This fast food chain often been badly manage. Full of workers that don't want to take orders from Customers or lack of CS skills. Last time I saw there were only one person in the counter taking orders and filling. But behind the door was full of young guys horse playing in the cooking area. You can see them having their fun time when the door swung open. A month ago, there were three people behind the counter. But none of them taking orders. the older lady just keep counting the change in the cash registers, the younger one wants to keep checking current orders or whatever she's pretending on doing. Then another one comes along she grab a roll of coins and start counting that too. The line was long as it's not moving it's getting even longer. Maybe I didn't eat the right thing? I ordered the 2 piece chicken combo with the bihon as my side. I was hungry for some pancit and it was such a big disappointment. It had a funky flavoring to me. And I know that the chicken said "Mandarin" or something attached to its name so I'm thinking that's where that Chinese 5 spice comes in. The gravy that accompanied the chicken was alright, so I just used that to kill whatever the flavoring in the pancit was. Portion sizes are "just right" meaning it's the same portion size you get if you were actually eating out in the Philippines. They don't serve their meals overflowing from the container like other places. Food is decent. I wouldn't say it's the best Filipino food I've had, but it's tasty. halo-halo, etc... I live a litte over an hour away in Roseville but when I get the chance to come here I must have their delicious halo-halo! It is basically a fast food Filipino restaurant. You place your order at the counter and you get your food when it is ready. There are plenty of seating but the place can get full. The restaurant offers simple Filipino food including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast favorites such as tocino/bangus, longanisa/bangus, or simply tocino or longanisa by itself with rice. They have noodles and soups such as beef wonton, congee, lomi, and pansit bihon. The bowls are a nice size and filling. The soup is great on cold days. Aside from that I already mentioned they also offer chicken combos (their menu calls these 'Chef's Special'... Chinese-style fried chicken, garlic chicken, and chao fan w/ shumai. Whether you decide to dine-in or take out the meal will come in a box. My favorite are their dimsums and sides. They offer shumai and BBQ pork siopao, they also have fried tofu... my favorite are their sesame balls (buchi) which comes with 6-pcs for $1.99. Don't forget their desserts! Some Filipino classics like halo-halo, taho, black jelly and an assortment of flavor of shakes. I stop at Chowking to grab a buko pandan shake whenever I'm grocery shopping at Seafood City. That's pretty much the only thing I'll order from here. I suggest getting it without tapioca though--their pearls are a bit overcooked, and therefore mushy. This location definitely doesn't compare to Chowking in the Philippines. Even without the comparison, it's not great Chinese/Filipino fast food. If you're hungry and looking for a quick fix, I'd head to Jollibee next door instead. read more

I remembered the food at chow king tasting way better in the past. I got a combo with the chow mein, egg rice, fried chicken and shanghai. The shanghai was a no go, really dried and bleh. The chow mein and egg rice tasted really basic , I felt like I needed to pour soy sauce all over it. The fried chicken had a good flavor but the battered it was fried in looked a little strange to me. If I am paying almost $9 for my food I expect something more. There are items that I like from Chowking. Like their Halo Halo and breakfast combos being better than Jollibee and items like the Chinese influenced items like siopao and siomai that I do like. Hrmm. If Jollibee is the Filipino equivalent of say, McDonalds, Chowking is... You know, I do not know where Chowking would fall. I can't think of something a notch below McDonalds, since they're already pretty low on the fast food totem pole already. Anyhow, Chowking is very underwhelming. The menu is an attempt at combinations/fusions of Chinese and Filipino cuisines. Side note: there's a big population of Chinese in the Philippines and a whole lotta Filipino cuisine is Chinese-inspired, so I guess Chowking attempts to capitalize on that. So, you've got stuff like longanisa, tocino, and arroz caldo with the likes of meat buns, chow mein, and some dimsum items. So, you get a pretty big variety to choose from, menu-wise. Execution? Not so good. All the times I've eaten here, food is either not hot enough or not flavorful enough. It is usually a combination of both. So, don't come here expecting a feast for the senses. You will be disappointed. On the plus sides, they have good service and their desserts are pretty decent. Nice to cool off to one of their ube shakes or halo halo. Still, those aren't enough to be saving graces. If you really need a Filipino fast food fix, walk a few more feet to Jollibee. Or get some real Filipino food over at DJ's. Sorry Chowking. read more

Shumai is a must when I come here. I love the all day breakfast because sometimes you just want bangus and egg for dinner. The wait isn't so bad, only on the weekends just because it's next to Seafood City and other yummy restaurants that I enjoy going too. My boyfriend loves the chicken and WE all love the congee!!! I think Chowking is mediocre at best. The food always looks so anorexic compared to the picture. Anyway, I used to enjoy their arroz caldo, even though I would have to get there at about 7:30AM before they serve me left-over looking watery stew. It was cheaper than Red Ribbon who puts mushrooms and shredded chicken in theirs. However, now they took out the arroz caldo and made it tofu congee. If I really wanted congee I would go to a Chinese restaurant where it much cheaper and tastier. Tofu congee though. I know they're trying to cut costs because it's cheaper, but don't they know that soy is one of the most common food allergens? Unfortunately I'm one of those people who suffer from that. And on top of that the cashier was giving me some kind of look like she was getting impatient that I was ordering fast enough. My bad you took out the only thing I enjoyed on the menu and replaced it with something I can't eat. For filipino fast food, this is pretty good. I love their breakfast, for about $6 you can get garlic fried rice, eggs and tocino w/ a slice of longonisa. crackin! Their fried chicken is super AWESOME, i think they cook it in shortening... and it just tastes so much better than Jollibee. AND the best part is it comes w/ gravy. i love it, i love it! My friends and I waited like 10-15 minutes just to get our Ube and Buko Pandan Shake that is already ready-made. Drink service should never take that long! I ordered a meal that came with a drink, but I asked to substitute the soda for a Thai tea and they charged me a separate order for Thai tea. I might as well have gotten my soda and Thai tea also. Or at least taken 50 cents off since I got the meal. In addition, they didn't give me a straw for my Thai tea when I ordered to-go. They also forgot to give me the vinegar sauce. I ordered the lumpia and pancit plate and 2 pork steamed buns. the lumpia was the size of my pinkie and each one had a white spot, I thought it was mold but not sure. I tasted a piece of it, it was very dry and I threw all 5 pieces in the trash. the Pancit tasted extremely bland, noodles and cabbage only.
