I dropped by on my first day in Austin. I've never been to Austin before, but they were located really close to my hotel when I got hungry for breakfast. They had a few people come in to grab quick bites and pick up mobile orders. I ordered for takeaway and ate my food at my hotel. They got my order out quickly, so I didn't wait very long. I got a smoked turkey sandwich, an iced sweet tea and a cherry Danish. Everything was actually quite delicious. I've been going to Swedish hill for years but the location in Clarkesville has gone super downhill. I went this morning with friends and we ordered two ham and Gruyère croissants, a side of scrambled eggs, a breakfast sandwich, and a sandwich with turkey onion eggs and cheddar. We got it to go and they said yep everything's in there. Guess what we got..... no croissants whatsoever, just a side of scrambled eggs and the sandwiches were just eggs between bread. WTF?! I believe I've seen the South 1st location be hyped on social media, but this location was more centrally located between where we were leaving from (Rowing Dock) & the next activity (LBJ Library). I wouldn't say this place is "bad", but it also isn't stand out. Just a cute lil bakery/coffee shop. I bet a great spot for those who live/work nearby for a quick weekday lunch bite. The line was busy throughout our visit but never reached out the door. It's tricky because everyone likes to wait for their orders in the area where the indoor bar seating is, even if they don't stay there. We made it work! My cold brew was good, as was the pesto chicken salad sandwich I got. Even though it was white bread, it felt refreshing & healthy & not soggy. I caught my eye on the sprinkledoodle cookie - love sprinkles but doodles less so. We also got lucky with street parking but can see how it's a hassle with the construction project going on. It's not bad. We went for lunch on a weekend and there was no wait and table for us outside. I thought our tab was absolutely ridiculous with two lunch and two coffee costing us $80. This has been the first Swedish Hill experience and I really wanted to check out this location because it looked super cute!! The place is very dreamy. It has been decorated beautifully. The parking could be tough, but sometimes you might get lucky with their parking or on the street. I've tried the ginger lemonade, the chai latte, and ginger noodles (on the salad display). All of them have been delicious!! I also did order a side of sourdough, but for the price and what you get, I don't think it's worth ordering. Ordering is quick and the the orders come out pretty quickly. It has an overall great vibe to it. Perfect for an afternoon hangout with friend(s). I would def give it a try. read more

Swedish Hill has multiple locations around the city for you to experience a nice lunch, work-from-home day, or just a meet-up with friends. They serve typical cafe food, tons of pastries, pasta, sandwiches, and salad so it's a good lunch option. I typically stop in to get one of their packaged meals to go -- the chicken salad with a bag of chips is my favorite thing to get. Staff always does their best to keep the line moving, so when they notice me with food in my hand already they just come check me out. I've only been to the West 6th and S 1st locations, each of these locations doesn't have the best parking. West 6th parking is HORRIBLE and S 1st is a step above. If you live or work nearby you definitely want to walk or maybe hitch a scooter. The West 6th location is very small and only offers a few tables outside. The S 1st location is my favorite. I think of swedish hill as a bakery, but they actually make a pretty good Italian sandwich! Probably the best sourdough in Austin (maybe Mum is better, but this was very solid) and a good helping of Italian meats and a spread of some sort (maybe olive tapenade). Add some lettuce, onion, tomato and this Italian sandwich I think deserves its place among the best in Austin. I will qualify by saying I haven't had an Italian sandwich that I really LOVE, but this one is worth it if you're in the neighborhood. My one gripe: the cheese was cut too thick; I'd prefer 1-2 really thin slices, just adding flavor, but leaving the texture to everything else in the sandwich. I arrived during construction, I think, so the interior is much smaller than what I think their more permanent location will be, so I suggest going around the corner towards the neighboring wine bar. There are a handful of tables & chairs in a little parklet (think "a parking spot that has a few tables/chairs in it" ). It's actually a decent people watching spot around 4-5pm as groups trickle into the wine bar. read more

First of all parking is horrible so if you don't live in area or are walking around getting there is tough. I ordered the smoked chicken sandwich. The sourdough is soft and really good, the dijon mustard is so strong I could feel it up my nostrils and had to take the bread off which was a waste. For $16 I've had a better sandwich and probably would not get this again. The pesto pasta salad was really good and this is something I would go back for. The iced matcha latte was okay, I ordered an iced lavender oat. I had a recommendation to go since I have been looking for the best Matcha in Austin and this has not been the best. Matcha flavor is good and subtle but there was no lavender flavor. Overall ok, line was quick and food came out at a decent time. Good thing the West Lake location is opening soon. I like their pastries a lot and the only thing aside coffee I get there: Kouign Amann, almond croissant, plain croissant, nutella buns are all solid. I want to try their baguette and breads one day. First time checking out Swedish Hill, and the flaky pastries were our favorites! I'm a sucker for anything cherry, and the tart cherry cream cheese danish, ham and cheese, kouign amann, and Nutella bun, almond croissant were amazing. We took a chance on the macarons (cranberry orange, gingerbread, and eggnog) but I'd probably skip them next time. As macarons go, they're not as sweet as others, which I appreciate, but the texture was a bit too crisp, not as much chew as I'd expect from a macaron. The coffee is nice and strong and doesn't feel watered down, I got the iced Swedish coffee (coconut cream and oat milk) and my mom got a hot almond milk latte with lavender. Both were delicious. A few things that would add - seating - only a bar with 4 stools inside. outside a few small tables but on a rainy day will still get wet. However the food and drinks make up for that. In fact, their breakfast, lunch or a snack food totally makes up for that inconvenience. The pastries are some of the best i've seen in Austin. and don't miss the ginger cookie. There is a lot of construction nearby, so parking is a challenge, and it was extra concerning for us because I just had knee surgery and there was no handicapped parking we could see. I've been wanting to come here for a while, but I don't think I'll be in a hurry to be back, here's why: Parking: they do have a relatively large parking lot in the back/side compared to other Downtown ATX establishments, but it can definitely be hard to turn into when in busy, fast traffic. There is also some street parking, but the spots on the way to Swedish Hill require you to park back end close to the sidewalk...um, not very convenient when you are again driving down a super busy street which is unfortunately where Swedish Hill is located. Food and Price: I wish there were more sandwich/lunch options for vegetarians, or at least, an option to make an entree plate from the deli options. I had to order a cup of egg salad and a kale salad bowl individually and altogether that cost $18. Um, what? My boyfriend got a sandwich and drink, and we each got one dessert (one macaroon and one lemon blueberry cake) and altogether our food was $60...again, what? For lunch? The egg salad was good, but I feel like a scoop atop my salad would have sufficed...I didn't really need a whole cup... At least my blue-colored macaroon tasted fresh and was delicious (vanilla flavored). Service: It was obviously very packed on a Saturday afternoon, and I could tell everyone working wanted to be home, but it was almost like some individuals were angry? I ended up waiting 15 minutes to use one of three restrooms in the establishment because an employee was lounging in there for what I assumed was her work break. She came out with such a grouchy face, angry with the world...I get it, the service industry is challenging and customers can be demanding and ridiculous...but, maybe make an employee-only restroom so the customer isn't waiting and insanely long amount of time? I went to Swedish Hill for brunch with a friend and I cannot believe that it I have lived in Austin for almost 10 years and never been. They have a bakery with all the bread and pastries you can think of, a little apothecary, as well as a huge and cute dining area. Their menu has breakfast fare, soups and salads, sandwiches, bagels and toasts, fish and caviar, grazing boards, and a deli case... basically every thing you want at brunch! It was super busy and you have to order at the entrance so the lines were a bit slow but the wait was worth it. Staff were also friendly and everyone seemed to be having a good time. This review is for the new Swedish Hill location in Westlake Hills where Blue Dahlia used to be. I loved this cafe and bakery at their downtown location. I was very excited when I read that they opened in Westlake Hills, closer to my home. I decided to try them yesterday. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. Their prices are way higher than normal. For example a baguette is $8 vs. $3 at other high end places. The cafe au lait was lukewarm and weak. I waited 15 minutes to get my ham and gruyere croissant warmed up only to realize that they had forgotten about it. The service was slow and no attention to details. The decor is nice and modern but was very disappointed at the quality and the service. They need to get their act together and also review some of their prices. My friend and I were around town and stopped by this cafe. I know it's been around for a while but it was my first time having lived here for over 10 years now. The line was long on a Saturday morning. As we approached closer I enjoyed seeing the pastry displays and the large croissants. I ordered the lox board and matcha latte while my friend got a taco and almond croissant to share. I'll admit this was on the pricier side. I did really enjoy my board but I realize that you are needing to assemble and do the work yourself to make the spread. It was admittedly a little challenging; I appreciated the amount of toppings but I couldn't figure out the right ratio or order to play everything as a face up bagel. I was really surprised at the matcha latte. I opted to add in vanilla as I prefer my matchas on the sweeter side. It was delicious! Would really recommend it and it rounded out the meal. Ah this place is so cute! We had the best rotisserie chicken ever here. We got the family meal which comes with a whole rotisserie chicken, potatoes, 4 Parker rolls & a salad of your choice. The chicken was flavored perfectly, and the texture was so soft and melted in your mouth. The chimmi churri sauce it came with made it extra delicious.
