Stopped by for breakfast and their bagels are good! Ordered the chicken cutlet and a classic and it was the perfect breakfast. Bagels are fresh and light, not too much bread, good flavor. Service was great, clean spacious spot, this place gets busy! Thankfully the wait wasn't too long but it would've been worth the wait.
So excited to see Nervous Charlie's is coming to S.Lamar!!! I am in love with their bagels, and the only negative thing about NC is that the N.Lamar location is so far away. BTW, if you're north of the river, don't fret: the original location will remain open. Nervous Charlie's 2 will take over the space formerly occupied by Patika with a goal of opening before year's end. I'm "nervously" awaiting the opening! (See what I did there? )
Haven't had a bagel since arriving in Austin last year in the summer. SO... Nervous Charlie's was a spot to go! I honestly didn't know what to expect coming here but there were, to me, mouth watering choices. Coming inside, there's a counter with menus and 2 kiosks to order what anyone wants. There are options on bagels on how it can be prepared along with other options to add or remove items on the bagel. The staff is friendly and them bagels... izzzzz delishhhh-shussssssss!!!!
Nervous Charlie's is some of the best bagels you'll find in North Austin. You order on a screen at the counter but the staff is usually standing by and happy to help you. They offer all classic bagels (sesame, everything, pumpernickel, plain, etc.) with several cream cheese options and bagel sandwiches too. Spring 2026 they have a seasonal dill pickle cream cheese is incredible! I wish it was a permanent option. Service was pretty quick. They brought the order to my table. The place has outdoor seating, although it's right on Lamar so you have to contend with street traffic. During the pandemic, you had to order well in advance, but now on weekdays, you can usually walk in and get your order quickly. Weekends might require a little planning for a larger order. They don't have a great coffee program. They offer light and dark roasts, no espresso drinks or decaf. But I still think they deliver a great, no-frills bagel shop.
Bagels and finding good ones have been something I picked up when I lived in NYC, even going so far as packing a dozen of them whenever I re-visit the Big Apple and bringing them back with me to wherever I call home at the time. Since I've come to Austin I was looking for a bagel place to fill the gap and Nervous Charlie's was the first place I went to, mostly because it was closest to my office. I liked the vibe of the place-kind of like a coffee shop and a busy burger place. I ended up ordering one of their lunch bagels, The Empire and while it was pretty tasty, I thought the sandwich was undersized, both the bagel and the fillings itself. I debated ordering another one and my co-workers (rightly) said I should if I'm not quite full. I'm a big fan of the Everything Bagel and the flavor itself was...low-like the seasoning was thrown on a little before baking. I went back on a weekend and while it was busy their breakfast bagel sandwiches were similarly undersized for my appetite.
Nervous Charlie's Bagels was the exact kind of breakfast win I needed! Hearty and filling and customizable to my liking/needs! I ordered The Classic on a garlic bagel with bacon, scallion cream cheese, and avocado, and it was stacked. The bagel had real authentic and fresh garlic flavor, the cream cheese was THICK and the amount of cream cheese that I personally love was on the sandwich, the egg was cooked just right, and the avocado was fully ripe with no dark spots at all. It's messy but worth it, so grab napkins and plan to enjoy! Also appreciated the online ordering setup and ease. Everything was clearly labeled, wrapped up tight in foil, and it traveled well without turning into a soggy situation. Important with bread! If you like a savory, loaded breakfast bagel that fills you up, this place is the move. I'd happily have this again. 5 stars.

THE BLACK AND WHITE: One morning the wife and I were craving bagel sandwiches and Nervous Charlie's was shown as the top listing. We were excited and the location is close to where we live. For the breakfast sandwiches, The wife got the classic which was 2 eggs and a protein on a bagel. I wanted the Tree hugger, but they were out of alfalfa sprouts. So I went with a bootleg version with the Alexa and added on spinach and avocado along with my pistachio cream cheese. It was good but definitely wanted some alfalfa sprouts. Next time! THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done for two bagel sandwiches was around $22. Delicious but I wouldn't say it was the best bagel sandwich I've ever had in my life. Great for Austin!
Considering I went to UT, I can't believe I didn't try Nervous Charlie's sooner! I came in to try a bagel sandwich for lunch and really enjoyed the treehugger on a jalapeno cheddar. I opted for the spicy cream cheese and - let me tell you it is not for the faint of heart. This is a TRUE spicy. If you don't order more than a medium anywhere, do not get this. I still thought it was delicious but I was not prepared for that burn! When you come in, there's kiosks to order from so there isn't much room to ask for options - however it seems like you can't go wrong here. The place itself can be a bit loud and crowded with folks waiting on their orders. I would recommend sitting outside instead.
Best bagel I've ever had, but I wish they had chipotle sauce. I'm a huge of bagels and this place has really good texture and the bagel itself overall is super high-quality.
As someone from the East Coast, I take bagels seriously, and Nervous Charlie's delivers. The bagels have that proper chew with a slight crisp outside, not just bread with a hole. The everything bagel with cream cheese is a go to, and the sandwiches are stacked just right. Bacon egg and cheese is another go to. Coffee is solid too. It gets crowded and seating is tight, but it is worth it for a legit bagel in Austin.
I love this place ! Great bagels . A cool old Austin vibe . Maybe to cool though the weekend this place has had a 2 hour wait. You can order ahead on the weekends but this place is a go to spot for me on a weekday !
Love this place, parking can be tricky though. But the bagel is absolutely amazing. I got the Hawaiian bagel for $12 plus their house coffee $4. Their service was quick and the space is bright, they have an outdoor patio as well so if you want to bring your pet. Also if yo order online they have a walk up window.
LOVE THEIR BAGELS AND SCHMEAR. I got a jalapeno cheese bagel with a spicy cream cheese, which totally fulfilled my NYC bagel craving. They have the most delicious spicy cream cheese. There is a decent amount of indoor seating and some seating outdoors. They have digital ordering inside as well, which makes the line efficient. I dropped a star because this location gets way too hot in summer. I ended up eating in the car with the AC on instead of inside the shop. Their bagels and cream cheese hit the spot every time!

A popular spot, especially on Saturday mornings when I recently visited. They have an order-ahead option as well as a pickup window outside, so you don't have to worry about the line inside (or when it stretches outside). Cute, casual vibe, and the staff is friendly and efficient when taking orders, calling out your name loudly once it's ready. They've got indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor tables come with umbrellas -- much needed! We waited in line for less than 10 minutes to place our order, then another 10 minutes for our 4 bagel order. Our iced coffee and drinks were handed over right away, so we grabbed a table inside to wait. I got an everything bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese, toasted and scooped out with ketchup, and it was amazing! The bacon had a slight smoky taste and was medium cut, and the egg, cheese, and ketchup were all perfectly stacked inside. The bagel itself was soft, chewy, and nicely toasted -- delicious. Even though it was crowded, everyone was polite and patient, and no one seemed to mind the wait. I can attest: the food is worth it, and I will be back when I am in town again, just will probably order ahead! read more

Always a long wait for this location. The Longhorn is my favorite on their menu. I wish their bagels were a bit bigger and fluffier but the flavors of all the bagel sandwiches I've tried are delicious! I recommend ordering ahead online if you plan on grab and go. It's usually quite busy so it's hard to find any seating inside. We usually just get our order to-go and eat in our car or somewhere else. read more

As a bagel lover, I really enjoyed this place! I placed a online order for pick up, and it was ready by the time it stated! There is a pick up window, and the employee was very nice. I got the box bagel with reduced fat cream cheese. It also had onions and dill on and everything bagel. It was really really good! I also liked how they put the cream cheese on the side so that I could add as much as I wanted to since I don't like my bagels with too much cream cheese! There is no seating inside, they do have a patio that is dog friendly with a few tables! It ended up being really crowded so we just took our bagels home. Parking is super easy there is a huge huge lot around. This place is also located near other restaurants and stores like a half price books! read more
The inside of this place gives Austin. It's weird, fun, colorful and casual! We ordered on their kiosk and the bagels were out in 5 minutes. Got a classic with no protein, vegan veggie cream cheese on an everything bagel. I really enjoyed my sandwich but wished there was more of a flavor in my cream cheese. While my partner got the longhorn which is hearty and packs a punch- great combination of flavors. I'll be back for more! read more

Ordered two bagel sandwiches for pick up. It was very easy to order online and pick up at the store. I got an egg, sausage and cheese sandwich's on an everything wheat bagel. The bagel wasn't that toasted, but the sausage and egg was just right. Overall, decent bagels that will fill you up. read more
The bagel sandwiches here are pretty good. I got the Bourdain with avocado which was a more lavish option, pretty expensive compared to other bagel shops I've tried. The flavors are great but super slow so don't come if you're in a rush. read more

Nervous Charlies is such a vibe! When you walk in you are transported to a super cool, laid back and casual environment. The bright orange color and slick lines jump out at you. I shazamed the song playing in the background (Breathe - featuring Angela McCluskey by Telepopmusik)...very relaxing and chill. The bagel shop has these eye engaging artifacts - a huge wall art of Nervous Charlie portrait, colorful bandanas and colorful t-shirts. There is always a cork board with dogs with nervous disorders. The name Nervous Charlie's does not evoke positive vibes. However, when I learned the owner had a dog named Charlie with anxiety it was so heartwarming. Now, for the bagel...I ordered a toasted multigrain bagel with cream cheese, and it cost $3.50...super reasonably priced, which I appreciated. Nervous Charlie's serves New York-style bages. The bagel had multi-grains on the bottom and top...crisp on the outside and soft inside...perfect combo! They gave me a very generous helping of cream cheese. OMG...this cream cheese was so smooth and flavorful. I asked for jam, and they provided strawberry jam at no additional cost. That strawberry jam was so delightful...strong strawberry flavor without being eye-squinting sweet. This bagel was so enjoyable to eat. Also, there were about 9 individuals working in the kitchen. It was a constant flow of customers at the "to go" window. This bagel shop appears to be super popular. I totally LOVED my bagel. Don't be nervous, try Nervous Charlie's bagels!!! I love nervous Charlie's bagels! It's the perfect place for breakfast. Whenever I have friends or family come into town we always pick up bagels from nervous Charlie's. I like to order the tree hugger, which has tomato, cucumber, and sprouts. It's refreshing but also very filling. It can get a little busy on the weekend so I would definitely order ahead. It's a small little bagel shop but perfect to eat there or to take out to go. Overall, I would recommend nervous Charlies to anyone who wants a delicious breakfast bagel! read more
Ordering at the kiosk was so simple and stress free! I loved being able to see the options and order how I would like my bagel. The bagel was so simple but flavorful! I'll definitely will go back to try all the other options. They were pretty quick with my order with no long wait. I was so happy to see that it had a parking lot with plenty of parking. This place has outdoor and indoor seating that has a great vibe. My friends and I loved the logo. It's the reason why we came here more than once during our Austin trip. The bagels were a nice to-go food. It can get busy and loud so be sure to listen for your order. They wrote my name wrong so I waited a little too long... I had to go up to the counter to check based on my order versus the name. If you need to order a sandwich with all the fixings, then go to the register. If you need to order a bagel with just cream cheese or butter, head over to the kiosks. This will save you some time and not have to wait in line. The tree hugger was my favorite and the veggies were fresh and made me feel healthy. They give a good bagel to cream cheese ratio. Be warned, they mixed up our orders each time, the label on the bagel may not be what is actually inside. It's a good thing our group stayed together that we can easily fix it and swap. We laughed it off. However, this could have been an issue if anybody had any allergies. read more

It was very easy to order at one of the two kiosks. It's noted, however, that if you want to order a sandwich, you need to go directly to the register to order. I love it that they don't have a standard drink fountain; instead, they have Dr. Brown sodas. Yes! Also, they care for your furry friends; grab a dog bone while you're ordering and share it with your pup. I have learned that the best way to ensure you get the bagel you want is to patronize Nervous Charlies before 10:30 am. The selection dwindles after that. read more

While Nervous Charlie's isn't bad, by any means, I think my expectations were so high that it became a letdown when I did finally try it. I love love love new York style bagels, so I came in thinking of a thick, warm, doughy bagel with a nice chew. And a discernable crust. And while the bagels here are definitely better than grocery store quality, it didn't hit the same. Also, this part is completely on me. I had no idea what a salt bagel was. And I pray that you look up what it is before you order it. I thought, sure salt bagel, it'll be like a pretzel that sounds delicious. But the bagel is like COATED in huge salt crystals and it's sooo salty. Like my tongue was lowkey burning and I had to scrape practically all of it off. So just beware of what you order with it. I think usually, if you order a salt bagel, you just get it with something fatty like lox or a lottt of cream cheese to cut it down. But yeah, I was shocked. Anyways the tree hugger is pretty good. The toppings all taste really fresh. And I like that you can choose what kind of cream cheese you want. I got the honey walnut, which was really good. But I don't think it was mixed in very well, because I definitely got some chunks of just plain cream cheese. The empire was okay. The dressing was a lot more mayo-y than I expected. But even with the dressing, the overall bagel still felt very dry and hard to chew through. The chicken inside just seemed like a dry frozen chicken patty. And it seemed more like a baked chicken patty rather than a fried one. read more
My boyfriend and I came in a Saturday morning and ordered a Longhorn breakfast sandwich with a protein choice of sausage on a garlic bagel. We asked them to cut it in half since we were sharing it. My boyfriend also ordered a coffee, which they were okay with him filling his own Yeti mug that he brought with. There were quite a few tables and seating, but the majority of them were taken since this is such a popular breakfast spot. We shared a table with a mom and baby daughter, who told us that she lives in the neighborhood and stops by every weekend to pick something up. Our breakfast sandwich was ready within a few minutes. It was moist and seasoned perfectly. The sauce was delicious and the serving size was generous. The combinations of ingredients blended together so wonderfully. Despite sharing one sandwich, we left happy and satisfied. We will be returning whenever we are craving a hefty breakfast sandwich. read more

Funny story about this place, I would always drive past and thought it was a pet shop. It wasn't until recently when my partner and I went for a walk that we realized it was a quintessential bagel shop. Both of us being from the NorthEast was compelled to stop and eat. My partner really enjoyed the ice coffee. He got a lox bagel and I ordered the baconn egg and cheese of course haha! They have wide variety of bagels. They had some flavors that I never saw before. This place is pretty gets busy on the weekends but they are super efficient with the orders. Cute gem! read more
Boom! Finally a place that really gets it right! This is how a Jersey bagel should be done! I read they get the dough (w/ the water) flown in from NYC (jersey bagels are better but NYC can still be commendable). I opened the wrapped on my bacon egg and cheese and was like...okay, okay.. and then once I took one bite I knew. They did it right. I had that doughie davey's last week which was pretty good but doesn't quite get the jersey part right. Anyway, Charlie's is around 30% CHEAPER as well as tastes better. Put another way (to have fun with math), if you go to Nervous Chuck and then try doughie dave, you'll pay 50% more. Crazy. Now, I am a Texan (my boss told me to remember I am a refugee not a missionary), but it's def nice to have some pockets of bagels and pizza that are done jersey style! I have reviewed this place before and I come maybe once a month as I try to keep low carb most of the time but I have to tell the world before it is too late!!! This place has a rosemary and honey cream cheese that is an orgasmic experience. It is a winter special and ends this month (Feb). I had it on a scooped, double toasted everything bagel and is the best thing I have eaten in a while!!! read more
