were so close to Cream Pan. On our weekend walks, we always pass by Cream Pan. It always smells amazing because they make everything fresh. Whenever we celebrate a birthday (which is often because we have three kids), we always order a Strawberry Shortcake a couple of days beforehand and pick it up the morning we need it. A cute little shop in Tustin, stopped by for post lunch coffee and snack and left very happy. The staff here are so welcoming and friendly. The pastries were a pleasant surprise. The fruit tarts, strawberry shortcake, and chocolate cakes have just the right amount of sweetness and they're fresh and consistently good. If you need to buy large cakes, I recommend going when they open. Otherwise, I've had no issues going a few hours after open and still being able to get single cakes. She said no and left to drop off some pastries she was holding; to my surprise, she came back holding a few pieces of bread and asked how many tuna butter rolls I wanted. I answered two and she went to the back to start making them. At this point, I was shocked and highly appreciative of the hospitality she displayed. We came here at 10am on Labor Day and the line wasn't out the door which was surprising. Once getting in line, there was so much of a variety of different breads/food to choose from. Cream Pan has been the main bakery my family and I have gone to for 15+ years, so seeing the recent price increases was honestly really disappointing. I left for about a month and a half on a trip through Europe and Asia, and came back to see the butter croissant go from $3.30 to $4.40 and the chocolate croissant from $3.60 to $5.00. That's more than a 30% increase in a very short period of time. I understand inflation and rising business costs, but inflation has not increased anywhere near that much, especially when it comes to the basic ingredients used in these pastries. Cream Pan still appears to have the same three locations, I haven't noticed a major increase in staffing, and they have always been busy and frequently sell out of pastries. So where is such a large increase coming from? I could understand prices gradually going up by $0.20 or $0.30, but increasing some of the most popular pastries by more than 30% in roughly a month and a half just doesn't make sense from a customer's perspective. It feels like the prices may have been raised simply because they know customers will continue paying them. After being a customer for so many years, that is really disappointing. read more
