I was in the mood for something good to eat and, being new to the area, I turned to Yelp to see what was nearby. I came across this highly rated sandwich shop and decided to stop in after checking out the menu--though it was hard to choose. As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted. The young lady at the front was incredibly helpful, walking me through the menu and pointing out some of the most popular sandwiches, which made my decision much easier. I chose the Sausalito, along with another sandwich whose name I unfortunately forgot--but both were absolutely delicious. Ordered a hot pastrami sandwich and the bread was literally rock solid. It was almost as if I was eating a sandwich on a crouton. The bread was over toasted and would literally crumble w/ every bite. Nothing worst than eating a sandwich and the bread is hard as a rock, crumbling and tearing up the roof of your mouth. 2) The meat portion was underwhelming. When I think of a pastrami sandwich I envision the "pastrami" being the lead singer, not the backup. The pastrami portion was very small. Although the overall combo of swiss cheeses, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles and garlic spread mixed very well together, there should have been more meat. However, I have proof reflecting the purchase on my credit card statement which I tried to present to support my claim that purchased was made at picnicky on March 21 but it was denied too. I wanted to like this place, I really did. We came in to try this spot out because we heard about this place years ago when it opened, but never got to it. All I know is that as I watched one of the employees make our sandwich, it took her 2 minutes to slab on some lettuce. 10/2/24 was way too hot to cook. so I decided to find a local deli to pick up a sandwich for dinner. It was about 4:40 in the afternoon when I walked into Picnicky's. The store was clean bright and thankfully air conditioned. There were no other customers inside the establishment, and I was greeted promptly by the associate behind the counter. She was very polite and gave me the time I needed to look over the menu to make my decision. I decided on The Vinny, she asked if I wanted to add anything else to the sandwich besides, what comes on it standardly. I asked her to add pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce. She asked if I wanted to add anything else with the sandwich and I decided on a bag of chips she asked if I would like to add a drink to my order which I declined. My order came up to $20.48 with a 15% tip of $3.07. I took my order to go to eat at home. Upon opening my sandwich I found it neatly wrapped and assembled. The Vinny tasted ok but I was a little disappointed in the amount of meat on the sandwich. (See picture for reference). The meat was literally the thickness of a chip from the bag I purchased. If I wouldn't have added the pickles tomatoes and lettuce the sandwich would've been basically bread. For $15.75 I would expect more meat than was on my sandwich. 2 star for food due to lack of meat. 5 Star for the service from the associate behind the counter. read more

Pretty good sandwich, can't say it was great, but it was definitely good. Wish I had asked for salt and pepper, just needed a little something to make it great. The staff super nice, but they did miss that we asked for turkey added to the second sandwich, and because we were on the road couldn't go back. No problem, they were super busy- so it can happen. Located in a strip mall along the Vallejo estuary, Picnicky's Sandwich Shop may be in the most innocuous location that I have ever encountered, but they serve up some of the best sandwiches that I have ever tasted! Yes, these sandwiches are seriously that good! All of the credit must go to owners and founders David and Jessica Moreno who achieved their dream by becoming business owners over eight years ago when they opened on Sonoma Boulevard across from Walmart. After reading an article in the local Vallejo newspaper, I learned that David went back to his plumbing job even after opening Picnicky's because he had a family to support, which only makes me want to support him more, as from what I originally saw from the photos posted by my fellow Yelpers, the sandwiches looked awesome, as there were heartily filled with an abundance of ingredients and sold at a pretty reasonable price point. After finally getting the chance to see Picnicky's for myself on a recent weeknight evening, as I just happened to be in the area, I was not disappointed. Finding their location was pretty simple, and parking along the side of their location was easily accessible. Walking inside was a little odd as there is very little furniture of any kind beyond the abundance of wall decor, as they have an order and pick up counter that has a plastic partition that separates their kitchen area from the rest of the sparse area for customers to mill about. The menu at Picnicky's is quite large for a simple sandwich shop, as they have not one but two different Speciality Sandwich sections of their menu, in addition to a Build-Your-Own Sandwich section and a Hot & Toasty section of their menu. As I approached their counter, I asked their associate what their top selling sandwiches were and she said that two sandwiches from their Specialty section of the menu, the one in which had fun names such as Mr. Lucky and Don Coyote, specifically were their sandwich called The Caveman and The Sausalito respectively. After looking at their menu briefly, I was sold on ordering their Caveman sandwich, which had slices of Roast Beef, Mesquite Turkey, and Pastrami, which equaled to over five ounces of meat, in addition to sliced cheddar, and something that they refer to as everything, which includes mayonnaise, mustard, pickles, red onions, lettuce, tomatoes, hot pepper spread and garlic spread. All of which was served on a sourdough roll. Now that's what I call a massive sandwich, and sold for a reasonable price, at least for this day and age, for $12.50 before tax and tip. After I paid via their iPad reader, I went to take more pictures of their wall decor, my sandwich order was immediately called ready for pick up, as it was created by this mythical force for sandwich supremacy. Once I got home with my takeout bag, I noticed that my sandwich had this heft that only five ounces of meat could contain, and after carefully unwrapping my paper wrapped meal, what I saw was a visually appealing amount of layers of different meats, cheeses, and sliced vegetables. It was a work of art, but in sandwich form, and once I bit into my soft sourdough roll, the taste matched its appearance, as there was a jolt of flavor with every bite. Obviously, I now have my go-to place whenever I am in the mood for a quick sandwich as they have so many options to choose from at Picnicky's that clearly you cannot go wrong with what you select. And with wine country a simple drive up Highway 29, then I now have a much more affordable option to partake in versus that of their competitors closer to the wineries that dot both Napa and Sonoma Valleys respectively. Grabbing a sandwich or two here and enjoying a bottle of freshly opened wine seems like the ultimate North Bay adventure! They are open everyday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. so getting that late night sandwich craving really isn't possible, which is okay as Picnicky's remains a proud locally owned and operated institution that is just getting started. The Moreno's are living up to a saying on their wall that says "Don't follow your dreams; chase them" and we sandwich lovers are lucky enough that at Picnicky's their dreams are still within reach! read more

I did a small catering tray with 16 half sandwiches that was $75. I ordered a classic tray and subbed it for a veggie sandwich instead. Each sandwich had two slices of cheese with a few slices of meat minus the veggie sandwich. Fresh tomatoes and crisp lettuce.You can ask for the mayo, mustard and pickles in the side. I opted for this option because if we didn't finish the sandwiches at least they wouldn't get soggy and people could take it home. This sandwich spot is slightly pricier than subway, but honestly helping a family business is more important to me than the cost. Plus I would go here for the garlic spread when I would go for myself. Bonus points to them because they donate the bread they don't use to the community.
