Today was my third time coming to Ace donut, I've given it three chances on the ham and cheese croissant but it disappoints every time. The croissant it's self has maybe two bites of ham and cheese (If you're lucky). The first time I went it was early when they first opened so I expected everything to be fresh. I noticed one blue berry muffin left but little did I know it was from the day before if not two days before. That muffin was the most stale thing I've ever tasted, I had one bite and threw it away. However with both of these disappointments I must say the donuts were super fresh and amazing all three times. They definitely aced the donut but just the donut. I have been going to this place for about a year and only because it's convenient for me to stop before going to work!... they charge additional fee for using credit card... which is not cool but I can understand why... but yesterday when I stopped by to pickup half dozen of donuts, by the way I always buy half dozen for my office. The donuts are solid here! Freshly made everyday and the apple fritter is one of my favorites! The negative reviewers about the $0.50 charge for a box should get over yourselves. I've shopped this part of Irvine many times. But I've never got to see if this place is the Ace of Donuts, because it's closed at the later part of the day. When I got here on a Sunday morning, I noticed people ahead of me liked their donut holes and they buy them in bunches. Me? that sounds boring I want out of the ordinary, something other than your traditional style or flavors. Cool, they have Maple Bacon Donuts. I could tell it's made fresh because the bacon toppings weren't too dry, they were chewy and of course the maple glaze is sugary and sweet. It's not gourmet quality but to do away sugar glazed, donut holes and the apple fritters, this one is a decent choice. I've paid around a total of $12 with my Maple Donut, an Mocha Iced Coffee (it's wasn't the best, but this flavor complimented the experience). The wife's Strawberry Cream Filled Donut, and a small black coffee. Everything tasted okay and the prices seem to be on point. The staff workers are friendly and I noticed they mention customers by name for those who come here often. They have a decent selection of donuts to chose from. If you're a local at this part of Irvine, Ace Donuts maybe your only option for quick comfort donuts and coffee. Indeed, this place is easily ignored if you don't catch them open during morning hours, but at least you get only fresh donuts. read more

The reason they got to starts only is because every time I came in here the smell of their cleaning products are so strong I can't even stay and sit to drink coffee. Finally made my way to try Ace donuts today and unfortunately there wasn't anything special about the store or the donuts. While the selection was pretty good (oddly no yeasted sprinkle donuts ) none of them blew me away. The yeasted donuts weren't as fluffy as I would hope, and the maple cake donut left a film on my mouth. Also, in this day and age, I find it strange when places put a minimum charge ($10.00 here) to use a card. Did not have the best first time experience here. I bought two ham & cheese croissants. They were delicious despite the fact that they smelled like cleaning product. The whole place seemed to have just been cleaned. My boyfriend let them know and we're kind enough to give him another croissant except it still smelled like cleaning product. We tried really hard to enjoy them as they did taste good! My second time going was actually just to purchase a pink donut box for a gift I was putting together. I came to buy 7 donuts and was told that I have to pay 50 cents to put the donuts in a box. Otherwise, they would put them in a bag, which would make them all stick together. I have never heard of this before, and I have been coming here for years. Unless, they have been charging that fee all this time and not telling anyone. It is not the money, it's the principle. After a number of disappointing experiences at Donut Star (Irvine Blvd. and Culver) where they had run out of nearly every type of donut even fairly early in the morning, I have had to switch my allegiance to Ace Donut. While their blueberry cake donut is not as good, the yeast donuts are fluffy and the old fashioned have that rich, rustic flavor. They also have specialty donuts such as a yeast donut split in half and filled with cream and fresh strawberries. If they don't have one in the display case just ask and they can make one up for you in a couple minutes. Ace is a little more expensive than at Donut Star, but it's worth it to know that they'll have the donut selection you want rather than coming home sad and empty handed. read more

Showed up at 3:59 am because a couple of friends and I wanted donuts on our way to Vegas. It clearly says it opens at 4:00 am but even after 4:05 am, the lights weren't on and the worker in the back was doing stuff. He saw us but ignores us, closes his curtain so we can't see him, and continues to do whatever he was doing in the back. Not once did he come out and tell us why they are opening late. So we called them, and he says "the person who opens the shop is on his way so wait until 4:10-4:15 am. We waited until 4:23 am and nobody came. It was very unprofessional and rude. My mom brought a couple doughnuts home sometime last week from here and they weren't that great. The inside of a regular glazed was too airy and didn't have much substance.. and the glaze was messed up, it wasn't smoothed out or anything. Working in Irvine there are not many places open @ 5am Sunday morning. I decide to stop here on the morning commute. The whole plaza seems to be under construction but the business are still open. The display of donuts were fully stock and seems that no one has stopped by just yet. I got the Ham N Cheese Crossiant: The ham was dry and cheese did not melt when i heated back up at work. It tasted like left over Ham N Cheese from the day before. This is probably the 2nd time that has happen to me at this location. Steer away from this place, there is a Dennys down the same street for a Hot breakfast or Hot n Fresh Bagels in the same plaza called East Coast Bagels. Came here for the breakfast of champions, coffee and donuts. I can't say I felt like much of a champion while leaving though.. the iced coffee comes from a machine. It tastes absolutely nothing like coffee and was an overly-sweetened french vanilla nightmare. I also got a chocolate glazed donut which was good but nothing to write home about. I first started going here about three months ago for their amazing donut holes. The guy owner quickly remembered my name and my usual order after going there for the first few weeks, which was very welcoming. One day I came in for for my usual donut holes, but they were all out so the wife of the owner politely gave me their business card. She recommended me to call in my order ahead of time so they can hold a donut holes for me. They always run out of donut holes by 9:00 a.m. everyday so I usually call in right when I wake up, which is usually around 8:00 a.m. Additionally, every time I do call in to place a order of donut holes, the owner ALWAYS recognizes my order and never asks for my name because he knows it's me. Maybe I'm the only customer who calls in for donut holes, but it's still very nice and welcoming. This will always be my favorite donut place to eat! read more

Their donuts taste different everyday! Some times they're ok but today the chocolate donuts had dark chocolate on them! I hate dark chocolate and I don't think donuts should have dark chocolate on them unless it's said so. I needed a quick donut fix attending a sporing event at Irvine High School. Yelp and Google directed me to the vicinity, but I got lost in the giant parking lot! Ace Donut is north facing, so I missed it driving into the parking lot, it's tucked in next to the Habit. Ace is neat and clean and the service is quick and friendly. Bought five pieces for $4.85.We always like plain cake donuts, and maple bars. These were pretty good, but the overall texture was hard. My family and I always joke about this place. Not because of their food, but because of one of the owners. When my mom, brother, and I walked in a while ago (this is when I was probably 10 years old), we ordered our stuff. The lady started a conversation with us. Probably because the owners are Asian and my mom, being Asian and having two little Hapa kids with her piqued the lady's interest. During the course of the short conversation the lady look at both me and my brother. Then, because of her heavy accent, we weren't able to distinguish what she said. She looked at both me and my brother, then pointed at me and said one of the two statements: "He's better" OR "He's fatter" We all had a bewildered look on our face. To this day we don't know which she said, but always bust up laughing when we go here or drive past it. Oh, that and I feel fat whenever I walk in here. Anyways, they have great donuts here and decent coffee as well. When we get donuts, its usually from this location - its been there forever, the people working there are friendly, and its busy in the morning with people who enjoy good donuts. Buy donuts in Irvine, expect to pay Irvine prices. I bought a dozen of donuts, they price by individual, so unless you're really know what you're picking, it can add up. They give you a $1 off when you buy a dozen but my dozen of donuts still costs $9.20! Pretty expensive in my books. Taste-wise, they're not too bad. I was impressed with their social distancing protocols until I got my coffee and proceeded to use the sugar canister, cardboard holder, napkins and swivel sticks stored in an open cup. I get to my car and start drinking my coffee and eating my donut when I realized I could have infected myself 4 different ways in just the 3 minutes it took me to get what I wanted. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars...I visited this store because so many neighbors on Nextdoor recommended this place and I love to support local businesses. The worker did not have a mask on or wear any gloves. As she was boxing up my donuts, she started coughing and covered her mouth with her ungloved hand. Then she continued on packing up my donuts without washing her hands. ESPECIALLY during these times, I asked her to either wash her hands or glove up and box up new donuts that she did not contaminate. She put the donuts BACK in the case and tried to give me new ones. At that point, I was very disgusted and told her I will be getting donuts elsewhere that practices proper hygiene. Definitely will not be visiting this place again...Hopefully the owner sees this and makes some changes. read more

I always come here in the morning for some coffee and a ham and cheese croissant. Not too shabby. Make sure to warm the croissant in the microwave to the right of the store. Its so much better that way. The coffee is decent. In the beginning the staff looked a bit grumpy but I think they just seem that way. After a couple of runs, they proved to be much more friendly.
