I came to Desouro with my friend Melissa L. after we had lunch at Nep in the same plaza. Desouro is a tea connoisseur's dream. They have a lot of fancy equipment and they make your tea fresh by the order. Despite being busy, the staff here is quick and efficient and the orders come out in a reasonable amount of time considering how busy they are. My friend had the Red Jade Black Milk Tea ($5.75) and I had the Metal Goddess Oolong Milk Tea ($4.95) with Tapioca ($1.00). I could really taste the earthy notes in my milk tea and really enjoyed it. The tapioca were fresh and chewy. I think they're so busy you are guaranteed a fresh batch of tapioca. Really excited for this spot for when I'm in the mood for a quality cup of tea! Great drinks and their milk teas are very tea forward which I like. This took over Orobae I believe and have very similar menu items. Customer service is great and they are really big on making sure you like the drink (almost to a fault). Personally, I like my drinks cold and here (just like Orobae) the regular amount of ice is never enough as it is nearly all melted by the time I get back to my car. I always ask for an extra cup of ice but that's just me. Not really any seating or chilling areas inside. Long waits even with short lines because they brew tea fresh. read more

I normally don't enjoy milk tea but Desouro is my exception. I LOVE how they brew each cup to order using espresso-style brewing. The flavors are fragrant and not watered down. The service is always so professional. They're always so friendly and helpful when ordering. They allow you to adjust sugar and ice levels. Upon picking up your order, they have you try it to make sure that it is to your liking. I've never seen any other drink shop with this type of amazing service. The indoor space is tight. There's usually a line, especially on weekends but it's not too bad. I wish they offered a larger size for their drinks but it's only one size. My friend introduced me to Desouro while I visited her for the weekend. She told me Desouro replaced Orobae, which closed a while back. She loved Orobae for its somewhat bitter aromatic tea, but I honestly was not a fan, so I was curious to try its replacement. We were greeted soon after entering by an enthusiastic bobarista. Since we weren't quite ready to order, she turned to help someone else. Very soon after, another bobarista came to the front to take our orders instead. I decided to get the tropical sunset green tea at a level 3 sweetness and half ice. We waited just a few minutes until our drinks were ready. Everyone I interacted with in-store was made aware it was my first visit. The bobarista who called my name and handed me my drink told me to let her know if it was not to my liking, and she'd make me something else instead if it were the case. This was the same policy Orobae had, so it was nice to see it carried over. I'll be honest that the tea was not exactly what I expected. It was more floral than tropical. If I had to name it, I'd call it something like morning dew or sunrise nectar, as it had a very light tea flavor like something refreshing you'd drink early in the day. I asked if it could be made stronger but was informed only the sugar level could be adjusted, not the strength of the tea. Haven't been here since Orobae closed down, but this is very much like Orobae! I was surprised there was still decently long line for this since I thought the hype has died down, but the line goes by pretty quickly at least. I got to order the No. 13 Oolong Milk Tea at level 3 sweetness (I should have gotten level 2). It was pretty nice! It's definitely very milky, but the flavors were pretty good. It's not as roasty as I liked it to be, but definitely heavier on the milk side. The interior reminds me like we're ordering at a hotel haha. We went to Desouro on a weekend afternoon and we just beat the rush. The cashier/barista was there at the front to greet you and take your order. Unlike other tea places, Desouro asks you if you need help picking an item to try! She asked us what type of tea we like, do we like it fruitier, stronger etc. There are also a lot of customizations to be had and with each drink choice they make sure you know what the flavor notes will be! The line after we ordered was quite quick it was maybe less than 5 minutes to receive our drinks. They had us try the drinks before we left to make sure we liked it which was a nice touch! I tried the Hokkaido Metal Goddess Oolong Milk Tea ($5.95) with boba added (+$1). Their boba is some of the best I've had in awhile! It was perfectly chewy. The flavor of the tea was great and what they noted. Definitely very sweet, feels like a dessert and you get strong notes of caramel. We also tried the Galle Ceylon Black Milk Tea ($5.75) + boba ($1). It was great and had a nice floral tea taste. They have flavor notes to help understand the taste, but it's still pretty difficult to really get a full understanding of everything. It's a bit difficult to find exactly what you're looking for, but when you do manage to find it, it's pretty good! Having been a HUGE fan of Orobae and was very bummed when they closed, I was excited to hear that they were resurrected to Desouro. I didn't keep up w/ the drama that lead to their original demise and tried to keep an open mind & gave them a chance again..once the hype/long a** waits died down. Desouro (aka Orobae 2.0 lol) is known for their premium Taiwanese teas ~ esp. oolong milk teas and house-made boba. They are praised for their customizable drinks and quality ingredients. This boba tea store is located in the Heritage Plaza ~ between Culver Dr. and Walnut Ave. (directly next to Kitakata and near Ralphs & CVS/Pharmacy). The interior is very minimal, with little waiting area space and no seating at all. Only a couple of standing tables adorn the outside. The staff is very helpful in recommending teas to suit your preferences & cravings, but this can sometimes hold up the line. I originally was OBSESSED with Orobae's Gyokuro green tea, but was uber bummed to hear that it didn't make the menu cut at Desouro. I instead had to shift gears to try another drink and was recommended and opt'd for the Phoenix No.2 oolong tea (with boba of course). ($4.95 + $1 for the boba). Level 4 sweetness is perfect (which is NOT sweet at all, I promise). You can definitely taste the quality of the tea used. It's earthy, light, and sweet. Not too overbearing or bitter. While it's good, I don't always crave it ~ like I once did for the Gyokuro. Their boba is chewy (not overly soft), which is my liking. My stopping by now depends on how long the line is cuz it's just not worth waiting for (if you recall how long the Orobae lines use to be). From ordering, service, to order completed..the process could be more efficient and quicker. While I appreciate that they strive for customer satisfaction, IDK if asking each person to taste their drink to see if any adjustments need to be made is really necessary, as it just holds up the pick-up line. I have been noticing the long lines outside Desouro Tea Shop the past few weeks. Thinking to myself, it must be the newest boba place to hit Irvine? How boring is new boba place. However, today when I was at the market in the middle of the day and thought: now might be a good time to try this new boba place? I walkied in thinking is this a coffee place, no? I was greeted by the cashier who was way more knowledgeable on a tea than coffee. Correction, this is not a coffee place but a tea place instead. The friendly young lady explained the menu to me and help describe the complexity of the flavor of their teas. I could smell the sweet aroma of brewed tea in the air. I told her to give me the best! What are you most famous for? I want that. She did. She gave me the Buddha something --I can't remember the specific name. I ventured to the back and watched them brew my tea in an expresso type pressurized steam machine. I'm now skeptical. For real? Expresso tea? The staff was very friendly and explained the process. She handed me the tea and asked if I would first try it. If I don't like it, they would change it. Good policy. It was good. I mean it. I was really good. It was so good, I'm giving this place five stars and wondering how am I going to avoid becoming addicted to my milk tea? The flavor blows away any tea spot around. It's fresh, it's full of flavor. This really works!! This is better than I can imagine. This is a whole new level of milk tea. Now I am hooked on Desouro Tea. My next review will include a lot of pictures. I am speechless. I really enjoyed Desouro! As others had said, it's very close tasting to its predecessor, Orobae. I went in with the mindset that they're not the same so maybe I wasn't as disappointed as others have been because the comparison isn't apples to apples. I was actually more nostalgic that the drinks tasted like Orobae because I have yet to find a boba place that made it taste as good as Orobae was. Desouro is a good replacement, not the same replacement. Also, shoutout to the really friendly staff! I'm reminded again of the same friendly staff that I felt when I ordered from Orobae. Knowing this is Orobae rebranded, I had to zoom and see if my White Peach Drink made it back on the menu. I was excited to see there was the White Peach Honey Oolong Tea which I got with Boba! It tasted almost like how I remembered it, even better! Each flavor didn't overpower another, but the amount of ice giving in the cup... I swear I finished it in 3 sips. Came here on a Tuesday night and the line was long! Forgot the name of the one I ordered but its one of the top sellers (black tea with dates) It had deep, natural flavors. You can actually taste the real date flavor coming through the tea! It was on the sweeter side even though Igot 50% sweet, but it was probably from the dates. It was still well balanced and very enjoyable! The boba was incredibly soft and fresh when I got it and the staff is really nice. The layout of the store is kind of wonky for picking up ur drinks, u have to swim up the crowd to get out of the restaurant. Heard so much hype about Desouro, so I had to come check it out when I was in Irvine. The service was excellent! Every staff member was so knowledgeable of their drinks and was so willing to explain each flavor profile when I had questions.    Red Jade Black Milk Tea (4/5) I personally like my drinks less sweetened so I opted to make it half sweetness. In my opinion, it was the right amount of sweetness but I can tell it might fall flat for some people. It had a nice balance of the tea and the creaminess of the milk. But if you want to full experience, feel free to get full sweetness! Worse comes to worse, the staff doesn't mind adjusting the sweetness for you and remaking your drink.   Overall, excellent service and excellent vibes! Fantastic tea spot, and so glad that there is another shop that is similar to Orobae (RIP) in the same plaza. There was someone outside who I assume was the owner or manager greeting customers, sharing menu highlights, and explaining the store's concept. The cashiers were also very knowledgeable as they explained menu offerings, and the people making drinks ensured you liked your order and offered to make you another if you didn't like it. I give them an A+ for their customer service. The drinks themselves were fantastic! I ordered the Desouro Phoenix #13 Oolong milk tea with boba, and also tried some of the Rising Buddha Oolong milk tea. Both were delicious, and you could really taste the flavor notes of the teas. The boba was chewy and I thought the ratio of boba to milk tea was perfect too. The menu is a bit overwhelming, but I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. There is no seating inside, but there are a few tables outside. The interior looks sleek like the entrance to a museum, which is nice if you have to wait a bit for your drink. I have been wanting to try Desouro to see how it compares to its old counterpart Orobae, and I finally was able to stop by. Came on a Monday around 11:50am and there were only a few people in front of me, so there was no wait. There were two kiosks and the staff would rotate between the two to help multiple people order. Staff were all very nice. They have a lot of different drink options, and I got the Desouro Phoenix No.13 Oolong milk tea, I believe this one was most similar to Orobae's iconic rising phoenix. I saw there was also a phoenix no.2 and I was told the difference between no.13 and 2 is just the tea flavor profile, and that no.13 was more popular so that's why I got it. After ordering, you can wait to the side bar area, and I will say their interior is quite nice and does look a fancy tea shop with their probably expensive equipment. It took about 5-10 min to get the drink, which was pretty quick. Once they call your name, they would ask if it was your first time and then talking about how they make their teas. They also mentioned their perfect cup guarantee, which you would try the drink first and then let them know if you want any adjustments. I remember this kind of guarantee from Orobae as well and I still think it sometimes feels a bit awkward having to try the drink before leaving, but I do see why they do that and I do appreciate them wanting to make sure every person enjoys the drink. As for the Phoenix no.13 milk tea, it was pretty good. I could taste the high quality tea flavor, it was floral and it wasn't too strong. I got sweetness level 2 (around 25% sweet in percentage) and it was just right for me. However, I will say that it's not as creamy as I remember the rising phoenix to be, it just doesn't hit the same. I guess like most of the reviews have mentioned, it does feel a bit more diluted. Also, their half ice is actually super light ice, but it doesn't matter too much as the drink is still pretty cold and with how diluted it already is it won't need more ice anyway (but I guess they should call it light ice instead). Overall, a solid tea shop in the area! With the rising costs these days, they are actually quite affordable and on the cheaper end when it comes to price even for the slushes which is good. I usually don't get milk tea, so I wouldn't come out of my way to come here to get it as I think there's better milk tea places, but I do want to try their other milk teas and slushes. read more

There isn't seating, but the staff are very welcoming and remembered my name from my order as they said goodbye. Each tea is brewed to order. Upon pickup, the staff hands you a straw (holding the wrapper for you and disposing of it) and asks you to test the drink. If you don't like it, they can remake it with changes or make a completely new drink for you, free of charge. The baristas seem happy to work there and are great at their craft. Prior to this visit, I have walked by several times seeing the line way out the door and decided to wait and come back during non-peak hours. There were only three teenagers ahead of us, so it was perfect timing on a Wednesday afternoon around 4 p.m. Even with only three ahead of us, it still took a while to get our drinks, so I will only come here if there is no line in the future. The drink itself was very good. I got the Red Jade Milk Tea with agar boba at a 2 for sweetness. It was perfect, no adjustments needed. The cup is smaller for a steep price as add-ons are $1.50 on top of the drink price and tip. So again, this place is a once in a while treat for me in this economy, unfortunately. In contrast to other boba shops like Sunright, Jam Jam, and Heytea, I do appreciate that these other shops have easy to use rewards that score discounts. Orobae used to be my absolute favorite boba shop, so I was super excited to try this out. the shop itself looks pretty neat. you line up to order, and then you line up again against the wall to get your order. they will ask you whether you have tried it before, and if you haven't, they will make sure you try it before you go, in case you need the drink adjusted. the service is great! what we got: honey gyokuro green milk tea (9/10 yums): this is similar to a jasmine tea. we got this one at a level 4 sweetness with full ice and added tapioca. I highly recommend getting full ice, as they don't put a lot of it. i would say that level 3-4 is my ideal sweetness, but definitely go less if you don't like sweet drinks. this used to be my go-to drink at orobae, but for some reason, i felt like the tea was a little more bitter than I remembered. it might just be that i've started to like red teas more now. honey red jade black tea (10/10 yums): ended up enjoying this one ALOT. this one had a really nice flavor and wasn't too bitter. it reminds me of a red oolong tea. read more

If your party orders, regular tea and Matcha, you would have to go into two different sides to pick up your order, from the store, which is a navigation or nightmare, especially when there's a lot of people. I basically have to cross to the front of the store, then over to the other side to get the Matcha, then come back, and pick up the tea when it's ready. Why couldn't they just serve it in the same side? Or have like a front bar area that has everyone's order? This was a bit confusing for me, and if you have this being done for everyone, it's just a front traffic nightmare. However, the trick was really good and was worthwhile. I guess the bad press of the old place caught up to them, and they have decided to re-vamp and re-new their image. I like everything about this place walking in. Cool little setup, however very confusing on where to stand/go. Why are there 2 walk ways for standing? I also like this new form of brewing tea using Espresso machines. However, this is Desouro COFFEE and tea right? Still no coffee. Is that in the works? Everyone is training, but everyone was super nice and helpful. Here's the issue. There was a single flow of drinks that were going down to 1 person finishing up and calling out the names. She was then asking people if they needed adjustments. GREAT. Really. Except she spent 5 minutes talking to a customer about her tea order, which meant my drink, next in line, had to wait until they could decide if they wanted their drink adjusted. They need to fix that procedure. You cannot have a bottle neck at the final point. Tea was good. I usually err on the side of less sweet (25%) however 50% was perfect this time around. I wouldn't go 25% here, especially on the stronger teas. I may come back to try their matcha, or when they start doing coffee. Until then, hopefully they can work out the kinks...though I can't understand why they would have any considering its the same previous owners. read more

We came on a Friday evening and there was no line when we got there. The shop is very clean and has a modern feel to it. However, there are no tables to sit. Nonetheless, the service was spectacular. The manager Elise recommended us with drinks and walked us through the entire menu. She was so friendly and asked us our names. The drinks were ready quickly and they encouraged us to try it before we left to ensure we liked it. The Phoenix 2 was creamy and had a great earthy tea flavor. Level 4 sweetness and half ice was great for my liking. I will for sure be putting this place in my boba rotation spot! read more

I got the metal goddess oolong milk tea! A friend told me this is from the same owners as orobae which was another shop that closed down in Irvine recently!! Orobae was pretty good and when I tried it I can believe that this is the same owners as the old orobae! Hopefully this shop is better run so it doesn't close down like orobae did! read more

Round 2: actually short lines on the weekdays! Less than 10 min wait. Phoenix No 13: definitely "heavier" and full bodied than No 2. Closer to the Metal Buddha type of oolong. Phoenix No 2: the lighter spring time version of No 13. Different type and closer to the Red Jade type of oolongs. Taiwanese Guava Slushie: no sweetness adjustment but pretty solid slushie. More of a natural guava taste than the peach syrup drinks. Honey White Peach Oolong: tastes like Japanese peach syrup but a little too strong and the oolong was overshadowed. 3 sweetness was still pretty sweet. Osmanthus Oolong Pure Tea: unfortunately, a disappointing tea that didn't really taste like osmanthus and was like a nondescript general oolong with no origins. Hokkaido Metal Buddha and the Gyokuro Green Tea are still my top picks. read more
