This is a wonderful spot to bring out-of-town visitors for beautiful, delicious pastries and coffee. The ambiance is lovely, and the design is thoughtfully done. I enjoyed everything we ordered and look forward to returning to try more of the menu. I'd wanted to visit since the place opened, but I wasn't willing to wait in line for an hour or more. After one failed attempt when the line was long, I finally made it on a quieter day--and it was worth the wait. The pastries all looked perfect and tempting; I wanted to try every single one. We ordered a butter croissant, a smash sausage sandwich, a cortado, and a smoked lavender cardamom latte. Here's what I thought of each: Butter croissant - 10/10. Beautiful and absolutely delicious. Crispy on the outside, airy inside, yet substantial enough to feel satisfying. Highly recommend. Smash sausage sandwich - You definitely get your money's worth with a generous amount of meat. It was a bit too salty and heavy for a morning meal, though. I'd recommend it more enthusiastically if they dialed back the salt and thickness of the sausage. Still very good overall, and the open-faced presentation is great for photos. Cortado - A little too milk-forward for my taste; I couldn't pick up the coffee as much as I'd expect in a true cortado. The latte art, however, was lovely. Smoked lavender cardamom latte - The least visually appealing item we ordered, but it tasted good and wasn't overly sweet. Enjoyable, though I'm not sure I'd order it again. One small note on the experience: I was looking at the lattes and asked the cashier for a recommendation. She suggested a syrup that didn't appear on the menu. When I mentioned I couldn't see all the available syrups, she said it was listed (without pointing it out). She then recommended the smoked lavender. It felt a bit confusing--almost as if some options were being offered one-by-one rather than clearly displayed. Employees were nice and the interior was nice. It was pretty busy around lunch so there weren't too many open seats, and it was quite loud so it wouldn't be the best place to do work. The pastries looked really good, and I got the roasted porchetta sandwich which was a bit too oily and fatty. It took a while to get my food (15-20 minutes probably) but I'm unsure if it's normal or if it was because of the lunch rush. Delicious pastries, beautiful interior, if I had more time in Austin, I would have been back to try more things. I got the ham and cheese focaccia which was yummy, pillowy bread baked with an egg inside. Their cinnamon rolls are massive, the laminations on the croissants are almost too pretty to eat. The hot new spot for a bakery in austin, and it's not hard to see why! Sugarwolf is a beautiful bakery downtown, full of natural light, plants and no laptops. Since opening, the line commonly wraps out the door on weekends, so if you want something specific come early. I arrived at 9am on a Sat and they had just sold their last almond croissant. But their other options such as the ham and egg focaccia didn't disappoint. Their matcha is very green before it's mixed with the milk, so I'd love to come back to try. Delicious but not quite worth the hype. Sugarwolf has been on my list to try since it opened. I finally got a weekend break from keto, and my husband knew it was the perfect time to take me there. We went Sunday afternoon, on July 5th. I figured they might be sold out of things, so I tempered my expectations. Fortunately when we got there they still had my favorites - croissants and one type of cookie (chocolate espresso, the last chocolate chip sold to the person before me. I couldn't choose, so got one of each. We sat to eat for a bit, and enjoy the bright modern space, but then had to continue walking to go to our next surprise (it turned out to be Beauty and the Beast at the State Theater.) The outside of the croissant was amazing, but the inside seemed surprisingly doughy. Or, maybe I shouldn't be surprised because big croissants mean the surface area that can get crispy is less in proportion to the total thing. The cookie was great, and kind of bittersweet as I expected. It was chewy in the center and crispy around the edges. However, it's maybe not as good as some that I've made. It was so rich that after I snuck it in the theater, it lasted me nibbling on it throughout the whole movie. If you're looking for a special place to stop for a treat downtown, consider Sugarwolf. If you're just looking for a tasty treat, you can probably find one just as good somewhere else for a better price and at a more convenient location. read more

Perfect timing as she arrived when it was our turn to go into Sugarwolf. First impression...modern, clean architectural lines with a modern flare. Floor to ceiling windows emit an abundance of light. The chandeliers are quite unique in that they look like Chinese lanterns yet appear to be made from a cheesecloth like material. The space is open and airy. One word...striking! The music playing in the background contributed to making this experience a whole vibe. Sugarwolf specializes in high quality pastries and coffee drinks. We both purchased cinnamon rolls (large, mutant cinnamon rolls...enough for three people). The bakery uses organic flour, butter, and a seed oil free kitchen. The flavor and texture was quite nice. My friend also got a croissant to go. She purchased a hot smoked raspberry latte with matcha and I purchased an iced smoked raspberry latte. Both were exceptionally prepared. Watching the bakers work with customer views of the kitchen was an appealing part of the culinary experience. Everyone in the shop was super friendly and helpful. SUGAR WOLF!! Wow! You hit it out the park! The space is so beautiful, spacious and warm! Soft lighting and plenty of seating options! I was anticipating grand opening today and it did not disappoint. Their hours are from 7am-4p which perfect for early risers who don't like paying for parking. I got here around 7:12am there was a line. Thankfully it moved pretty quickly! The gentlemen taking my order was very kind and personable. He recommended the Pain Sussie. I went with the cinnamon roll and Pain Sussie! I also got a SMOKED RASPBERRY LATTE! Who's ever heard of such a drink?!? It even tasted magical. It had a nice balance of raspberry and the matcha was high grade. Tldr: get there before 10:30 am for pastries, amazing chocolate chip cookie, no vegetarian lunch options, sour service. Came in on a Saturday at 11:30 am and there was a line past the entrance to the parking garage. One of the staff members came out and let us know all pastries were sold out, so if you have your heart set on pastries go prior to 10:30 am at least! Austin though has so many great pastries spots nearby (Matok, Swedish Hill, Rockman), so don't be disappointed if you miss the pastries. They however did have plenty of chocolate chip cookies (I did not see any other flavor) available as well as a coffee crumb muffin when we got to the front of line by 12:20 pm. The chocolate chip cookie was amazing - brown butter like, chewy with crispy edges and chocolate in every bite. The salt on top helped balance out the cookie to not make it overly sweet. Where I was most disappointed though was the service and lack of just one vegetarian option for lunch menu and the check out staff looking bored and unwilling to help/check to see if any accommodations could be made especially after waiting in line as we did. The person I had in check out line was a fairly young Asian lady and she looked like she couldn't be bothered to help and when I asked questions all I got was bored disinterested one word answer. She definitely didn't show Texas hospitality. Even options I thought could possibly be vegetarian such as herbed orchiette pasta salad had meat (and mind you I said I was vegetarian before placing the order and just was about to check out when my husband asked if there was any other vegetarian option she said no and then told us "oh the pasta salad isn't vegetarian". Girl why did you have me place the order then?!). I even tried to ask if maybe could do like the salmon sandwich with salmon on the side so my husband could eat it and all I got was an eye roll and "oh we sold out of that" and no offer of any alternative. I understand not every place needs a vegetarian option, but come on I have been to steak houses and barbecue places with vegetarian options. And you are in Austin, place known for having many vegetarians and vegans as well as a bakery so to not just have one vegetarian sandwich was disappointing. Cool bakery in the middle of downtown Austin. A short line went outside the store at 12pm on a Friday but it moved pretty quickly. They don't make anymore pastries after 11am so I was only able to grab a couple chocolate chip cookies. If you like underbaked cookies then you'll love these. Not my type of cookie so I can't say I liked them very much. The dirty latte was what you expect from a milk and soda combo. The dirty chai latte tasted watered down but the staff were kind about getting it swapped with a hibiscus tea. If I could say one thing based on what I got it would be to skip the baked good and drinks and go straight to just ordering the lunch sandwiches. The pastrami and French drip were the stars of the lunch order. The bread was sooo good and they don't skimp out on the meat. I got a burnt ends focaccia, oatmeal cream pie and a porchetta sandwich. The burnt ends focaccia was good the bread was excellent, the topping I expected a bit more of a smoky flavor. The tomato topping overpowered the burnt ends flavor. The porchetta was a good sandwich's again the bread is excellent, the pork was a bit underwhelming it felt on the blander side. Well short story, it absolutely lives up the expectations and then some. The pastries are enormous. Incredibly rich and CRUNCHY. There are no notes when it comes to food. I came two days after their grand opening around 9:15 AM, and there was a short line. There is a guy stationed at the front handing you a menu to look over while you wait and thanking you for coming, which is a nice touch. For being so new, they already have a great system for line management and flow. The staff were all nice and professional as well. If you ordered a drink, you pick it up at the end of the bar. French Onion Danish ($8): Fire. Such a yummy savory pastry and it doesn't taste heavy at all. Super flaky. Monkey Bread ($6): Delicious! Some bites are sweeter than others which keeps it interesting. The only thing was that one of the pieces was hanging off so the presentation wasn't as dialed in as the other pastries. Smokey Raspberry Latte ($8): You can choose between espresso and matcha so I went with espresso. I forgot to ask for oat milk so it came with whole milk. I like my coffee strong and though the latte was pretty milky so this one didn't really hit the mark for me. The smokey raspberry flavor was very subtle too and okay. Black Sesame Matcha ($8): This one comes with oat milk as the default which I love. The matcha flavor is subtle but it has a nice green color. Make sure to mix it well before drinking because the first few sips taste mostly like sweetener. After mixing it a few times the black sesame came through, though it was also pretty light. I was excited to see a seed oil free bakery opening in Central Austin. My little one has a soy allergy and unfortunately, far too many bakeries use margarine or soy-based oils to cook and bake. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people there on a random weekday, so if you're with a large group, I would plan ahead and prepare to wait. When we arrived to order several things (juices, some pastries) were out of stock for the day, so I would also plan on being there before lunch if you want to grab a cold pressed juice or some of their popular pastries. Overall, the space is large and you can tell they put a lot of thought into curating art and decor to make it feel comfortable. As for the pastries, I had a muffin and a cookie. They were good, but I choose to order the offer cake muffin over the cookie next time as the coffee cake muffin was large, filling and perfectly sweetened. Prices are a big on the higher end for a bakery, but it is a nicer bakery located downtown so I wasn't shocked and expected prices to be elevated. While the food remains great I am very disappointed about the laptop ban. I spent $50 on food and drinks opened my laptop and was told I wasn't allowed to work on my laptop. I wasn't taking a meeting and talking loud or anything. You're a bakery with good coffee and plentiful seating open during business hours in downtown surrounded by offices and residents who work from home, not a high end steakhouse with evening hours. You're only hurting yourself and alienating a prime cliental. I could understand a screens down hour during lunch rush or a dedicated laptop section or something, but no laptops in general at a bakery/coffee shop during business hours comes off as pretentious and controlling. BRING BACK CONOR SMITH. For context I had a chocolate cookie from Sugar Wolf when it had newly opened, and I thought it was the best cookie in Austin. I've had all the other ones from Tiffs to Tiny's to Wolf and Wheat to Thoroughbread. My Fiance grabbed me another one a few days ago, and asked me how it was. I said "this is not the same cookie. The perfect, crispy texture and beautifully balanced recipe was completely lost. I thought it was just a bad batch, but then I heard some rumors the head pastry chef being let go for refusing to compromise on quality so Sugarwolf could make more profit. I know profit is tough, but shame on y'all. I give them 3 more months before they close, and hope it was an honest mistake they learn from. read more

Sugarwolf is absolutely worth the hype! We went on a Saturday around 11am and there was a line, but we only waited about 20 minutes. If you're hoping to try the pastries, I'd definitely recommend getting there earlier. By the time we ordered, most of them were already sold out. We had the chocolate croissant and the everything danish, and both were incredible. The pastry was buttery and flaky and the fillings were so flavorful. We also tried the honey maple turkey and smoked pastrami sandwiches, and both were fantastic. The bone bread they use is soft and moist and really makes the sandwiches. The iced latte was also good - it was smooth and light. It's super cute inside and it's a pretty big space so it wasn't too hard to find seating. This is easily one of my favorite bakeries in Austin now, and I'll definitely be back to work my way through the rest of the pastries. read more

Tried Sugarwolf Bakery in Austin and it did not disappoint. Got the black sesame matcha and a cookie. Both were really good, the matcha wasn't too sweet and had a nice black sesame flavor, and the cookie was solid. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

We came during a weekday close to their closing time (4 pm) so there was no line and no wait. But that also means they're out of basically all the pastries. Come early for those! With that being said, we were still able to try their brown sugar cookie, which was warm and very delicious! It has some salt flakes that enhanced the flavor and didn't make it taste salty at all! AMAZING BAKERY. I'm so glad Austin has such an incredible establishment like Sugarwolf because it truly feels like a big city when there are such talented bakers, chefs, and food professionals who have all gathered. Service is amazing, and everyone is so attentive. Branding is on point, and their pastries are to die for. My friends and I also got lattes, and we really enjoyed them. I can't wait to come back and try all of their pastries because this time around, I got 5-6 pastries and thought everything was incredibly well made. This is a gem in Austin for sure. read more
