Uchi is a Japanese spot in Wynwood that I absolutely adore. They actually have other locations in different states, which I learned about on my recent visit. I got to come here twice, both for birthday celebrations but this past one was for my birthday! Uchi is a beautiful spot to celebrate any event, with delicious food to match. At a higher price point, definitely make sure to come here for a special occasion. I felt so spoiled by both my partner and the staff at Uchi. When we arrived, we were seated promptly after letting them know we made a reservation. They gave us a birthday card when we were seated with a lovely note! Our server was so attentive and gave us a ton of recommendations, including the uchi salad, which is now one of my all time favs! Instead of a birthday dessert with staff coming to sing happy birthday, our server actually gifted us the Dream Girl roll during dinner, which is waaay better than a bday dessert in my opinion. Uchi is hands down one of my favorite sushi spots in Miami. From the very first time I walked in, I remember thinking--this doesn't feel like Miami. The interior design is on another level. I honestly think Uchi was one of the first restaurants in Wynwood that really elevated the design game. It has that sleek, modern, big-city feel--like you stepped into Tokyo or NYC for the night. I don't know why I took so long to try this place. It had been on my list for a while and I finally had the chance to make a reservation. We went for date night and tried the curated omakase, which I highly recommend since you can tailor it to your likes/dislikes and budget. For all the delicious plates we tried, I think it was fairly priced and so worth it. This omakase was an experience and I don't think I want to try it any other way. Fantastic dinner experience, I would highly recommend the omakase experience for anyone interested! I made a reservation for 1 for a Saturday evening and the place was quite busy so I'm glad I planned ahead. I was seated by the sushi bar and was serviced immediately by the chef in front of me which was nice. Their omakase is priced for two and I came alone, however they adjusted the menu, price, and portions for 1 easily. They also have a happy hour for discounted menu prices! Food came out quickly and it was up to the chef's discretion for what was served. Everything that came out was delicious, high-quality, and I enjoyed all of them a lot. I booked my reservation through Capital One as well and got a free dish for it which was extremely generous. Drinks were also discounted and tasty. I got a cocktail that paired well with each of the dishes which was nice. Service overall was attentive and solid as well. Visited Uchi happy hour for the first time and enjoyed my visit so much! My group and I sat along the bar, where Juan Sosa kindly served us. We felt really taken care of between consistently having clean plates (we ordered food throughout our stay) to help even ordering food. ALL the food we tasted was delicious, though I could not photograph them all. I'm unable to remember all that I ate, but in addition to the photos attached, we also enjoyed wagyu skewers and the most flavorful lettuce wrap-type meals (I apologize for my lack of better descriptive words). This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in South Florida. I definitely recommend sitting at the sushi bar as the chefs are preparing food right in front of you. The inside has a pretty cool ambiance. The service was amazing and so kind but the star of the show was the food. Each dish was so beautifully prepared and insanely delicious. Their fish was so fresh and any you truly can't go wrong with any of the nigiri options. If you see any of the words, slow roasted or dry aged beef on the menu... Get it. Worth every bite. Had the most amazing dining experience in Uchi! It took us four years to finally come, but my husband and I finally came for Miami Spice, but when we saw the menu, we opted to order our own dishes. I usually come to Uchi for the experience, but this time it was the complete opposite. Unfortunately, Roy -- the sushi chef we were seated with -- turned what should have been a special evening into the worst dining experience I've had there. Instead of guiding us through the menu and tastings, he gave us short, dismissive answers. When we asked for recommendations, his response was a smirk and "everything," followed by walking away. His attitude was condescending, unhelpful, and unprofessional. When I stepped away to speak with a manager, his immaturity showed even more as he started joking around and laughing with his friends behind the bar. Dining at Uchi is supposed to be about connection, discovery, and enjoying the artistry of food. Once that energy is ruined, the experience is gone. I asked to be moved away from him, but by then the evening was already soured. It's such a shame, because I've been before and the bar staff has always treated me incredibly well -- truly a "chef's kiss" experience. Some must trys are the gyutoro rice bites, kinoko nabe (mushroom rice), sake toro crudo, hot rock wagyu, and fried milk (vanilla custard). Everything was so good and sharable. We were a party of 4 and the amount of food was enough for everyone to share. It's definitely on the pricier side, but for the quality and the overall experience, it's 100% worth it. The staff is super friendly and knowledgable on food recommendations, making sure you're taken care of from start to finish. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and could not be happier with this experience. And when I say it's an experience, it really was. We were a group of 6 and we had the best server by the name of Kai. He was so knowledgeable and patient and funny and just had so much customer service it really made the experience all the more enjoyable. After doing my research and reading several reviews, I decided to order: the Akami Crudo, the Tako Maki, the Sake Toro Nigiri, the Hama Chili, the Sake Toro Crudo and then we got the Fried Milk dessert to share. Kai broke down the menu for us and explained the most popular dishes, which we would like based off our own personal preferences, and even gave us free dishes. When I say he was the best, he really was. He recommended the chefs tasting and I do want to try that next time. The food portions are smaller than let's say a sushi chain restaurant in a strip mall, but this is a gourmet experience. I thought the portions and the pricing were completely fair. As for my dishes, I would say they were all delicious. They all had such unique flavors I would have never thought would pair so well. The Hama Chili or the Sake Toro Crudo are my top choices I think. As for the fried milk dessert.... Get it. I came here with friends for my birthday during their happy hour, which runs from 5-6:30. I highly recommend taking advantage of their happy hour menu, especially if you want to try their Omakase, which is 1000% worth it at the price point. We also ordered a few things off the happy hour menu apart from the omakase, including the oysters (just wow), Brussels sprouts, wagyu croquettes, and octopus. Literally everything we tried was delicious but I will say that the crispy pumpkin and walu walu were standouts for me. For dessert, we went with our server's recommendation of the fried milk ice cream, which really was delightful, and a mango sorbet that sat atop tapioca and passionfruit, which was light and refreshing (totally unique flavor profile). The best meal I've had in a long time. We had the pleasure of joining Uchi for happy hour (everyday from 5-6:30). We arrived at 5 without a reservation and they were able to seat us right away. From start to finish, the service was impeccable. The waitress explained the menu and was super thorough. We did not opt for omakase because we weren't super hungry but I do think it'd be a lovely option for next time. Every dish was lovely- so bright, complex, and layered flavors. My favorites were the crispy rice with waygu beef- the rice was perfectly cooked & the waygu was so tender and flavorful. My second favorite was the Paloma crudo- the mezcal zu was such a unique taste and it was a perfect compliment. Last but not least- I've eaten my fair share of crispy pork belly and this was one of the best- the basil cream added such an amazing flavor.
