We enjoyed the skewers, some sushi rolls and the sea bass which was to die for! Wow! The service was excellent. Our server was attentive and very respectful. He made us feel well taken care of. The ambience is bright inside the restaurant. I love the look and feel of the place although it is a little loud we did enjoy it.

Our first visit and everything was wonderful. The salmon (bento box) was perfect as was my wife's ramen.

Food was so good we went back a few days later!! The ambience is one of a kind. The food is amazing! The service was also very good. The food came out fast even though the restaurant was packed! I will be back!

I remember when Makoto first opened and was a small quiet eatery on the first floor. It's always been one of my favorite hideaways to have a quiet meal and I can't believe it's taken me until now to write a review. Well, it's not a quiet little hideaway anymore and even has patio seating. The flavors are still impeccable. The service is always accommodating... and the people watching is to die for. While Makoto might continue to grow, hopefully the food will never change.

We arrived around 9 PM and were initially quoted a two-hour wait, but we got lucky and were seated in under 30 minutes! The ambiance is fantastic--very well-lit and a great vibe for dinner. The food started strong; the Hamachi Crispy Rice and Brussels Sprouts were amazing. For sushi, the Spicy Tuna Roll was easily a 10/10, though the scallop sushi wasn't personally my favorite. To finish, I had the Toban Yaki, which was incredible. Our server recommended a coffee alcoholic beverage to pair with it, and the combination was perfect. Great service all around. I definitely recommend checking this place out and will absolutely be back.

Very chic and upscale place located at Bal Harbor. It is a very busy place and very loud so it is very hard to have any kind of conversation, except to yell across the table, especially if you have a larger part, so thats a real downside. However, the food and service is great, we had one dish that we were not crazy with and the server took it back and off the bill. Otherwise, a great evening with good food. Definately worth a visit to try out.

First time at this restaurant and it was on fire. The food was prime with quality ingredients. We ordered the branzino, filet mignon fried rice, crab, chicken skewer, and crispy tuna. Our waiter was excellent. He recommended many outstanding options and the atmosphere was beautiful. I love the colors and the entire trendy look.

Makoto was recommended to us by a friend and it was an amazing rec! We happened to be in Miami during Miami Spice and stopped in for their lunch menu. Tuna crispy rice was perfect--crispy and spicy! You HAVE to get the spicy edamame. That sweet chili soy sauce is like liquid crack--it was so addicting and I've never feened over edamame in the way I did these. For mains, my boyfriend was in love with the koji chicken breast and the XO sauce it came with. I will never pass up sushi so I had the moriawase and it was fresh and filling. The desserts were okay, I don't think I would order them a la carte, but they were beautiful! Make a reservation! They seemed to be quite busy even during lunch on a Wednesday. Makoto is one of those spots that looks beautiful in the day and night, so this would be a perfect date night spot as well!

Yooooo Makoto is that girl. Located on the third floor of the Bal Harbour Shops, this sleek, elegant Japanese restaurant absolutely delivered from ambiance to service to every single bite. I came here with my family, and we had the BEST experience. The space is bold and beautiful: bright colors, chic textures. It's giving elevated, but not pretentious. We were supposed to sit outside, but shoutout to the host who worked some magic and got us a table inside. It was super busy, but they still made it happen. Let's talk food, because WOW. We came ready to eat and everything was just fire. What We Had Appetizers ________________________ + Tuna Crispy Rice ($18) - 9.5/10 We ordered this twice. Crispy, piping hot rice with buttery, flavorful tuna and just the right heat from the serrano chili. It's like a flavor pillow in your mouth. +Crispy Chicken Dumpling ($18) - 9.2/10 Light, airy, but packed with flavor. Comes with a miso mustard and togarashi. Dip it in eel sauce or soy sauce and you're set. + Hamachi Ponzu ($27) - 10/10 Thinly sliced, delicate, with a white ponzu that's citrusy and fresh. Always a go-to for me, and Makoto's version is chef's kiss. + Truffle Salmon ($25) - 9/10 A raw dish served with crystallized soy and citrus. Light, fragrant, flavorful. So worth it. What We Had Mains ____________________ + Frosty Wagyu Fried Rice ($29) - 12/10 This is the one. Jidori egg + XO sauce + melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu. You take one bite and just pause like, wait...what this shit is real? It's rich, savory, and so layered. You NEED to get this ASAP +Rainbow Roll ($24) - 8.5/10 Made with snow crab, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp, ono, cucumber, avocado. Fresh, bright, clean. Not the most exciting, but just a solid sushi roll done right. + Miso Seabass ($49) - 9.6/10 Delicate and delicious. It melts in your mouth, served with crispy kale and ume miso. Just beautiful. Silky and buttery, with an elegant flavor profile. +Ginger Lamb Chop ($54) - 10/10 Cooked perfectly, seasoned to perfection. Very tender! Comes with whipped tofu feta sounds strange, but works so well. A must-order. What We Had Dessert _____________________ +Toben Yaki ($17) - 9.2/10 Passion fruit + white chocolate + almond cookie crumble + mango sorbet = YES. So well-balanced and satisfying. Next time? I'm definitely getting the Okinawan Tres Leches it comes with roasted pineapple, Japanese whiskey, spiked meringue, and soy ice cream. The waiter raved about it and now I'm mad I didn't order it! Service: 10/10 Our server was everything. Super knowledgeable, honest, and truly cared about our experience. He told us what to skip and what to run to, and I love that. Parking Tip: It's hectic. Bal Harbour Shops has limited parking, so unless you come early and stalk a spot, you'll likely be valet parking like everyone else. It's cramped, so just plan ahead. Ambiance: 10/10 Overall Experience: 10/10 Would I Be Back? Heck yes. This establishment has been Tamied ™.

We came here for a Spice lunch and it was AMAZING! First, the interior is fantastic! It's like an upscale, '70's garden party! The upholstery, the lighting, the rattan... it's all there and all done very tastefully! The Spice offerings are varied and interesting. We started with the tuna crispy rice and the tempura shishito peppers. The tuna was incredibly fresh and the rice was perfectly crisped. The peppers were a giant bowl of lightly fried shishitos covered with savory bonito flakes. We both had the sushi / Maki Moraiwase - three pieces of nigiri that were so fresh, they were practically swimming! It also came with four pieces of california maki, filled with what tasted like real crab. Finally, the desserts... exquisite! the Hojicha parfait came with a scoop of raspberry gelato that was tart and refreshing. The Okinawan tres leches was incredible! The scoop of soy ice cream on the side was a real taste treat! There were some negatives... the interior is ice cold and the acoustics are terrible. I don't know why so many restaurants invest so much in interior design only for the room to be a loud echo chamber. Lastly, I find the over the top displays of wealth from both the stores and the patrons at Bal Harbour shops to be grotesque and depressing, but that's not Makoto's fault.

Makoto is a must visit while in Bal Harbor. Such an elegant ambiance - you think you are a resort town somewhere in France. The service is excellent and you pay 20 percent automatically. :) I love their lunch bento box with grilled salmon. It comes with a generous portion of fried rice. Recommend!

We started with the hamachi, which was beautifully balanced with truffle-ponzu, jalapeño, wakame, cucumber, carrots, masago, and just the right touch of heat. The spicy edamame with chili garlic sauce was addictive and came out hot and perfectly seasoned. For rolls, we ordered the Crunchy Joy (shrimp tempura, chopped crabstick, tempura flakes, topped with avocado, yellow chili sauce, and eel sauce), which had such a satisfying texture and flavor combo, and the spicy hamachi roll, which was fresh, flavorful, and well-executed without being overpowering. One of the surprises of the night was the salmon burger with fries -- genuinely so good. The salmon patty was juicy, the avocado portion was generous, and the dressing tied everything together really nicely. We also tried their ramen, which is new to the menu, and it did not disappoint. The broth was deeply flavorful and comforting, with a soft-boiled egg, edamame, and mushrooms. You can tell a lot of thought went into it. We finished with the biscoff cake, which was the perfect ending to the meal. The restaurant itself is modern, clean, and inviting, with a lovely outdoor patio option as well. Overall, this place feels like a true neighborhood gem -- great food, warm hospitality, and an atmosphere that makes you want to come back. I'll definitely be returning.

This has been one of my top go-to spots to bring my family, so it was disappointing to have a different experience this time. We ordered a variety of dishes, including some of our usual favorites. I got the spicy edamame, which unfortunately seemed a bit overcooked--the beans were much softer than I prefer. My daughter ordered a chicken dish that ended up being mostly breading with very little chicken inside. I also ordered my usual salmon teriyaki, but this time the sauce tasted overcooked, almost burnt, which made it difficult to enjoy. I even had my daughter and her boyfriend try it to make sure it wasn't just me, and they both agreed. That said, not everything missed. The service was amazing. My daughter liked the miso soup. The Crunchy Joy roll (I believe that's the name) was very good, and the deep-fried pork gyoza was amazing as always. Overall, I was very disappointed since this place has consistently been one of my favorites. I'm hoping this was just an off day and that my next visit is back to the quality I'm used to. This is the reason for my three stars.

We were planning on ordering and taking the food to go. The restaurant had only one or two tables filled, so this was not a problem. The server was super friendly and the food was ready quickly. We had the following: Spicy Blue Crab Hand Roll Hamachi Hand Roll Spicy Tuna Roll Spicy Hamachi Roll Salmon Tiradito Pork and Shrimp Gyoza Verdict of the food: MEH. -Gyoza - I didn't try the gyoza because it had pork; Larry said it was a very small portion -Tuna and Hamachi rolls - tasted the same and were nearly all rice -Hamachi Hand Roll - I do not like hand rolls as they are difficult to eat neatly / share, but aside from logistics, this one was good! -Blue Crab Hand Roll - YUCK!!! The crab tasted like mud. I dislike crab though, so YMMV -Salmon Tiradito - very fresh and it came with an interesting passion fruit dipping sauce, but the order contained 5 tiny slices of fish The total came to $72 and we were still hungry after eating so I HAD TO COOK ANYWAY!!! I was actually pretty steamed all night; the point of spending money on restaurant food is to save me the work of cooking. So we spent money AND I cooked. Lose-lose. The interior of the restaurant is clean and fresh; the quality of the ingredients is good and the staff is super friendly, but the pricing is just way too high for what you get. The rolls were seriously not any better than Publix $5 sushi when the volume of rice is taken into account. We don't eat out much anymore so to try a new place and have it be disappointing is really a bummer.

Miami sushi will never be New York, San Francisco, or Japan, let's be real, but this is easily top three sushi in all of Miami for me. The key is non-negotiable, sit at the bar and do the omakase experience. They offer omakase at $50, $70 and $90-ish dollars, which is kind of wild when you consider the quality, the pacing, and how much food you're actually getting. Every piece is thoughtful, beautifully composed, and genuinely exciting to eat. Yes, a few bites lean a little saucy, that's my only critique, but the quality of the fish itself is insane, clean, fresh, and handled with real respect. I believe some of the owners are Peruvian, and you can feel that influence in the flavors and the way the dishes are presented. It adds personality without overpowering the fish, which is exactly how it should be. The experience overall is a straight 10 out of 10. If you keep kosher or avoid shellfish, this place deserves extra love because they offer kosher-style selections that don't feel like an afterthought, which is huge and honestly rare. That alone makes it a standout. One tip I'll give you, and this is important, sit at the bar and do the omakase. I can't really vouch for the rest of the menu, though I'm assuming it's solid, but the bar experience is where the magic happens. Right now, nothing compares to omakase here at this price point. Blind Tiger is special, and I'm saying that knowing full well I might regret exposing it.

Started with what I would consider sushi appetizers before the nigiri. I felt they were relying more on sauces in those dishes- but still solid. My favorite was the "tower" that had a cucumber base, nice chunks of avocado, topped with raw fish. There was a nice Unami flavor with truffle. Truly amazing. The nigiri was fresh- with some fish being preferred over others. Also, they had soy sauce on side so you could add the amount you want. Overall all the nigiri was good except for the shrimp Was my least favorite out of them all. However, I enjoyed each nigiri and trying fish I don't usually get. The last Sushi item was a hand roll. They then served miso soup which I thought was out of place in terms of order. Maybe should have been served first. The dessert in my opinion wasn't good and seemed store bought. In their defense, I am not much of a sweet person. I would have much rather had another sushi dish. However, one thing to note is that with the dessert - they did not give all parties the same type of treats. Therefore, we were a little disappointed when we didn't get the fruit tart and the chocolate macaroon. For drink I got a Japanese vodka drink (can't remember the name) that had a hint of wasabi. Wasn't spicy but you could taste it. The passion fruit mojito was so much better though and actually was part of the main restaurant. Servers were nice! Ambiance was really peaceful and cozy vibe. Sat at the counter thinking we would be able to watch the sushi chefs but instead just saw their heads. Would have been nice otherwise.
