This review has been a long time coming. I have ordered cakes twice from Kymoto Co and each time I have been so happy with my order. To start the process, I emailed Kylie and let her know what I envisioned for my cakes with some pictures attached and the date I needed the cakes. Please note that you do have to order a month in advance. Kylie let me know that there is a minimum purchase of 2 cakes when ordering lunchbox cakes so I ordered 2. The actual cake is vanilla flavor and you have the option of choosing vanilla, strawberry, matcha, or cookies and cream for the buttercream filling. For my mom's birthday, I chose a light purple cake with a cute floral design and strawberry buttercream flavor ($40). The second cake for her birthday had Van Gogh's starry night with vanilla buttercream flavor ($45). For my birthday this year, I ordered a light pink cake with a floral design and matcha buttercream flavor ($45). My second lunchbox cake was light purple with an angel hello kitty design and cookies and cream buttercream filling ($50). It's really cool that you are able to customize your cakes, although it does get pricier as you add more details. The lunchbox cakes come in a circle shape and are the perfect size. There's enough cake to share with a couple people, but it's also not too much cake if you wanted to just enjoy it yourself. :) Once you are set on the details of your order and your pickup time, Kylie sends you your invoice. After that, all you have to do is show up at your designated time to the address provided. Kylie includes cake care instructions for you as well to ensure that your cake stays in good condition until you are ready to enjoy it. She replied that she was no longer able to complete the order. He had to then scramble to find a cake last minute. I understand things come up, but you should inform your customers in advance if you are no longer able to complete their order and not wait until they reach out around the pick up date to let them know. Ironically, months later I reached out to Kylie not knowing she was the same person who fell through on my birthday cake. I requested a cake and even got an email stating she had availability, but later received a follow up email stating she is booked and can't complete my order. This seems to be a pattern of not being able to follow through on orders. That will likely be our last attempt at trying Kylie's cakes. I hired Kylie to make a custom Kuromi cake because a) a regular bakery wouldn't accept an edible image purchased online, for licensing reasons, and b) I didn't want a fondant monstrosity (fonstrosity?) of the sort that other local custom cake designers seemed to specialize in. Kylie's design was tasteful and caringly done, true to the examples on her Yelp page. Plus it was reasonably priced, generously sized, timely and delicious! The cutest and tastiest cake!! I ordered a cake for my birthday from Kymoto and was very impressed. We picked up the order from the home bakery, and communication with the bakery was super prompt! She was also accommodating when I pushed my pick up time around half an hour. I got a lunchbox cake with vanilla/strawberry flavor, and it was sooo good! It's definitely on the sweeter side if you compare it with like an Asian bakery cake. However, I love sweet/buttercream cakes so it was perfect for me!! The cake art was SO beautiful, I could not stop staring at it! So much detail for a small cake. The cake is definitely very small and is good for around 2-3 people (4 people if you all have small slices). Considering the size, it is definitely on the pricey side, but that's what you pay for the time they put into it (and to support small business)! Cake was the lunch box cake and it's definitely a shareable size. We ordered a chocolate cake with cookies & cream buttercream. It was very soft and moist cake! I ordered two bento cakes, but unfortunately right as I got home I accidentally flipped one over and messed it up. Ordering: Booking can be done a week in advance with at least a two day minimum notice, however I highly recommend booking as soon as possible. I noticed that even a week in advance, a lot of time slots for pick up were taken up. Additionally, the business is closed Sundays and Mondays, so plan ahead. When ordering through the website, you can choose from pre-designed selections or pay extra to have a custom cake. I opted for the size 4'' custom cake, with a chocolate/cookies and cream flavor, lettering, and two 3d animals for an extra $10. Total, my order was $35. While this is pricey for a small cake, it may be worth it for special occasions. Pick Up: Pick up is in a nice area in Tustin. The owner was great with being flexible when I had to change my pick up time. Communication was prompt through email. Cake: The cake itself, while a lot smaller than I thought it would be, was one of the cutest I've ever seen. It also tasted great, though very sweet, like your average buttercream cake. The detailing on the 3d animals was impressive. My only points of feedback would be that when I initially indicated what lettering I wanted on the cake, the actual final product reflected a shortened version, which is completely fine. However, I think a heads up would have been nice. Still very happy with the final product of the cake. Holy crap - the literal cutest cakes I have ever seen! Once I saw them on IG, I always knew I wanted to try them and they did not disappoint! The flavors were so good without being toooo sweet (obvi still pretty sweet since it's a cake haha). Trying to get a custom cake at most bakeries typically requires a larger size and can get pretty expensive depending on the design. There are also pre-designed cakes available starting at $12. I was able to order a few days in advance on the website which had a lot of options include 4' and 6' cakes. There were a few pre-made options available. After ordering, I got an email with all the details including pickup address (delivery was also available for an additional fee I believe). A few days before, Kylie the owner messaged me to clarify some details. I was really satisfied since maybe some messages I left were a little vague. I texted her my make and model and informed her that I would be a little late than my original time. She quickly responded and I received my cake within 4 minutes of getting there.
