Great place if you are looking for high quality sushi to-go. I got a 10 piece sushi set right before they closed on the weekend. The presentation is beautiful, and I enjoyed most of the combinations. The price is a little steep for the amount of food, but you can tell that a lot of thought and care was put into the creation of the boxes. I would however recommend going right when they open rather than later. My sushi wasn't the freshest since it was the end of their hours.

I've had this place bookmarked for over three years, and I was finally able to come try it! We arrived at 10:20 am Saturday (opens 10:30 am), and there were around 20 people in front of us. However, they do a great job of crowd control, and the line moved quite fast. It took us around 20 minutes to make it inside. While it is quite small inside, there is some seating. My friends and I got a bunch of different sandos and sushi. The sandos were amazing with their different sauces! All of the fish was super fresh, and the flavors were so good! Each sushi box came with a miso soup, seaweed sheets, and a homemade bottle of soy sauce with ginger and wasabi. It was definitely worth the wait and money, and I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in Austin!

We came in around noon on a Thursday and unfortunately a lot of items were already sold out, which was a bit of a bummer. We ended up getting the chicken katsu sandwich, and the worker recommended adding the mustard which was a great call. The sandwich was really tasty overall, though I do wish we had come earlier because the bread didn't feel as fresh as it probably is earlier in the day. We also tried a sushi roll with truffle. It was very good, but definitely heavy on the truffle, so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to strong flavors. Overall, solid food and friendly staff. I'd just recommend coming earlier in the day for the best selection and freshest experience.

Togo experience. Order this online for pickup and they held onto it for me even though I was quite late because Im not from town. Staff was kind and had the togo items ready. This was $43 total. I wouldnt get this specific item again unless I was sharing with someone. It was actually so delicious. Not fishy at all. I would definitely get something smaller next time i go.

I preordered a few items a week before New Year's Eve for pick up NYE. Honestly the best decision ever because it made our NYE so memorable. No waiting in line and ensure I get all the goodies we want. Select the time for pick up, checkout, and boom done in less than 5 mins. My pick up time was 12pm and when I got there, there was like maybe 10 of fruit sando and pork Sando left. The display was bare but I knew that was going to be the case so I am so happy I preordered! I got all of our favorites: 10 piece nigiris: $36 5/5 top notch quality and honestly the value is super fair. I see ppl reviews saying it's expensive but if you go to any sushi restaurant and got 10 nigiris it would cost you the same and/or more. If you are comparing all you can eat sushi, the quality is subpar and you are getting what you are paying for. I notice this 10 piece nigiri had a king salmon with truffle and like wow!! It was so good! I love that they changed it up a little for a nice little surprise than the norm. Come with soup. Spicy Tuna & Sake Don: $21 5/5 consistently the same top quality! Comes with soup and seaweed. Sake Don: $27 5/5 I am a salmon lover and this is my first time trying this one. Salmon was super yummy! Definitely hit the spot. I usually get the spicy scallop and Sake don but notice these past two times I've gotten it, the scallops are not the same as the original ones I've gotten. The scallops are small tiny ones now and the taste is simply not the same as the first time I've had it. I'm not a fan of the tiny scallops they not use. You can't waste the scallops anymore so that's why I got the Sake Don which I am glad I try something new. Comes with soup and seaweed. Katsu Sando: $14.50 5/5 still the best pork katsu I've had. The homemade house sauce is what makes it. If you want the sandwich to be crispy then come early to pick up to enjoy it. If you come later in the day, what ever they make in the morning is what's available there. They usually sell out of all items every day because they are that awesome. Truffle Katsu Sando: 5/5 $16.50 like WOW! Pork katsu is juicy paired with the truffle was such a stellar explosion of flavor in your mouth! Eating it with the in house made sauce katsu is a must. That is what makes this katsu special. I love that that bread is not thick because you get to enjoy the katsu which is the star of the Sando. Bread is soft and cabbage salad in between made it refreshing and not heavy feeling. Do I recommend Choo Sando? Absolutely ! When I came to Choo Sando, I witness a customer coming in past 12pm and complaining to the cashier why there was no more items left and just giving the staff a hard time.......Also I notice as I scroll and read reviews about the long lines (that go quick) and not getting what you want...There is an option to PREORDER and support the business. I think it's unfair to fault the business for inventory and underrate them when they give you the option to get what you want by preordering a head of time on their website. It is that simple. Don't go into the established and throw a tantrum about them almost selling out. Respect that's their business model and preorder. Zero food waste. Business is sustainable for long term and consumers to enjoy.

Was super excited to try this place. I got the spicy chicken sando. Flavor wise it was good with juicy chicken and soft bread. But it was not fresh. It was just sitting in the fridge and you can definitely tell the difference. I wish they made them fresh throughout the day but they only serve them once in the morning and I came around 1:30 pm. If you want the best experience, definitely go right when they open. The sandwich has potential but freshness makes a huge difference

Choo Sando did not disappoint! The truffle hamachi roll was DELICIOUS, the truffle flavor really shined! I also tried the fried fish sando, the mustard sauce was my favorite.

Best sushi in Austin. So fresh and very good price. I've been wanting to try this place since I saw on ATX food FB community talked about it. I will definitely be back to try different combo!

Chef Choo offers grab-and-go sushi boxes that are as beautiful as they are delicious--honestly, they could be served at any fine Japanese dining establishment. The sushi is always fresh, generously cut, and reasonably priced . They also offer Japanese sandos (sandwiches) for those who prefer something other than sushi. The only downside is the wait--you'll likely need to line up even on weekdays. We usually arrive about 15 minutes before opening since the shop is quite small, with just one narrow line for pickup and a single checkout. That said, once you're inside, the line moves fairly quickly. All in all, we always enjoy the food here and love coming back--especially when we plan ahead and prepare for the wait!

This is my 2nd time at Choo and I got here before they opened (learned from my last visit that this is how you get your pick of anything on the menu without an online order). Got to try their sushi and it is WONDERFUL! Lots of options for all palettes. I also got the sando sampler which was good as well. Minus 1 star because the uni wasn't quite up to the quality as the rest of the sushi, and while the egg sando was good, don't think that it compares to an actual Japanese convenience store one. BUT these are still great and worth a visit!

Wow Choo Sando is INCREDIBLE. My roommate picked these up for lunch on a work day and wow it was amazing. Fish was SO fresh and so much food. The strawberry sandwich was also unbelievable. Worth the hype & worth the cost - go try it and thank me later!!!!

Truffle katsu sando ($16)-- great for truffle lovers
    Wendy T.

Definitely preorder online or go early to snag your food! I picked up a pre-order in the afternoon an hour before closing, and they were completely sold out. While we sat down and ate, I felt like the staff were itching to close shop and leave... which made the experience feel a little uncomfortable. But the food was beautiful and seemed crafted with love, and the packaging was neat and tidy. The order came with miso soup. There is also a self serve water / sauce / utensils area as well. ** Sando itchi sampler box: favorites were the bulgogi beef (in the form of a thick meat patty) and the tamago (Japanese egg salad), with the first being flavorful and hearty and the latter being creamy and mild in flavor. The others actually tasted pretty similar, with the exception of the miso salmon. I personally don't like goat cheese (no modifications allowed), but MT enjoyed it more. The bread wasn't soft like milk bread but maybe that was because we picked up our order at the end of the day. We also ended up using their homemade sauces for each bite for some extra flavor. ** Truffle pork sando: definitely for die-hard truffle fans! Fragrant and tasted of lots of truffle. The meat was thick but not too dry (yay katsu sauce). ** Sushi: I loved how a printed description of each fish came with the sampler box. Each piece had a little flavor topping so I didn't really need the soy sauce-- tasty and fresh! But the rice was a cold and on the hard side, so maybe these are meant to be eaten after sitting out fora little longer? I would order just sashimi instead of nigiri in the future. It was nice to try and support a local business. If I lived in the area, it would be great to snag one of their smaller variety sando boxes in the morning for an easy and filling meal, but I probably wont be pre-ordering again. Give them a try!

I saw this place recommended on TikTok, and I was excited to try! I arrived at 11 AM on a Saturday. They open at 10:30 AM and they close whenever they sell out. When I arrived, there were eight people in front of me. I waited about 10 minutes until I was able to get to the store. Inside, there is bar seating, and a few small tables. All of the sandos and bentos are so aesthetic! I got two sandos, the ebi and the beef truffle. If you want to try a variety of sandaos, check the very left side of the display, near the check out. Here you will find some of their mixed sando boxes, where you can get three different flavors in one box. The sandos range from $14 to around $20. Some of their specialty sandos, such as the beef truffle flavor, aren't in their mixed sand boxes. The service was very nice! The employee recommended the homemade Katsu sauce to pair with the truffle sando. I also like how they have a water filter machine and to-go containers prepared for the sauces. The sandos were delicious! The bread did not get soggy, even after I ate some leftovers the next day. I liked the truffle one more. I thought I had a more unique flavor than the ebi/shrimp. The ebi is a shrimp katsu breaded in panko. For the truffle, I liked the Katsu sauce that the employee recommended. It helped cut down the richness and oiliness from the truffle flavor. There's a sign inside that says their sandwiches are good to be at room temperature for 72 hours. You can reheat with the microwave or a toaster oven. Or just eat them from the fridge the next day. This is a great not so hidden gem in Austin, I will definitely be coming back again!

The menu seemed to have changed a bit from last year, but looked substantially the same. We were able to call that day to check for availability and were able to walk in and get a seat for 3 at the hibachi table and didn't have to wait too long to get our orders in and eat. We enjoyed the entertainment the chef provided! We sometimes weren't clear who our server was so it took us a bit to flag the right person down to take a drink order. We ordered chicken, shrimp, steak, and salmon dish options. I had a hot sake too. I liked the onion type soup with mushrooms they offered this year as I'm not generally a fan of traditional miso soup. The place was nicely decorated and we enjoyed the annual experience of eating Japanese hibachi on Christmas Day! I'm sure we will be back again next year!

When we finally sat down at a regular table, we waited about 15 minutes without a server coming by. I eventually flagged a server down, and we got our order under way. We requested the manager stop by to tell him about the issue with the reservation and the fact that his hostess needs additional training, and surprise, the manager was also not helpful. He did apologize for our reservation being lost, but blamed it on the system and denied any responsibility for taking care of it - basically just told us that "life is life". He did not offer a discount or any kind of relief for the setbacks or bad service. I wasn't expecting the world or anything, but good hospitality dictates that you do more that basically tell us to just deal with it. For the food: the sushi was pretty gnarly - it looked like somebody was angry at the fish when they were slicing. Most things needed salt. Steak and fried rice was good, but the vegetables were pretty much raw. I can forgive quite a bit when it comes to service, especially on graduation/mother's day weekend. But honestly I'm a little impressed at how little the entire staff cared about their guests.

For roughly $60 the wife was full and we had roughly 6 dishes and one cocktail (I was still slightly hungry). Think of it as more of a tapas style ordering. Soft shelled crab - My absolute favorite and by far the best dish! Crispy from the breading, soft shell and subtle crab taste, and to top it off the fried egg adds some creaminess from the yolk. Not greasy at all due to the way it's fried. And who doesn't like a little microgreen to add some freshness to it?! It could likely use a little more salt, and this particular time the yolk was a overcooked. Sushi Tacos - 2nd favorite! You get two, and frankly I prefer not sharing these (although my wife forced me to). It's such a unique dish. Each taco is palm sized. They take a yummy piece of laver (seaweed), coat one side and deep fry it to make a nice hard shell taco casing. Then they fill it with sushi rice, top it with plentiful tuna, add a slice of avocado, and top it with micro greens. Refreshing, light (once you squeeze the tiny lime on top), slightly filling due to the rice, and absolutely delicious. Takoyaki - I'm not a fan, but the wife is. For me it's a texture thing. Even when visiting Japan I didn't enjoy this dish. Honestly though I do think it deserves far more bonito flakes, as the dish is meant to look alive from the waving flakes. Honestly we love this place so much, I always get engrossed in the food so much I forget to take pics.
