I booked Nightingale for an early 5:30pm dinner since one of their signature dishes, Brick-Pressed Chicken is a favorite for our family. Our picky 6yo son will eat some variant of this dish most of the time. The restaurant is gorgeous - brightly lit, classy, and arranged on two floors, each with a dedicated kitchen. The upstairs even has an open kitchen. Despite feeling very upscale, the restaurant is super welcoming to all, from families with kids, after-work crowds, folks on dates, and even well-dressed stockbrokers discussing their latest trades. The food was outstanding and had inspirations from Italian, Mexican and Japanese influences: 1. The kid's cheese pizza turned out really good - thin crust, Neapolitan style with slightly charred puffy crust from the wood oven. Our son ate most of it before the brick-chicken arrived! 2. The smaller dishes are meant to be shared - the Japanese Sweet Potatoes and Roasted Cauliflowers are good sides for a protein-rich entree. Wife ordered the lighter Baja Scallops and enjoyed them. 3. The star of the dinner was the Brick-Pressed half chicken. Crispy seared crust and super-moist meat underneath. Unlike many places they added a bit of spice from the chilis and even mixed in some beef tallow for additional richness. Our son enjoyed it too, and was not fazed by the slight heat from the chilis. Dropped by for Happy hour - there is quite a selection of treats you can choose from, however, note these are happy hour portions, if you are super hungry, this might not be for you and you'll need to order full size entrees. My wife and I had a pretty good time here. The food was good, especially the Roasted Brussel Sprouts! We loved it so much that we have since been making it at home several times since. Pizza was good but didn't meet the Brussel Sprouts bar. Service though was quite disappointing. We weren't getting the attention of the hostess for several tens of minutes each time we needed something. We waited long enough to get the attention of someone to get some red chilli flakes for the Pizza and finally we just ended up eating the Pizza without the chilli flakes since no one came to check on us for over 20 minutes. This restaurant is perfect and I desperately wish I had one local to me. My mom and I spent 2 of our 4 nights in Vancouver here! The focaccia bread is to die for, and every appetizer we tried was delicious. We had the ahi and yellowtail hamachi as well as the roasted carrots and Japanese eggplant. Both nights we shared the large clam pasta and it was incredibly good. The dessert menu is also wonderful, but we were only able to try the vegan pb&j cake (which was delicious). They also make a great whiskey sour and all of their other cocktails looked amazing as well. Cannot wait to bring my family back here next year! read more

If you notice my previous review of Nightingale, you'll see that I wrote profusely and adoringly about the savoy cabbage and that we made a second reservation for the following day on the basis of that dish alone. So you can imagine the heartbreak upon discovering that that exact item had been removed from the menu literally overnight. Seasonal menus are cool, but the loss of the cabbage instantly diminished the appeal. The ensuing meal was solid but wouldn't have merited a second visit during a weekend-long trip to Vancouver. The sweet potato was the strongest item with a nuanced flavor and satisfying chewy texture. But unlike the cabbage, which practically reinvented that vegetable, it was merely a very strong version of a sweet potato. Meanwhile, the Japanese eggplant was undercooked and a bit rubbery. The vegetable unto itself didn't carry much flavor though the accompanying sauce was nice. Lastly, the cauliflower (our only repeat dish) was still flavorful but not as thoroughly roasted as it had been the day before. I would still recommend Nightingale to others, but it wasn't the unchallenged standout meal that we had hoped to reprise during our short stay. After flying for many hours from the East Coast of the US, a cab ride from the airport, and checking into the EXchange hotel on Mother's Day 2026, we were starving and couldn't have been happier to find this place, and even happier that they had room for us to belly up to the bar. Service was terrific and we enjoyed our experience immensely. We enjoyed wine for me, bourbon for him, shared the fantastic foccacia to start (note it's large enough for at least 4 people, we took some back to the hotel). I had the smaller portion of spaghetti with clams he had the 100 layer lasagna. (that takes them 3 days to make) The spaghetti was clearly handmade, and it was way richer than I expected it to be, so I was glad I got the smaller portion. Very delicious! I got a small bite of the lasagna and thought it was very meaty and tasty. He polished it off, but did say that the charred topping took over tastewise a bit too much. Despite being stuffed, we found ourselves wanting to linger, so we ordered the caramel pot de creme, and Irish Whiskey for him, and a dessert tea drink for me with blueberry & breakfast tea, amaretto, grand marnier and cinnamon. All super delicious and again very rich! To top off our fine experience at this awesome restaurant, because it was Mother's Day and I'm a Mom, they gave me a wrapped box to take with us. We lucked into a last-minute reservation and ended up grabbing seats at the bar--honestly, it couldn't have worked out better. The vibe is stylish without feeling pretentious, making it a perfect date night spot. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we sat down. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the interior of the restaurant is gorgeous and spotless. We celebrated our anniversary at Nightingale, and overall it was a good dinner. We were greeted and took to our seat promptly. Ambience and decors are nice, but quite loud. Service is average,would have expected more genuine attention from a fine dining restaurant. We ordered cauliflower, hamachi, scallop, duck confit, waygu bavette steak and lasagna. Honestly everything tastes great, especially the scallop and steak exceed my expectations. The natural flavor of seafood and meat is so fresh, seasoned and cooked perfectly. One of the nice restaurants in Vancouver with unique bird cages on top of their bar area. Initially, I thought they wouldn't be family friendly but I was wrong. They have kids menu which included their famous pizza so obviously we ordered the pepperoni one for our son. The pizza itself was really good. It was thin and flavorful but the pepperoni was rather hot for my young son. We bunch a few appetizers and one entree. We loved their Argentinian shrimp which was so flavorful. We also tried their famous buttermilk fried chicken served with maple syrup. The batter was light and was fried perfectly (not oily). We also ordered the kale salad which came as generous serving. Nightingale is a nice restaurant located between Burrard and Canada Place. It has a nice mix of italian and international dishes. Went there for lunch with colleagues and shared 3 pizzas. Really loved the spicy spianata salumi, piquillo pepper, san marzano tomato pizza. The crust was perfect and lovely overall flavours. The San daniele prosciutto, cherry tomato, arugula, mozzarella pizza was also quiet good, a bit more healthy but the arugula takes a bit of the flavour. The roasted chanterelle mushroom, spinach, mozzarella, fontina pizza had the least flavours and felt less interesting to eat but was still good overall. Service was fast and atmosphere relaxed. They do a really good job at elevating even the most basic items by using complex spices and sauces which I really appreciate. Sweet potatoes are never my favourite but it turned out to be our favourite dish, followed closely by the focaccia which was a great portion size and perfect in texture and taste. I will say that as a vegetarian, the pasta is the only large plate on the menu that's available but there are tons of smaller plates that are veg-friendly so you won't go hungry. The restaurant itself is beautiful - lots of space and they offer a coat check as well. Our server was nice and prompt, and she even gave us cookies to go as a birthday treat which were divine! One of the best meals I've had in my LIFE! I love when restaurants serve food family style and really enjoyed the way they paced our meal. For our table of 2, we ordered 4 dishes. The first 2 dishes came out individually and were replaced shortly after we finished them - it was perfectly timed. Then our pastas came out together. 1) Buttermilk fried chicken 5/5: So tender and juicy. Not overly sweet or salty, with both these flavors complementimg each other so well. 2) Baked Japanese sweet potato 5/5: The sweet potato was cooked perfectly. It was crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. The toppings were delicious. 3) Manila clam spaghetti 5/5: Best seafood pasta we've had! 4) Rigatoni all'arrabbiata 5/5: Noodles were perfectly al dente. The sauce was cream, also bright and fresh. I absolutely love a tangy tomato sauce, and this was just that (even with the ricotta mixed in!). We went on a weekday afternoon and the restaurant was lively, seemingly filled with business people on their lunch breaks. Despite being busy, the restaurant wasn't chaotic??? We had a reservation and were sat upstairs, which I was happy about because the decor of the restaurant is also something to be appreciated. I have no critiques on any of the food items and truly nothing negative to say about this restaurant. The service and entire experience was great from start to finish. Amazing random dinner find in Vancouver! Everything was closed as we were looking for a late night dinner and then we came across this place which was still busy on a Monday night. We got seated at the bar which was great and the menu is a good mix of high end and casual . Really cool moody dark place inside with minimal lighting! We had a Negroni and espresso martini as our cocktails which were on point and perfectly made, and they bought out some of the best focaccia I've ever had . With big airy holes and a nice tomato cheese topping. Excellent. Next we tried the rigatoni with classic Arribatta sauce and whipped ricotta and basil oil. Another great dish. Not complicated but so tasty. Loved the freshness. The basil oil was a good touch. The prosciutto pizza with cherry tomatoes and arugula and mozzarella was another delicious serve. Great thin crust and delicious toppings and plentiful. Dessert we tried the salted caramel pot du creme with vanilla and butterscotch. Wow! So good! Creamy and thick and sweet. And yes, it's recommended to make a reservation since it gets quite busy, even on weeknights. Great choice for fun night out, for special occasions, for casual or business meetups. It's a good place to bring out of town guests when visiting Vancouver downtown and my only notes for visitors may be it can be loud upstairs so may not be ideal for serious conversations or seniors and do budget time and costs for downtown parking when driving. I had been here previously during a girl's trip last year. We enjoyed the food, but were a bit put off by how loud and hectic it was. This time I dined earlier and had a fantastic experience at Nightingale! My husband and I were able to walk in and were seated fairly quickly (we sat near the hallway upstairs by the service station, but that was fine with us!). We appreciated that our server (Meghan?) was efficient and attentive without hoovering. She knew the ins and outs of the menu and made thoughtful recommendations. We started with a half-bottle of Pinot Gris and the seared tuna, which paired beautifully. The menu is full of unique dishes, and we were particularly impressed with the cauliflower--it's a simple vegetable jazzed up with a complex and delicious flavor profile. I also loved the seared salmon and the sauce which appeared to have golden raisins mixed in for a bit of sweetness. Dessert was the perfect finale! My husband loved his after-dinner coffee drink, but I can't stop thinking about the peaches and cream cheesecake. Food was creative and delicious. Drinks were thoughtful and well paired. Service was stellar. What went wrong last night? We were unwilling participants in what I assume was a restaurant-sanctioned social media campaign during our dinner. For 90 minutes, we were subjected to an "influencer " and her photographer (huge camera lens, flash photography) documenting every aspect of this influencer's meal. This was the table immediately next to us. While taking pictures is definitely a thing in restaurants today, and people documenting every bit of their meal is also acceptable, it's really unfair to fellow diners to have to tolerate constant flash photography or lighted video. It was especially egregious when the influencer insisted on seeing the work every few minutes, thus pointing the camera lighting away from her table and at us unwilling spectators. Again, this went on for 90 minutes. I am assuming that the restaurant was okay with this because not a single staff member (and it's a wonderfully staffed restaurant) asked them to stop or even tone it down. Most commercial filming in the city requires notice communications so that one can avoid it. Why not here? And for those of us who were accidentally filmed--I don't believe they got anyone's consent to include their images in commercial footage? Certainly the restaurant benefits from this "engagement ". But at what cost to the impacted diners? Disappointed. read more

We ordered a bunch of dishes to share with our whole table. Here are my top picks. I am not much of a salad person, but I will never turn down a beet salad. I loved the creaminess of the whipped feta mixed with the acidity from the orange. The buttermilk fried chicken was so addictive. I kept helping myself to more. It had the perfect sweet to savory ratio. My only wish was that the provided us with a serving spoon, so that I could have scooped up the sauce along with the piece of chicken. The braised meatballs were massive and hearty. They were moist and flavorful. The rigatoni all'arrabbiata really surprised me. At first glance it looked super simple, but I ended up really liked this dish. I especially liked the whipped ricotta and basil olive oil topping. The ricotta was smooth and creamy. He was good though and I'm not complaining, nor am I taking a star off for that. What I'm taking a star off for is the food. I was a bit disappointed and underwhelmed by it. The pizza crust was very charred. I think they made the mistake of drizzling the honey on the pizza before baking it. Also underwhelmed by their Brussel sprouts. The beef shortrib dish, although tasted good, wasn't worth the $55 price tag. It was braised long enough. I really enjoyed my go to cocktail there. It was delicious as usual. We were seated on the top floor right in front of the open kitchen which honestly made the experience so much more memorable as we got to watch the talented chefs cook and prepare the dishes. I love nightingale! It is a great restaurant that goes otherwise unnoticed from the outside. It's a two level dining masterpiece and perfect for date night or girls night. Their fried chicken and pickles is my personal favourite. It's share style so they encourage multiple dishes for the table instead of one per person. We also got the cappicolo pizza and Brussel sprouts. Pizza was good but I may opt for different toppings next time as my partner got to choose the flavour this time.
