I don't get it. Is this the same Donut Star chain as the one off of Alton in Irvine? If it is, it does not have the same quality or offerings. The donuts here do not taste fresh. They taste like they've been there overnight or sitting out all day. Compared to the donuts from the Alton location, this place is sad. There are far fewer choices at this location. They don't offer cronut holes like the other location. I don't even think they make any donuts fresh on site. I don't know why anyone would come unless you live around here as there are no other donut shops around. I'm not a fan of this place and recommend going to the Alton location instead. read more

Northwood location review - Came in early in the am for 6 dozen donuts and the gentleman that waited on me was super annoyed I ordered that many donuts. If I didn't need to get to work early, I would've left and went to another donut store. Our workplace wants to support local shops but after this experience perhaps going back to Dunkin Donuts might not be a bad idea. The donuts themselves are good. Shame on me for being lazy. I needed to get about 3 dozen donuts for my kid's class party and since I haven't had a donut in eons, I took on the onerous task of tasting donuts from a few places in the area to see which place had the best goods. I tried the Donut Star in Irvine which was good, but I liked DK's in Tustin the best because the donut didn't have that overly oily or greasy taste - it was perfectly light and airy and not overly sweet. Buuut, after running around the morning of the party getting last minute items I figured, eh, what the hell, just get Donut Star instead since I had to stop by a store in the same shopping center there. I called ahead to make sure they'd have 3 dozen glazed donuts available and they said yes, they even provide a discount for larger orders. When I went to pick up the donuts I noticed that I didn't get the discount advertised and asked about it only to be told that you have to place the order at least 24 hours in advance to get the discount. Okkurr, didn't mention that on the phone. In fact, why say you offer a discount if you know it's not going to apply? But more than that, the 2 stars is because the donuts were pretty lackluster and the glaze was overly sweet. In fact, in a room full of kids, several of them only ate a fraction of the donut and commented that it was too sweet to finish. If you're going in just to pick up a donut or two, make sure you go early. When I arrived mid-morning the display case was almost entirely empty. As in, maybe a total of 10-12 donuts left in total. I live across the street from Donut Star, and after coming here a few times..this is my go-to donut shop. Their donuts are always fresh and of course there are more options the earlier you come. It's a nice place to sit and eat if you've got the time, there are some tables inside and right outside the door. The Latina women are always sweet and I've been helped my an Asian man who is also very nice. I prefer grabbing food or coffee here rather than Champagne a few doors down, they are way overpriced for okay food. read more

This review is for the croissants only. Very solid croissant for a donut shop. Lots of donut shops have decent croissants if you're in a pinch though! The croissant here is good for many reasons. 1. Its HUGE 2. Crispy on the outside and soft inside 3. Its not trying to be fancy, its just trying to be good...and good it is. 4. Consistency isn't super croissant like inside...its flaky...but in a way that a biscuit is flaky...a little more dense than your normal croissant I guess this is more like a biscuit croissant than a croissant...but seriously, there is nothing wrong with that, its so delicious! Donut star is even better than the other donut bakeries in my home town and state.This morning I went there with my relatives for a nice treat and when we got our donuts it looked so delicious that I could have this all day. Love this place! Went in for donuts this morning, it was not to busy! I came in specifically for apple fritters/donuts. Then I saw they have Crossants. so I asked for a ham and cheese, and they guy behind the counter says good morning to my husband, I'm sure noticing that he's mexican..
