Really enjoyed my visit to Owly Dessert Shop! I ordered the Avocado & Mango with 30% sugar and the Old School Crepe. The Avocado & Mango was my favorite -- the sweetness was just right and the mango and avocado worked really well together. The Old School Crepe was also tasty, with a nice texture and not overly sweet. The location is convenient if you're around UCI, and it's a nice place to stop by for a dessert or something sweet with friends. Definitely worth trying if you like crepes and fruit-based desserts! This boba shop is located right in the middle of UCI, which is definitely convenient for students, but not so much for those who aren't familiar with the campus. You have to make your way in and out of campus just to get there. Once I finally found the place, parking was actually pretty easy, with plenty of spaces available. The shop itself is pretty small. Their crepes looked really good, and I was tempted to try one, but I ended up ordering the Dirty Milk Boba instead. The brown sugar milk was okay, nothing too special. What disappointed me was the boba itself. I like my boba nice and chewy, and unfortunately, this one just didn't have the texture I was looking for. Overall, it was just okay. I knew about the Grand Opening because there were a few postings from Ocfoodhub and of course Owly themselves in store and on Instagram. It was kind of surprising that they were having the Grand Opening now because we have been frequenting the shop for drinks and crepes since the summer. I visited Owly 3 times yesterday. The first visit was on my own. Shop would open at 12 PM. I arrived at 11:09 AM and was 9th in line. However, I was pushed back in line when friends joined friends in line. Fortunately, we were waiting in the shade. Space was made in line to allow for traffic to neighboring business. Other customers had to wait in the sun beyond neighboring business. We were welcomed in at 12:00 PM. Drink orders were being taken by the boss lady. For the grand opening, it was buy one drink and get a mini from a choice of 4 drinks: mango pomelo, ube sticky rice, jasmine latte, or mango sticky rice. I ordered a jasmine latte because I am old school and a mango pomelo for the mini. There were mini totes for the 1st 250 guests each day of the 3 days October 8-10. You take your receipt to the table, choose your bag, 2 patches, and a strap. They iron on the patches for you and attach the strap. Your order was even delivered to you if ready while you were in line for your mini tote. That was great service! The man in charge of delivering orders made sure to put your drink and mini in cup holders already in the bag. The next 2 visits that day I brought another customer each time and I mentioned the grand opening to a fellow teacher when I went to teach my class. The fam bam and I happened to be having dinner at Tenori in the University Center plaza, so I decided to pop in for a refreshing post-meal drink. The Pineapple Sunshine immediately caught my eye. I did have to make sure they didn't include the mango syrup since I'm allergic to mango (I know..it sucks!), but thankfully, the drink was still good & refreshing without it. I opt'd for 70% sweetness, which was perfect for me. I also liked that they used real ingredients, as I could definitely taste the pineapple & passion fruit. I couldn't quite make out what flavor the jelly was, but I really liked the texture ~ it was soft with just a lil chewiness. All in all, it was a refreshing drink for a hot summer day. My roommate got the mangy sticky rice boba drink and i got the old town crepe. the crepe was very soggy and hard to eat in general and i thought there was only custard in it. the drink my roommate got gave her a stomach ache and she didn't even end up drinking 99% of it because it hurt her stomach so bad she almost threw up. Such a cute coffee shop! I ordered the Banana Matcha Latte and the Strawberry Banana Brûlée Crepe. The staff were friendly, and everything came out in about 10 minutes. The Banana Matcha Latte was good, but it didn't really stand out. I could barely taste the matcha, though the banana foam was delicious and tasted like real banana. Another boba shop at UTC but they also have crepes! Banana matcha was on the sweeter side even with the "less sweet" adjustment. I personally like my matcha to be on the stronger side, so to me, this drink was a little lacking of that. The banana cream was very good and pairs well with the matcha. Because of the sweetness of the banana, I personally would get this drink with "no sweet/sugar" next time. Guava Peach is a blended guava drink with peach bits. I got this with "no sweet/sugar". This drink is very refreshing. It was a bit icy at the beginning but my drink melted after sitting in my office and it was still great. Crepes smelled amazing but I didn't get a chance to try. Perhaps next time. Customer service was ok lol. They were there to do their job and didn't go out of their way to do anything beyond that. They seem to be a little co fused when I asked them if Guava Peach was a blended drink and they were like "no it's not and then said oh it is actually" lol. The new IT spot that lives up to the hype IMO. We did have to stand in line but the line moved pretty quick. Was greeted with a super friendly smile. The menu is different and fun. Not huge, which is a plus! The cashier was great at suggestions and describing what each drink or crepe was. Love how you can see everything is fresh and made to order. I suggest if you do get a crepe eat it straight away. My favorite was the mango drink. Heavenly! The sitting area is fun and whimsical. Best thing is it was kept clean even with all the foot traffic. I was pleasantly surprised by my watermelon and coconut slush with agar boba (I believe)- I got it 50% sweet and it was perfect and delightful, and you could taste the freshness. This location is by Blaze Pizza and Amazon Hub inside the University Center plaza (where Target, Trader Joe's and Chick-Fil-A all are). The service was great- a sweet girl working today (7/31 in the morning) was so accommodating- I was with my toddler in a stroller. The ambiance inside is super minimal and pleasing. The menu is broken down in categories, which I think will help the overwhelming-ness on what to order. There's a lot of boba and drink spots in this plaza, but I think Owly will do well, because they also sell crepes! Finally got to try the newest boba shop at UTC that replaced Pink Pig! My friend and I came around 12:30pm and thankfully there wasn't a line out the door since the past few days whenever I passed by there was always a line outside. The ordering process was easy, you can just order with the staff member, and the person who took our order was nice. I got the Luminous crepe while my friend got the Old School. We also got drinks to pair with our crepes, which I had gotten the mango pomelo while my friend got the peach jasmine tea. Drinks came out pretty quickly, while the crepes did take a bit longer (to be expected). There were a few staff who focused on the drinks while the other staff did the crepes, so our number had to be called twice (so be alert if you order two different things). But I think we got everything within 15min which was good. Starting with the drinks, they were pretty good! For my mango pomelo, I got the least sugar (which they said was about 25% sweet) and it was just right. I liked the fresh mango flavor and the coconut milk went well with it. It also comes with some agar boba which was nice as well. I'm glad that this met my expectations because I know nowadays a lot of drink places have this type of drink. For my friend's drink, she got less sugar (50%) and it was refreshing. The sweetness mostly comes from the peach bits, so I definitely recommend mixing it thoroughly because the first sip was a bit on the tart side. As for the crepes, I will say it's just okay, wasn't anything special. The first few bites were good because all the toppings balanced each other out (for Luminous, I enjoyed the mango and peach bits as well as the mango ice cream), but towards the end, it kind of got way too sweet with the custard cream. I struggled to finish because it was so sweet (but also because I got full pretty quickly). It also got really soggy by the end. I will also say that although the packaging was cute, it was kind of hard to eat the rest of it without ripping the paper cone, which got kind of messy. Overall, a solid drink place at UTC! Their concept of being a tea and crepe place is unique and the interior was pretty cute and had a good amount of seating (there were tables with chairs as well as two bigger couch chairs). However, personally, I would just stick to getting their drinks, and only rarely would I come for just the crepes (unless I share with someone).
