We came during happy hour and ordered most of the menu items - avocado nigiri, scallop nigiri, waygu handrolls, fish curry. The avocado nigiri and the fish currry were my fav! I also got a guava margarita for $10. We got a huge amount of food and it was a great value! I definitely recommend coming during happy hour and taking advantage of the deal. Uchi is probably the best restaurant in the Wynwood area if you're looking for real, thoughtful food. Finish with the fried milk sundae! read more

Went here with my son, his girlfriend and my husband. Since they have been here before we let them order. They were out of quite a few things, so that was disappointing. They did offer a nice crudo as complementary. Some of the highlights: scallops and oysters were delicious. The tempura shrimp was good as well. Everything was very fresh but some things were not as good as others. Meaning not everything was great. The toro was very good. The less fatty was just as good as the more fatty one. They were out of the waygu but substituted amberjack which we ate but don't usually eat without telling us until it came out. The ambience was absolutely beautiful, and even with a reservation there were plenty of tables available, which made the experience feel relaxed and comfortable. The food was excellent, you could really taste the freshness in every bite. We tried the hama chili, sake toro crudo, madai crudo, hot rock, pork belly, nigiri (sake, sake toro, and akami), and the zero sen. Everything was flavorful and well executed. Our server also surprised us with the ham and eggs, and honestly, it was SO good. The reason it's not a full 5 stars is mostly the pacing of the service. It started off great, with dishes coming out at a really nice pace, but then it suddenly slowed down quite a bit. One of the best dining experiences I've had. My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary and from start to finish the experience couldn't have been better. Our server Diego was so knowledgeable about the entire menu and helped guide us and answer any questions we had. I was a little lost looking at the menu and every single thing he recommended was delicious and exactly what we liked. They also put a "happy anniversary" note on the table which was a nice touch. Our wine was great and Diego threw in a couple of sashimis, which he said that particular fish was a celebratory fish so it fit the occasion. Highly recommend Uchi for non-traditional Japanese cuisine! The freshness and creativity of the dish combinations is what stands out the most to me. It may not have the best ambiance or the nicest restaurant decor, but the menu does not disappoint. I particularly like eel, so I recommend the unagi. I also loved the hama chili, which is one of their signature dishes, the wagyu dingo, the shime saba (mackerel), the kimono even though it's a very small bite, and the kinoko nabe, which is not pictured but is truly a must. I'm not sure what they add to it, but it is delicious. If you have room for dessert, the fried milk is interesting because it has several different flavors and textures you can combine. Went here for our anniversary and had a great time! We arrived about 15 minutes before the end of happy hour but the staff were very welcoming and had no issue with us ordering straight from the happy hour menu. We shared their happy hour omakase for two, and I added a crispy rice with gyutoro (wagyu short rib bites) which was highly recommended. The omakase started with a little raspberry pineapple palate cleanser "shot" before a rapid flurry of dishes. Their signature hama chili yellowtail dish was fresh and savory. The crab cake curry as surprisingly tasty, with the savory salty crab balanced by the creamy slightly spicy curry sauce. The chicken skewers had a nice flavor although could have been a little juicier. All of the nigiris were fresh and flavorful, and they even accidentally brought us another table's order of salmon nigiri which they realized and said it was on the house as an anniversary gift! My favorite dish of the night was the crispy rice with gyutoro - the lightly sesame seasoned rice sesame paired perfectly with the super tender beef and savory slightly nutty salsa macha. It's a shame they only have it on the happy hour menu! Cool swanky vibe inside, pretty spacious with an outdoor patio but I sat at the bar since it was just me. The bartender was super helpful with recommendations and very nice. I started with the kinoko usuzukuri, an appetizer dish of thinly sliced king trumpet mushrooms with a refreshing drizzle of yuzu dressing and some other flavorful toppings. Explained the menu well and worked with us on allergies. The food quality is outstanding. They always have a rotating menu of seasonal fish and if you can make their happy hour, it's a can't miss. Personally I find the HH omakase for two a great deal, with the amount and quality of food you receive. I personally loved the hand roll and sushi the most. The oysters were also flavored extremely well. I wasn't such a fan of the cooked fish that was kind of bony when it came out. Otherwise I enjoyed everything else. I'd happily return again. My lunch buddy and I each ordered the prix fixe which we both split, and all the bites were incredible. They had really great drink prices too, with $5 glasses of sake. The apps we got were the hama chili and sake toro crudo. Both delicious with quality fish, but we both agreed the hama chili was the winner! Mains, we chose the walu walu and the burger. Gorgeous inside, happy hour from 5-6:30. Great service, yummy food, but small portions and pretty pricey. Came here for HH and it was close to $100 per person with two drinks, some bites, and tip. That said, the inside beautiful, it's a good spot to catch up, and the quality of fish was there. It does fill up (even at the bar), so definitely have a reservation. Drinks were stellar! Stopped into Uchi for dinner because a friend recommended and I loved the interior. Here's a bit more about my experience. P.S, my rating would be 3.5 stars if Yelp offered half points. Reservations-- it's a pretty small restaurant so if you're going with a large group be sure to book a spot online as soon as you can. We booked at 1 pm for a 8 pm reservation for 3 with ease. Service- our table was available as soon as we arrived. Our server was knowledgeable and took us through the menu. The only thing that I wish they did was either mention what kind of sauce came with the sushi on the menu or at least when they bring you the dish. I was so curious every time I got a roll and it was a mystery. Al's side note, they only do soy sauce by request. Aesthetics-- they definitely have it going on when it comes to the design inside of Uchi. The decor was beautiful and very moody --perfect for a date. The menus were beautiful and appear to change periodically because it had a date on it. They played some of my favorite songs at the end of the night including Odeal and Doechii Food--- overall I would give the food a 3/5. I'm not a sushi snob but I've definitely had rolls that have blown me away. Uchi was not that for me unfortunately. My favorite dish was the yellowtail roll and their medium fatty bluefin tuna. After that I would say the spicy tuna roll, Hama chili and then their salmon nigiri. All pretty standard but plated really nicely. I was not a fan of the edamame. I've been here multiple times and it never misses. The space is modern, calm, and dimly lit, perfect for date night, but also an excellent option for business dinners or bringing clients, especially since they offer private dining. There's plenty of seating, though I recommend you make a reservation due to how popular it is. Everything I've tried has been incredible, but my absolute favorite is the kinoko: melt-in-your-mouth, rich, and buttery king trumpet mushroom in the best way. Other standouts include the hot rock wagyu beef, Hama chili, sake toro crudo, madai crudo, Walu Walu, and honestly all of the rolls. Wow this place just gets better every time I visit. This location in Wynwood is on a great street with lots of shopping and other food and dessert options. A boutique hotel just opened up across the street along with a swanky new lounge. First off, this restaurant does Happy Hour 5-6:30pm 7 days a week. And their HH menu does not disappoint. Imagine on a weekday that might not be the busiest - say a Monday (when we went) - you literally get a happy hour to yourself. Restaurant doesn't open until 5p for patrons. So we snagged a 5:30p reservation at the Sushi Bar. Definitely make a reservation especially on busier days/nights via their website. The outside of the restaurant may seem a little edgy, but once you enter, it's a very chill, welcoming, friendly, and tranquil vibe. Of course, we were seated almost immediately because we had a reservation and we were one of the firsts - but not the first groups of people there! Everyone was great. We sat at the corner of the sushi bar which gave a little extra arm room for the person sitting at the end. Sushi chefs were lined up prepping and we were so excited. One of the star HH menu items in my point of view is their Signature Tasting which is like an omakase experience. It's a 10-piece tasting which includes a cold appetizer, a variety of fish/nigiri, a maki, a hot tasting, and a dessert. It's a complete meal and it's a shareable for one price. I mean can we say one of the best happy hour omakase, I think maybe. Known for their hama chili, which is a magnificent pairing of hamachi with citrus I want to say mandarins and not orange. It's definitely on the sweeter side but it complements the sweetness of hamachi. Thankfully, it came in their tasting this evening. Here the menu changes according to season so you don't really know what will be on the Signature Tasting until you order it. But you can always add whatever you wanted to try after - but you won't need to. It is a complete experience from beginning to end. Before I forget, shout out to Farid the sushi chef stationed in front of us. He was awesome and friendly. We got to talking (about sushi, of course) and he prepped most of our order. He def made HH a little more interesting! Updating my review because I came here again- we go out of our way and brave crazy traffic from Miami Beach to come here every time we go to the area. I wanted my kiddos to try their fried milk dessert which was just as amazing this trip as it was when I visited previously. The staff were amazing and held our reservation for us despite us being over an hour late because of bumper to bumper traffic (and a whopping $77 rush hour uber from Miami Beach!). Everything about this meal was fantastic. Admittedly, it was the most expensive dinner we had.. but we were stuffed and the food and service was great. The toro hand rolls were delicious, the quality of the salmon nigiri - top notch. The wagyu skewers were juicy. Only thing I didn't care for was the croquettes- they were just too heavy with the batter in my opinion. Maybe this dish just wasn't for me. I didn't like the quality of the wagyu inside either. My favorite item was the shrimp in a coconut broth- all of the citrusy flavors came together in the most wonderful way- a true cornucopia of flavors.
