I've been coming to this bakery for years and was a loyal customer under the previous ownership. It used to be one of my favorite neighborhood bakeries because the prices were reasonable and it felt like a great local option for birthday treats, cookies, and cakes. Unfortunately, since the ownership change, the pricing has increased dramatically while the products themselves feel largely unchanged. Most recently, I purchased 12 simple vanilla and chocolate cake pops for a school event and paid $60. At $5 per cake pop, I was genuinely surprised by the cost, especially considering these were standard cake pops without custom decorations or specialty ingredients. This isn't a criticism of the staff, who have always been friendly. My concern is simply that the bakery no longer feels like a good value. The current pricing is comparable to, or even higher than, some well-known premium bakeries in the area, yet the quality and overall experience don't feel comparable. It makes me sad to write this because I used to recommend this bakery frequently. I hope the owners take a look at their pricing because longtime customers will likely notice the difference. read more

This used to be one of the better neighborhood bakeries around. For years, it had a friendly local feel, fair pricing, and the kind of welcoming atmosphere that kept people coming back regularly. Unfortunately, after the ownership change, the entire vibe of the place changed. The prices have skyrocketed -- in some cases feeling nearly triple what they used to be -- yet the products themselves really haven't improved. The cookies, pastries, and ingredients feel largely the same as before, except now everything is priced like a luxury boutique bakery. What's most disappointing is that the warmth and neighborhood feel are gone. It used to feel personal and community-oriented. Now the service often feels cold, transactional, and inconsistent. I understand businesses have rising costs, and I don't mind paying premium prices when the experience and quality justify it. But here, it feels like the pricing changed far more than the actual product or customer experience did. It's unfortunate because this genuinely used to be a staple local bakery that many people loved supporting. Unfortunately the new owners killed it. read more

They turned out fabulous and delicious. While waiting for my order, I couldn't help but admire their abundance of pastries. I ended up bringing home a croissant, fruit danish and eclair for my parents - they give this bakery their stamp of approval. I've been going her since I was a kid, but what a disappointment it's become. Went to pickup some chocolate chip cookies today for the JG picnic. "We're sold out". The other option was a $3.75 cookie, I asked the price on (100) and she says $3.75 each. I left and went across the street to Nothing Bunt Cakes for great service and a savings of roughly $200. I highly recommend this place! We ordered a cake for a big event, but the person taking my order accidentally noted the wrong date--it was ready a week early! We were stressed, but they were incredibly kind and understanding. This is our go to bakery for any special event. The first time we used them was two years ago for my son's first birthday. They made a beautiful two tiered cake for us. It was so incredibly delicious, creamy, decadent and moist. I can't even use enough adjectives to describe how amazing this was. Every time we go my husband has to get their cheese danish. Literally anything you get here is going to be perfection. As soon as you walk in, the smell alone is worth a trip. They also sell candles with that smell. The staff is fairly friendly. read more

Our bakery has been an Orange County tradition since 1955-first as the Cupcake Bakery from 1956-1976 and since then as French's Cupcake Bakery. It has been recently rebranded as Le Petite Magnifique French Bakery as of 2024. Owned and operated by locals to Costa Mesa. All of our baked goods are made on the premises by our skilled staff. What kind of buttercream is the icing on your cupcakes? Do you offer any cakes or cupcakes with Swiss buttercream?

Hi Diem. We only do one type of buttercream, so unfortunately Swiss buttercream is not an option with us.

Hi! I was wondering if you have any vegan options?

Hi Melissa. we do, but it is very limited. We have a dessert item called Peanut Butter Bar and a cookie called Walnut Divinity. Those two items are the only items which qualify as vegan and they are both carried in the store on a daily basis.

Hi Austin. With sufficient advance notice, we are able to make custom cakes, cupcakes and cookies.

Will French's Cupcake Bakery be making King Cakes this year for 2021 Mardi Gras?

We got to talk about life and her business, and she was super sweet and down to earth. You can tell she genuinely means well. She's been doing this for 7 years, which I didn't know, and you can tell there's real care in the quality of what she makes and hands out to people. We asked what she recommended and she pointed us to the cinnamon roll and the blueberry, and my wife got the cookies and cream gluten free muffin. My wife thoroughly enjoyed hers. It was moist, perfectly cooked, and we honestly couldn't even tell it was gluten free. Her only suggestion was a little cream or icing filled in the middle, since most of it was the cookies part and a cream center would match the cookies and cream idea. The cinnamon roll muffin was easily the best one. It had a perfect crunch, amazing flavor, the right amount of sweetness, and a good balance of density and airiness, cooked perfectly through and through. I was shocked that this little piece of delicacy was that yummy. The blueberry was also phenomenal. It had chunks of what I think was white chocolate in there, so every bite had that tartness from the blueberry, then the light airiness of the muffin, then the sweet, sugary bites of the white chocolate. I put the order 5 days before I said it needed it and they agreed it can be done by then. I thought it was easy and I just followed it up with the change of topping on the cake. I explicitly stated to text me if they needed anything else from me since I have never done this before. I probably should've followed them up, but I was busy that week. Since I didn't hear anything afterwards I thought I had secured my order. The day I come to pick up the cake, they tell me they don't have the order. The lady who I spoke to, who I'm assuming was on the phone when I initially called, is telling me I put a request not an order and that I didn't even provide my full name (not true, I did). I'm being told that I shouldve put down a deposit and have a contract with them for the cake. I wasn't provided with any contract or a Zelle username. If I had that information I would've absolutely done it. As a business you should provide the customer with that sort of information. I had no idea and I wasn't told that thru text. Should I have followed up? Absolutely, i know that now. There's no information on the website about a contract or deposit information. Only the phone number that I first called. So they should probably update that if they have so many orders and can't keep track with request. There was a lot of deflection from the lady when i tried to explain my grievance. No apology either for the confusion. I felt crazy because I thought I might've missed their messages. Nope nothing. Only the Zelle information after I had arrive there. Luckily, they had puff pastry ready and told me they could have the cake ready in 15 min, and I really needed the cake so I agree to still do business. When I got the cake it was still warm and they told me to freeze it in my refrigerator for it to set. 15 min to get to my place and the ganache has melted off the top and custard had already spilled out from the sides. I had a long drive afterwards and not even an insulated bag could save it. It did taste good, it's too bad about communication, and everything else.

We were customers here for many years. This year we placed an order for one of their pricey cakes and we all agreed it did not taste good (it was dry and had fewer layers, but cost more). We took it back to see what they would do for us and the owner comes running out and tells us there are no bad cakes in this bakery and they were all perfect. She called us liars and said there was no return policy as there is no need, there are no bad bakes. She insisted we weren't appreciating her perfect cake (claiming she oversees each individual bake all the way through to ensure nothing but perfection). In the end we got a refund, but were told we were banned from the store as she couldn't let us ruin her reputation. We said that we didn't want this when we came in, we have been customers for years. She just said that we were because of the perfection of the cakes. We pointed out she got the order wrong and listed the differences in what we got, and she just told us we were both wrong and unreasonable. I spoke with someone who lives around the corner from the store and they said that they used to come all the time until the ownership changed hands and now the food is always dry and doesn't taste right. I stopped in for a few pastries and a double espresso. Everything looked beautiful, and the pastries were good, but I was surprised by the prices. An éclair was nearly $6, and both the Napoleon and tiramisu were over $9 each. By the time I paid, the total was over $31 for three pastries and a coffee. The quality was good, but I didn't feel the experience justified the price. There are plenty of excellent bakeries in Orange County where I feel you get better value for your money. Delicious cupcakes. This place has been around for years - before the cupcake craze - and their flavor and quality is still consistent. This is a REAL bakery. Don't get me wrong, I'll enjoy a sprinkles cupcake from time to time, but usually when somebody at the office buys them for somebody's birthday. I don't actually go there. French's Bakery? My dad used to get coffee cakes from there- the big pizza shaped ones every Sunday and I always have fond memories of those times.
