Amazing little bakery, got a couple conchas and the pink cake and everything was absolutely delicious. The staff were kind and seemed efficient; there was a bit of a line and they brought out shot size glasses of tea. The options are limited. I tried the cornflour alfajor, papa ranchera & cheese empanada, and mesquite pecan polvoron. I liked the empanada (the green sauce was very spicy!). I wasn't a fan of the alfajor or polvoron; they were dry and hard to eat without a drink as well. I also tried a chocolate drink/infusion. I think it was one with the flower flavor. It was ok and I liked it better than the pastries. I don't think this place is alone in this, especially in Austin, but I do think they were too expensive for what they are. The owner has addressed this directly and acknowledged the higher cost. It does price it out of my bracket for regular consumption. And, that's not a them problem that's a me thing. read more

Been meaning to visit Comadre for a long time and I'm so happy for Mariela and the crew for their thriving panadería. Despite east Austin continually changing, it is great to have a local community panadería serving up freshly baked pan y pasteles para la gente. Oh. My. Goodness. This place is AMAZING!! I'm so thankful I glanced at the James Beard nominee list before this trip and added this place to my list, because it was AMAZING!!! I pre-ordered for Sunday pickup since I wasn't sure what the wait would be like, but around 10am there were only 5 people in front of me (there is also a small parking lot and plenty of street parking)! The storefront is so cute and the employees are so friendly!! This was literally the best concha I've ever had in my entire life - the flavor and texture of the dough was perfection and the chocolate components were the perfect amount of sweetness! This will be what I dream of and the new bar for conchas! My other treats were also amazing - I LOVED the flavor of the mole with butternut squash in the special croissant (I think it had a great balance for the pastry, but I could eat a bowlful of just the mole sauce/would've paid extra for a side of it)! Finally, the seemingly fan favorite pink cake was also delicious - the sweetness of the corn and the creaminess of the frosting complimented each other perfectly and it wasn't overly sweet! Overall, this place is amazing, SO worth the hype, and will be my first stop next time I make it down to Austin! We came on what had been a busy day, so I guess they were sold out of a few items. They had 3 things left, one being their "pink cake". Looking at it, it wasn't something I would typically just pick out. However, they mentioned it was a top-seller and a favorite, so we gave it a try. Man am I happy we did! We ended up taking 1 of each of those remaining items. My husband and I sincerely enjoyed all 3 items. We had heard about the place because of the attention they received from James Beard so we knew it was likely to be great, but it was still such a nice surprise with how delicious each thing was. I think this spot is somewhere you go if you are looking for something unique...a place that honors tradition & culture & pays attention to all the right things. If you are looking for chocolate chip cookies, brownies & cupcakes, this may not be the place for you. To describe all 3 items the best I can, I will say this: The texture on all 3 items were different than anything I would have expected...& I am so happy they were! The texture of the cake was almost like a tres leches meets cornbread. I love that it had icing but nothing was too sweet. It was balanced so perfectly. Honestly, all 3 items were phenomenal for different reasons & we would highly recommend them all. Kind of hoping we can do another visit before heading out of town! Divine! Artisan pan Dulce made with the highest quality ingredients. I'm in heaven every time we go here! The service is great and they have expanded the availability so much since their pop-up days. They recently started offering custom cake orders so we're getting two small bride and groom cakes to cut at our wedding I'm so excited! This is one of my tip top places to spoil my friends and out of town guests. It's impossible to pick a must try recommendation because offerings change each week and we have loved everything! They recently moved things around inside and now have a few barstools at the counter where you can sip their lovely coffees. That cafe de olla is incredible! Also the hijita cacao drinks are musts! We had the classic chocolate concha, sourdough Choco chip, horchata polvoron, potett strawberry cake, lemon chia galleta, yaupon Jamaica concha, pecan sticker bun and pinguino. This is Austin's hipster version of a Mexican bakery. You can get Trays filled of baked goods that taste similar, if not better than this place at plenty other Mexican bakeries in Austin. I stumbled upon this delicious bakery on a Sunday. They only had three selections left so I got one of each: pink cake, a corn, sugar, cookie was cinnamon, and a salted chocolate chip cookie. All three were fantastic. The sugar cookie was almost like a Mexican snickerdoodle. Both cookies were made with masa and neither were too sweet. The cake was a real surprise. Moyston again not too sweet. I would highly recommend placing your order on Wednesday and picking it up on the weekend. They're only open on the weekend. I lucked out! read more
