Cafe 605 is located inside of the Hotel Van Zandt on the ground floor. It's a convenience store - but does not have a lot of selection. I picked up an Italian sub one evening. plus potato chips and cold bottled water. The sub was a bit skimpy on meat and cheese - it was mostly sub roll. Disappointing. Service was good. #Cafe605

We stopped in last Saturday to cool off with some iced coffee. I really love the decor of this place - modern and trendy with rustic touches (the live edge wood table is gorgeous). The menu consists of coffee, drinks, and food. The pastry case is displayed next to the register, and the far will is filled with souvenir items in lit display cases. The girl behind the counter was friendly and fast. We ordered 2 iced coffees and a glass of wine, and the bill came out to roughly $25, which isn't terribly surprising given the location. The coffee was good - my husband seemed to like it more than Starbucks, but he's no coffee connoisseur. I can't speak for the food, but overall, a pretty cool place to hang out for a bit.

Little cute coffee shop at the bottom of hotel Van Zandt. Great spot to grab a nice coffee if you're staying at the hotel or strolling down Rainey street. I am certainly not a coffee connoisseur but the cappuccino was good. Also had a breakfast sandwich that also hit the spot. It's clean, spacious and the guy that served us was chipper and friendly. Prices are a little high and he was working on his own so sanitation of the surfaces between guests isn't always the quickest. That's the only reason for 4* and not 5! Will be revisiting!

They serve a decent coffee with alternative non-dairy milks. The breakfast taco and other items can be warmed up in a similar microwave/convection oven thingie that Starbucks uses in their stores. The brisket breakfast taco is okay and will get you by, but seriously, you can get better eats for the price and location. The service here is very friendly.

Smooth outstanding cup of java with good tunes playing. Connected to the Hotel Van Zandt which is a nice upscale Kimpton property.

Pretty and chic inside with friendly cashiers/coffee-makers. Tasty coffee (including spiked coffee). I already love it.

Unfortunately, the kitchen just wasn't on their game this day. We went for brunch and it is a lovely restaurant with some amazing looking pastries. My ratings of the food we got are below. Overall, everything was just okay and not something I would order again. Our order: Salami and cheese - 1/10, not even edible with how much olive oil they dumped on it. Hard cheese and meat. None of us touched it. Frites - 9/10, hard to go wrong here. Nice and crispy French cruller - 7/10, I think this is just personal presence here I wished it was warmed up. Flavor was good but it was a little dry. Burger - 5/10, the flavor is there and definitely has potential but it was so bloody and rare which is not what we asked for. My friend has a gluten allergy and she asked for the burger lettuce wrapped and it just came on top of a huge chunk of iceberg so wouldn't recommend that if you want it lettuce wrapped. Chicken sandwich - 8/10, this was good with a nice crispy chicken. It could have used something sweet to balance the spice though it was a little one dimensional.

Got parking right in front around 9 pm on a Wed. Upon entry was greeted by Melissa and sat in her section. The decor is very diner type with low, cozy booths and few tables and chairs. Not too big of a space and not sure if there is more seating elsewhere. Anyhoo, coffee was good and I got the Royal toast and a single pancake with eggs, and sausage. Ample amount of food and def had take away box. Everything was tasty and the buttermilk pancake was amazing with just syrup. Melissa was kind enough to provide little cups to take syrup home along with the tael away container. They had a daily special and a board above the kitchen with other items. Really wanted to try a slice of pie ( TX Pie Co) but seems a bit outta line with what I already ordered. Maybe next time.

We were both starving and this place is open 24/7. I drove by it for 20 years on the way to Avenue Barber Shop. I wanted shredded beef tacos but couldn't get them without cilantro so I chose shredded beef enchiladas (with an $8!) side of chips and salsa. My wife ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries. She requested soft eggs, as she always does because too many places overcook them. The chips and salsa arrived. I was immediately disappointed. The menu said "we make our own chips." They were thick and yellow and appeared to be run-of-the-mill, out-of-a-bag chips. I prefer the thin white ones. I took one bite of salsa, and that was one bite too many. Cumin. I pushed it all aside. Cumin doesn't belong in salsa. (Sorry. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley.) My enchiladas came with black beans, and there was cumin in them. Cumin is overused and abused in most restaurants. I couldn't eat them. The rice was good but the chipotle sauce on the enchiladas was not. I scraped most of the sauce off and ate one enchilada, mainly because I just needed something in my stomach. We were still 45 miles from home. I pushed my plate away. I also ordered coffee. One sip of that was all I could stand. Too weak for me. It gets worse, much worse. My wife's eggs were barely cooked. She asked the waiter for some cooked eggs. He took her plate and returned about four minutes later. The eggs were still not cooked. She tried another bite but couldn't eat them. Her bacon was tough as a boot and not chewable. The home fries were average, but by the time her plate arrived at our table for the second time, they were cold. I pulled my card out waiting for our excellent server to return. He asked how everything was (he had to notice two plates still covered with food) and we politely told him. I ate one enchilada and some rice. My wife had two bites of egg and two bites of potato. He apologized and handed me the check. $65. Nothing comped and nothing adjusted. A manager should've been summoned. How does a place like this have any customers? It was our first and last visit.

It's a small space, with only around eight tables and a tiny kitchen behind the counter. It's a bit hard to locate from outside. There's no big sign on the window indicating the restaurant's name, just a plastic A-frame sign outside the building's doors. When I got there, four of the eight tables were empty but the dirty dishes had not yet been cleared. It took close to 10 minutes for the tables to be bused. Because the kitchen is so small, I'd recommend going up to the counter to order as soon as you get there. I believe you can also place your order online using the QR code on the table, but I didn't try that method. I ordered the lox n found, a toasted croissant roll with smoked salmon, avocado, dill ricotta, arugula, onion, and capers. The menu says it also comes with a side of roasted potatoes, but mine didn't come with that. The sandwich was delicious and filling, so I definitely didn't need them, but I do feel like I didn't get what I paid for.
