I was grabbing dinner with my friend at Fashion Island, who recommended that we get gelato for dessert. I was so excited to find out he was referring to Bacio di Latte. Bacio di Latte recently opened a location where I'm from, but I haven't gotten around to trying the place because of its ridiculously long line. We strolled into the storefront around 6:45pm. Since we were the only customers at the time, I took my time trying as many samples that piqued my interest. I tried the salted caramel, strawberry cheesecake, caffe & caramel latte, buttercream pretzel, and fragola super latte. The consistency of the gelato was smooth and creamy, and the flavors were bold and pretty spot on. I honestly couldn't have gone wrong with any flavor, but I settled for a piccolo (smallest) cup of two flavors: caffe & caramel latte and fragola super latte. Particularly the fragola super latte was noteworthy because it reminded me of strawberry milk. Absolutely fantastic! read more

We were walking with a group of friends and we saw what looked like a line for a RIDE at DISNEYLAND but, wait for it! It's a line for GELATO!!! I'm not kidding the line was HUGE!! We have never tried their gelato before and we figured if lots of people are willing to WAIT in line for GELATO then, it must be really good! Right? STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE GELATO: 8/10 I really like it! It does taste like a cheesecake but, I felt like I got a lot of milk or yogurt flavor. It wasn't a bad thing, it just kind of gave my taste buds a curve ball... CHOCOLATE & SALTED CARAMEL:8/10 It seemed like my hubby enjoyed his gelato but, he said it's was just OK. Bacio di Latte is one of the hot gelato shops anywhere you go nowadays. I was at Fashion Island Newport Beach and had to get me some delectable gelato. Came here in the evening and didn't want to wait in the extremely long line so I left. I returned the next morning and long line out the door still existed LOL. There was no way around it. I stayed and waited it out until it was my turn. Very small space inside with limited seating. Love the warm yellow lighting and relaxing atmosphere. Cute decor all around. Two to three staff members were working at the time which seems a lot less than the 6 or 7 workers that I've seen at other Bacio. Staff was okay. I may have irritated the young gentleman staff because I was taking photos while I was ordering in turn holding up the line just a tad. Oh well. Anyway, I tried 2 free samples... Fragola Strawberry Sorbet (vegan) and Custard Cookies & Cream. I didn't care for the strawberry as it was bland. Loved the custard cookies & cream for its smooth and creamy texture. Got 2 flavors in small cup... Cocco Rio (gotta have my coconut) plus Custard Cookies & Cream. Prices are a tad higher than most gelato places. I almost forgot to check in when I was here today, it was such a gorgeous day on fashion Island and this is my favorite ice cream place! I'm glad they don't have one closer or else I would go there every day and weigh 500 pounds. They have the best peanut butter gelato ever! Everyone who works here is so sweet like the ice cream. BF had the salted caramel and I had pistachio gelato. They're very generous with samples which I loveeeee. I also tried the pistachio with Dubai chocolate, which was so amazing. I always want to go to Bacio di Latte whenever I visit Fashion Island. And this time was no different. I was in the mood for caffeine and got a Salted Caramel Affogato for $9.75. Knowing the weather was chilly and the line here was long, no doubt it was a great choice of dessert for the night. So many unique flavors to choose from! I loved that the Regular Cup Size allowed up to 3 flavors! I ultimately went for the Caffè & Caramellatte after trying it out. The flavor was strong, but not too sweet which I liked. Went to Bacio di Latte in Newport Beach I've been here a couple of times and love it every time. It's definitely a spot I keep coming back to whenever I'm around Fashion Island/Newport. Drove past Bacio Cafe at Fashion Island a few times thinking it was just another coffee spot. Turns out, it's a full-on gelato heaven with some really good pastries too. Glad I finally stopped in. They have a great selection of fresh flavors, and the gelato immediately reminded me of my trip to Florence this year. Rich, creamy, and legit. None of that icy stuff pretending to be gelato. I tend to like the flavors with some texture in them (crispy bits, chocolate pieces, etc.), so I went with the salted caramel and stracciatella, and both were excellent. Smooth, flavorful, and totally hit the spot. The place was surprisingly crowded around 8 o'clock on a Wednesday night, which says a lot. Clearly I wasn't the only one craving dessert. It is a little on the pricey side, but hey, it's Fashion Island... and honestly, worth it for quality like this. Parking can be a bit of a hunt too, but consider it your pre-gelato cardio. This location is small with very limited indoor seating, only 1 table that seats 4. It's in Fashion Island which is a popular location with a lot of foot traffic.
