The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the interior of the restaurant is gorgeous and spotless. We ended up ordering two pastas -- the rigatoni and the spaghetti -- as well as the Brussels sprouts. Everything was excellent! We were seated on the top floor right in front of the open kitchen which honestly made the experience so much more memorable as we got to watch the talented chefs cook and prepare the dishes. I love nightingale! It is a great restaurant that goes otherwise unnoticed from the outside. It's a two level dining masterpiece and perfect for date night or girls night. Their fried chicken and pickles is my personal favourite. It's share style so they encourage multiple dishes for the table instead of one per person. We also got the cappicolo pizza and Brussel sprouts. Pizza was good but I may opt for different toppings next time as my partner got to choose the flavour this time. Brussel sprouts were to die for - I wish there were more and less green onions haha. I understand the hype now and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the food and service here. Standout dishes were the beet salad (unexpected) and of course the fried chicken, although everything was spot on. The beet salad was the perfect mix of texture and flavour coming from someone who rarely eats beets. The chicken was so light, yet crispy with a balance of sweet and savoury. We were blown away. The restaurant feels upscale but not pretentious, and the service has always been great. They gave us solid recommendations and were very accommodating. It is a bit loud so a bit tough to have a conversation especially if you have a bigger table. Been meaning to come here after hearing so much about it, and I'm glad we did. Menu had a variety of dishes, but what definitely stood out was the Beet salad and the fried chicken - both unexpectedly delicious. As people who don't really eat beets normally, we loved the salad which had a lot of refreshing flavour that balanced so well with the beets. The fried chicken was probably the best fried chicken I've ever had - perfectly crispy on the outside while fluffy and juicy on the inside. Service was prompt and nice, we got a table upstairs. Nightingale was phenomenal! I can see why they are listed on The Michelin Guide. This little gem in downtown Vancouver was the perfect way to start my birthday trip in Canada. I made reservations online, but due to heavy traffic which we were not anticipating we ran late. Although we made it a few minutes late we were greeted kindly and escorted to our table within a few minutes of arriving. I heard about how amazing their happy hour menu is, which is why I really wanted to come here for happy hour. Their happy hour did not disappoint. We ordered different small plates to share and a couple of drinks. This restaurant encourages sharing which works for us since we love to order different things and share. We ordered the Buttermilk fried chicken, Beet, orange, dill, whipped feta, everything crumble, Baked japanese sweet potato and a Pepperoni pizza. To drink I ordered the Bramble (yaletown distilling gin, lemon, blackberry) it was one of the best drinks I have ever had. The blackberry wasn't just a syrup it was muddled blackberry. The service was excellent! Our sever was so helpful, quick and made us feel like we were old friends! The ambience was great and relaxing. The restaurant is so pretty! Where do I start with Nightingale? We walked by in 3x in 1 day and though we had promised each other that this would be a lowkey trip with small bites only, we couldn't resist getting a reservation here for lunch. After having eaten here, I don't regret it one bit! We had reservations right at opening and arrived about 5 minutes prior; fair warning doors really do open right at opening so if you are a bit early, may nee to walk up and down the street for a short bit. We opted for the chef's table aka facing right into the kitchen upstairs and it was great! A bit more secluded but my husband looooves watching the action happen in the kitchen so he was a huge fan. The interior of this place is ridiculously cute and honestly, you'll love being seated almost anywhere in this spot. We wanted to order...large parts of the entire menu but stayed civilized and tried to order within reason. We went with the grilled broccolini, the Kennebec fries, the butternut squash agnolotti, and the roasted mushroom pizza. I'm going to tell you now, everything was so good it was ridiculous. The broccolini had great flavor and just a little bit of a bite left; great texture and taste. The fries were piping hot and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. I am obsessed with fries so let me tell you, when I love them its true love. The agnolotti was so buttery and well balanced. 10/10 would again. And last but not least the pizza was delicious! Esp the arugula pesto which added a dark little touch to the end of the palate. I have about 25 other things on the menu I want to try so best believe we'll return to this spot. Sometimes you're scrolling through yelp and you see a tasty looking picture of a pizza and you had just been talking about pizza for dinner and the spot is only a few blocks away and so, sure, why not, let's give it a shot. If you're me, you're probably in jeans and maybe it was rainy and so you're also pretty damp and then you open the door and realize that maybe you overswung a little with your restaurant choice for a end-of-a-long-weekend casual last meal kind of situation. But it's raining and you're here and that pizza looked good so, let's just see what they can do for us. The folks at the host stand were SO nice and rustled up two seats at the bar right away and no one mentioned the fact that we were a TAD under dressed and more than a tad damp. We are cocktail enthusiasts and there were so many delicious looking cocktails. Normally we each get something different so we can taste twice as many things but the Nightingale Martini sounded amazing and I am a sucker for Grey Whale gin so we both got that. It was not quite as exciting as I was hoping-- as I couldn't taste any of the briny sea notes promised on the menu but gin with a Makrut lime leaf is also tasty. We moved on to wine with our Pizza but were a little surprised at the lack of DOCG wines on their list, which skews heavily toward local-ish options. Nevertheless we enjoyed the wine our waiter recommended. We considered not ordering the pizza when we looked over the whole menu (the risk of doing so little planning before arrival) But, in the end, desire for pizza won out and we went with the Margherita and an order of the cauliflower hummus. Both were delicious! Note that while Nightingale touts Neapolitan style pizzas these are not a true AVPN style. The crust is beautiful and delicious but also notably sour. They are also a bit heavy handed with the cheese (probably most people prefer this). But, if you set aside the non-traditional nature-- the pizza is excellent. I beautiful, sourdough crust, cooked to crackly charred blistered perfection. The hummus dish was also wonderful. A little herby oil and pickled celery perfectly complimented the smokey hummus and perfectly grilled toasts. Had I known this was an award-winning restaurant with a nod from the Michelin folks, I would not have selected it for this particular occasion. Nevertheless, we departed full of delicious pizza, hummus, and martinis and regret nothing. I'm excited to re-visit and dive deeper into both food and cocktail menus. read more

After a little over a year, I recently dined once again at this lovely restaurant close to where I was staying in the Coal Harbor Area. We were originally a party of 8 but at the last minute one menber was not able to make it. We learned when you have 8 or more guests they have a pre-fixe menu but since we were one less they gave us the a la carte menu which as you can see from my pictures from my last visit, the dishes are meant to be shared. NIghtingale is a fun and vibrant place and great for a group of our size or for a special occassion with a date. Highly recommend if you are staying in the area and will be back again. read more

Nightingale has one of the best happy hour offering I've experienced in recent years across several major cities. Apart from the interesting cocktails, the food menu is much more vegetable forward than is typical. Of the ten food items on the HH menu only three had any meat in them. I had the Paperplane, a bourbon based cocktail, that was delicious. My wife had the Portuguese white wine -- also delicious. We then shared the marinated olives, the beet salad, and the margherita pizza. All were superb. We finally came to try (after countless recommendations). I am a pizza lover so it is only natural to come to a joint that does pizza rights. We came for happy hour and it was busy!!! The place is located in a gorgeous heritage building, with 2 floors and if you are lucky to sit upstairs, you get to see the pizza ovens and all that action! We started with the Kennebec fries, tomato, malt vinegar aioli. This dish is so unique and tastes just like ketchup chips! The malt dip is unique and such a great pairing. I personally wish the fries were a bit crispier as they were soft but over all, great dish! We also got Cauliflower hummus, chermoula, pickled celery, fife sourdough. The bread is heavenly and the hummus was thick with texture (which I prefer). So much flavor and the oil bath it was in was so flavorful. I wasn't a huge fan of the pickled celery. Than we go their Roasted brussels sprouts, green onion, thai chili vinaigrette. Don't skip this dish. The brussels are bright and perfectly cooked, the sauce is so flavorful and really needed more of it to bathe the brussels! Don't skip this one! We also got the Charred savoy cabbage, miso, soy, honey. I love cabbage but this one was not for me. It was very rich and a bit too salty. Lastly for food, we got the Roasted mushroom, fontina, confit garlic, arugula pesto. Huge chunks of soft and spreadable garlic, the mushrooms are so delicious, and the pesto is such a nice touch. I would have liked more of it because it was so good! That crust is teeth sinkable and so delicious! Great pizza! Nightingale can be easily missed from the outside, but once you step inside, you'll be transformed to rustic meets modern design with a cozy feel. Walls have mounted avian figurines, the bar is adorned with bird cages, and ceilings have hanging wagon wheel style chandeliers. I stopped by on a rainy weekday at 9 PM for a late dinner one hour before closing, and the restaurant was still full of patrons. There was no wait to sit at the bar. I started off with the Bramble cocktail (CA$15), which was gin, blackberry, and lemon. It was a delicious balance of sweet and tart. For a side, I opted for the grilled broccolini with calabrian chili vinaigrette, parmesan, parsley (CA$16), which was tender but not overcooked, had a good amount of char for smokey flavors, and was mildly spicy from the chili. And for the main, I tried the spaghetti with manila clams, jalapeno, scallion, white wine (CA$24), which was really good but a bit on the oily side. Trendy restaurant at DT Vancouver. We went there for a anniversary dinner, but did not have the best experience. We arrived on a rainy night, and when we were lining up to be seated. The hostess saw a couple behind us, seems to be a regular couple, and she offered to seat them right away in the bar. She completely ignored the fact that there were other people lining up in front of them. When it was our turn, our bar seats option was offered at first by another hostess, but quickly rescindid, because her co worker has jumped the line and offered it to regulars. We were told we have to wait 10 mins. I was not feeling it, and confronted the hostess who gave the seats away, she did apologized, and her coworkers helped her out and gave us a four people table right away in order to remedy the situation. I thank her coworkers, and I think she is lucky to have smart and fast acting coworkers. As for the food, we walked in knowing this is a fusion, more creative place. However, with the high start rating here, I would imagine they have their flavors figured out. We ordered 5 dishes, the Japanese yam dish is absolutely a 5 star dish, Delicious! the pork belly 4, the pork cheek 3.5, the cauliflower 1.5, and mushroom crab on toast was 2. The hummus did not fit with the Chinese style pork cheek flavors, cauliflower was way too acidic, the crab and mushrooms just does NOT match. We had a really nice lunch at Nightingale; the fact that they serve the same menu all day/evening was a draw for us. The space is open and airy - the seating is nicely spread out, which makes for a surprisingly-intimate conversational environment. No inadvertent eavesdropping here. We ordered the Caesar, fried chicken, branzino, salmon, and a side of roasted carrots. All were well-prepared and delicious. I really loved the Caesar - the crunchy romaine/breadcrumb topping/white anchovies/generous shower of parm = A+ version of a classic. The salmon was a real winner, too (the temp was just this side of mid-rare - my favorite). The branzino was tasty, but the herb topping made the skin a bit soggy - I would have served that on the side. The carrots were great; loved the Mediterranean flavors. The fried chicken was maybe my least favorite of the items (although still pretty good). There was a little too much breading on it for my liking. This place is a not to be missed treat in Vancouver. There is such great energy and a casual elegance among not only the patrons but the staff as well. It was nearly impossible to get a reservation at a reasonable time, but a very effective concierge at our hotel snagged a good time for dinner. The room is beautiful with a multi-story space with lots of natural light and a very pleasing design leaning on the contemporary with a bit of historic touch in a very attractive classic building. The reception was very engaging and friendly, and professional as well. We were greeted and seated in a cozy corner right away. The room is loud, so expect with the hard surfaces that conversation may be a bit difficult but not a problem. What I enjoyed was that the wait staff is so friendly and yet very professional. I felt they never missed a beat in service. They let us eat at our own pace, we were not rushed, and they constantly checked on water and provisions without being bothersome. Plus, the dishes arrived like choreographed clockwork. Why can't every restaurant be like it? It made the meal ever so enjoyable. We were informed, as we were new to the establishment, that all the dishes were intended to be shared. How cool is that? You get to try a variety of things and make the meal less formal. Water came immediately in a bottle with glasses, and I ordered a martini, custom made, and my better half a pisco sour (not on the drink menu). I later had a very delicious and refreshing glass of Italian Savignon Blanc. Starting off with a kale salad, it was absolutely splendid. So fresh and well-made, the entire complexity of ingredients worked perfectly together. The salad choices were very good, and this one stood out. A light amount of cheese (aged gouda) and dressing did not overpower the greens and radish. The pumpkin seeds added a lot to it. We went on to share a pizza and selected the chorizo. It was excellent. Not like my favored New York style, this pizza, wood fired, was a gourmet style with the thinnest crust imaginable, yet very well made and prepared. The chorizo was sliced paper thin, and the taste was amazing. The bit of honey drizzle made it stand out in taste and complexity. The small pieces of pepperochino added even more to it. One comment to be made is that they could do a better job of cutting the slices. It was difficult to pull apart without some vigorous cutting. Going on, we shared a 'large plate' of the squid ink pasta (radiatori) with small prawns, artichoke, and calabrian chili (sliced ever so small) Along with it, we had the Maui short ribs that came with a carrot and daikon shredded side. The miso dressing was excellent. Both large dishes were wonderful and very filling, tasty, and well prepared. The only criticism I have of the pasta was that the red sauce was a bit heavy and overbearing on the dish. The ribs, however, were seasoned well and delicate. Although dessert was alluring, we were quite satisfied and decided to call it quits. By the time we were leaving, the room was packed and vibrant with diners in lively conversation. Again, the energy of the place was great. And they have a fabulous bar area, packed as well. Overall, it was a very good experience, and although a bit on the pricey side, it is worth every Canadian cent (oh, they don't have those!). Made a reservation for a Thursday evening. The ambiance was nice. Our waiter was friendly, and he explained the menu. It is a small plates style with a recommended 4 dishes for 2 people. We got the focaccia ($9), eggplants ($16), veal tongue ($24), and branzino ($46). My favorites were the focaccia and branzino. The focaccia was warm, and it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was a little on the salty side though. The branzino was super tender, but the chimichurri sauce was a little too spicy for me. The eggplants were solid, but nothing too outstanding. We enjoyed everything we ate an drank which included the Friendship Bracelet cocktail, kale salad, roasted Brussels sprouts, roasted cauliflower, focaccia and the whole branzino (watch out for bones!) Everything was seasoned well and not overly dressed or overcooked which I appreciate because I like to taste each veggie instead them being so sauce forward. We spent six days in Vancouver and had lunch at Nightingale twice. Needless to say, we thought it was exceptional. The ambience, the food and the staff were exactly what we expected if not surpassing our expectations.
