Japanese sweet potato
Diana P.

We came for dinner with reservations for the chef's table. Sitting right along the kitchen gave us a clear view into the rhythm of service. Watching plates come together and seeing what other diners ordered added an extra layer of fun that you don't get at a standard table. From our visit, the roasted mushroom pizza stood out. I loved the combination of confit garlic, fontina, and arugula pesto. It hit a nice balance of earthy, creamy, and slightly peppery, and the crust had that ideal chew with a crisp edge. We also ordered the baked Japanese sweet potato which leaned simple but satisfying. It was soft with an almost custardy texture. The pork belly with chicharron was tender but definitely one of the heavier dishes of the night. Service was excellent. Dishes arrived at a comfortable pace, and the team seemed in sync with the kitchen, which you especially notice when you're sitting right in front of it. The interior had warm lighting, clean design, and just enough buzz to feel lively without being chaotic. The restaurant is large and I would recommend for small and large groups alike! Most importantly, don't skip dessert! One of the highlights of the night for sure.

One of the nice restaurants in Vancouver with unique bird cages on top of their bar area. Initially, I thought they wouldn't be family friendly but I was wrong. They have kids menu which included their famous pizza so obviously we ordered the pepperoni one for our son. The pizza itself was really good. It was thin and flavorful but the pepperoni was rather hot for my young son. We bunch a few appetizers and one entree. We loved their Argentinian shrimp which was so flavorful. We also tried their famous buttermilk fried chicken served with maple syrup. The batter was light and was fried perfectly (not oily). We also ordered the kale salad which came as generous serving. We ordered the trout as our entree. The trout was by far our least favorite; it was rather fishy for us. We wrapped up dinner with their carrot cake which was rather dry for my taste but the hubby loved it. Our waitress was great and very friendly.

Good spot for business gatherings (at least most of the customers appeared to be). Service is great no complaints. We ordered kanpachi, seared tuna, crispy duck salad and Argentinian prawns. Kanpachi is too salty, cant really taste flavor of the fish. Seared tuna is pretty good, liked the crunchy bits for extra texture. Crispy duck is flavorful. Prawns are tender and flavorful.

Amazing random dinner find in Vancouver! Everything was closed as we were looking for a late night dinner and then we came across this place which was still busy on a Monday night. We got seated at the bar which was great and the menu is a good mix of high end and casual . Really cool moody dark place inside with minimal lighting! We had a Negroni and espresso martini as our cocktails which were on point and perfectly made, and they bought out some of the best focaccia I've ever had . With big airy holes and a nice tomato cheese topping. Excellent. Next we tried the rigatoni with classic Arribatta sauce and whipped ricotta and basil oil. Another great dish. Not complicated but so tasty. Loved the freshness. The basil oil was a good touch. The prosciutto pizza with cherry tomatoes and arugula and mozzarella was another delicious serve. Great thin crust and delicious toppings and plentiful. Dessert we tried the salted caramel pot du creme with vanilla and butterscotch. Wow! So good! Creamy and thick and sweet. This was just the perfect place to end our night with satisfying food and full tummies. A hidden gem for sure.

Pro tip: if you are a party of two, book the chef's table. It has a great view of the kitchen. Elegant, yet low key date restaurant, great for a date or a nice dinner with friends. Ambiance - 5 stars - modern, chic, good lighting. Service - 5 starts - friendly, prompt, relaxed, and organized. Food - 5 stars - well executed, creative flavor combinations. The 100 layer lasagna and hamachi crudo are a must. We will definitely come back each time we visit Vancouver.

Nightingale is a nice restaurant located between Burrard and Canada Place. It has a nice mix of italian and international dishes. Went there for lunch with colleagues and shared 3 pizzas. Really loved the spicy spianata salumi, piquillo pepper, san marzano tomato pizza. The crust was perfect and lovely overall flavours. The San daniele prosciutto, cherry tomato, arugula, mozzarella pizza was also quiet good, a bit more healthy but the arugula takes a bit of the flavour. The roasted chanterelle mushroom, spinach, mozzarella, fontina pizza had the least flavours and felt less interesting to eat but was still good overall. Service was fast and atmosphere relaxed. It was quiet busy for being the 2nd of January. A good place for lunch if you work Downtown.

For our last dinner in Vancouver, we decided to try Nightingale since it's highly rated and I'm glad we did. The food was delicious and service was good. We enjoyed our meal. Make reservations on OpenTable and if it's for two, book the Chef's table. It's different than your typical chef's table because you're seated at booth with a view of the kitchen. Ordered: -kanpachi crudo -roasted brussels sprouts -buttermilk fried chicken -spaghetti with manila clams -grilled bavette steak They gave us 2 cookies to take home and they were one of the best cookies I've ever had. I'll be back!

Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Food: 5/5 I love this place! I've come twice now and have had a great experience both times. The most recent time was to celebrate my friend and I's birthday so we booked a reservation for a Friday night. I was seated right away while I waited for my friend to arrive. The food is meant to be share plates so the sever recommended 3-4 for the 2 of us. We went with the broccolini, focaccia, sweet potatoes and rigatoni to share. Everything was phenomenal! They do a really good job at elevating even the most basic items by using complex spices and sauces which I really appreciate. Sweet potatoes are never my favourite but it turned out to be our favourite dish, followed closely by the focaccia which was a great portion size and perfect in texture and taste. I will say that as a vegetarian, the pasta is the only large plate on the menu that's available but there are tons of smaller plates that are veg-friendly so you won't go hungry. The restaurant itself is beautiful - lots of space and they offer a coat check as well. Our server was nice and prompt, and she even gave us cookies to go as a birthday treat which were divine! Overall I love this spot for an upscale dinner and would happily come back.

Food is fantastic! Service is efficient and this is a great place to dine family style if you want to try more dishes. The food is quality and prepared with care! The lobster linguine is a must as is the fried chicken. There wasn't anything we ordered that we didn't like here! But those two definitely stand out. I prefer upstairs seating as it's more like a dining room and you can a sit across from the kitchen. Downstairs is more traffic but the bar is there. So it depends on what kind of an experience you want.

Rigatoni all'arrabbiata 5/5

One of the best meals I've had in my LIFE! I love when restaurants serve food family style and really enjoyed the way they paced our meal. For our table of 2, we ordered 4 dishes. The first 2 dishes came out individually and were replaced shortly after we finished them - it was perfectly timed. Then our pastas came out together. 1) Buttermilk fried chicken 5/5: So tender and juicy. Not overly sweet or salty, with both these flavors complementimg each other so well. 2) Baked Japanese sweet potato 5/5: The sweet potato was cooked perfectly. It was crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. The toppings were delicious. 3) Manila clam spaghetti 5/5: Best seafood pasta we've had! 4) Rigatoni all'arrabbiata 5/5: Noodles were perfectly al dente. The sauce was cream, also bright and fresh. I absolutely love a tangy tomato sauce, and this was just that (even with the ricotta mixed in!). We went on a weekday afternoon and the restaurant was lively, seemingly filled with business people on their lunch breaks. Despite being busy, the restaurant wasn't chaotic??? We had a reservation and were sat upstairs, which I was happy about because the decor of the restaurant is also something to be appreciated. I have no critiques on any of the food items and truly nothing negative to say about this restaurant. The service and entire experience was great from start to finish. This is one of my favorite restaurants I've ever been to, and I highly recommend coming here. Going to be yearning for this food until I'm back in Vancouver!

Crispy chicken
Leanne M.

Great food. Make sure you have a reservation as this place is popular Small plate style. You order different dishes and share. We ordered the fried chicken..... moist and crispy such a great combination The beet salad was okay, I enjoyed it but would pick another plate as there are so many great choices. The prosciutto and arugula pizza was PERFECT. The crust was exactly how I love it. The noise level is really high. Not a place for a romantic quiet interlude. Why worry about romance when the food is great

Food, service and ambiance was excellent. I really enjoyed their pasta dishes and pizza. Nightingale is on my list of preferred downtown restaurant because of its consistencies in food taste. And yes, it's recommended to make a reservation since it gets quite busy, even on weeknights. Great choice for fun night out, for special occasions, for casual or business meetups. It's a good place to bring out of town guests when visiting Vancouver downtown and my only notes for visitors may be it can be loud upstairs so may not be ideal for serious conversations or seniors and do budget time and costs for downtown parking when driving. Easy walk via SkyTrain or for guests staying in downtown and a good dining choice to walk over from the Vancouver Convention Centre. Bon appetit!!

I had been here previously during a girl's trip last year. We enjoyed the food, but were a bit put off by how loud and hectic it was. This time I dined earlier and had a fantastic experience at Nightingale! My husband and I were able to walk in and were seated fairly quickly (we sat near the hallway upstairs by the service station, but that was fine with us!). We appreciated that our server (Meghan?) was efficient and attentive without hoovering. She knew the ins and outs of the menu and made thoughtful recommendations. We started with a half-bottle of Pinot Gris and the seared tuna, which paired beautifully. The menu is full of unique dishes, and we were particularly impressed with the cauliflower--it's a simple vegetable jazzed up with a complex and delicious flavor profile. I also loved the seared salmon and the sauce which appeared to have golden raisins mixed in for a bit of sweetness. Dessert was the perfect finale! My husband loved his after-dinner coffee drink, but I can't stop thinking about the peaches and cream cheesecake. The combination of orange curd and Earl Grey crumb was incredible and made for a truly special end to our meal. I usually don't like tapas style dining, especially when you're pushed to order many dishes or the plates have no theme. *** Nightingale knows what they are doing and the team skillfully avoids the common mistakes found in similar restaurants. ***

My daughter and I got hooked on to Acai bowls recently so this place was on my radar for awhile…read moresince I knew that they have Acai bowls on their menu. Managed to get to this place over the weekend. Having tried this place I think we've tried pretty much every spot on the North Shore now that serves Acai bowls. This was a pretty good one. A good combination of ingredients in the bowl. Not too big a serving, but not too small a serving either. Super tasty! The bowl actually looked a bit on the small side to me when I got it. After eating it though, I felt more than sufficently filled. My daughter got the Berry Bliss Acai while I got the 'Ohana Luv Acai. My bowl had some kind of bright blue sauce on it. Wish I'd asked what made it blue. We both ordered drinks as well. My daughter had the 5 Moons Chai and I had the Healer. Whoa...they are quite heavy handed with using ginger in their drinks. I enjoyed my drink but I think there was too much ginger for my daughter's taste. It was like the kind of ginger drink that I sometimes boil at home when one of us gets sick and we need something to soothe our sore throat. Recommend the Acai Bowl. I'd be wary of the warm tonic drinks. Great if you like ginger! Uggghh, they took away free parking on Lonsdale Ave.! I had to park a bit further off just to find a one hour free parking spot.

Here's what our 1st visit looked like: * Bohemian Soul Bowl (excellent) * Wild At Heart Bowl (so good I got this again the next day after tackling the Grouse Grind!) * Be Green Smoothie (refreshing, fresh, loved that it had spirulina) * Raw Cinnamon Roll (had to try it, was like cinnamon cookie dough) As mentioned, we came back the next day after hiking Grouse Grind, hitting the spot again in the best way! 2nd visit was all about: * Wild at Heart Bowl (again!) * Coastal Vibes Bowl (another winner) * The Grind smoothie (in honor of just completing Grouse Grind) * Soul Starter (warm tonic with loads of health properties) * Tiramisu (because it was my husband's birthday that day!) The staff here was very friendly both visits, and we can't wait to come back the next time we're in town! Big thank you to the lady (possible one of the owners or managers) who noticed we were overcharged for one of the items and corrected it while we were enjoying our meal. Thanks so much!

We discovered AJ's while trying to find deep dish or Detroit pizza in Vancouver and all I want to…read moresay is that it is one of the best Detroit pizzas I have had, ever. It checks all of the boxes: thick, chewy, crispy, cheesy, saucy. One of my favorite pizzas is Detroit style pizza, which I actually discovered in Los Angeles, where I tried at no less than five different places. Most were really good, but AJ's Detroit pizza humbled all of the ones that are still there. I could have eaten half of it by myself. (The leftovers re-heated great and were just as satisfying the next day.) Note that AJ's regular pizza is great as well, but don't pass up the opportunity to enjoy their Detroit style.

When the pizza comes straight out of that oven, piping hot and bubbly, it's an absolute revelation. Especially that Detroit style with the frico. Oh, man, is it ever good, and enough that you can cut the abrupt and often rude service some slack. Delivery from AJ's, by contrast, is one of the biggest mistakes you will ever make, as it's often painfully slow (like 90 min-2 hr slow). So, by the time your order arrives, and assuming you received the right order, it's often a lukewarm, rock hard and/or greasy mess and unrecognizable compared to what you can get dining in. For the price, you might as well light the money on fire. I haven't been back in a while because I've made it a rule not to order from here unless I have the time to physically go and eat it there. It is worth it to pay the premium for the product if you're going to consume it within a few minutes of it coming out of the oven. Otherwise, take a pass.
