I recently visited Chowking in Vallejo ordered the Lauriat. Overall, the meal was good and flavorful, and I usually enjoy their food. However, the drumstick chicken I received was undercooked and still had blood inside, which was really disappointing and concerning. Because of that experience, I lost my appetite and couldn't finish my meal. Food safety is really important, so I hope they improve on this. That said I still think some of their menu items are worth trying especially their halo-halo, which is always a favorite and perfectly balanced in sweetness.

I honestly think they're beef soup is underrated. I came in craving some type of noodle soup so I came in the morning. Unfortunately, they were not ready to open at the time stated in the front. Waited in the parking lot, and they finally opened the doors 30 minutes later, which is why I leave out some stars. Overall, it ain't bad for what it is, just wouldn't go out my way for it.

I came in on a Friday afternoon specifically to purchase some siopao (asado), taho and black jelly drink, but saw they offer popcorn chicken (spicy) now, so I decided to try it out too. Prices of food is starting to get expensive and portions are shrinking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There wasn't many people eating here around lunchtime, so it could be due to the prices and small portion size.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was the most disappointed by the popcorn chicken as it was only 9 pieces (McD sized chicken nuggets) of chicken which came in a big container (noodle soup/rice bowl container) which made it look like very small portions. I do like their food, but I minimize eating at a Chow King now due to price and portion size. Personally, I like their siopao and taho, so that is what I mainly come Chow King for now days.

I ordered the 2 entree and the chicken is hard. The sesame balls is not edible. It's chewy. The halo halo not pictured here was good.

Since we were in the neighborhood, we dropped by Chowking for a couple of baos and a drink. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was fairly busy when we walked, there was boisterous group of customers in one corner of the room plus a few more customers here and there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We placed our order at the counter: 3 Asado-flavored steamed bao buns and black jelly drink. The young lady at the register was very efficient and courteous; she processed our orders quickly and we were on our way. The black jelly drink hit the spot; it was cool and refreshing. The steamed buns were very tasty; the dough was super airy and pork filling was absolutely delicious. I regret not purchasing more to take home; oh well, maybe next time. Overall, we had a positive experience: the service was good and food was great!

To start off, I'm only reviewing their taho dessert offering and nothing else. The reason is, I hardly ever eat fast food. However, this place serves taho, a quintessentially Filipino dessert, a uniquely delicious sweet treat from the Philippines made with silken tofu and chewy tapioca pearls mixed with a rich brown sugar syrup. It's a classic. I don't know too many places where it's served, but it's a standard item on the menu and I go there just for the taho. I didn't grow up in the Philippines, but in the five years of childhood living there, it's one of the few things I remember from the motherland, especially visual of the taho man balancing a bar on his shoulder with two large containers of the ingredients while barking in the streets. I suppose it isn't just the treat I remember fondly and crave, but also of a warm cultural reminiscence. And so, Chowking serves this deliciousness with remarkable consistency in quality as I've had it over the years. I'm grateful to have a go-to place for taho.

First time order. Bundle 1 supposed to have 6 pcs chicken, 6 buchi, 3 rice, 3 drinks. They sent 5 pcs chicken, zero buchi and 5 lumpia that was not ordered. No sauce (paid $0.15 for recommended sauce). Food was inedible. Chicken was deceptively crispy because it was basically dehydrated. Chicken dried out to the point it was like that movie "Survive" about the Brazilian soccer team crashes plane in the snowy Andes Mountains and they have to cannibalize their dead teammates. The chicken was as dried out as the frozen cadavers they had to scrape strips of freeze dried flesh off the bones and gnaw on little strips of dried people. That's how dry it was. Chicken jerky. Rice was barely warm. Never again. TO MARIA D. that replied to this review, I tried to access your website contact form but you force me to insert an order number which your system won't accept. I don't have a receipt from your store I ordered thru GrubHub and their order numbers are not accepted in your form. So I can't contact you "personally" as requested.

Filipino breakfast hits the spot - so yummy. I ordered the 2 entree breakfast with Bangus and Tocino. Super yummy! Don't forget to ask for vinegar. Customer service needs improvement. Maybe eye contact and friendliness would be nice, and attentiveness too. He was taking my order but looking the other way. I wasn't sure if he was listening to me or not. Service is slow for a fast food establishment. Other than that, we had a decent experience. There's plenty of indoor seating and the dining room was fairly clean.

Came here for lunch after shopping at Seafood City. Came at a good time, there was no line and we didn't have to wait long at all for our order. We ordered beef mami, chicken mami and two beef siopao. Orders came out within a few minutes. The siopao was delicious - hot and tasty. Hubby would've loved more egg, but I can do without it. The soup broth was delicious, not overly salty. Noodles were cooked well but we both could've ate more noodles in the soup. Hubby liked his beef mami. For me --- where's the chicken?!!!! I didn't see any chicken pieces until I looked closer and realized it was in tiny little bits. Almost looked "freeze dried" and then warmed up in the broth, haha! I think I'll order the beef mami next time. The place was decent. Wish they would clean the tables often. Every time we eat there, most of the tables are dirty. Other than the occasional fly(ies), we liked our meals.

Well, let's see...the best thing was the steamed rice and the Diet Pepsi. If you love over cooked chicken that has almost no meat left, then this place is perfect for you. Instead of the sesame balls we ordered, we got lumpia. Given the greasy, extremely over cooked, sad excuse for fried chicken that they delivered, I would not risk ordering from here again. Stopped by to get those siopao asado and Buchi's. There was a short line but then after I ordered the line got longer. Service here was so slow. Only 1 staff attending the register and also making the drinks. The wait was almost 30 minutes. The customers who lined up after my order were given their orders ahead.... I asked if my order were the ones on the counter, the rude staff abruptly said she was just going to bag them and I still had to wait till she finished what she was doing. This location is so under staffed but then they don't have to be rude just because. I got 6 pcs of Siopao but was only given 5 sauce packets. I asked for more of the sauce and was told there's a charge of $0.11 a packet. Really???? So I inquired how msny do I get For a $1???? I got 9 packets !!!!!

Where's da brocolli? I had to dig- This was not eaten yet :(

11/04/24- With rising costs of food, I do believe that the quality should not be compromised. Went here and got pancit canton, siopao, black jelly and beef brocolli bowl. First off, the bowl is not even in a bowl. The beef brocolli has only one piece of brocolli and the rest were meat. Yes, they do advertised "more meat", but it's called brocolli beef, so where's the brocolli. The black jelly has a slight bitterness to it. It shouldn't be. Paid 24.83 for some mediocre food. The fountain drinks- there are times the homeless will just go inside and refill whatever cups they have. That's a big No No. Very unsanitary. They should not allow that in the first place.

Service is always usually fast, especially during COVID. But one particular time I ordered the beef wonton soup to go which comes in 2 different containers, one with the broth and another with everything that goes in the soup (noodles, meat, wontons, etc). Well instead of giving me the set, I received two of just the things that go into the soup. When I got home we just used hot water which didn't have the broth feel. So I recommend checking your order before you leave. read more

I've been coming to this place for a while now and each time they never fail to disappoint. The staff are always super friendly. The food is made fresh and is delicious every time. I ordered the beef wonton with siopai, and 4 pieces saomai. Flavor was good, but I barely got any meat or wonton in my soup. There really wasn't much of of anything, tbh. I transfered everything into a ramen bowl when I got home and it was barley filled half way. Everything else was fine. The reason for the 2 stars, however, is because the food gave me bubble guts. read more

Hubby and I decided to come and try the halo halo here since it was so hot the other day. They only took cash that day and thankfully we actually had some on us. When we walked in, we saw there were a few folks all ready enjoying their halo halo while we waited for ours to be served. They came pretty quickly. It was easy to mix up the stuff and it hit the spot especially on a hot day. While we were eating our, we saw four more people ordering the same exact thing! Looks like we all had the same idea for staying cool. I know they have lots of food here and I have eaten and liked the price and portions they serve. The congee here is pretty good especially in the winter or when you are sick. read more

Probably the most worthless $5.40 I have spent on a bowl of noodle soup. Ordered the chicken mami and basically a bowl of broth with noodles. It does not taste good, chicken pieces look scary. Hard boil eggs were just that. Better getting a cup of noodles from the store. Service was good. read more

Order food here in chowking sonoma. We got our right order. But when we ask for cup of water we got this sauce container which they said it was a cup of water? I ask them if they were serious and they said yes. I was shock to think how cheap they can be just to budget the cup. Plus when I got the order Halo halo. People who eat this knew that it should have a lot of stuff on it. But I barely ate some of it. It mostly contain shaved ice. First time here but I would not recommend people to come back here. I am pretty sure a lot of people were disappointed on this place already including me. read more

Cannot believe how much this place has changed in the last 4 years but, my god, if you want to stand in a sewage, this is the place for you. Literally, as you open their doors, you get a whiff of discharged waste and urine. The smell was both pungent and vile. I was wanting to puke just from standing in that funk, while looking over their menu. I left within a few minutes, not ordering any food, because if they aren't concerned about the smell or keeping their establishment clean, then their food prep must be as bad or worse. They need to address this before it becomes a huge health hazard. read more

The food portion had dramatically reduced. Both quality and portion. The prices went up 2-3 dollars more. The veggies on the pancit canton like leftovers. Packaging is third class. I used to like chow king a lot but seems management changed in this area so the food is sloppy. I will find another place to order. I would not recommend this place to my friends. Sorry read more

Such a low quality of food, at such high prices. I ordered the congee/lugao. Needs more rice. Needs more flavor. I put all of the soy sauce in it, and it still needed more. I wish they had provided some hot sauce. It would have helped a little. I also had to order some fried tofu with it. Didn't really help much. I felt so cheated. I won't be back. And you should avoid this disaster as well. read more

I really only came here to try the halo halo, but I was not impressed. The flavor was good but they were really stingy with the ingredients. There was barely any ice cream in there and only a few jellies, and a whole lotta crushed ice. The siopao was soft and fluffy but nothing special. I may go back to try other items on the menu. read more

The young, Filipina ladies (Babaes) who served me were very nice and very polite; however, the meaty wontons they served me were minuscule and very few but, the wontons I did eat were flavorful. Actually, you need a microscope trying to find the wontons swimming in the noodle broth! I only found three wontons in the entire bowl; realizing the wontons shortage, it made me very sad. Oh, I forgot mentioning, I added the Tapsilog I bought at Seafood Market to the meaty wonton soup and it absolutely saved the wonton soup from being an utter, devastating disappointment. read more

For a fast food it is not bad but not the greatest either. There are neighboring Filipino restaurants a few feet away with a sit down meal and for a few more dollars it can provide you a better experience and much more selections and get more for your money! Most of the foods here are measured and portions are small but enough to say "okay -- a little pricey for a fast food but not a rip off!" I wouldn't recommend taking big groups here as $7 to $8+ and up per meal per person can get pricey as most does not even include drinks! They do have special combo with 1 chicken, rice and 1 other side dish of your choice for $5.99 + for $1.00 more you get a discounted drink (soda/tea). Not too bad! I ordered the "BANGUS" which is a deep fried milk fish boneless with garlic and vinegar sauce which came with 1 egg and for an additional price, you can make it 2 eggs combo meal with garlic rice. My Halo-Halo which is made from crushed ice with evaporated milk along with tropical fruits with Taro ice cream was about $4.50. I will say their Halo-Halo here is very good - better than most that I've had considering they are a fast food restaurant. All in all, I think if you are looking for a Filipino food that is fast, quick and easy meal in and out... try eating at Chowking! read more

I love coming to this place for one particular one item that I get some cravings @ times. Taho with Boba. (Tofu drink with Tapioca). I was here first week of April during COVID19. My favorite place to go for the obligatory Halo Halo However, this location wasn't as nice or "fun" like it's other stores in Washington. I always go for the pancit palabok. I'm not a great dark meat fan and that's what they seem to serve a lot of here. The seating is limited and small and we sat in the direct path of the line to order. Definitely place to go for a quick fix. read more

I really don't know what to make this place even here once or twice. And I don't want to lie to you and say that it wasn't by mistake but it was by mistake that ended up at this establishment. But now it's become one of my favorite places to eat at when I find it. I think that's all because of the Siopao asado. Here's something you may not understand but in Asian culture there are pork buns and you're also spring rolls and egg rolls. In Filipino culture there is also no exception we have lumpia and we also have Siopao! And because of Chow King I have continued to be addicted to those Delicacies of half of my culture. Not to mention I love their beef Ramen soup. Aunt if I have a little extra I might get a couple of pieces of fried chicken tenders.... And party like. The chubby kid I am. read more

Anytime I'm about to grab some grub at any fast food joint of course there are some certain elements of human expectations. Number One: Don't go looking for your mom's home cooked meal. I like their Boneless Bangus and Tapa, their Siopao, their Lomi Soup and Their Chicken with rice. The place is more of a Fast-food setup. The staffs are Very attentive and always smiles. If you don't like soda or Juice and just like to have a Plain water. They have clean filtered water available all the time. Don't take my word for it Try them, they're good. read more

I kinda squirm when I give 1 star reviews. I just hate to do that because I feel a little guilt like im trying to hate, but this is the reason why we have yelp right? To voice our opinions to who will ever listen to us. I consider myself a nice guy and do not seek to ruin any business reputation. With that being said.....I think the food is not good at all. Ive been here 3 times actually because I would like to give it a chance but alas im tired and beat up like rocky in rocky 4 when he was all bloodied with both eyes puffy fighting against Drago. Things ive tried here were some of the combo plates like fried chicken, shumai, and pancit. Breakfasts combos with Tapa, Longanisa, and garlic rice. For dessert and boba ive tried Buko pandan, ube, and the Halo Halo. Now I don't have high expectations when it comes to Filipino fast food but I do have some measure of expectation that it has to be at least adequate. Everything I tried was either oily and full of msg or dried out. The garlic rice wasn't even real garlic rice. It was regular rice with bits of toasted garlic garnished on top. I truly don't understand why this restaurant doesn't receive 5-star reviews from its customers. I've dined here multiple times, and each visit leaves me more impressed than the last. There is an option that's a little cheaper that comes with white rice, or one that's a few dollars more that comes with two entrees. I like the chow mein, the teriyaki chicken, and the string bean chicken. If you go the teriyaki route it also comes with teriyaki sauce. I always ask for soy sauce and hot chili oil out of habit, but I rarely end up needing the soy sauce - I say that as a good thing. My review is based on those items I mentioned, I haven't tried anything else other than the occasional spring roll. I get my food to-go, no complaints on customer service from me. They'll let you try something before you order it so don't be afraid to ask. The closer to opening / mid-day the better to avoid getting food that's been sitting out for a while. If they're out of something and it's close to closing time, they probably aren't making more of it. Sometimes they close earlier than their advertised hours. The following doesn't factor into my rating, but it is something to keep in mind: the Chinese food in Vallejo is all pretty equally yoked. Comparatively speaking, the food taste/quality you get here is probably equal to (and in some cases better than) other options in town at a better price point.
