I've had the food from here twice now! Once in person and once delivered. We got LA Galbi, Doenjan-Jigae, Bulgogi soy beef, and Mul Naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) for takeout, and it was so good! My only complaints would be that only the stews came with rice (none of the other dishes we ordered did), and that I personally found many of the Galbi pieces to be more fat than meat. I also personally do not recommend getting the buckwheat noodles (I suspect it's because it was takeout, but the flavour was off). Otherwise, the flavours were amazing. I was pleasantly surprise by the doenjan-jigae: had a very nice seafoody taste (pleasantly salty? Don't know how to describe it, almost like a bisque minus the cream flavour?) that I wasn't expecting. Not like other Doenjan-jigaes I've had, but very good. Additionally, the meat dishes came loaded with veggies (made me feel healthy albeit the oil hehe). In person, had the bulgogi lunch set. Would very much recommend. Interesting bone in fried chicken. Served with fries and a few pieces of rice cake and deep fried cheese. We had it with the classic soon dubu jigae soup but with seafood. And they were generous with the seafood as there were crab legs too. Hard to judge the atmosphere these days worth covid happening. Just quieter in most places. Tå Bom Robson was amazing. We dined at 8pm on a Friday night, had to wait list but WORTH IT. The manager was especially attentive, along with the entire team of staff, made sure every table was looked after. We ordered their signature TTEOK-BOKKI, BAAAAM Chicken & a couple of side dishes ( perfect for 3-4 people). The music all perfectly suited for the environment, hip-hop/rap/upbeat vibe, and everyone's just having a good night. Food was delicious, staff's amazing, vibe is fun and a convenient location. Probably the worst restaurant service I've experienced in Vancouver. My friends were overcharged 3x the amount we were supposed to pay. We didn't realize at first and walked out of the restaurant until one of the waitress chased after us, claiming our bill got switched up and we were supposed to pay EVEN MORE. That's when I checked the bill and realized how much they overcharged us. The 6 of us only ordered 1 hot plate and fried rice which should only come up to around $10/person ($12.5 including tip), but they charged us almost $29/person. What's even more suspicious is that the waitress typed in an extra $0.42 charge each for 2 of my friends. I asked the waitress about it and she simply left us standing and went to who seemed like her manager, making us wait for 20+ minutes without bothering to explain the situation to us or even apologize, which should be basic manners; many employees walked pass us and none of them offered us to sit down or anything! No one approached us and we had to be the ones to take the initiative to walk to the cashier and ask what happened, only to be told literally one word: "Wait", again without any explanation or apology. Up till the end, all they did was refund us by cash and still had the audacity to charge us 18% SERVICE TIP (without asking us about it) after dealing with the situation so poorly. They didn't even let us bring home a copy of the receipt when we asked. On top of that, the manager did not ONCE apologize to us or even LOOKED at us while we were in front of his face in the cashier. The waitress who made the mistake only said sorry once at the end and that was it. We understand that people make mistakes, but the way they handled it was very unacceptable. I went to Ta Bom in Coquitlam earlier this year and I'm glad they've opened a location downtown. Last time I tried their spicy chicken hot plate with cheese and corn etc. and it was my first time having something like that! It was as good as it looked and due to the memorable experience, we decided to try their downtown location. This time it was hot outside and we wanted cold noodles which were pretty standard. The only fried chicken dish they had was also pretty good. It had crispy fried chicken pieces covered in an addictive sweet and spicy sauce. They weren't meaty large pieces but still very tasty. The last thing we tried was LA BBQ beef or something like that but it was my least favourite because it didn't have any flavour to it and relied on the salt and sauce they provided on the side for flavour. read more

The flavours were great and the atmosphere is great for some fun lunch or dinner bbq meet up. I personally think the best bbq flavour is spicy chicken - but that might just be me being biased to spicy food. The spicy chicken is great with cheese if you enjoy cheese with your meat! If you aren't feeling the spice, the bulgogi bbq flavours are good as well. I also recommend getting fried rice as an add-on to your bbq! The rice mixed with the last bit of the bbq flavours is amazing. Note: you must order a minimum of 2 portions per bbq flavour you choose. If you order a different flavour, it's served on a separate plate with new toppings of it's own . The only downside is that it is always super packed! Be ready to go before rush hour! read more

Been seeing a lot of photos from the Coquitlam location circulating for a while now so when they opened the downtown location I figured, why not check it out? For the Instagram famous hot plates, the ordering is a little confusing. You have to select your meats ranging from $14 - $18 with options like octopus, beef, pork belly, chicken, spicy pork. The menu states that "minimum order has to be 2 portions of the same kind". Which basically means for each kind of meat you'd like to get, you'd have to pay $28 - $36 for one type of meat. If you'd like 2, you're looking at spending upwards of $55. It doesn't come with cheese either. To add cheese, it costs $5 extra. Taste wise, the food was good. I mean, you really can't go wrong with BBQ meats. The staff was attentive and friendly. That being said, I don't know if I can justify the price. It's good but it's not THAT good. I've never been able to understand why and how Korean restaurants puts such a high mark up on cheese. From my understanding, it's literally just shredded cheese you can buy in bulk. As much as I enjoyed the food, I don't think I will be coming back. I'd much prefer to prepare this at home instead. read more

We got there on a Friday night at around 5.30 and got a table for 6. I think that was a good time because halfway through our meal we saw a lineup outside. We ordered: 1) Beef bulgogi with cheese - 3 portions with the cheese on the side (add on for $5). It did taste good with the cheese but I would say that it didn't drastically change the experience for me. The steamed egg came on the side. The beef was tender and well marinated. I was glad the meat was pre cooked because I didn't trust our cooking skills HAHA. Would get this dish again! Just a heads up that you need to order at least two portions of meat and they need to be the same so BRING FRIENDS. 2) Volcano rice - when we were almost done with the meat, our server came over with the ingredients for the fried rice and cooked it up in our pan, maximizing all the flavours from the previous dish. She also added egg for that "volcano" effect. It was a great way for us to get full if we weren't already. However, i did think that the volcano rice from Sooda (kbbq in burnaby, if u havent been before PLEASE DO) was better. 3) BAM (I think that's what this was called) fried chicken - a platter with deep fried goodness: rice cakes (these were really good), fries (just like Costco fries!), mozerella sticks, and chicken. I found the chicken dry with not much meat on it. I did like that they had 6 different dipping sauces though! 4) Special fried chicken - hands down the best dish we ordered. Next time I'm just going to get this with a bowl of rice. My initial impressions was that this tasted just like chicken nuggets but as I kept eating it, I realized it was better than chicken nuggets. Solid place for cheesy kbbq plates and fruity cocktails! Reminds me of streetside restaurants in korea. The dakgalbi was tender and juicy with an amazing presentation, although I wished it was a bit spicer and more flavorful. I also loved the rice balls that you mix yourself, enhanced the seaweed and mayo additions. Had a good experience here last night. Got here around 5:30 so there was no wait for a table of 6. The menu doesn't have a lot of graphics so it might be confusing to order items if you aren't familiar with Korean dishes. Servers are friendly and attentive, always came around to adjust our grill temperature, mix our dishes and refill our water. Ordered the japchae which I really liked for its strong flavour, the cold noodle dish in soup with egg and meat and the famous hot dish with cheese and corn on the side. This thing is sizzling hot so beware - my friend burnt her chopsticks! The cold noodle dish is highly recommended because if you eat it after the hot dish it will cool your tongue down greatly. I do not eat spicy but this hot dish was on fire, however very tasty. You can also order rice at the end and they can mix it into the dish for you (and if it's too spicy for you, they can scoop up some of the meat onto the sides). We chose chicken for protein. Side dishes were average - the usual kimchi, bean sprouts and potatoes. Also had a corn dog dish but it was too saucy for me. Liked the deep fried meat on it though! read more

I've went to Ta Bom at the Coquitlam location and the food there was great so me, my wife and her friend decided to try the one at Robson street. I called in for a reservation but they didn't accept the call so I knew that it may be busy during dinner time. It was fine since it was a Thursday night and it was also our day off. When we got there we were assigned a number through a text to yelp which was great. It took about 32 minutes for us to get seated and when you entered the restaurant it felt more high end than the one at Coquitlam. We ordered 1 Hot Pot #3 And 2 Jukkumi-Jeyuk bokkeum (I hope I got that right). With our side dish of cheese, corn and rice. The hot pot was good and definitely looked tastier than how it looked. However it was still bland as the soup didn't give out that much aroma The Jukkumi however very delicious and the cheese with corn combo really helped give out that flavour! I was only taken aback when I was eating the spicy bone and I felt a very hard item between my teeth. It was silver but definitely something that shouldn't have been there. I still enjoyed the food and would like to try more dishes at this restaurant. I gave it a 3 out of 5 due to that small error of the bone back soup. I'll update the review if I come back here again. I saw this hotpot with melted cheese and I immediately went in and tried it. I never regretted it and it was one of the best dishes I ever tasted. The pork was great, corn, cheese and egg complimented well. After eating, the server will ask you if you would like to add rice and mix it with the remaining sauce on the hotpot. Overall a great experience for sizzling Korean hot plates but only if you are willing to wait and receive smaller portions. I enjoyed the hot plate (spicy chicken) along with the sizzling cheese, steamed egg and side dishes. A warning that you must order at least 2 portions of the same meat on your hot plate per hot plate order. You cannot mix meats, which was a tad disappointing for me. The cheap street eats option was okay. The mozza sticks were overly breaded and only came with 3 pieces when usually people come to these joints in fours. The fries and spam sticks were fine, nothing to complain about. I also had the sausage stirfry, mostly sausage so this great if you want protein! I was looking for a dish with some veggies to break up all the meat I was consuming but it was hard to come by. Came with a friend on Tuesday night and they were quite busy! We got seated in 10 mins without making a reservation and service was very fast and efficient. We ordered the ta bom chicken with cheese appetizer and it was sooo good! The sauce on the chicken is so good and there is still a crunch to it. I always ordered the spicy chicken plate and do the volcano rice at the end. It's the most satisfying meal and I always crave it when I want korean food. I finally got to visit for dinner tonight! Yelp has an online waitlist, which we didn't know about until we got there. We waited around 30 mins before we got the table. The wait was well worth it! The service was amazing- fast, courteous, friendly and frequent. My water glass was never less than half full and they replenished our side dishes even before it was finished, without prompting. They were very concerned about my white sweater getting dirty and I was asked three times whether I wanted a bib - so I put one on in the end :) The food was really good - it's the first time I've had the hot plate with cheese and it was very hearty! We had the spicy small squid and pork and added on cheese and rice cakes. The ingredients were quite fresh and the sauce was flavourful but not overpowering. We ordered a bowl of rice along with the meal and it went really well with it. The prices were very reasonable - we left very full and spent $25 per person. I love everything about this place! The service, the food, the atmosphere. I have been here a few times now and always for lunch. Their lunch specials are awesome! You get everything serve to you on 1 tray. All the side issues, your soup and main dish. I think their philosophy is to give you everything once. I have tried their soups, bulgogi, spicy meats etc. Never had a band experience and always want to come back and try something different. Recently, they are doing cash only. I see you Ta Bom, I see youuu! The newest Korean joint on this side of town (Robson's mini Koreatown!) I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews! I'm a fan. We went the unorthodox route (everyone around us had ordered the cheese hotplate,) and had the large buddae jjigae hotpot and japchae. The hotpot was loaded with instant noodles, sausage, spam, and rice cakes! Loved both dishes ~ definitely recommend! Reasonably priced too (compared to some of the other Korean joints in town) with friendly service to boot! Mind you, we didn't go during their soft opening (we went weeks later,) so do give them another try if you didn't like Ta Bom the first time! Considering the popularity and relative newness of this place you'll most likely have to line up. Worth it tho! read more
