I have a few things about Halcyon - 1) I can never spell it correctly when texting my friends to let them know am there reading, waiting, drinking, etc. and 2) I have been coming here for years that I am SO surprised I had not added it to my personal list of "Best Spots To Go To For More Than Coffee". This is the spot you go to if you want to hang out, in between you doing your thing (shows, bar hopping, dinner, before you go back to the hotel, etc.), and great for if and when you are solo and just want to have a good cocktail. Recently I was here before catching a show down the street a major music venue. I had my ride share drop me off here at Halcyon for some pre-game drinks before my show. I sat at the bar as I had a beer and shot combo and watched folks enjoying conversation with their friends and even saw a cool sharing smore-like plate that came out for a group sitting in the booths. I stopped by Halcyon during the CAP10K Coffee Run, and it was a solid experience! Located in the Warehouse District in Austin, the vibe is bright and welcoming, perfect for hosting a community event. The space itself is modern and clean, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to linger if you have time. They offer a menu of libations and bites. I didn't try any food this visit, but the s'mores looked like a great experience. My only issue is that the line got a bit long after the run, but that is to be expected on a busy event morning. I wanted to try a new spot to get work done or read in between obligations. Claude AI recommended Halcyon based on my location & parameters. It seemed cozy from the photos. When I walked in it was super busy and I almost felt unwelcome but later found a long table to claim. I had to crawl underneath between the tables to secure my charger in the surge protector. I ordered a mocktail and sweet brunch dish after already eating something savory from Little Brother on SoCo. They also had Drag Brunch ongoing so I couldn't properly focus. I guess AI was not able to find this information I did submit a job application and check lab results but reading a book was not happening. I'm leaving my review simply for the wonderful staff I had the pleasure of dealing with, specifically Cassie, she had such a wonderful energy and her customer service was beyond impeccable. In addition to Cassie, the brief interaction I had with Megan was also nothing short of wonderful! First time checking out their Thursday girl dinner special with a few girlfriends. It runs every Thursday from 5-7 and you get a Cesar Salad, French Fries and either an espresso or dirty martini. We arrived right at 5 pm and the line was already like 10 people deep. We decided to get in line before it grew and WOW I'm so happy we did! The line got insane and wrapped around the restaurant. Mind you this was also a holiday weekend. The next day was Juneteenth and most had off the next day. I highly recommend arriving early, grabbing a table and get in line. Also order two drinks at a time. You can still order from the bar for drinks, but just in case. The staff was super friendly and quick. Super chill and relaxed atmosphere, you don't feel that rush or anxiety you get from some coffee shops when you order. This has a downside that I will get to in Minus. The drinks and coffee were very good. They had some unique drinks and we just chilled and enjoyed the relaxed mood. I don't remember if they had food but we didn't get anything. The staff was friendly and pretty fast, it wasn't busy at all, just a few people so not sure how it is if it gets busy. MINUS: This ties into the 2nd plus. The people ordering before us either knew the employee or were just friendly which is great and I am not knocking the laid back vibe but knowing there are people waiting when there wasn't before maybe move over, talk the employee more once we ordered. I lived in Austin eleven great years with many great memories formed in many great venues across the city. Halcyon was one of them, especially my memories of this café in 2010-2013. Even years later, I still enjoyed the place in my random visits, with its mix of bites, good coffee and adult libations, open and authentic servers and clientele, and maybe a little live music. In town for a business conference this late winter, I was so excited to relive all of those years. I had a packed itinerary of hand-selected venues for my four full days and Halcyon was on it! I'm an avid reader of Yelp reviews as I'm always trying out new establishments. I'd read through many reviews for the Austin places I was about to revisit and was mildly offended and stunned by many reviewers seemingly maligning Halcyon for such very rude servers. They were grossly exaggerating--this is Austin, I thought! When I stopped in, there was a performance going on inside, with many watching, but others sitting and drinking and talking amongst themselves. No one was at the counter, and the twenty something blonde barista (young enough to be my daughter) behind the counter was casually chatting with someone near her side. She approached me and I politely ordered a cold brew coffee. I was feeling upbeat, and happy to be back in a city that will always be a home to me. As I waited at the counter I took a 360 degree video of the place (as I did throughout my trip) to remember the place. When she brought me my cold brew, I politely said, "I'm sorry, I forgot to ask, can I get a little milk in this?" She replied in a firm and irritated tone, "Tell me next time at the beginning. I'm busy!" I was stunned. Surely I'd misheard her. "I'm sorry, I couldn't hear." And touched my ear. She repeated the words in an even more annoyed tone. I looked at her in such disbelief I actually couldn't reply, or retort. She went back to talking to her friend. Rather than comment further or debate with her, I left--not staying to order any more food or other drinks. To Halcyon's owner, you really should heed the reviews of your customers and clean house. Return the place to what it was years ago. You are anchored in the heart of AUSTIN. That manner of treating many people who had appreciated your place truly jars with the vibe and spirit of the city. I lived in Boston three years and was never treated that way by a server there. Or in fact, by any other server, elsewhere in my life. I tend to make new friends wherever I go--but I suppose that interaction was not one of those moments. read more

This place is very interesting at night because the decor looks like a coffee shop with the paintings and sofas but the atmosphere felt like a bar which I really enjoyed. Anyways, literally dead and no-one here. The lady at the cash register who received me was either heavily medicated on anti depressants, hates her life, or was raised that way.
