The staff are humble and exceedingly friendly which is becoming more and more rare as prices in the OC soar beyond tolerable levels. However if you have a few extra dollars in your pocket, spend them on the lovely chocolate or raspberry cream walnut croissants at this place. Airy and light but flavorful bundles of joy! I also ordered the delectable chocolate cake, which was not too sweet. 4 layers of cake and filling. You can actually taste the chocolate in the light layers. One can still imagine the affection imbued into their baked goods as you enjoy them. Unlike many of the others nearby who have crossed into "it's just a business" mentality. Received this as a gift for my office! I believe this is the Fruit Tart (Big). They definitely are generous with the fruit, but the tart part was a bit think and harder to eat. The flavor was great--not as sweet, but delicious. This was enough for about 8 people! Definitely cute for any occasion. I got the chance to try the Matcha Cake as well. Did some yelp search and found this gem. Ordered my two year old custom bday cake and it was so easy and pricing was reasonable. Best part. The cake was as described and it wasn't very sweet. We were surprised that she used real mangos in between layers which usually is so rare since it's usually flavored frosting not actual pieces of mango. We had so many compliments from our Asian guests. Of note. Bc it's not buttercream the cake shoukd be refrigerate up to the point of serving. It was looking a little wilty melty but we cut the cake in an hour so it was fine. But if you plan to leave if out for long maybe go with buttercream instead. read more

Chatted with her for a bit and left. The rating is for the store appearance only and not the food. It is a super cute store and kept up nice and clean. Had three of their desserts served at a family member's home: Tres Leches Cake, Strawberry Short Cake, and Chocolate Mousse Cake. Tres Leches Cake was on. Seemed like it needed something more to flavor it up. Strawberry Short Cake was very good, with just the right amount of strawberries. I would describe this bakery shop as a lovely place to get your cakes and cookies and actually any trinket that you want that they create. Like everyone said before this is a great place for Matcha cookies and Matcha cake. It does take a little bit if you want same-day service I called in and I would say about six hours later I was able to pick up my cake for a birthday it was really great in terms of service and in terms of their accommodation to my need. The workers speak Mandarin and they also only take cash if purchases are under $10 which are most of the cookies and some slices of cake unless you are purchasing multiple cakes like me. They have cake, pops, croissants, and many variety of cakes for you to buy à la carte. I will say that the price is a bit higher than what I'm used to in San Diego, but the quality is up there so expect to pay a little bit more but also know that it is quite good. read more

It's a very small little store with a few pastries and baked good, and in the midst of it they sell quartz stones as well so it is as random as can be. They do also have coffee based drinks but are limited to just a few selection like americano, cappuccino, and latte. I got a latte to go along with my almond croissant and raspberry lilikoi cake. The cake was just so velvety and delicious with the unique combination of raspberry and lilikoi. The almond croissant was so moist and packed with flavors that I wanted more. Such a hidden gem! I never would have found out about this place if it wasn't recommended by my husband's coworkers. I absolutely love this small family owned business! I came here in search of the best Tres Leches cake in Orange County for a birthday party, and alas I may have found it! The flavoring of the tres leches was very unique, and they can also add different types of fruit to your liking. What sold us was the chocolate tres leches cake, what a unique twist. I had never even heard of this before. We could not decide between them, so got both sheet cakes! They were both a hit at our party. This location is small, but very clean and organized, and the people working were very friendly and patient. There is a wide variety of unique flavors of cakes and pastries available. After I tried the other locations and decided on this one, I text the number they had available for orders and had everything set up for the party. The pickup of the cakes went very smoothly, they even helped me carry the cakes to my car. They give you detailed instructions of how to make sure the cake does not get damaged during transportation. My new favorite bakery! The shop is family-run with the kindest workers (they speak mandarin too) who make the most delicious & not too sweet cakes. We absolutely LOVE their matcha cake with matcha cream + strawberry bits, but honestly we have enjoyed all of their flavors so far - taro, chocolate, mocha, & mango to name a few. Their roll cake slices are also amazing. Although their cakes are on the pricier side (~$50 for 6in & ~$80 for 8in), I personally feel like it's worth it. Their taste & quality are unmatched to other bakeries in the area & we never get tired of eating their cakes. You really can't go wrong with whatever you order since the sponge is always soft & fluffy, and the cream is light but flavorful. They also have a few breads and cookies available in the shop. Tip: Make sure to call them at least 3 days in advance to reserve your cake since they don't typically have all the flavors on display! I really appreciate that they were able to accommodate for my last minute order in the past, but it really depends on how busy they are. I usually see tres leches, strawberry shortcake, and tiramisu flavors for those stopping by on short notice. The shop itself does not have any seating, but there are plenty of tables & chairs outside. I highly recommend ordering your next cake from here! I felt bad because someone else also bought a cake from Porto's, but the cake from here got way more attention Now, because of the attention that the first cake received; I decided to order a custom cake (Strawberry Matcha) for another birthday. Keep in mind you need to place the order 2-3 days in advance (depending on the size of cake you're planning on getting) I ordered a 6" and it was about $48? Everybody loved the cake at the party! You can really taste the matcha and I love how light and refreshing it was with the strawberries. Not overly sweet unlike those American cakes! 10/10 would recommend coming back here ! FYI, come in and place an order in person if you don't know about cake sizes because when I tried doing that, the guy told me to just come in and seemed a bit frustrated trying to explain over the phone. A little late on this review, but this place is well worth its five stars! My friend loves Japanese cheesecake and Uncle Tetsu wasn't going to cut it for a birthday cake. Instead, I was able to order a custom Japanese cheesecake birthday cake from Bakery 101 with two days notice. I was able to personalize the writing and get a late (8 pm) pickup! The staff member who helped me was so friendly and communicated by text to ensure that I had been appropriately charged (had to prepay) and that my message was spelled correctly. It wasn't cheap, but well worth the price. Bakery 101 has a huge selection of different French and Japanese cakes and pastries. I will be back to try them! read more

This is one the two local bakeries I frequent to buy cakes. I like to support small businesses as much as possible. Bakery 101 is pricier than the other bakery I turn to sometimes, but their cakes are also superior so you get what you pay for I guess. Bakery 101 is also much easier to do business with because they have nicer staff and longer hours. They always have a great assortment of cakes if you need a cake to take somewhere or serve at a gathering. The quality of their packaging is also more elevated than the other bakery I use when in a bind. If I don't want to take my chances, I usually order ahead. My husband's favorite cake is strawberry shortcake and Bakery 101's strawberry shortcake is top notch. The tres leches cake seems to be the most popular. I've taken that to get togethers and people have raved about how good it is. It's a little too wet for me but I'm not generally a tres leches fan but I still eat it and enjoy it. I can't wait to try one of their cheesecakes. I'm also a big fan of Swiss Rolls because they seem to have the perfect ratio of cake to cream and they always have them here. read more

I needed a strawberry cake for a birthday, so drove here to purchase one. Parking is plenty at this plaza. I was browsing around while waiting for the very nice female staff at the front preparing the cake. I saw they had mixed fruit croissants and man oh man, they were huge. We needed a last minute birthday cake for my small family a few days after thanksgiving and were looking for another elegant cake that wasn't too sweet and Bakery 101 was our top choice on Yelp after some searching. We ended with a 6' Strawberry Shortcake and it was delicious. Not too sweet, full of fruit, and layered with light and fluffy cream. Even their smallest size was more than enough for our family of 5 and we had plenty of leftovers. Only drawback was that we thought the cake was a bit much given there were three thick layers of cake inside a very tall 6' cake. They definitely aren't skimping and give very generous portions! We originally wanted the matcha strawberry cake but was told that one was preorder only so we'll be back next time! Service was great, the nice lady at the counter immediately greeted us when we walked in despite already in the middle of helping another customer and then her husband checked in on us a few minutes later to see if we'd been helped. They even apologized for the wait (there was no need to as we were standing inside for less than 5 minutes!). They were so full of care and thoughtful of their guests.
