This is definitely in the Top 3 Sandwich shops in Vallejo. In no particular order Picknicky's, Food Basket, J&O in Hiddenbrooke. I love their Grand Salami Sandwich. Don't mention the Dole Whip, the machine is always broken like this is McDonalds LOL. The sandwiches are generous with the fillings. I come back frequently. Parking is easy. We ordered many sandwiches for a party, and they tasted amazing. My dad went in not long after the part to redeem his free sandwich and they said they were not able to give it as promised. This was a let down considering we used them for catering and then the promise of 1 free sandwich would not be honored. The issue is not the price of a sandwich but the lack of follow thru and the way the issue was handled. More recently I DoorDashed a Mesquite Turkey sandwich from then 30 min to closing. Went here for the first time today. The reviews were questionable but the bad ratings had nothing to do with the food, so I gave it a shot. The interior is chill, clean too, loved the outdoorsy pics along the wall. The men who served me were hella nice. I told them it was my first time and one recommended me the Caveman so I got that and the Italian. Both sandwiches were great, I personally liked the caveman more though, we upgraded 1 sandwich with a combo and the jalapeño heat kettle chips went great with it. The bathroom was clean as well. I will say, I went and it wasn't busy but I could see them getting backed up with a 3 man crew. Just call ahead to check before ordering rather than give them 1 star. I was in the mood for something good to eat and, being new to the area, I turned to Yelp to see what was nearby. I came across this highly rated sandwich shop and decided to stop in after checking out the menu--though it was hard to choose. As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted. The young lady at the front was incredibly helpful, walking me through the menu and pointing out some of the most popular sandwiches, which made my decision much easier. I chose the Sausalito, along with another sandwich whose name I unfortunately forgot--but both were absolutely delicious. I love Picnicky's! They're always consistent and the sandwiches taste fresh. They seem to sell out of things pretty fast, so I would assume that's how popular they are. On the verge of being really good. If not, possibly even greatness. However two major flaws have to be addressed before we can get there. 1). Ordered a hot pastrami sandwich and the bread was literally rock solid. It was almost as if I was eating a sandwich on a crouton. The bread was over toasted and would literally crumble w/ every bite. Nothing worst than eating a sandwich and the bread is hard as a rock, crumbling and tearing up the roof of your mouth. 2) The meat portion was underwhelming. When I think of a pastrami sandwich I envision the "pastrami" being the lead singer, not the backup. The pastrami portion was very small. Although the overall combo of swiss cheeses, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles and garlic spread mixed very well together, there should have been more meat. In 2017, I wrote a positive review about this place. By 2023, I updated it to say the place had gone downhill. For my third review, I returned after a three-year break to give them another shot. The sandwiches are back on point, and the staff was fine. They've won my business back. I would rate this place a five for taste alone. But yesterday I made the mistake of going to order three sandwiches during lunch hour. When I tell you all three sandwiches were incorrect. I was pissed because I was buying them for a food review video, plus it was another person's first experience with them. I called them when I realized my sandwich was wrong. They took my name and phone number and said they would give me another sandwich. But honestly, I'm all the way in Walnut Creek. That's a lot of work for a sandwich. We are out enjoying the day with the kids. Then I find out they messed up everyone's sandwich. I'm not going to drive to Vallejo. Everyone is hungry and has to settle for the incorrect items. This was a recommendation from a native Vallejo resident and with me only have been living in Vallejo 5 years I would have never stopped here however I'm glad we ordered sandwiches Friday afternoon for lunch. Now prices are comparable to most Mom Pop Deli situations literally about $40 from me and my husband to get sandwiches and chips sometimes we paid even more than that but the sandwiches were huge; we both are fairly pleased and couldn't even finish eating like a half. We did feel like it was a lot of bread but I guess that's what sandwiches are...they're not salads. I got the veggie - I think it's called Mr California with avocado it was really really good, the avocado was plentiful with pepper jack cheese, yeah no complaints on the sandwich. On April 13 went to claim my free sandwich credit from picnicky and was denied based on no receipt or telephone record was found. However, I have proof reflecting the purchase on my credit card statement which I tried to present to support my claim that purchased was made at picnicky on March 21 but it was denied too. I wanted to like this place, I really did. We came in to try this spot out because we heard about this place years ago when it opened, but never got to it. The sandwich was decent, they had Dutch crunch. Your not gonna get the corner store city vibes of this sandwich, but it sorta kinda gets the job done, I mean, $15 for a half a foot sandwich? I guess we are in rough times. The downfall? We waited 30-40 minutes for 3 sandwiches. I don't mean to complain, nor am I an expert on what it means run a deli, but I do know that making a sandwich is pretty simple. You slab 1 person who came in, ordered their sandwich 15 minutes after we ordered got their sandwich before us, so that was kind of annoying . The list goes on. I really tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they were understaffed? Who knows? All I know is that as I watched one of the employees make our sandwich, it took her 2 minutes to slab on some lettuce.
