As a fan of sushi and fresh seafood, I was pleasantly surprised to see this place close by to the hotel I was staying at. I walked in around 9:30 PM and they closed at 10 PM, they still sent me and let me know the kitchen closed at 9:45 PM. Admittedly, I wanted to order the nori tacos, but they did not have them. Let's start with the positives. The food was solid. My family enjoys sushi and seafood. It hit the spot but that's where it ends. The server was pleasant and we had no issues there but the food took forever! We were the only ones here on a Friday night. Not even take out orders came in. Noticed the chef was talking to a girl at the bar instead of working. At times he just stopped altogether to chat. What was he going to do if the place was busy? I live up the street from this place but never knew about it until recently. Came in tonight for a quick dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The menu was pretty unique! Everything I tried was super tasty- salmon tartare, roasted kraken, Zeus and jalapeno popper rolls. The jalapeño roll was especially unique as it was a warm roll which I don't think I've ever had. Four of us came in on a slow day, the dining room is small but cozy. Service was subpar, the server must had been new and forgot to add a couple things to our rolls and didn't really check on us too much. The food was alright, the seaweed salad was really good and the miso soup was great, the rolls were decent. What really made us not want to come back is when we got the check, even though service was slow we tipped 18% but the checked seemed really high even without tip, went back and found out there is an additional tax on top of the 7% standard tax that couldn't be explained. I got refunded but it left a bad taste in our mouths so we won't be back. Kinda disappointed because of how other reviews rave about this place. read more

I watched on YouTube just getting to know the local area and food around me before I visited I tried every single thing that the server recommended we must of had different taste in food. He ended up bringing us out some citrus ceviche, fish tacos and for dessert some Kinda Oreo cookie roll everything was very unique. Me and my girlfriend tried everything the ceviche was some of the nastiest food I've ever put in my mouth raw fish with lemon and cilantro was absolutely disgusting I'm no waster so I tried to eat it and it felt like absolute punishment, the fish tacos were very unique and had some type of caviar baby eggs on top that exploded in your mouth when you took a bite not really a strong taste more of a texture thing I believe the seaweed shell was very crispy and tasted like eating a leaf.. My wife and I dined in here for our first time visiting. The restaurant is in an unassuming area that is right up against NE second avenue so during traffic time the street is busy. Parking is nearby on the surface street and there appears to be a garage right around the corner as well. As mentioned, if you didn't know the restaurant was there you might not know to look for it. There's a small, intimate indoor dining area with some tables outside that are probably nice with good weather. Service was attentive and food was quick to come out. We started with a wakame salad that was fresh. For our rolls we ordered the Zeus (not pictured), ceviche roll, and jalapeño popper roll. The jalapeño popper roll was a pleasant mix of sushi and some melted cheese. Our other favorite was the ceviche roll that came with a sauce that was really fresh. To finish it off we tried the Oreo roll for dessert which was a fun and sweet spin on sushi. This has to be one of my favorite spots for sushi in Miami. I've gone several times and they always exceed my expectations. It's a small place with a relaxed ambience. Everything was exceptionally fresh. I loved the salmon tartare. The tuna and truffle roll was incredible! Very different spin on a roll that I would have never imagined. We discovered Kraken Crudo staying at a nearby hotel, looking for local eats to try out upon moving to Miami. We were surprised and happy to see a small local sushi place nearby. The vibe was chill with a small and quaint setting. The dishes were delicious, as we tried sake, happy hour sushi, and their sushi "Pizzas". They came on sustainable dishes with sustainable eatery. The quality and unique selection of rolls are top notch, the price is absolutely affordable and worth it. I would even come here by myself for a roll! Must try the nori tacos, the seaweed shell is crunchy. We had tuna and salmon, couldn't get enough. The tuna pizza is also the perfect crispiness, with a drizzle of honey to die for. Mr.bombtastic roll was also heavenly with crunchy quinoa, tuna, salmon, shrimp, all the things. I love how most rolls come with tobiko or ikura to give it More Flavor. It's a pretty small place and filled up quick (we got there at 7p on a Sunday and sat right away but in 10 minutes it was full). They're quick, friendly, and welcoming. Sushi is really weird with cream cheese but at Kraken, I can tell you that these sushi rolls with cream cheese are pretty damn good. I'd like to tell you that the tuna pizza is "ok" to me. I'm not used to having tuna with honey & it tripped out my taste buds. Overall a bizarre experience. The food itself is decent, but the service is consistently unprofessional. When I called to place my order, the person on the phone was noticeably rude and repeatedly cut me off when I was just trying to order. I ordered a spicy tuna roll with avocado inside, but once again, it was served with avocado on the side. This has happened before, so this time I specifically asked them to include it inside the roll and they still didn't. When I called to ask if they could remake it, the owner was unusually difficult. He kept insisting I bring the roll back even after I explained I had already eaten one piece and didn't want to waste food. He bizarrely said he would eat it? As someone who's worked in the restaurant industry for years, I found that incredibly unprofessional. If a mistake is made, you remake the order no questions asked. Between the poor communication and unwillingness to fix a simple issue, I really can't recommend this place. There are plenty of other spots that care more about customer experience and basic hospitality. read more

I finally got a chance to go to Kraken. I've been following them for a while now on Instagram. Oh also check out kraken lab. This is a cute smaller sized space, but definitely cozy. The service is fast and friendly. My only "ehh" was that we had changed our mind for an appetizer and switched from the tuna pizza to the kraken maki, but the server I guess did hear us correctly and we ended up with both. I didn't have the heart to send it back. Now food, we started with the kraken maki, which is delicious. Tender octopus with cilantro and smoked soy butter just melts in your mouth. Honestly that order could be a meal. The tuna pizza was good, but the kraken maki is the winner out of the two. For main rolls we went with the captain roll and the tuna truffle roll. They give you the option of rice, quinoa, or arugula to have it wrapped in. The captain we went regular rice and the tuna truffle we went with arugula. Both were excellent and very filling. I can't wait to go back and to also check out the lab. I am dying to try a cone out. read more

Can somebody say "sushi tacos"??? This taco was so amazing between the spicy tuna, the seaweed salad, Tobiko, the fresh and crispy outer seaweed wrap this bite was to die for. The other picture is the salmon belly crudo. It had some pieces of Ikura on it, and the micro cilantro really brought out some awesome flavors. Every dish here seems intricate with so many tastes and the plates make you say wow. Not pictured was the Ikura rolls which were delicious as well as the truffle tuna roll! Recommend both!
