I'm a Long Beach dad who frequents this area for my son's sporting events. My son loves the array of sandwiches and donuts available here and its close proximity to all baseball and football facilities. Plenty of parking spots are available along with seating and additional shopping as well. The vibe outside is meh.... Because it's the OC so absolutely no one will strike up a conversation with strangers because it's Orange County. It's impossible for the residences to learn something like that here. This Donut Star location continues to be my favorite place for donut holes. I love their regular glazed and croutons donut holes. They are always fresh if you get them in the early morning. Croutons holes cost a bit more, but I think they are totally worth it if you like a croissant donut. My friend got their chocolate donut, and said the chocolate flavor wasn't as pronounced, but overall a good place that I'd come back to! Was my first and last time coming to this store. I waited in line to get helped while one of the workers was helping someone else. Another employee saw me but walked away. A white guy ends up walking in and the same employee that ignored me immediately helped him out and greeted him. Even though I had already been waiting a couple of minutes. We originally planned to go to Krispy Kreme for National Donut Day but ended up stopping by Donut Star in Irvine and we were so glad we did. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised with this quick little stop after dinner. Even late at night, they had way more options than we expected, especially since it was Donut Day. We were hoping they wouldn't be sold out of everything, and thankfully they still had a great selection. We picked up some donut holes, both sugar and cinnamon sugar, and they were perfectly fluffy and warm with way more cinnamon sugar than usual which made them even better. My wife went for her favorites, the classic glazed and a custard filled one since she is obsessed with custard. Let's just say those were gone before we even made it home. I grabbed a few of my usuals including the classic sprinkle, cinnamon sugar, and strawberry. Every one of them hit the spot and of course I had to pair them with a cold chocolate milk. The staff was very sweet and patient while we took our time deciding what to get. They offer a large variety of different donuts and they're open 24/7 which is a huge plus because you never know when a donut craving will strike. This isn't a high end/gourmet donut store by any means, but is a solid place to get more traditional donuts. It's never been super crowded any time I've gone, so it's easy to get in and out quickly. I definitely recommend trying the croinuts and blueberry donuts here! The croinuts here are underrated and are actually one of my favorites from all donut places! The only reason I'm knocking down a star is because I got the croinut holes one time and they were a bit stale. Their donuts have not decreased in quality in all the years I have been coming and it seems each year they expand their menu to include more things like sandwiches, smoothies, and now rice based dishes. Donut Star located at 5365 Alton Parkway (not to be confused with other locations) delivers via Uber Eats and I was really craving breakfast foods but was too busy to make a breakfast run myself so I decided to order myself breakfast. I ordered the Lox and Cream Cheese Open Face Bagel on an everything bagel. The smoked salmon (lox) was fresh and good quality. I was impressed by that! They have a great amount of capers and onions and tomatoes. I also liked how they included a side of lemon pepper for some spice. The only part I didn't like was the bagel itself. It was very dense and bland. I'd also ordered a sourdough bagel and a whole everything bagel to go and that was also dense and bland. Lesson learned: don't expect bagel store quality bagels from a donut store haha! I'll stick to Noah's or Einsteins or Shirley's for good bagels. I also ordered a vanilla french cruller (French cruller with vanilla frosting) and while tasty, it tasted dried out like it was a day old. Overall my craving for breakfast was satisfied but when I'm craving bagels I'll just drive to a bagel store and I much prefer the French crullers at Mag's Donuts. read more
