Food: Came on a late night. Walked pass by this place and decided to give it a try. I ordered the spicy chicken kebab entree with rice no salad. Spicy chicken was not too spicy just a hint and chicken was tender, flavorful, & juicy. Rice was soft and hot. Overall the entree was really good! I'm not into Mediterranean food that much but this has to be my favorite one! Ask for some sauces on the side, owner gave me a white sauce and hot sauce and utensils to go with my meal. Service: The owner was the cashier and took our order. He was very friendly and nice and very welcoming. Ambiance: Nice and small, next to Newport Beach. It's a vibe all around. They close at 12am. As a person who isn't into Mediterranean food, I give this place 9/10 stars! This will be my go to Mediterranean food. read more

This was a huge disappointment nothing but hype. I was expecting a nicer restaurant with really good Persian food, especially given the location. I didn't think anyone could ruin Persian food. I'm not Persian, yet I could make better than what they served us. The shawarma was bland. The koobideh was bland and tasted old. The chicken skewer was okay not as off-tasting as the beef. I noticed the skewers were already half-cooked and then just thrown on the grill to heat up. They tasted like they were a couple of days old. Why not cook them to order? They weren't busy at all, even on a very busy holiday weekend. The only thing that wasn't as disappointing was the iceberg lettuce "salad." Also, I'm sure rent near the beach is expensive, but c'mon hand soap is under $5. There's no excuse for soap that's basically 1% soap and 99% water. How are employees washing their hands after using the restroom? There were no paper towels or seat covers either but that hardly matters if there isn't proper hand soap to begin with. Even the paper plates were cheap. The food is terrible, and the place feels so run down like the owner or cook has lost all passion. I love this spot! Location is super close to the Newport pier and service is always quick and friendly. I like to stop here after run club for a satisfying dinner. The owner (or whomever is in all the photos around the place) is almost always there as well, which for some reason makes it feel more like home. I always order their chicken dishes here and the chicken is always so juicy and never dry. There is always plenty of space to sit and eat as well! I had kept walking by this place when I was in town, and I went back again the next day after I had it for dinner. IT IS SOO GOOD!!!! You can see them cooking the food right there!! Everything is so so fresh and prepared for order!! The owner was super friendly!! You can tell how good the food is, as the walls are lined with pictures of famous people he has catered for. The chicken kabob is so juicy and flavorful, I loved it and in the wrap! Greek salad and a nice amount of toppings! The falafel was a winner as was the baklava. We love Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food, so in a prime location like this, you expect prime quality. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience. They truly have the potential to do much better. We ordered the chicken shawarma wraps, a kids' chicken nugget meal, and the potato pita bread. The only item that was genuinely appetizing was the potato pita it was flavorful, and the sauce paired with it was excellent. The chicken shawarma wrap was very underwhelming. We've had shawarma at many restaurants, and you can usually taste the care, seasoning, and balance in every bite. This one was dull and plain, and the chicken itself just wasn't very good. The fries were also disappointing long and skinny, not crispy, and lacking flavor. The kids' chicken nuggets looked typical but had no color or flavor. They were not good at all. I asked for a refund and was initially told no. I left the plate at the counter, and a gentleman later stepped in and processed the refund, which I appreciated. The kitchen is the first thing you see when you walk in, and it could definitely be cleaner and better maintained. First impressions matter. It didn't give the feeling of pride or passion you hope to see in a place serving this kind of cuisine. I'm writing this as constructive feedback. With limited competition nearby, this restaurant has a real opportunity but right now, the food quality and presentation need improvement. We truly wish we had a better experience. read more

The owner and all of his staff were incredibly friendly and attentive...much more so than most restaurants where you order from the counter. Now this is going to sound crazy, but we actually ate there three nights in a row on our vacation! And we NEVER do that! My family (myself, husband, and kids- 13 and 10) all ate chicken and filet kabobs (incredibly flavorful and tender), hummus, shawarma, salad, roasted veggies, and roasted corn and it was all consistently so fresh and great. I asked what their most popular items are which I was pointed to the Lemon Garlic Chicken Breast Kabob and Gyro Sandwich. I was feeling a sandwich this day so I opted for the latter and omg! It was amazing and I wish I ordered a second! The veggies and sauce taste so fresh and the slices of meats were perfect and well cooked. Absolutely tasteless. I watched them pull frozen pre-cooked kabobs and heat them up - with no seasoning, super dry and devoid of flavor. The hummus is equally bland and borderline nasty. The pita bread was dry and stale. Their Mediterranean salad was iceberg lettuce with shredded carrots ( obviously pre-packaged ) the hot sauce was some Tobasco concoction that definitely did not improve the kabobs. The falafel was mushy, undercooked and literally inedible. I would not recommend and previous positive reviews are suspect and questionable read more

While visiting Newport Pier, I was craving something halal and found this place through Google. It's a cozy little shop with limited seating. The owner, who also prepares the food, was a kind and welcoming gentleman. We ordered the gyro and kebab, and both were absolutely succulent and juicy. The food was simple yet packed with flavor. The shop's walls are decorated with photos of the owner alongside various celebrities, which made the wait more enjoyable. We went there last night for dinner. My aunt and uncle are visiting & we just randomly found this place. The owner was so kind & generous. He offered us a large sample of the gyro to try because my uncle likes lamb. It was delicious. My aunt & I each ordered the combo plate with chicken & beef kabobs. It came with grilled veggies. We devoured our meals. The chicken is so juicy & the rice is well seasoned. My uncle got the fish & chips & he loved it. At the end, the owner gave us some Afghani candy as a dessert. It was very good. We saw a homeless guy walk in and ask for some soup. The owner made him a big container of rice with lots of grilled meats instead. Forte is located in Newport Beach so there's parking all around. There's a few spaces right in front which makes it convenient if you get there in good timing. We ordered the wrap falafel and wrap chicken which we enjoyed so much on one of the few tables they offer inside. The falafel was flavorful and had a nice little crunch. It was mixed with a perfect combination of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and tzatziki sauce on lavash bread The customer service was nice and our food came out fairly quickly. There's a clean restroom towards the back which requires a code. I will definitely come back again and check out their gyros and hummus. read more

After a long day at the beach, my mom and I wanted something to munch on before heading home for the day. We saw this place on Yelp with good reviews and mediterranean food sounded good. Once arriving we were alittle doubtful because the restaurant is pretty small and they only have a few parking spots. The owner took our order and was helpful with describing some items. Yet once we received the food, our entire experience changed. We noticed they make everything from scratch since the kitchen is visible from the seating area, so we knew it was at least fresh! We started off with the hummus since a few reviews mentioned it. It was delicious! It had a good citrus and garlic taste to it which i LOVED. My mom got the lemon garlic chicken plate, it comes with salad and rice. The chicken was soo juicy and flavorful! She was amazed!! I got the chicken shawarma plate with rice and a salad as well. The entire meal was amazing and yummy. We didn't expect to devour all of the food! I've been dining at forte since the location was in Ladera Ranch at least one time a week. Since they closed that location I make the drive down here because truly I have never had such good Mediterranean food. On top of that, the family that runs this business are actually the sweetest people and always make my day and my food extra special. The white sauce shown in the picture is the most amazing lemon garlic type of sauce I have ever had that I buy it by the container to pair with anything I have to eat at home. Forte Kabob is my favorite Mediterranean place and I love that it's right across from Newport Beach! The kabobs are so moist and juicy and the rice is so buttery and not dry. I also really love the garlic sauce and hot sauce on the side. You also have to try the hummus and pita bread and the zucchini sticks with ranch. So good! Its really tough finding many falafel spots that are not using "ready made/mix with water" falafel. This was the best falafel I've come across for a while now! Really tasty, not dry at all!
