Rye Goods was such a delicious and delightful visit experience! The interior is cozy and rustic, and stretches out to a beautiful back dining area. The front is a little tight when it comes to spacing, but the staff members work through it really quickly while ensuring that you get everything that you could want. My boyfriend brought me here as a first stop to our date, and they were soooo delicious! I can't remember everything that I got, but I do remember their éclair being particularly yummy. Their fruits were also perfectly ripe but still tart enough to balance the sweetness of some of their desserts. I also got a bagel with the chive cream cheese. Literally, to die for. It was so good! Their coffee is also good, especially if you like the flavor of espresso (like me, hehe). Definitely recommend Rye to anyone who is looking for a good cup of coffee and a nice spot for breakfast or brunch. My boyfriend and I can't stop talking about the next time we want to come back! There was a line out the door when I arrived. Super snug and homely establishment. They have a lot of savory and sweet varieties to choose from. The main seating area is a walk towards the back. I decided to get the twice baked savory croissant and the chocolate coffee croissant. They were both okay, nothing outstanding. I didn't really taste the caramelized onion chive flavor that was advertised, as the gruyere was very potent. The bread was flat and almost hard. Not a hint of a crisp, flaky exterior in which yields to a soft, airy interior. I imagine both would've tasted a lot better if it was freshly made or warmed up at the least. read more

The egg bagel sammys are insanneeeee. Absolutely the best bagel ever the jalepeno cheese is no joke. The texture of the bagels is absolutely perfect!! I got no modifications and it was absolutely perfect as is. Would highly recommend the egg bagel sammy. The cinnamon roll/orange thing was really good!! Would be better heated up but I would get it again. I wish they had actual cinnamon rolls available!! I will be coming back to try more and get a loaf of the sourdough. Very friendly staff and service but not very good food or drinks. Food items are way too overpriced for what it is and the quality of it. You're paying $18 for a small burrito with 1-2 eggs and handful of potatoes. No protein or veggies or avocado (can be added for $1.5) Bagel is very stale and dense. Matcha latte is not properly whisked or dissolved so you're getting bitter matcha chunks when drinking your latte. Also not sure if the kitchen is very sanitary. No sinks can be seen where they are preparing food so not sure how often cooks are washing their hands. Trash can is right next to fry pans. There was a girl who was handling bagels and toast with the dirty oven mitt on, and using her bare fingers to poke/check the breads if they were done. Came here on a Saturday afternoon grabbed a refreshing kombucha and a morning bun. Both were absolutely delicious. There was an assortment of breads and pastries, both sweet and savory along with a fridge and freezer full of local goodies. The morning bun was absolutely delicious with a not too sweet cinnamon taste and delicious layers. The service was relatively quick since it was not crazy busy in the afternoon. It's a smaller place but very clean and there is sitting in the back. Parking here can be tricky, but I recommend parking across the street near bear flag, and walking over. You can park in the structure, or street park in the area. Everything looked AMAZING, and I ended up getting an almond croissant and the quiche. The quiche was so good and light with the side salad! The almond croissant was perfectly crispy, and a little bit on the hearty side. There was a hint of citrus in it which was so fun and different too! It's a really good bakery but the pricks are a premium for what it is. For example, all the sour dough bread is $12. It's good bread but it's double the price of the Whole Foods, house baked sour dough. Some people with gluten sensitivity seem to be able to eat the goods here. But unfortunately that's not the case for the couple of gluten sensitive people I personally know. I'd come back are try some other things but it's difficult to justify paying some of the prices here. read more

Lido, Newport Beach, CA Rye Goods bakery was on my to visit list for quite some time. I was intrigued with the use of Rye flour in the baked goods and visited Christmas Eve. to pick up a few items for Christmas morning breakfast and dinner with family. Food wise, we completely broke tradition this year with our normal routine for Christmas breakfast and dinner. I wanted to make breakfast sandwiches for Christmas breakfast and wanted a home made tasting English muffin, with no interest or time in baking them myself. I was elated when I found out Rye goods had them, but bummed out to hear they were frozen not fresh. We arrived to the bakery, and grabbed a pack of frozen muffins out of the freezer, $14. That was my Christmas Morning breakfast splurge. My husband looked around the small bread shelf and picked up a box of eight Parker Rolls. Nothing was priced. We went to pay at the register and my husband eyed the savory seasonal hand pies, made with winter squash and ordered one of those. We had a bit of sticker shock when we got the final price at the register...$48! As we were paying my husband noticed a 12% employee benefit pop up on the screen, there is no signage anywhere we could see explaining this charge. He initially thought the guy was being cool and giving us an employee discount? maybe for first visit? The man at the register told us thank you for your gratuity. At that point my husband questioned him and found out about the employee benefit charge. He asked if it was optional and we were told, no. Who knows how much really goes to the employees versus the business owner?! At minimum, a customer should know up front about the mandatory charge versus during the payment process. Signage should be placed in the store and on the website. About a week later we were walking on Forest Ave in Laguna Beach and saw a sign on a storefront for Rye Goods opening soon. My husband joked and said we invested in that future opening. So with tip and tax, thats roughly an extra 25% on top of already high prices! So on to the review for the items we purchased: 3 stars The English muffins were slightly shrunken and I could tell they suffered from being frozen at purchase. They were good not great, very heavy and dense. I just made some dough and baked off some Rye English muffins yesterday that blew these out of the water, in taste and texture. 3 stars seasonal hand pie: My husband said the hand pie was ok to good. 5 stars: The impulse buy of the purchase, the parker dinner rolls, proved to be the best choice, even with the 25% tax/tip surcharge (almost $3 per roll) they were dense, buttery and soft, warmed up with Christmas dinner, everyone loved them. We decided to try the soup of the day (butternut squash), cranberry raspberry danish, morning bun, and bagel sammy with tomato aioli. The baked goods were yummy enough, but they were all a little too sweet for my taste, and our grand total spent was on the higher side; to put it into perspective, the bagel sandwich was $16, but there was nothing special or memorable about it, in my opinion. For all of the sweet pastries, it seems like they put quite a lot of sugar across generous layers, so it started to get a little bit tiring to eat over time. The soup itself was flavorful and delicious, but it came to us almost at room temperature - not hot at all. The service here is great and so is the food. The girl at the register was amazing I went the morning of the boat show. I got a seasonal earl grey latte. I wish it was stronger on the earl grey flavor as it just tasted like vanilla but still amazing. The girl at the front recommended the biscuit with whipped butter and Jam and OMG. It was amazing I want to go back just for that. They were unfortunately out of bagels which I have heard so much about but I got the breakfast burrito. While in Newport Beach, we went to Rye Goods 2x for breakfast. (If you stay at the lido house, it's within walking distance.) I'd recommend going in at opening time since there can be a bit of line if you go later. This spot is more of grab and go and you can't really dine in. They have a variety of fresh baked goods ranging from breads, bagels, croissants, other type of pastries. We got their famous Egg Bagel Sammy and it probably was the best thing I ate in SoCal! I chose the jalapeño bagel and they stuffed it with chive cream cheese, crispy smashed potato, egg, chives, and this chili crunch oil. The flavor combo of all these elements were just amazing. The bagel was soft and freshly made. It was around $14 and so filling! I also enjoyed their almond croissant. I would come back again for their egg sandwhich and various croissants. The blueberry scone and chocolate chip cookie had too much of a salty taste so we'd probably avoid that. Customer service both times we went were great and our order was made in less than 10 minutes. As good as B patisserie (San Fran), susu bakery (Seattle), parla crepe (Tokyo). As bae and I were waiting for bear flag, we walked across the street for some goodies. $21 with tip got me: Butter croissant $4 Veggie pepper jack butternut squash sandwich $12 Seasonal snail bun $4.50? butter croissant Made with a sourdough base was new, but very tasty. It was a touch denser than other croissants, but still maintained it's discernable layers. Very surprised and satisfied with this one. The outside was still crisp and crackled as you ripped off sections even at 1pm!! Seasonal snail bun Idk what exactly it is, but I was told it's walnut cream, pears, spices, and overall great. This pastry is insanely high quality, I loved this one quite a bit. The flavor is amazing and wasn't overly sweet, and each bite was almost a new flavor because it's so damn good. 1/22/2022 Did not know this bakery existed until I drove through while trying to find parking to get coffee at Blue Bottle. Was excited at this new discovery! Did not realize that this bakery sold healthier versions of baked goods and all their baked goods are organic! Ordered what I could when I went past noon. Ordered: Almond cake, Semla, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Vegan Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, Banana Bread, and Blessed Booch Kombucha. The letdowns: Banana bread, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Vegan Oatmeal Raisin Cookie and the very overpriced kombucha. Would have loved to love them all, but oh well. My favorites: Almond cake and Semla. The almond cake had a light cake-like, nutty flavor and texture. It had visible fruit like fresh raspberry that brought a sweet, fruity flavor too. Compared to the other items I got, it was on the sweeter side. Would be lovely with a nice cup of tea. The Semla was something I've never had before and I absolutely loved it! The bread was like a cardamom flavored bun and is filled with marzipan and whipped cream, then dusted with powdered sugar. The marzipan was not smooth, but had coarsely ground almonds in them! Which I loved! It gave more flavor and texture in contrast to the smooth whipped cream. This is a must-try! Would love to be back to try their other items! February is filled with some amazing holidays! One of the most underrated in the US is fastelavn!! I cannot miss an opportunity to celebrate "Scandinavian Halloween" so I went on the hunt for some fettisdagsbulle! Finding this unique Scandinavian pastry was so much harder than I thought! Luckily I found Rye Goods! Located around the shops in lido marina, rye goods has an amazing newport location! I couldn't stop myself from browsing the surrounding stores before going inside. Parking was a little difficult, due to it being a Saturday. For a Saturday morning, rye goods was pretty busy with a minimal line. I was alerted that today was the first day they started making fettisdagsbulle for the holiday. Note: Rye goods calls the pastry a semla (the Swedish way)! Much easier to pronounce! The girl at the counter was very nice. They currently have two types of semlas; almond and berry. The cashier encouraged me to go with the berry- and I am glad I did! This semla was PHENOMENAL! You could have told me it was straight from Denmark! The cream was sensational, the custard mesmerizing, and the bun perfectly sweet. One of the most authentic semlas I have ever eaten!
