This is for the girl who was working TODAY (8/22) at 3:59pm!!! I appreciate your kindness and professionalism SO MUCH! You were amazing My boyfriend and I came in to get some ice cream after a day at the beach and this employee made us feel beyond welcome. She was kind, funny, and relatable. I just had to come on here and shout her out because I love when someone who's working shares a genuine encounter. Thank you!

I ordered a gotta have it (large) and the snuck the smaller size got a love it (medium).

I ordered a gotta have it (large) and I got a love it (medium). The sneakily hid the size in the cup and I didn't see it until I got home. Disappointing since I paid for the large.

This location was super close the beach (walking distance) and is a great place to take a break from the hot weather. I got the cake batter batter batter which was cake batter ice cream with cookie dough and brownies. My friends got the mango sorbet and cookie dough ice cream in a cone cup. I really liked my flavor and I would definitely get it again. The mango sorbet tasted really good as well! The worker was super sweet and quick since it got fairly crowded. The store was very clean and was just like a normal ice cream store. I recommend coming here if you are near the beach and craving something sweet!

Stale squishy cone, I really wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy

After leaving lunch nearby, I passed by the Newport Beach location and decided it was finally time to give it a try. First impressions were honestly really good. Parking was super easy because they have an open lot, which immediately made the experience less stressful. The bakery itself is also really pretty inside. It has that classic, clean bakery aesthetic that feels warm and inviting without being overly trendy. Everything looked fresh and well displayed, and the atmosphere definitely gave "treat yourself after lunch" energy. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming when I came in. One thing I genuinely liked was that they cut the cake slices fresh in front of you instead of having them prepackaged and sitting out. It made everything feel fresher and a little more personalized, which I appreciated. I decided to try the funfetti cake because I feel like that's such a classic flavor and usually a pretty safe choice. It's simple, nostalgic, and honestly hard to mess up. Unfortunately, this just wasn't for me. The biggest issue for me was the texture. The cake itself was very dense and heavier than I expected. I usually like funfetti cake to feel soft, fluffy, and light, especially paired with buttercream frosting, but this one felt more compact and rich than I personally prefer. The icing also had a grainy texture that really stood out to me. I'm not sure if that's just their style of frosting, but it didn't have the smooth, creamy texture I usually look for in cake frosting. That being said, if you like a denser, richer style of cake, this honestly might be the perfect bakery for you. It just personally is not my preference. I tend to prefer lighter cakes with smoother frosting, so I think this came down more to taste and texture preferences than the bakery doing anything "wrong." Flavor-wise, it wasn't terrible by any means, but it just didn't wow me, especially considering how much I've heard people rave about SusieCakes. I kept comparing it in my head to Magnolia Bakery, which for me personally has softer cake texture and frosting that I enjoy a lot more. That said, I still think the bakery itself is worth visiting at least once because the customer service was great, the space was beautiful, and the experience overall was pleasant. I just personally didn't enjoy the actual cake as much as I hoped I would. Overall, I'd probably come back to try a different flavor before fully writing the place off, but based on the funfetti slice alone, it wasn't my favorite.

To start the process, I emailed Kylie and let her know what I envisioned for my cakes with some pictures attached and the date I needed the cakes. Please note that you do have to order a month in advance. Kylie let me know that there is a minimum purchase of 2 cakes when ordering lunchbox cakes so I ordered 2. The actual cake is vanilla flavor and you have the option of choosing vanilla, strawberry, matcha, or cookies and cream for the buttercream filling. For my mom's birthday, I chose a light purple cake with a cute floral design and strawberry buttercream flavor ($40). The second cake for her birthday had Van Gogh's starry night with vanilla buttercream flavor ($45). For my birthday this year, I ordered a light pink cake with a floral design and matcha buttercream flavor ($45). My second lunchbox cake was light purple with an angel hello kitty design and cookies and cream buttercream filling ($50). It's really cool that you are able to customize your cakes, although it does get pricier as you add more details. The lunchbox cakes come in a circle shape and are the perfect size. There's enough cake to share with a couple people, but it's also not too much cake if you wanted to just enjoy it yourself. :) Once you are set on the details of your order and your pickup time, Kylie sends you your invoice. After that, all you have to do is show up at your designated time to the address provided. Kylie includes cake care instructions for you as well to ensure that your cake stays in good condition until you are ready to enjoy it. I have appreciated the quality of the cakes and I love supporting small businesses so I will definitely order again in the future. Thank you Kylie for your beautiful designs and attention to detail. Your cakes have brought a smile to my face each time and my loved ones have also enjoyed!

While the cake design looked great at first glance, I cannot recommend this business given the $400 price tag for a 6-inch cake. The design is "pretty," but it is misleading. Almost all the decorations were non-edible plastic ornaments, paper printouts, and pre-made models rather than handcrafted sugar work or fondant. For this price, I expected artisanal craftsmanship, not a collection of plastic balls and paper toppers. Once you strip away the non-edible parts, you are left with a basic chiffon cake that tastes no different from a $40 cake at a standard Asian bakery. The massive markup seems to be for the "styling" of plastic toys rather than the actual baking or artistry. It felt like paying a premium for a cake that I had to "disassemble" just to eat.

Unfortunately, after the ownership change, the entire vibe of the place changed. The prices have skyrocketed -- in some cases feeling nearly triple what they used to be -- yet the products themselves really haven't improved. The cookies, pastries, and ingredients feel largely the same as before, except now everything is priced like a luxury boutique bakery. What's most disappointing is that the warmth and neighborhood feel are gone. It used to feel personal and community-oriented. Now the service often feels cold, transactional, and inconsistent. I understand businesses have rising costs, and I don't mind paying premium prices when the experience and quality justify it. But here, it feels like the pricing changed far more than the actual product or customer experience did. It's unfortunate because this genuinely used to be a staple local bakery that many people loved supporting. Unfortunately the new owners killed it.

Best cake tasting experience!…read more We booked a $33 tasting experience a few months ago in preparation for our wedding. Website was very straightforward to book. You have 3 flavors and they give an extensive list of their flavors. We do love that the flavors are unique and very different from other bakeries around Orange County. We opted for the Red Velvet Cake Complimented with Cream Cheese Filling, Espresso Vanilla Cake Complimented with Tiramisu Filling, and Dark Rich Chocolate Fudge Cake Complimented with Chocolate Espresso Filling for our tasting. Upon arriving to our appointment, we found parking in front of the bakery. Its located right behind The Camp. The bakery showroom is very cute and cozy. We love the pink decor and the different cakes they have around the bakery to showcase the various types of wedding cake designs. We were greeted by Rodrick, who had graciously prepared our tastings in the form of mini cakes which we can take home to share the experience with our family. Rodrick was very informative on how the cakes are made and helped us understand how buttercream cakes are different than other types of cakes. The texture is light and not overly heavy like other cakes. The frosting is just the right amount of sweetness and not overly done. We also love how pet friendly the bakery is. We brought our little guy in a stroller and was greeted with so much love. We had the best cake tasting experience here and recommend it to any couples in the area who are looking for a wedding cake vendor.

One of our guests asked to take one home with her. The croissants were amazing and we will need to get the almond chocolate one next time.
