Word is that this location at Newport Beach is fairly new, and I saw a video showing the insanely long line when it first opened. Luckily when I had the craving, it was much more tolerable, about 10 minutes. It's located near Macy's, right across from Starbucks. The line did move at a decent speed and the staff were very friendly, just like their Larchmont Village location. The prices did go up a buck since I last went, at about $6. a cookie. I got a white chocolate mac and a dark chocolate peanut butter chip. The dark chocolate one was warm and soft, tastes fresher than the white chocolate mac cookie, which was not as soft and chewy. Both were thick and heavy, and not too sweet like the double chocolate I got before. It's not bad for an occasional indulgence, but not something I would crave often. Either you like chunky fat cookies or you don't. I love chunky cookies and since the closure of PDM I've not recovered. Levain, the newest addition to Fashion Island, offers some comfort. In all honesty, given its size and the ingredients, levain is fairly priced compared to let's say Hudson's or Milk & Cookies. I got the CCW, WCM, and a slice of coffee cake. I highly recommend warming them up before eating, it makes a big difference. Cookies are almost as good as the ones in NYC. The coffee cake is a bit dense for my liking. The store is cute and clean. Levain Cookies has finally made it to OC! My friend and I went after going to hot yoga, and this was the perfect treat to have after our workout. When we arrived, there was barely a line - 4 people in front of us. If you have ever heard of Levain Cookies, it is the number one cookie shop in New York. When you walk in, you're immediately hit with the scent of cookies, freshly baked bread, scones and more. My friend and I were most interested in their cookies, and they even had some seasonal ones available too. We ordered 5 cookies in total - Chocolate Chip Walnut, Two Chip Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin and two limited fall flavors: Fall Spiced Chocolate Chunk and White Chocolate Macademia Nut. Each of the cookies are quite sizable, crumbly and soft. Levain Bakery is known for these ultra delicious cookies. All the cookies that had dark or milk chocolate were slightly melted while you munch on them, which adds to the experience! In terms of ranking the 5 cookies ordered (best to least), it would be the following: 1. White Chocolate Macademia Nut 2. Oatmeal Raisin 3. Chocolate Chip Walnut 4. Two Chip Chocolate Chip 5. My best tip for Levain Bakery is that they do To-Go orders that you can place ahead of time online and schedule a pick up! Then you don't have to wait in the CRAZY LONG line and you can just bypass the line, walk up to the counter on the left (the counter on the right is where you order food) and then show your confirmation and pick up the cookies. This is how I would rate the cookies we tried: -Rocky Road 10/10 delicious! -Dark chocolate chocolate chip 8/10 -Caramel Chocolate Chip 8/10 - tasty but it tasted more like coconut than caramel -Raspberry Pistachio 7/10 My next best tip is to take the cookies home and microwave or oven warm them to get them nice and gooey-gooey since disappointedly they don't do that in the store! There's no inside seating anyway though and the ambiance is crowded but you can take your cookies to eat outside at the mall. Overall, these are cake like cookies, not buttery gooey cookies so they are good but personally not my favorite type of cookie. Waited in line for ~20 min and ordered the rocky road and OG chocolate chip walnut cookies... I liked the rocky road more. Both cookies were BIG, nutty, and just the right level of sweetness. My only complaint is I wish they came out warmer and softer/gooer as I'm not as much of a fan of harder cookies. I ended up microwaving them at home for 15-20 sec and I liked them better that way. The interior is super cute with blue accents and service was standard, but can get a bit chaotic with the amount of people waiting inside for their orders. Came here on opening day, line was too long at 6:30 Am so came back here in the evening around 5:30 PM line was much shorter so waited for only 20 min. For a grand opening line was managed well and ordering system was extremely organized. Most of the merch was sold out so we got two tote bags, one rocky road cookie and chocolate chip walnut. The cookies are thick and delicious with crispy edges and gooey goodness inside! I got there around 9 p.m. on grand opening day, so the wait was only a few minutes with a short line. I'm glad I didn't take the day off of work because the first to line up showed up at 4:30 a.m. and by 8 a.m., the line got incredibly long. I heard some people waited 4 hours for the cookies. Hopefully, they got the tote bag with goodies because by the time I got there, there were no Newport Beach tote bags. They do have the regular tote bag which is super cute too. Took around 30 minutes with the grand opening hype. The move actually moved pretty fast and the staff were responsive and nice with taking photos and trying to get more mobilized checkouts. Flavors the same as they have been, but word on the street is that they'll have fall flavors soon including a savoury scone and a fall flavored cookie + white chocolate chip macadamia. The cookies can rack up, expect around $20 for 3 cookies but they are hefty and a cut piece can be a decadent treat. I prefer their chocolate chip walnut versus their double chocolate chip as the chocolate can get too sweet. The dark chocolate chocolate cookie is good too (not too sweet). I visited the Levain Bakery at Fashion Island, which had opened just one day earlier. On opening day, I saw people waiting almost three and a half hours just to get their cookies, so I was prepared to leave if the line was still extremely long. Luckily, on the second day, the line wasn't nearly as bad! I waited about 40 minutes. Since I went in the middle of the day, the sun was pretty intense, but thankfully, they had large umbrellas set up along the line, so the wait wasn't too unbearable. When it was finally my turn, I was directed inside by a very friendly staff member. Honestly, walking into the cool air conditioning after standing in the hot sun instantly made me feel better! I still had to wait a little while inside. When it was my turn, I noticed three small kiosks in front of the pastry display. I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to order at the kiosk or with a staff member, but a staff member ended up taking my order. I wanted to buy two boxes. I asked for three chocolate chip cookies in one box, and a Rocky Road, Pistachio Raspberry, and Chocolate Walnut cookie in the other. I also ordered an Americano. The employee didn't seem to understand what I was asking for at first, so I had to repeat myself several times. Eventually, I paid and waited for my order. When my cookies came out, however, everything had been packed into one box. Since I specifically needed two separate boxes, I politely explained this and asked if they could separate them. The employee seemed busy and visibly annoyed, as if having to redo my order was an inconvenience. They took my bag back, and I waited again. When they finally came back and said it was ready, they simply handed it to me and walked away without telling me which cookies were in which box. Since one of the boxes was meant to be a gift, I had to carefully peel off the sticker myself just to figure out which cookies were inside. I was really disappointed by the attitude and the lack of attention to the customer. I understand that a newly opened bakery can be extremely busy, and I don't expect everything to be perfect. But when a customer is already waiting 40 minutes and then has to explain the same order multiple times, a little more patience and friendliness would make a big difference. I'm honestly one of those people who doesn't really understand paying a lot of money for cookies. But I have to admit, these cookies were delicious in a very upscale, indulgent kind of way, and I was satisfied with the taste. That said, if the staff had been a little more friendly and welcoming, I might have left with such a pleasant experience that the sweet cookies and that happy feeling would have made me want to come back. I'll say it, Levain is a vibe! It's really wonderful to have them in Newport Beach. I've been to some other locations in New York and they do an outstanding job with consistency. A lot of places with this much hype don't live up to it, but this spot blew me away. You can tell they pay attention to every detail, from the aesthetic of the space to the quality of the ingredients. I tried the iced cookie milk latte and matcha latte (both come unsweetened, yay!) and a couple of cookies. Everything was incredible - rich, fresh, and perfectly balanced without being sickeningly sweet. And I'm a bit too sweet gal! I loved the dark chocolate chocolate chip cookie.
