Ciccio Bomba has set a new standard for baked goods in my life. I had one of the most delicious pastries in my life this weekend: the cardamom sugar bun. Absolutely perfect levels of flakiness, sweetness and richness. The other items we had from there were incredible, as well, and at this point I'm excited to visit again and try more! This spot is a very welcome addition to downtown Austin. Pro tip: pair any of their pastries with a coffee from the Desnudo truck right outside and you've got an immaculate combo.

The chocolate croissant is old and dry and cold. The chocolate didn't even melt inside. I was excited because the line was long, but this is disappointing.

I love the green soft chairs, the tables, and the chef statue greeting you as you pull in front of the building. He's right there in the window. The bistro honestly takes your breath away. I love it! So in the last two weeks, I've been back exactly four times. My first introduction was the Croissant Scramble with chicken and veggies inside, with the Arnold Palmer. My friend got the Croissant Scramble with brisket. The presentation of the croissants when brought to the table blew me away. It was wrapped up in the cutest paper with the ends twisted. The topic of conversation was how good the croissants were. Before we left, we ordered some delicious cookies. The chocolate chips were yummy. So I went the following day and grabbed some pastries! One in particular was the Pecan Bar. The following week, another friend and I stopped in for the Chicken Pesto Omelet. I like that the fire-roasted bell peppers and onions are cooked, if that's the right word. But l have to tell you, the Mexican Hot Chocolate drink brings on the flavor, as does the ice-cold Mocha. Of course, we got the Pecan Bar for dessert. So yes, I went back yesterday for the Almond Croissant. I know, I know!

When I arrived, I was told the cake wasn't ready and was asked if I could come back the next morning--which obviously didn't work given the timing of the event. As a substitute, they offered me a pre-made cake from their display case and assured me it was chocolate like I originally ordered, just with a chocolate mousse filling. They refunded me $15 to account for the difference, and I felt pressured to accept since I needed something for the dinner that night. Unfortunately, the situation got worse from there. When we cut into the cake, it turned out to be confetti--not chocolate. Then, when we tried to eat it, it was clearly stale, dry, and inedible. No one touched it after the first bites. It completely missed the mark for what was supposed to be a special moment. What's especially frustrating is that I ordered from them last year for the same occasion, and everything went perfectly--that's why I trusted them again. This time, however, it was a complete letdown from start to finish. When I called the next day to request a refund, I asked to speak with a manager but was told that wasn't possible. Instead, I was told I would only be offered a partial refund because I accepted the replacement cake. I understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability and quality here was really disappointing--especially for something as important as a birthday celebration.

She was totally on top of us I had the lobster pasta and friend had the ahi tacos. They did not skimp on portions. The tacos were so full of tuna it has hard to keep it all inside the shell! The sauce was not over powering yet very tasty for sure. And the lobster meat. Not sprinkled in like other places. Absolutely not! There was a hefty amount of lobster for sure! They did not hold back. This would be good for a girls night out or a very nice dinner date place. They offer a full bar and also a coffee place with pastries and other baked goods. They seem to be connected to a hotel. The restrooms were up a few flights of stairs or you can use the elevator to the 2nd floor. I didn't know that. The upstairs portion could be rented out for special occasions or events. Our server was super friendly and helpful. She recommended a couple of her favorite smoothies. I ordered the Sweet Corn Cake Benedict: poached eggs, jalapeño cheddar corn cakes, avocado, tomato & corn salsa (4/5). I liked and enjoyed my breakfast, which was fresh and light. Berry Basil Smoothie: blueberry, strawberry, basil, banana, agave, pomegranate, coconut water, lime juice (4/5). This was very delicious. My coworkers order the Everything Sandwich: everything cream cheese, peppered bacon, baby kale, roasted roma tomatoes (4/5). Flavorful, with a light freshness of all the ingredients. My other coworker ordered a side of Breakfast Potatoes & a Detox Juice: acai, pomegranate, coconut water, lime. Both really liked the breakfast potatoes, which had a crisp exterior crunch yet soft and creamy inside. Come check them out. Support your local business.

Definitely one of those places that keeps you thinking about the cookie long after you leave. Everything else in the bakery also looks amazing, but the cookies are absolutely the star of the show. One important thing to note for first-time visitors: be very careful with parking. The lot next door apparently boots cars almost immediately if they see you park there and walk toward the bakery. It's not the bakery's fault, but it's definitely something customers should be aware of before visiting. Parking headache aside, this place is 100% worth the trip.

Wow, that was a bold claim! I finally got the opportunity to try ThoroughBread cookies and they were quite yummy. These cookies are like no other cookies I have eaten. I got the chocolate chip cookies with pecans. They had the texture of gingerbread cookies and were huge. They were gooey in the middle, perfectly crisp on the outside, and rich without being eye-squinting sweet. The chocolate chip cookies had welcoming textures and flavors. In addition, my server was kind and patient as I made my selection. You could taste the quality of ingredients, and each mouthful was progressively delicious. Definitely try Thoroughbread cookies for yourself. You're in for a treat.

Would recommend getting here before 9 am if you're looking to grab something specific. Service is a tad slow, but the line moves pretty steadily. In terms of overall space, there's a connected lot with a decent amount of parking spots available which is great. There's also benches/stools outside so you can enjoy your treats while they're fresh. Pink Cake ($7, 4.5/5) - I liked how the "cake" base itself is more hearty (with corn as the main ingredient) - The buttercream is a very pretty pink, which matches the overall aesthetic of Comadre. It's a tad sweet, but works overall. Empanadas ($7 each, 5/5) - Great savory option! The filling consists of stewed chickpeas, poblano chilies, cheddar cheese. - Comes with a side of tomatillo sauce which adds some nice tang. Overall, really enjoyed our experience! I had just recently watched an Austin PBS episode that featured Comadre - would recommend checking the video out as it highlights a lot of the thought/consideration that goes into this business! About a week ago I listen to the chef/owner on the "she's my cherry pie " podcast and her passion and dedication to honoring her heritage and paying an affordable wage while being passionate about quality is impressive. $7.50 may be steep for a pastry but knowing the quality and effort that she puts into every item while paying affordable wages makes it understandable. Anyway, This time it was a must visit on a quick over night trip. I ended up not making it in till around 1230-1 so most stuff was gone but they had the seasonal strawberry sunflower seed concha which was what I wanted anyway. The Concha had a nice crispy outside with a soft airy inside, the jam wasn't too sweet and there was just enough sunflower to kiss your palate to let you know it was there. I would have loved to try other items but what I did try was top notch. Hope to make it by again for more tasty treats soon.
