Parking can be a pain, so I'd recommend a ride share if possible. Inside has an elevated, intimate design. Out server was exceptionally friendly and professional. My lunch buddy and I each ordered the prix fixe which we both split, and all the bites were incredible. They had really great drink prices too, with $5 glasses of sake. I've been here multiple times and it never misses. The space is modern, calm, and dimly lit, perfect for date night, but also an excellent option for business dinners or bringing clients, especially since they offer private dining. There's plenty of seating, though I recommend you make a reservation due to how popular it is. Everything I've tried has been incredible, but my absolute favorite is the kinoko: melt-in-your-mouth, rich, and buttery king trumpet mushroom in the best way. Other standouts include the hot rock wagyu beef, Hama chili, sake toro crudo, madai crudo, Walu Walu, and honestly all of the rolls. Stopped into Uchi for dinner because a friend recommended and I loved the interior. Here's a bit more about my experience. P.S, my rating would be 3.5 stars if Yelp offered half points. Reservations-- it's a pretty small restaurant so if you're going with a large group be sure to book a spot online as soon as you can. We booked at 1 pm for a 8 pm reservation for 3 with ease. Service- our table was available as soon as we arrived. Our server was knowledgeable and took us through the menu. The only thing that I wish they did was either mention what kind of sauce came with the sushi on the menu or at least when they bring you the dish. I was so curious every time I got a roll and it was a mystery. Al's side note, they only do soy sauce by request. Aesthetics-- they definitely have it going on when it comes to the design inside of Uchi. The decor was beautiful and very moody --perfect for a date. The menus were beautiful and appear to change periodically because it had a date on it. They played some of my favorite songs at the end of the night including Odeal and Doechii Food--- overall I would give the food a 3/5. I'm not a sushi snob but I've definitely had rolls that have blown me away. Uchi was not that for me unfortunately. My favorite dish was the yellowtail roll and their medium fatty bluefin tuna. Wow this place just gets better every time I visit. This location in Wynwood is on a great street with lots of shopping and other food and dessert options. A boutique hotel just opened up across the street along with a swanky new lounge. First off, this restaurant does Happy Hour 5-6:30pm 7 days a week. And their HH menu does not disappoint. Imagine on a weekday that might not be the busiest - say a Monday (when we went) - you literally get a happy hour to yourself. Restaurant doesn't open until 5p for patrons. So we snagged a 5:30p reservation at the Sushi Bar. Definitely make a reservation especially on busier days/nights via their website. The outside of the restaurant may seem a little edgy, but once you enter, it's a very chill, welcoming, friendly, and tranquil vibe. Of course, we were seated almost immediately because we had a reservation and we were one of the firsts - but not the first groups of people there! Everyone was great. We sat at the corner of the sushi bar which gave a little extra arm room for the person sitting at the end. Sushi chefs were lined up prepping and we were so excited. One of the star HH menu items in my point of view is their Signature Tasting which is like an omakase experience. It's a 10-piece tasting which includes a cold appetizer, a variety of fish/nigiri, a maki, a hot tasting, and a dessert. It's a complete meal and it's a shareable for one price. I mean can we say one of the best happy hour omakase, I think maybe. Known for their hama chili, which is a magnificent pairing of hamachi with citrus I want to say mandarins and not orange. It's definitely on the sweeter side but it complements the sweetness of hamachi. Thankfully, it came in their tasting this evening. Here the menu changes according to season so you don't really know what will be on the Signature Tasting until you order it. But you can always add whatever you wanted to try after - but you won't need to. It is a complete experience from beginning to end. Before I forget, shout out to Farid the sushi chef stationed in front of us. He was awesome and friendly. We got to talking (about sushi, of course) and he prepped most of our order. He def made HH a little more interesting! Updating my review because I came here again- we go out of our way and brave crazy traffic from Miami Beach to come here every time we go to the area. I wanted my kiddos to try their fried milk dessert which was just as amazing this trip as it was when I visited previously. The staff were amazing and held our reservation for us despite us being over an hour late because of bumper to bumper traffic (and a whopping $77 rush hour uber from Miami Beach!). Everything about this meal was fantastic. Admittedly, it was the most expensive dinner we had.. but we were stuffed and the food and service was great. The toro hand rolls were delicious, the quality of the salmon nigiri - top notch. The wagyu skewers were juicy. Only thing I didn't care for was the croquettes- they were just too heavy with the batter in my opinion. Maybe this dish just wasn't for me. I didn't like the quality of the wagyu inside either. My friends and I visited this restaurant to celebrate a birthday, with a party of 11. While the food and ambiance were largely enjoyable, the experience was marred by service mishaps that left a lasting impression. I'll break down my thoughts into three key areas: food, service, and ambiance. **Food** The food was fantastic! Every dish our group ordered was well-executed and flavorful, with some clear standouts. The Uchi Salad, Hot Rock, and **Kinoko Nabe** were particular highlights, impressing with their balanced flavors and fresh ingredients. I personally enjoyed the Bánh Mì Rolland Nigiri Tuna Roll--both were delicious. The Bánh Mì Roll had a light, fresh taste reminiscent of the classic Vietnamese sandwich, but with a refined, seafood-driven twist. The nigiri tuna was simple yet striking, allowing the natural richness of the fish to shine against the delicate rice and nori. The cocktails, however, were hit or miss. Some favorites from the table included the Uchi Cold Brew Martini with Ketel One, the Pink Dragon, and the Tsurai--each well-balanced and creative. On the other hand, the Ichigo Highball, while intriguing on the menu, fell completely flat. My friend described it as tasting like "strawberry static water," with the shiso garnish failing to add the expected aromatic lift or taste. The special oysters were a treat--a little spicy, fresh, and well-prepared--but noticeably smaller than expected, especially compared to East Coast oysters we've had at other establishments. While size isn't everything, these were petit to the point of surprise. Dessert, however, was a major highlight. The Fried Milk & Ice Cream was simply divine. The contrast of the warm, gently sweet fried milk with the creamy cold ice cream was indulgent yet balanced. I could have happily eaten an entire bowl of the fried milk on its own. **Service** Unfortunately, this is where the experience faltered, which was disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber. We arrived on time for our reservation, only to find that the restaurant had miscounted our party size, leaving us two seats short. Given that nothing changed from the time we booked, it was strange that we were initially seated incorrectly. The issue was eventually corrected, with extra chairs and dining ware brought over, but it was an avoidable oversight. Our server was, for the most part, attentive and knowledgeable. He did a great job explaining the menu and checking in throughout the meal. However, the restaurant completely overlooked the fact that we were celebrating a birthday--something we had noted in our reservation. The biggest issue of the night, however, was an unfortunate accident that left three of my friends--including the birthday guest--soaked in spilled cocktails. A manager or supervisor delivering our drinks knocked over about four or five of them, leaving our friends sticky, stained, and smelling like a liquor cabinet for the remainder of the meal. While accidents happen, the restaurant's response felt inadequate. They apologized and provided napkins for cleanup, but no real assistance beyond that. To make up for the mishap, they provided us with two complimentary appetizers worth $45. While the gesture was appreciated, it didn't quite match the inconvenience--the stained clothing alone was likely worth double or triple that amount. To make matters worse, we were still charged for two desserts plus some extra toppings, despite the mishap. Considering they had already forgotten our party size and the birthday celebration, this felt like another oversight in an evening of missteps. While we understand that accidents happen, the response did not feel proportional to the situations of the night. **Ambiance** The restaurant itself is gorgeous. The interior design is sleek, modern, and inviting, making it a perfect setting for a special occasion. Even when the restaurant was busy, it never felt overwhelmingly loud, and conversation flowed easily across the table. However, the men's restroom was a complete sensory assault. It smelled atrocious, like a stale, musty litter box mixed with overpowering ammonia. While the space itself was aesthetically well-designed, the odor completely ruined the experience. Thankfully, the women's restroom was reported to be clean and problem-free, so this seems to be an isolated issue perhaps. **Final Thoughts** While the food and ambiance were strong, the service left much to be desired. Between the seating mishap, forgotten birthday, and the unfortunate cocktail spill, the evening didn't feel as seamless or celebratory as we had hoped. The restaurant's response to these issues could have been more thoughtful and accommodating. If management fine-tunes their service approach and pays better attention to basic detail, this could be a truly exceptional dining destination. Would I return? Uchi is a Japanese spot in Wynwood that I absolutely adore. They actually have other locations in different states, which I learned about on my recent visit. I got to come here twice, both for birthday celebrations but this past one was for my birthday! Uchi is a beautiful spot to celebrate any event, with delicious food to match. At a higher price point, definitely make sure to come here for a special occasion. I felt so spoiled by both my partner and the staff at Uchi. When we arrived, we were seated promptly after letting them know we made a reservation. They gave us a birthday card when we were seated with a lovely note! Our server was so attentive and gave us a ton of recommendations, including the uchi salad, which is now one of my all time favs! Instead of a birthday dessert with staff coming to sing happy birthday, our server actually gifted us the Dream Girl roll during dinner, which is waaay better than a bday dessert in my opinion.
