Worst place I have ever been too & I won't be back. Been here quite a few times & never have I ever been feeling like that was the worst $100 I've spent at a restaurant. Walked out beyond disappointed. I ordered the carne adovada sliders, grilled bacon wrapped shrimp & New Mexico enchiladas. The sliders were very dry, grilled bacon wrapped shrimp was good but the beans that comes with it was cold & the rice was hard as a rock, crunchy, overcooked, as well as the rice on the enchiladas & beans were cold on that entree as well. Couldn't even eat any of the dishes because it was cold over cooked dry & beyond spicy. When I order I asked if red was hot the guy said it was a little spicy but that was not the case. It was unbearable to eat & I love spicy foods. When I let the guy know, his suggestion was sour cream. The cook even knew it was very spicy because it's season and typically would suggest putting it on the side. Everything came out separately. I ordered 2 items off the "happy hour" menu & the shrimp dish came and the server was like these just came out faster & then 10-15 min later the sliders came followed by the enchiladas which was about 10 min after the sliders. Service was not that great & for what you get the food is overpriced If I could I would give this place zero stars. read more

People what are you thinking with the high ratings here? This hole in the wall has very limited space on the bar side and we waited at least 45 minutes for a table. Once seated at a table I felt I was going to fall on my ass BC of the wobbly stool. The place is super dark so you can barely read the menus or see what your eating. I ordered the New Mexican platter at $16.00 - tamale, chicken burro enchilada, chili relleno, rice and beans. The chile relleno was so tough I couldn't even cut it with a knife. I had the waitress take it back and the cook said that's the way they are! My tamale was mostly corn and I've had better at Costco's free samples on weekends and the chicken burro was dry. For the money they charge here i thought my dish was overpriced and lacked taste & quality. With all the authentic Mexican Restaurants in Phoenix I would suggest going elsewhere for comfort and taste. The best thing here was the Stella on tap - ice cold! The service here was good but I felt sorry for the waiters and waitresses BC I saw at least 3 party's leave BC they didn't want to wait. What can I say that most should already know. This is THE place in Phoenix. Our favorite also the other restaurant Richardson's they are incredible. You have to have anything with the New Mexico chili red or green. I get both. The pasta Heidi the pasta is flown in from New Mexico each week , incredible. Well this is our second time at dicks hideaway. We had a totally different experience then before. We sat at the bar. The place was packed with one hour wait for seating. A few spots opened up next to us at the bar and two woman took three seats , saving one for somebody. We watched person after person ask if they could sit their , but this girl said it was saved. After 45 minutes I thought this was so rude. When another person asked to be seated and was told no , I explained to this woman that these girls have ordered drinks and their lunch and that after 45 minutes you should be allowed to sit if you want. Then the tall manager got in my face yelling at me ??? Telling me to mind my own business and just turn around. I was shocked. Never have I been treated like that from a manager. I just told him to not yell at me that I wasn't even talking to these rude girls telling people they can't use the seat. So now to the food. My wife ordered the chicken with veggie and stuff Chile. It was super good. I ordered the same thing as last I ate here. The pork adovada with rice and beans. The meat didn't taste the same or the rice and the rice was under cooked. So I'm guessing with all the cooks they don't have any consistency with the food. I'm not ruling this place out because of rude people and unprofessional managers with anger issues. I'll try one more time and see what happens. I did return my order and got the steak and eggs. And that dish was very good. read more

Ugh I'm so sad to write this review because I've always loved this place! My experience today was less than impressive. Our servers name was Jemel, who apparently has worked there for 2.5 years according to her, but you would never know it. We waited 15 minutes before being greeted by Jemel and everything went downhill from there. I asked if I could sub my corn tortillas for flour in the enchiladas, a simple "they are are premade so we can't change them" would have sufficed. Instead she said, "We are a very busy restaurant, they are already made and we would never make a substitution like that". I ordered my eggs over hard and they came out completely brown. When I asked if I could change them to over medium, she said "Well we're going to charge you for that." See attached photo- I don't think anyone would eat those eggs. After that she didn't come back to check on us, just brought the check and walked away. The worst part is that we brought someone who had never been to Dick's and told her how amazing it was and how much she would love it. Instead, this was the experience she had... I don't think she'll be returning. Also- the website says they have happy hour "EVERYDAY, Drinks: Open to 6pm" and mimosas are $6 (see attached photos) and we were charged $10. I would suggest that management 1- look into Jemel's service history with their restaurant and 2- make updates to the menu if you don't offer happy hour everyday Open-6pm. read more

We have been here a number of times, every time it's wonderful, this last time we went was exceptional. The dish was a green chili linguini, with chicken, and a chipotle cream sauce. I can not describe how wonderful it was. Easy part of the dish was delicious and, together truly wonderful. We ate till we hurt, service was wonderful, the people serving cared about how we were doing. We sat at the bar where we watched our food being made, loved each other's company, smiled through the whole evening. If you like New Mexican food with an emphasis on chili's I am not sure you can find a better place in phoenix! read more

It was a special occasion, my FIL's birthday and though the traditional wasn't present, this was its own unique type of special experience. This gem of a restaurant serves top-notch New Mexican-style cuisine and I don't put that lightly. Every single bite was a 10/10. I ordered the Carne adovada Benedict with smoked pork that's been long-simmered in a deeply earthy red carne adovada. Hash browns extra crispy and beans. All swimming in red sauce, delicious! Chicken, tasty, beef good, shrimp over grilled, tough and rubbery. Beans and rice, fine. For the meal, had the rellenos and eggs, Terry the tamales and eggs. We traded off , to sample everything. Rellenos, large, plenty of meat inside, tasty and filling. Tamales, same. Pretty good. Hashbrowns were really good, lots of crunch. Ordered eggs over easy, they were a bit overdone to medium. Salsas very good, heat level appropriate. Service very nice and attentive all through the meal. Not crowded for this Tuesday lunch, took our time. No rushing. Finally had leftovers boxed to go. Enough left for dinner and breakfast! So... Comfortable, cool atmosphere, good service, pretty good food. Great place to enjoy a 69 th birthday, with a good old friend. I have been coming to Dick's for the best weekend brunches since 1998!!! Yes folks, it's true. My go to is their Enchiladas and Eggs combo. Simply the best New Mexican enchiladas ever in the state of Arizona. Aside from their food, their bloody mary's are top notch. Dick's Hideaway is a true diamond in the rough. Open the door and you'll go: "Huhhh....whaaaaaaaaa?" But, if you have looked at the menus posted outside, you'll be more than a bit inquisitive and push on into the bar. From there on, you're on your own, save for one thing: the Carne Adovada will imprint itself onto your Soul. While I love Los Dos Molinos (Mesa) Adovada Ribs, Dick's Carne Adovada & Eggs places a very close second - and if doing breakfast, it comes in first. For dinner, try the Relleno Platter or the Osso Bucco.... oh, the heck with it... TRY ANYTHING ON THE MENU. It is some of the best food in the entire Valley, staffed by a stellar group of humans. Dick's is definitely a hideaway... you hardly notice it when driving by. Luci's Marketplace is 2 or 3 doors down from Dick's. That's the only way I can find it. Anyway, I always sit at the bar and get great service. It's nice and warm in the winter because of the grills going behind the bar. Their wine options are plentiful and of good quality. The food... I usually get the ribs, but if I go with someone, we order several items and share. Of all the Richardson's restaurants, this is my favorite. It feels cozier and more rustic than the others. It's the only one of them I will go to by myself. read more
