This used to be one of the better neighborhood bakeries around. For years, it had a friendly local feel, fair pricing, and the kind of welcoming atmosphere that kept people coming back regularly. Unfortunately, after the ownership change, the entire vibe of the place changed. The prices have skyrocketed -- in some cases feeling nearly triple what they used to be -- yet the products themselves really haven't improved. The cookies, pastries, and ingredients feel largely the same as before, except now everything is priced like a luxury boutique bakery. What's most disappointing is that the warmth and neighborhood feel are gone. It used to feel personal and community-oriented. Now the service often feels cold, transactional, and inconsistent. I understand businesses have rising costs, and I don't mind paying premium prices when the experience and quality justify it. But here, it feels like the pricing changed far more than the actual product or customer experience did. It's unfortunate because this genuinely used to be a staple local bakery that many people loved supporting. Unfortunately the new owners killed it. read more

This is a quaint bakery with lovely decor and friendly staff. They have a variety of baked goods so expect some tough choices. I got a variety of pastries and they were all tasty with just the right amount of sweetness. Bread base is fluffy with the perfect crisp outside. Would definitely try again! read more

This hole in the wall gem gives you a slice of French cafe experience! I recently went to Paris and I miss it but I can confirm the pastries and coffee taste authentic-it made me feel like I was back in France! This was my first time trying this Bakery and I was SO HAPPY I did. I'm a big fan of Marzipan Princess Cake or often called Swedish Princess Cake. This has been my favorite for many many years and being that I've been to Europe many times I KNOW what good Marzipan made with REAL almonds taste like! Sadly Just about ALL of the bakeries in Orange County that "Claim" they know how to make this rare treat fall short, very short. You end up paying a lot for mostly Fondant and artificial flavoring! I pre- ordred this cake about 8 days before hand and on Christmas Eve it was ready. My guests raved about it and they ALL said it was the BEST Marzipan Princess cake I have EVER served! (Thats saying a lot because host Christmas each year for the past 14 years) Usually I have a bunch of left over cake but NOT this year! I also tried a few of thier Gingerbread men. They were fresh and almost too cute to eat, they were also delicious. The ladies working there were very nice and appricated me as a customer. Something that's lacking at a lot in buisnesses lately. So fellow Yelpers if you're looking for a Marzipan Princess cake or fresh quality baked goods, this is your place! OH and this place is very resonable too! Win Win! read more

Found this cute little shop after having a meal at Tatsunoya two shops down. They sell baked goods and were having a sale on their buttercream cupcakes and I could not resist. The shop is a little small but they have a nice amount of offering on display to choose from. The cupcake is nice and moist and the service is friendly, fast and efficient. I ordered a small (8inch) heart shaped wedding cake for our wedding. It was a white cake filled with Bavarian cream and fresh strawberries. It was so beautifully decorated. It turned out exactly as we wanted. The best part of the cake, however, was how unbelievably delicious it was. It was absolutely perfect in every way. I needed a cake last minute, not only just a cake I needed a heart-shaped cake custom-made the manager Claudia went above and beyond to make sure that I could get this custom cake done within the time. This bakery is in a small shop space, but that belies all the delicious varieties of pastries it serves up! The service is prompt and friendly. I've tried many pastries here including zucchini bread, macaron, ham/cheese croissant among many. These are high quality treats that never disappoint. It's hard to pick a favorite but their ham and parmesan cheese croissant is not the typical kind and tastes very high quality. Zucchini bread loaf is a close second. I'm very picky with pastries since I've tasted many all over the world, and this is definitely one of the best I've tried. read more

Our bakery has been an Orange County tradition since 1955-first as the Cupcake Bakery from 1956-1976 and since then as French's Cupcake Bakery. It has been recently rebranded as Le Petite Magnifique French Bakery as of 2024. Owned and operated by locals to Costa Mesa. All of our baked goods are made on the premises by our skilled staff. Hi Karen. Yes, we will have King Cake. Unfortunately we are not able to take any more orders, so we will make as many as we can for Monday and Tuesday and it will be first come, first-served.

What kind of buttercream is the icing on your cupcakes? Do you offer any cakes or cupcakes with Swiss buttercream?

Hi Diem. We only do one type of buttercream, so unfortunately Swiss buttercream is not an option with us.

Hi! I was wondering if you have any vegan options?

Hi Melissa. we do, but it is very limited. We have a dessert item called Peanut Butter Bar and a cookie called Walnut Divinity. Those two items are the only items which qualify as vegan and they are both carried in the store on a daily basis.

Hi Austin. With sufficient advance notice, we are able to make custom cakes, cupcakes and cookies.

Will French's Cupcake Bakery be making King Cakes this year for 2021 Mardi Gras?

I just personally didn't enjoy the actual cake as much as I hoped I would. It was 10 min before closing & idk if the girls were just rushing to close down but one girl in particular had an attitude. There was a miscommunication / misunderstanding with the girl who took my coffee order (I had assumed the seasonal banana latte came with the foam as pictured & because she didn't ask if I wanted the foam, I didn't ask for it more-so bc she asked if I wanted the brittle on top). When they handed me my drink it was a plain banana latte with no foam or brittle. I was ignored when I tried calling for the barista until another girl followed up - however this girl had an attitude. She told me that I must not have ordered it since they ask at the register if I want foam with brittle. Explained they didn't ask. Instead she just said "sorry I'll let them know for next time". And walked away leaving me with my drink as is. Didn't offer any sort of resolution. I walked in and asked they could charge me extra for the foam. The same girl with the attitude remade my drink and handed it to me. No thank you, no sorry, nothing. First time experiencing this kind of service. Not sure if the girl is new but saw someone else share a similar experience couple days ago. Wish I would have asked for her name!

I could go on and on about them... seriously. This time we had to come try their collab with Cake Picnic, which was the golden hour grey donut. Let me tell you, it was bomb.com. The orange flavor was phenomenal and I have no notes. We also got the strawberry donut and hot chocolate with almond milk, both obviously very good as well. It was my first time getting the hot chocolate and I was honestly surprised with how yummy it was. It was not too chocolatey and not too milky. It was the perfect balance and the perfect pairing with the donuts.

Overall, the cinnamon roll was alright. It was a brioche roll so you would think it might be lighter and fluffy, but ours was pretty dry. However, the cream on top was insanely good. It carried the roll. The hazelnut twist was kind of what you would expect. A twisted pastry but with a hefty amount of hazelnut-chocolate spread thru the layers. We sat in a little nook, where there was a magnetic black board, where there were word tiles you could rearrange in any way. It was a nice place to just look around at all the sentences the community wrote. Chess tables were also available as extra seating. Overall, the service was good, but could be better when warming up pastries, so that the customer can enjoy them properly!

We were customers here for many years. This year we placed an order for one of their pricey cakes and we all agreed it did not taste good (it was dry and had fewer layers, but cost more). We took it back to see what they would do for us and the owner comes running out and tells us there are no bad cakes in this bakery and they were all perfect. She called us liars and said there was no return policy as there is no need, there are no bad bakes. She insisted we weren't appreciating her perfect cake (claiming she oversees each individual bake all the way through to ensure nothing but perfection). In the end we got a refund, but were told we were banned from the store as she couldn't let us ruin her reputation. We said that we didn't want this when we came in, we have been customers for years. She just said that we were because of the perfection of the cakes. We pointed out she got the order wrong and listed the differences in what we got, and she just told us we were both wrong and unreasonable. I spoke with someone who lives around the corner from the store and they said that they used to come all the time until the ownership changed hands and now the food is always dry and doesn't taste right. Seeing the other reviews that have been coming out lately, I see a trend. We said, 'hey, bad bakes happen, it's no big deal, we just want to get something if we paid so much'. read more

Delicious cupcakes. This place has been around for years - before the cupcake craze - and their flavor and quality is still consistent. This is a REAL bakery. Don't get me wrong, I'll enjoy a sprinkles cupcake from time to time, but usually when somebody at the office buys them for somebody's birthday. I don't actually go there. French's Bakery? This bakery has the most delicious cakes around. I use them for al my special fiber parties and special occasions. Every year my kids and husband know frenchs will be there with there favorite cake.
