Ah this place is so cute! We had the best rotisserie chicken ever here. We got the family meal which comes with a whole rotisserie chicken, potatoes, 4 Parker rolls & a salad of your choice. The chicken was flavored perfectly, and the texture was so soft and melted in your mouth. The chimmi churri sauce it came with made it extra delicious. This review is for the new Swedish Hill location in Westlake Hills where Blue Dahlia used to be. I loved this cafe and bakery at their downtown location. I was very excited when I read that they opened in Westlake Hills, closer to my home. I decided to try them yesterday. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. Their prices are way higher than normal. For example a baguette is $8 vs. $3 at other high end places. The cafe au lait was lukewarm and weak. I waited 15 minutes to get my ham and gruyere croissant warmed up only to realize that they had forgotten about it. The service was slow and no attention to details. The decor is nice and modern but was very disappointed at the quality and the service. They need to get their act together and also review some of their prices. I had a very poor service experience. A simple bagel order came out later than orders that were placed behind it because the woman forgot went on the toaster.. then I asked if they followed my instructions to cut in in half they said yes but when I got home, it wasn't. Thirdly, it was a to go order and they don't tell you that you have to pack utensils and fetch a bag self service underneath the hidden table. Of course the food is very tasty with an extravagant price, and when the person took my order, they were a bit impatient, gladly took the tip. Finally found my favorite croissant place in Austin! My favorite was the almond croissant. Their almond croissant was definitely not like the others. It had the perfect amount of flaky and chew and their almond paste was almost custardy and didnt have a super artificial almond essence. Their everything croissant was also really good. They really loaded up on the black sesame in their everything blend which I loved cause it really gave it that nuttiness that goes really well with the buttery croissant. Their kouign amann was pretty tasty but I havent had a lot of kouign amann so I don't really have much to compare it to. This place is very crowded on a saturday morning and I think because everyone was busy they were not very attentive about cleaning up tables after customers. read more

Great breakfast spot to have something light or get work done. Even saw quick meetings taking place. It's shaded all morning so won't have to worry about the heat. Fans are there but weren't on assuming they don't want to circulate hot air. Lavender latte was given in a glass not cup which was nice, it was smaller than expected and price paid. Popped in here on my way to airport and it's a very aesthetically pleasing shop, reminds me of England/ France with a some vintage Americana touches. It wasn't busy since we were there so early, service was good, and our pastries were delicious. My sister had the croissant, I had the Nutella bun, and bought a ham and cheese croissant to go. Swedish Hill reminds me of the the family sandwich shops I went to when I was younger. Much fancier looking aesthetically though. While waiting in line, you can admire $51 bottles of Olive Oil and $47 note pads- not joking The food was good, the service was good. However, I'm not sure that it was $66.04 for sandwiches good. I was stuck between 3 and 4 stars but the chocolate chip cookie won me over. At $6 I had high expectations. Next time, I will try the macarons. They had 3 kinds today. read more

I know this place is quite popular in Austin but I think they don't seem to put any effort in because they already win on location and possibly regulars. The people behind the counter were chatting away and even after making eye contact that I was looking for help at the dessert counter, they continued their chitchat instead of offering to assist. I had to wait 5-7 minutes until their gossip session was done before I could order. Then, they told me they were closing soon and could only offer items to-go. There is a beautiful selection of macarons, cookies, cakes, and pastries. We ordered the zucchini bread and the buckwheat raspberry scone. Both were delicious! The iced oat milk latte was served in a glass filled with nugget ice. The latte was just strong enough to not be overpowering. It was very good! I visited Swedish Hill on a chilly, rainy Saturday morning. To say it was bustling would greatly understate the frenetic pace! All orders are placed at a bakery counter and diners then seat themselves. Orders are delivered to tables using a tracking system but due to a glitch, our coffees were delivered 10 minutes after we finished our meals. I had a croissant breakfast sandwich. Scrambled eggs were very well prepared small curd scrambled. Served with greens and a flavorful dill dressing, I indulged in two and was not disappointed. My Americano was on the weak side of OK. Bitter and not flavorful, it was a disappointment. I knock off one star for the Americano, but acknowledge that it may just have been an anomaly. The meat ratio was low but the pickled onions were the peak and the bread was fresh and crispy in all the right ways. I have very mixed feelings about this place. It has potential. But each time it either misses the mark or isn't consistent. I always order through Door Dash, so I'm sure some of the issues have to do with DD. But most of these issues come from the restaurant I think. In today's order the pickled onions leaked everywhere onto the cookies and cinnamon rolls. The onions are packaged in little cups, so either the lids were not put on tight or they need to purchase a new type of cup where the juice doesn't leak out. Last time I ordered the cinnamon roll it was soft, as if it was either baked that morning or warmed up. Today's was cold and very dry. My latte arrived half full. There was a sticker over the opening, so it didn't spill out in delivery. It was made that way. 75% of the time the bagels are either over toasted or they're stale which makes them difficult to chew. Last time I ordered there was a pint of pickles listed as an option on Door Dash. When they were delivered they were spicy. No where on the ordering page did it specify spicy. It looks like the page has been updated since to reflect spicy. This might finally be my last time ordering from this place, which sucks because I love the assortment of pastries they offer. read more

Swedish Hill is a delightful cafe and bakery off of 6th street on the west side. With outdoor couch seating and table and bar seating inside you will be hard pressed to be waiting for a place to eat. They have a little market inside selling all kinds of drinks and homemade dips and cheeses. I got an order of the bacon pimento cheese that was super delicious. They are a brunch spot and serve light plates with sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. They also serve wines and can buy bottles to take home. You can even choose to build your own sandwich. I got a vanilla latte and a lox bagel. The lox was super delicious and it was a make your own style. So you can choose to put however much ingredients you want on your bagel. Highly overrated. There's almost always packs of people here, especially on the weekends. Thankfully I live walking distance and can just get my food to-go. Service is fine, although they are not very keen on making any adjustments to their dishes. Their coffee is mediocre. One time I got a Garden Salad here. I know this is probably the most basic item I could order, but the dish I received literally looked as if they dumped one of those pre-chopped salad bags you can get from Trader Joe's. Anyways, there are two aspects to this place that serve as its saving grace. 1. The Bakery. I haven't had too many items, but the ones I did have were quite amazing. The Pineapple Upside-Down Croissant was a standout. 2. Their Breakfast Sandwich. They just found a perfect balance between tasty and light, with an added spicy kick. While the pizza was delicious, their Italian chopped salad was one of the best salads I've ever had at a restaurant. When you're finished with your meal, you can peek at their bakery items + store. They have everything from cookbooks, to jam, and a healthy selection of wine. You can pick up a bottle and some Nutella eclairs to go ! Great place for breakfast, quick lunch, or dinner. Staff were super helpful in answering my questions and were knowledgeable when asking for a wine to pair with my meal. I popped into Swedish Hill when I was on vacation in Austin and really enjoyed my visit. I was drawn in by the adorable, breezy patio and the charming interior. It evoked feelings of a chic European bakery. The menu has an upscale mix of items. You can get anything from wine and beer to coffee and tea drinks to charcuterie and even fish and caviar. I ordered a matcha latte and found it be quite tasty. It wasn't overly sweetened like many matcha lattes at other cafes. I would be remiss to end this review without raving about the pastries that they make. The dessert case is absolutely beautiful with so many classic options to to select from. First time coming here. Had a friend in town who used to live here and was craving a sandwich from one of her favorite spots. Ambiance - the ambiance, decor, and seating spaces were all very open and inviting. Great outdoor seating, plenty of doggos hanging out in the outdoor seating area. You order food in a line and you find your own seating, but we were able to find outdoor seating on a nice day pretty easily. It can get a little noisy if that's something that bothers you, but it's good for people watching. Bagel and lox - I ordered the bagel and lox and overall it was quite good. The bagel was perfectly toasted, the rest of the toppings didn't come put together so on one side, you have to make your sandwich yourself, on the other hand, you get to determine how much cream cheese and toppings you want on it. It's sort of a risk-free decision on their part and I'm okay with it. I also tried some of my friend's pesto pasta salad and it was pretty decent. Swedish Hill was great the first few times I went before it moved down the block from its previous, larger space. The food was consistent and hit the spot; it was never out of this world but it was a reliable brunch spot and their bagel & lox was a favorite. However, with subsequent visits, notably at the new location, the quality of food and service has deteriorated. At the new spot, there is so little seating that the only way to enjoy your food at the venue is to go during the off hours... or post up next to someone's table while they're eating. If you know, expecting to take food to go is forgivable. What's not forgivable is messing up an order when you wrap your sandwiches like a Christmas present. Two visits ago, I ordered a bagel and lox and only got a bagel, lox, and cream cheese, no garnishes like capers or dill. Last time, I ordered a chicken pesto sandwich and the actual sandwich I received was veggies and mayo on stale white bread, no chicken nor pesto. That will be my last for a while. If it's still around in a year or two, maybe I'll give this place another chance. read more
