Smaller bakery compared to Costa Mesa location. Probably because not many people shop here. They have specific items like cheesecakes, pieces of cake, sourdough, pudding, cornets. It's good but I feel like this place is sweeter than Costa Mesa. It's nice service though.
This authentic Japanese bakery inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace in Irvine features a lot of delicious desserts like pastry cream filled things, a Japan-esque custard pudding, a variety of freshly baked loaves including sandwich bread, soft serve including a real matcha soft serve, an top-quality iced coffee jelly drink, and the usual items like cookies, muffins, pastries with Bavarian cream, and sometimes even a yakisoba-filled roll, all for super reasonable prices. There's only one person working at any given time, but they are efficient and do their best to be pleasant and courteous. The vibe is very clean, organized, well-maintained, and honestly presents very invitingly for people who know and love the quality of authentic Japanese bakery goods. So happy to live near Hamada-ya in Irvine!
This is a great bakery tucked into the Mitsuwa Marketplace. It has a wide selection of Japanese inspired goods, and they are all delicious. I came here just to try the Coffee Jelly Milk (delicious), but ended up being intrigued by their display case of pastries. I ordered a wide variety of goods and found them all to be very yummy. I do recommend stopping here for a quick lunch because they have a great selection of Japanese sandwiches served on milk bread. I got the combo with the katsu and the egg salad, but the egg salad was definitely my favorite. I would highly highly recommend their coffee jelly milk as well. I can't wait to come back to try more!
got the cream cornet and pudding and genuinely the best pudding i've ever had. it was so creamy and the perfect sweetness and i will be getting it everytime i want a dessert.
One of my favorite items here is the matcha soft serve. It is flavorful and I like the toppings like kinako, mochi, and almond. It is big and I usually can't finish it all, but it makes me happy. I also enjoy the chocolate donut and the custard pudding from the case. Shopping center parking. Food court seating available. Please come and create your own adventure.
This is my go to place for whenever i'm craving soft serve. The ice cream is creamy and even has golden grahams cereal at the bottom for a nice crunch! Our ice cream was not too sweet and had just the perfect amount of sweetness to it. Our server was super sweet :)
Hamadaya Bakery is an absolute godsend when it comes to their Coffee Milk Jelly. It is currently my top favorite drink of all time. If you love coffee, definitely give this a try - it just tastes more refreshing than your average Starbucks drink. Also, be sure to try their fresh bread as well - it's the bomb! The staff is generally kind and accommodating here and I always try to stop by whenever I'm at this plaza. Love Hamadaya!!!
Great option for grabbing tasteful bakery and affordable drink. Place is located inside Mutsuwa Supermarket, within the food court area precisely. Friendly staff and definitely recommended all the bread option. Please pay attention to some post menu by cashier coz they display there in addition to the menu on the wall.
Went to Mitsuwa market , saw this small dessert store and try their green tea soft serve was creamy and not very sweet. no regrets it. Service was nice here.
I LOVE this place!!! Such an underrated little bakery inside mitsuwa marketplace!! They have so many drink options, pastries, fresh breads, and savory breads. All of their desserts and pastries are the perfect sweetness, not too sweet! - boston cream donut: 9.6/10. My go-to pastry. Sadly, it's always sold out as they have a very limited amount of everything. I love how it has a dark chocolate shell that is crunchy with a sweet, custard filling. - matcha soft serve: 8.8/10. One of the best matcha ice creams/soft serves I have ever had. The matcha flavor is very strong and it comes with cereal on the bottom (freeeeee!) Crunchy and creamy goodness ! You can also add mochi, kinako powder, and kuromitsu (my recommended toppings). Other items I would recommend are their fresh breads, specifically the boloniya, coffee jelly drink, cream cornet, and kinako milk tea.

Stopped by Hamadaya Bakery and decided to try the vanilla soft serve. It ended up being one of the better soft serves I've had in a while. The texture was smooth and creamy without being overly rich, and the vanilla flavor was clean and noticeable without tasting artificial or overly sweet. It had a balanced finish that made it easy to enjoy to the last bite. Service was calm and polite. The staff moved efficiently and handled the steady stream of customers with ease. My order was taken and prepared quickly, and the presentation was clean and simple. The bakery itself is minimal and inviting, with neatly arranged shelves and a bright, open layout. It's not a large space, but it feels thoughtfully designed and well maintained. You can grab something quickly or stay for a bit without feeling rushed. This is a small bakery inside of mitsuwa! It looks a little old, but they have yummy dessert! I just got back from Japan and this bakery's coffee jelly met my standards! It was delicious
Such a cute little bakery located inside the Mitsuwa! I come here whenever I'm craving a quick soft serve- it is such a sizeable portion for the price. I like getting the plain vanilla one, and it also comes with a little cereal at the bottom that gives it a good crunch. The coffee jelly milk is also great, it feels similar to a boba drink but it's a lot cheaper. Whenever I come here it's always the same lady who I'm sure is tired of seeing me lol, but she is so sweet and kind and patient when I have trouble deciding what to pick here! As for the pastries/desserts, the custard pudding cup deserves more love! I'm not sure if it's housemade here, but if you've ever been to Japan, it tastes exactly like the ones you buy from the konbini! I remember I would buy one almost every day of my trip, so I've grown cravings for it that Hamadaya satisfies in OC. The bavarian chocolate cream is a fun decadent pastry if you're into chocolate- comes with so many chocolate chips. The cheese bread is also a go-to for me if I'm in a savory mood- it's exactly what it sounds like, cheese and bread but who doesn't love those two things? Egg katsu sandwich is good if you're looking for something more substantial. The strawberry shortcake I've tried here was also good, but I did pick it up near their closing so it felt a little dried out. Definitely would recommend coming here earlier in the day for fresher and better selection of pastries! read more

The best bakery in town! Love the bread. It's fresh with minimal ingredients and tastes delicious. It's open early on Sundays before the rest of the restaurants. It's empty and easy to pickup pastries for breakfast. Kids love the hotdog pastries and the fruit tarts. Service is always great! Easy parking before everything else opens. read more

A necessary respite from the prototypical boba dessert shop you'd encounter in SoCal. I had started to wane tired of the usual tea and milk combo, and stumbled upon this shop that I probably passed a thousand or more times when shopping in Mitsuwa. I really thought the variety of drinks and small bites here were inspiring--and so I had to try the Coffee Jelly Milk, which I found to be probably the best thing I've consumed in the last week. The cashier was very particular about what drinks can be modified, and which can't, so keep in that mind if you have specific requirements, this might not be the place. I ordered the jelly with my request being the least amount of syrup/sugar added, and it came out perfect. She was allowing limited modifications to the jelly drinks, and the iced matcha one but I believe that's all. In an age where neon lit boba shops and overly gimmicky toppings seem to take center stage, we sometimes forget that the most basic tried and true desserts out of Japan are just plain delicious. I will be back to try the infamous matcha soft serve. read more

We were craving matcha soft‑serve, so we popped into the food court in Mitsuwa Supermarket to grab a snack. They offer soft serve, drinks, and a selection of baked goods. The soft serve is a good portion for $5, and you can choose vanilla, matcha, or a swirl of both. We also tried the hojicha donut--it was delicious, filled generously with hojicha cream. One of the best places to get matcha soft serve. This bakery has a lot of options and I'm surprised at how well made the baked goods and even the desserts. The Service was very friendly and they answered a lot of my questions. Ambiance was a little food court tucked in the back of a Japanese grocery store. My go to bakery whenever I'm in the area. It's located inside mitsuwa market. My favorites: Coffee jelly - highly recommend getting first thing in the morning since I've been here several times and they were already sold out! Cold milk with fresh sweet coffee jelly in it. The more you drink, the more it tastes like a sweet latte with jelly. I prefer jelly to boba since it's softer and not as chewy. Crispy cream bread - crunchy outer shell with custard cream inside. Egg donut - a less guilty donut since it has a hard-boiled egg in it. Makes me feel somewhat better about eating one since there's protein in it! Matcha soft serve - it's a generous portion! I love this soft serve ice cream with crunchy cereal at the bottom. One of my favorite matcha soft serves and always reminds me of Japan. Service is quick and food is always fresh. Prices are pretty reasonable. Definitely recommend early morning visits to get the bread and coffee before they sell out. read more

I haven't tried much from here, but...... from what I did try, I love, love, love their Coffee Jelly Milk. It is one of the rare places that still sells this beverage. It's milky and the coffee jelly is strong and tastes so good :) I definitely try to get this when I am in the area. The customer service is always kind and sweet. Little bakery tucked inside the mitsuwa market in a popular plaza. People come here for the coffee jelly milk as it's kind of unique to most drink places. The coffee jelly is very strong and there is a sweet brown sugar syrup. And then it's regular whole milk. There is no milk alternatives unfortunately, so have lactaid prepared! It's simple yet so refreshing on a sunny morning. There's also little breads and ice cream but they seem to sell out of popular items pretty early as a lot were gone by the time I arrived around noon. I think the price is pretty affordable as well. read more

My husband and I are big fun of Boston cream donuts here. It's amazing. Today I decided to try an iced matcha latte and it's horrible. It's just tastes like sweet milk. I don't know what's up with the color of this drink too. Not even green. Straight to trash. read more
I can't speak to any of the baked goods as I only ordered their green tea soft serve ($4.50) but it was delicious! Located inside the Mitsuwa market, their green tea soft serve is served in a cup with some cereal on the bottom and the combination of the creamy soft serve and crunchy cereal was perfect. A lot of places that serve green tea ice cream or soft serve end up being too mild or floral-y in my opinion, but Hamadaya's soft serve had a strong and distinct matcha flavor, reminiscent of Matcha Cafe Maiko. Service was also quick and friendly. If their pastries are anything like their soft serve, I'll have to check them out next time too. read more
their matcha soft serve is spectacular!! delightfully creamy and the matcha flavor is prominent. the vanilla has a slight taste of condensed milk, which i love. it's located inside mitsuwa marketplace and is next to the claw machines. service is always nice here and prompt. the soft serve also comes with cereal at the bottom and it adds the perfect crunch to the dessert :) read more
this delicious bakery is hidden inside mitsuwa & it's such a gem. they have a variety of baked pastries, drinks, and even soft serve! i got their pudding and strawberry cheesecake danish, which were both extremely delicious. the pudding was very soft and just the right amount of sweetness. the strawberry cheesecake danish tasted like a cheesecake on a buttery flakey crust. i will definitely come back again. read more

Honestly, my favorite soft serve place. Located in Mitsuwa marketplace, Hamadaya is a bit of a local secret when it comes to soft serve. It cured my Sunday Scaries. The price and quality are both on point. Also, can't forget the crunchy cereal. It makes me fall in love with cereal every time. I have tried both just vanilla and mixed vanilla and matcha and both were amazing. This is my go-to place for soft serve. We tried the egg donut for the first time and thought it would be like a salted egg yolk or something, but no. It was a whole boiled egg! It was a great combo of sweet and salty. They even warmed it up and it was crispy and sweet on the outside with a whole boiled egg on the inside. I would definitely order again. Parking: parking lot but can get packed with all the restaurants nearby. There is also parking in the back (at the other entrance). Location: located in mitsuwa next to the food court so serves for some delightful dessert... or appetizer for your meal XD. That's what happened to us hehe. read more

This cute little bakery is located inside Mitsuwa Market. It's very small but quite a bit of selection. They seem to be famous for their jelly coffee. I did not get one this time but I will be back to try! The strawberry cream croissant was so delicious! I did also enjoy the tamago & ham sandwich next time I will try the tamago & tonkatsu sandwich. The cream puff was good it wasn't very sweet which I actually kinda liked. I can't wait to come back and try some more that they have! read more
