I enjoy Hop Hings for what it is: a nostalgic quick serve / ready-made Chinese food that I enjoy a few times a year. A combo with chow mein or fried rice + 1 entree is $11 at the time of this review. There is an option that's a little cheaper that comes with white rice, or one that's a few dollars more that comes with two entrees. I like the chow mein, the teriyaki chicken, and the string bean chicken. If you go the teriyaki route it also comes with teriyaki sauce. I always ask for soy sauce and hot chili oil out of habit, but I rarely end up needing the soy sauce - I say that as a good thing. My review is based on those items I mentioned, I haven't tried anything else other than the occasional spring roll. I get my food to-go, no complaints on customer service from me. They'll let you try something before you order it so don't be afraid to ask. The closer to opening / mid-day the better to avoid getting food that's been sitting out for a while. If they're out of something and it's close to closing time, they probably aren't making more of it. Sometimes they close earlier than their advertised hours. The following doesn't factor into my rating, but it is something to keep in mind: the Chinese food in Vallejo is all pretty equally yoked. Comparatively speaking, the food taste/quality you get here is probably equal to (and in some cases better than) other options in town at a better price point. read more

Food taste great. Fresh and well seasoned. Nice serving size. Good service. A little sketchy outside but very Clean inside.

This Chinese spot has been a mandatory staple ever since I was a little girl. I'm born, and raised in Vallejo CA so I've been coming to this establishment for years, well not anymore! I finally get a chance to come in since I got off work early, and I come with the mentality to get a simple combo rice plate with black pepper chicken. As soon as I walk in I was greeted promptly, but when I noticed the black pepper chicken was all out I simply asked the woman if they'd be making anymore, and she said no! Seriously? Little does she know I have a food service background, as well as providing exceptional customer service. The woman who greeted me was rude, and not having what's advertised is showing a false image, and deceitful. It's not hard to have the chef in the back make another batch of the black pepper chicken. If you don't want to do your job, then simply go elsewhere! But saying there's no more black pepper chicken instead of making more is a poor excuse, and the lack of work ethic will not be tolerated by many. Good luck! read more

Horrible service! It was 5:20 pm and they told me that I could not place an order because they were closing at 6pm. I could only choose from what was left over which was not even much. The closing hours indicated online are 8:30pm. Who closes a restaurant at 6pm on a Friday? The person at counter did not even seem to care! Place has gone downhill since new ownership. Very sad! I had ordered before from them and the food was OK. Today I ordered from DoorDash and got the confirmation at 7:28pm they normally close at 8:30pm. They decided to close early tonight & didn't bother to fill the order. Even though they were still open when it was placed. When the Dasher went there to pick up the meal they were very casual. Didn't care at all. So not only are they rude but Vallejo at 8 o'clock at night does not have much to offer so it was very hard to find anything to eat let alone something I wanted after I couldn't get the meal from them. If they had cared to post on DoorDash that they were closing early then I would not have waited for 40 minutes for food that wasn't coming. Not nice. Not considerate. And so not the kind of people I want making my food. I will not order from them for a year. read more

I love the food here. But they clearly don't follow their own posted hours. Too many times have I ventured to this parking lot at night and found them already having been closed well before their posted closing time. I have to say this is the best Chinese spot in Vallejo hands down.. staff are always kind and food is always fresh... the place is clean with very quick service... my favorite meal here is the sesame chicken with chow mein.. the portions are super big if I purchase the combo plate it's big enough to feed me for lunch( even with me over eating) and enough left over for dinner or my kids split it.. check it out when you get a chance.. it's one of Vallejo's hidden gems! read more

I got several dishes from here today to taste a variety of what they have. Nothing was overtly bad but there was no seasoning in any of it. Both the fried rice and chow mein were bland. Two chicken dishes, Sesame chicken and Orange chicken, were indistinguishable from each other and without flavor. The egg roll was mushy on the inside, and again, flavorless. The egg foo yung was cooked well but also lacked any seasoning. When craving Chinese "fast food," my go to place is Hop Hing's where I always go for the rice plate with my favorite Basil Chicken. It is spicy enough to give me the heat I'm looking for but not overly hot I can't eat it. That always hits the spot. Their servings are generous, their containers seem to be overful before they close the lids and the ladies behind the counter are friendly and efficient. This place is not stingy! They are sure to give large portions, and their potstickers are to me, in my humble opinion the best in town. I usually get a rice plate of White Rice and Orange Chicken, a side order of potstickers a Rootbeer. The area it's in isn't the safest, but there is plenty of parking! Their prices are low, my Dad orders take-out all the time when the family doesn't want to cook and my Mom who dislikes Chinese Food loves this place. But now hat the prices have sky rocketed to ridiculous prices and the quality of food has plummeted. Tonight I got one of my favorites, Black Pepper Chicken and Teriyaki chicken. This was me and my grandson's first time there and we will not be going there again . The customer service was awful. Before we ordered the server was rude to the two previous customers before us. Then came our turn. We ordered a smoothie. We asked her if they have smoothies and she said yes. I ordered a small container of sweet and sour chicken. Then she said no on the smoothie as the machine was broken. Why would she make us go through a couple of minutes asking about smoothies when all along the machine is broken? This place was disappointing. I was at my local Starbucks a few days ago. A gentleman walked in with a yummy smelling box of asian food! I was drooling the whole time he was eating it, because it smelled and looked so good! Finally, I built up the courage to ask where he got it from. After I left Starbucks I went straight to this place! Walked in, didn't smell as good. Also, it was kind of lonely. Their options aren't many. The price is a little much, considering the taste. They do serve you a little bit more than your regular Panda Express would serve you. But to me, it's not worth it. The food lacked SO much flavor. The rice was dry, and flavorless.
