I adore this cafe, it's one of my favorites in austin. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Their strawberry matcha and signature ham sandwich is typically my go to. Today i tried their earl grey matcha and banana nutella cookie-- both were amazing. Service is friendly and the ambiance is perfect for catching up with a friend or getting some work done. We were a bit skeptical when we heard about ThoroughFare opening in Mueller because ThoroughBread is one of our favorite places in town (see: 5-star reviews) and is such a gem that we couldn't imagine the corporate behemoth that this place would inevitably be. We've been twice now and we have plenty of good things to say, but we also have a few gripes that are really more just opportunities for improvement. First of all, the space itself is great. They made way better use of the Halcyon space, and classed it up as well. The staff were all very friendly, clearly on top of things, and there seemed to be an overall good flow. We appreciated seeing staff cleaning countertops and surfaces as well (instead of lolling around on their phones). Such a lost art--kudos! Iced coffees are the hipster norm. The food is pretty good, but there were a few things we didn't care for. First of all, our chocolate chip cookie was way too crispy. We know these cookies intimately, and this one was beyond overdone. For the kale and mushroom salad, you need to either ask the customer if they want the salad dressed or just dress the salad if it's dine-in--because the dressing was so viscous that it was impossible to spread over the leaves. But A+++ on the thin kale chiffonading! So appreciated. Our kiddo's grilled cheese was fine, but we also got the "ham and cheese" ("AND CHEESE", per the menu) sandwich, and kept poking around the thing only to realize that it's basically chunks of cheese in a spread, which OK, it was delicious, but why make it confusing? Another thing: nobody can hear their names being called in there. Anyway, minor issues aside, we like this place and at least the specialness of ThoroughBread is still there despite our concern that these folks were going to lose their soul to Big Mueller Money. But well done, all things considered, and hopefully we can give five stars next time we're back. 3.5 stars, rounding up. We'll be munching on our sourdough loaf until then. read more

Service is just oh so kind and friendly. Strawberry Iced Matcha - we got it half sweet and it was the perfect sweetness level for us. Comes with oat milk. Tasty. Would like to taste the matcha just a little more but 3/3 people in our party ordered it and loved it. Including me. Isn't chalky either. Hot Latte with Honey: delicious. Also ordered half sweet which was perfect for me. Avocado toast: least favorite thing I ordered here. A bit heavy handed on the citrus. Wouldn't order again. Chocolate chip pecan cookie: amazing and not so overtly rich you couldn't finish it. Perfect to share. Banana Nutella cookie: The biggest standout. Just freaking delectable. Essentially, Banana bread cookie + Nutella in the middle. Just so good. Overall would come back here for the coffee, matcha, and cookies. read more

I work in the Mueller area, so I was excited when ThoroughFare opened nearby. As an extension of their sister bakery ThoroughBread, they've expanded beyond fresh bread to offer coffee, wine and beer, grab-and-go items, plus a curated selection of books and cookware. The space is bright, airy and inviting with cozy indoor seating and plenty of shaded patio seating outside. On this visit, I picked up a whole wheat sourdough loaf and a vanilla cold brew to go. Their menu also features matcha, smoothies, juices, sandwiches, soups and salads, making it a great breakfast or lunch spot. The cashier recommended the Turkey Harvest sandwich and the PB&J cookie as her favorite menu items. I ended up giving the cookie a try and I'm so glad I did as it was rich, indulgent and packed with flavor. The whole wheat sourdough was equally impressive, with a hearty texture and a crunchy seed topping that added great flavor. It made excellent toast and even better sandwiches. I also love that they'll slice your loaf exactly how you like it, whether you prefer thin or thick slices. Overall, ThoroughFare is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood and I can already tell it's going to become one of my regular breakfast and lunch spots. read more

I finally got to try Thoroughfare this weekend while meeting a friend next door at Thinkery! I got there a little early and had time to grab a cookie before my friend and her son arrived. They had a whole selection of flavors, so I decided to take a risk and try the most unique one - banana nutella. The cookies are huge and kind of cakey. My cookie almost tasted like a dense banana bread. It was pretty fresh out of the oven, so the nutella was still runny. After only a few bites, I cleaned up and got ready to see my friend, and save the rest of the cookie for later. With the nutella inside, it was the kind of cookie that needed cleaning up afterwards! Fast forward a little bit and her son got overwhelmed at the Thinkery, and we came back to Thoroughfare to calm down. Due to his autism, he's a picky eater - picky enough that my friend didn't even know how he'd handle a chocolate chip cookie. However, as you most of us might predict, it's hard to dislike this kind of chocolate chip cookie! He ate more than half of it, which is a lot for a boy his size! I prefer denser chewier cookies, so these don't get 5 stars, but they were a real treat and I'm glad I tried them! read more

Please, I think about this place all the time. This is just the cutest spot for random items, groceries, coffee, and pastries! The workers are SO incredibly kind! There are outlets to study if needed. It is not a loud place, just casual coffee shop noise level. We had to try their chocolate chip and pb&j cookies, DIVINE. Cute, healthy grocery store and cafe. They sell lots of "clean" food products and have ready to eat meals available as well. The lemon espresso was a little odd. It tasted like a half latte/half sparkling water. The avocado toast on sourdough was really yummy. I would have preferred the option to add eggs (not available) but I was able to add some chicken. I also would have liked the chicken and farro salad prepared warmed up but they were served chilled. The avocado toast, side of chicken and farro salad was ~$16 so this meal was also on the pricey side. The employees were all super nice and chatty! read more

A much better use of the space than Halcyon IMO. Overall, I thought it was great - the cookies are obviously their highlight. I would revisit! Best to go earlier in the day when they open. QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Yes, free street parking before 10am on weekdays and the parking lot near the park. Paid garages available as well. FOOD & DRINK RATINGS: - Strawberry matcha latte ($8, 5/5): All the drinks are $8, which is on the steeper end, but they seem worth it. This was a solid strawberry matcha latte and I loved the cold foam on top. The strawberry on the bottom is thick and doesn't mix well, but the foam on top gives it the flavor. Definitely one of the better matchas I've had in Austin! - PB&J cookie (5/5): Stellar cookie. Love that it's thick and big without being overly gooey or sugary. Great flavor, super soft, and I want to try all of the other flavors now! - Ham, egg, cheese "burridough" (3/5): They described this as a burrito and kolache mix. It was just okay. I think since this was the opening week, the place was pretty crowded, but even so, the service was fast, which I could appreciate. I was not very impressed by the vanilla cream cold brew because while the coffee is good (smooth, not acidic), the oat milk that they used was watery, which diluted the coffee and got rid of the flavor entirely when the ice melted in the drink. As for the vanilla cold foam, it was nice and thick. It is dairy based, so if you're lactose intolerant, I'd recommend a different drink. They do have a good sized menu with a lot of interesting drink combinations and yummy looking food, so if you're not feeling the coffee, there's a lot of other things you could try. read more

Stopped by for a cookie and a match cloud on a weekday morning and loved the vibe of the market. All the staff were super friendly and patient while I had decision paralysis on what to order. Inside the store there isn't a lot of space to sit and chit chat, the chair are all at the counter facing the window. There is patio seating outside but it'll probably be too hot once summer hits in full force. All the items there seem to be on the more expensive side. To be fair that cookie was massive but I'm still on the fence if it was worth the price or not. read more

I'm so glad this corner anchor space in Mueller is finally back open after Halcyon closed a long time ago. This is Thoroughbread's sibling, focused on all natural ingredients, and is an all-in-one cafe, bakery, deli, and grocery. The bread selection, is of course, gorgeous. The signature drinks, juices and smoothies all look amazing and are at a decent price point for Mueller. I tried the brioche with butter and it was a tasty treat with some salt on top. The staff was very helpful with picks. I can't wait to go back and try all the giant cookies. read more

I went in because I work nearby and saw a picture of the blue mango smoothie and knew I needed it. I knew it would be cheap, but let me go ahead and say it is $15 for the one smoothie! Now it is a nice size, it would probably fill me up for a meal. It was delicious and I would come back for it. The service was great and chatted with me about my recent move. Since it is also a partial grocery store, the seating arrangement is kinda weird if you want to sit with a group and not in the outside patio area. I've tried a number of items now. I've had the beet juice, which was so fresh and delicious. I will say you have to like the taste of beets because it's thankfully not masked. I've tried most of the cookies and I enjoy them all. They are the perfect gifting cookie! My favorites are the chocolate chip cookie, the chocolate chip pecan, and the trail mix cookie is unreal! I've only tried the banana pecan butter smoothie and I can't wait to try more!! When you try this texture you will be back for more. I had a sandwich with broccolini in it and I recommend that. And last, but not least my number one recommendation is a cold side dish. It was carrots with chili oil and it blew my mind. I've never had anything like it. I felt like everything was made with care and an appreciation for what they're doing. It was a welcoming atmosphere. Cool staff. Great vibe. Side note: Even my 8 year old loved it. It's my go-to spot when I'm hosting or picking something up for friends, and I always love having their bread and cookies stocked at home. So when they opened ThoroughFare in Mueller, I was beyond excited! and t absolutely lives up to the hype. They just opened so we knew it would be slow. The food and drinks were what was shockingly bad. The sandwich was something you would get at a gas station. It was just meat, cheese, bread, Mayo, and iceberg. Nothing for flavor. Espresso drinks also lacked in real flavor despite sounding good. Really disappointing . read more
