I've been to Sura many times before, but mainly for their lunch special ($25 for a whole variety of dishes and pork bbq - pretty worth it!). This was probably the first time I came to eat during their dinner service, as a friend was dying to go and is a frequent lover of their menu. Overall, I have to say I was pleasantly impressed with their bbq. We ordered the marinated royal beef galbi and the premium royal beef galbi. The meat was tender and delicious. Their pork belly was good, but I really enjoyed the pink pickled radish on the side. Tofu soup was hearty and spicy, but the portion is on the smaller end (serves one small bowl to 5 people). Their rice cakes were delicious - perfectly soft and chewy with various seafood and fish cakes in the spicy sauce. I've personally had better pancakes, but my friend loves their seafood pancake and says it's her favourite. The side dishes really stood out to me. There were the classics (potato, kimchi, bean sprouts), but there were also other delicious dishes that I normally don't have, such as the crab and corn salad and various pickled vegetables. Honestly, they made great palate cleansers and made the meal so much more enjoyable. Service was prompt and smooth. The total was about $50 per person, which is not bad at all considering we were beyond stuffed. I think I would definitely choose other bbq places if I were willing to travel, but Sura is a great, reliable spot in a convenient location. read more

The lunch special portions are smaller, but the dinner sized one, we have leftovers. Seafood Pancake: 9/10, 4.5 stars. Our favourite one overall; some Korean seafood pancakes have crispier batter, some others have more seafood at the cost of batter cohesion. This strikes a nearly perfect balance, and the seafood is perfectly cooked. Their half kimchi pancake is also tasty (including with the lunch set) Kimchi Fried Rice: my favourite fried rice. Slightly spicy from the kimchi (gochujang) but with beef and a runny fried egg on top. 10/10 5 stars. Sides: in particular, I really like the Sweet & Spicy Gochujang salad, the soy bean curd slices, the sweet soy potatoes (when they have them). When we went, they were running a CNY promotion: 20% off except on the set lunches, 27% off takeout, started Jan 26th. We've eaten here many times, they haven't disappointed yet. We had a big group of 11 people and I didn't know they take reservations. We did have to do 2 tables since they don't have a table that big. I haven't been to Sura in years but everything was very tasty! We had the Pork Galbi which came in a pretty big portion with a sweet marinade. Definitely enough for 2-3 people. Also had the rice cakes, seafood pancake and bossam (small size) and some new beef patty things that you grill briefly. I really liked the layout of this place. It was clean and actually Korean. I had the beef kalbi and it was good. Quality of meat was nice but I felt like the marinade was a little bit on the strong stronger size side for the thickness of the meat. I really enjoyed the rib fingers because I felt like I could actually taste the natural taste of the meat and if you wanted to add to it, you could dip it in the various sauces provided. Banchan was good. I dont see many places, at least down south of the border that offers banchan like garlic, stems crab salad. It was actually a nice treat. We walked in near the opening time on a weekend, we were seated and then the restaurant quickly filled up afterwards. The interior is modern and minimally decorated, but it feels quite cozy and has traditional table settings with brightly coloured cushions for sitting. I loved the little pop of colour everywhere. The staff came by and gave us hot barley tea right away. We had just visited South Korea recently and drank barley tea often, so this was such a welcome and comforting drink. We decided to try the $25 lunch set (per person and minimum 2 people to order). There was SO much variety and food, it was amazing. I loved the Congee, Herb Pork Belly, Tangsuyuk or Sweet & Sour Pork, and of course the Grilled Pork Galbi! The congee had a creamy thick texture and it was lightly savoury. The perfect complement to the other more seasoned dishes. The Pork Belly was flavourful, rich, fatty and paired so nicely with the pickled radish. The Tangsuyuk was crispy, had a light batter, and a deliciously tangy but sweet sauce. The Chinese version is one of my childhood favourite dishes, and this Korean version of the classic dish was definitely very enjoyable. Lastly, one of our favourites were the Royal Pork Galbi that we were able to grill ourselves. We loved grilling it to our preferred level of charredness and the meat was so tender and flavourful. Wise move, they do charge 0.50 cents for each takeout container. So bring some of your own in case you cannot finish the food. Go in with an empty stomach & big appetite! Got recommended this place by several friends, and it definitely lived up to expectations! It's located in the aberdeen mall on the corner, so it's fun to digest and walk around Hmart/other stores. The royal kalbi was amazing and super tender; the portion was pretty good for the price! Highly recommend the galbitang as well. We tried this restaurant inside Aberdeen Mall first floor. Place gets busy. Inside decor is nice. Almost looks like Japanese seats with cushion. Place is not too smokey with their high ceiling. Staff was nice and attentive. Food was decent. Meat was flavorful but not as tender. Maybe we overcooked. We got the premium beef galbi amd marinated pork. We also ordered Japchae, seafood pancake, tofu soup with beef (should order with seafood instead), and green salad. We shouldn't have ordered the green salad since they provide a small salad as one of their sides. We also like their fish cake side but other sides we didn't like as much like kim chi, daikon, and mackarel. They refill the sides upon your request. Passed by Sura Korean BBQ in Aberdeen Center on a dozen occasions and always wondered why there was always a line up? With the pandemic lowering the number of dine in patrons, finally decided to give this place a try. There was no line up, but the hostess still recommended reservations. Before our entrée came, we were first served the customary side dishes (potato cubes in sweet sauce, sweet beans, and kimchi). It was cold outside so me and my date decided to try their "Gum-Ja Tung" potato soup with pork bone. The soup was served in a hot pot filled with vegetables, glass noodles, and pork bone. Our waitress used tongs and mixed all the ingredients for us for the initial mix and advised us to keep stirring once the soup starts boiling to bring out all the flavours. The pot was of a good portion size and plenty for two (our pot had 6 pork bones!!!). The soup had a kick but was not overpowering. I've had "Gum-Ja Tung" at other establishments and I would say it's just about average. Really looking forward to coming back to try their BBQ items. Ambiance is definitely contemporary with an abundant of oak wood panelling, marble countertops and LED lighting. Wait staff were nice and checked on us on a couple of occasions to refill our teas and our side dishes. There are plenty of free parking in the mall's parking lot. read more

Sura has been around for a very long time and I had lunch there maybe twice, but ever since the pandemic hit and I've only been ordering takeout, I've had Sura at least 6 times. I really enjoy their food and they're available on ubereats. By far the best value items I think they have are the hot pots. I've tried all 3 in the small size ($35), and I'd say either the pork bone hotpot or beef and mushroom hotpot are my favourites, depending if I feel like spicy or not. The pork bone flavour is really good, and if it's too spicy you can add more broth and make it a meal for days. The beef hotpot is also very tasty and the beef slices are very good quality. We typically like to add our own extra veggies and hotpot toppings so it can easily serve 5-6 people. The Korean army hotpot is alright as well, but the soup isn't as tasty. I do like the variety of items it comes with though. Oh, and the hotpots all come with two bowls of rice, potato noodles and banchan. I've also had their rice cakes. The royal rice cake ($22) is a little better I think, very tasty with really good quality beef pieces. The spicy one ($20) is very good as well, but it only comes with some fish cake. Can't go wrong with either. The beef short rib soup ($16) and bibimbap ($15) are just okay. Pork bone soup comes in an individual portion for $17, I think the hotpot size is a better deal. Dishes I would pass on would be the ginseng chicken soup ($29)(bland) and royal galbi short rib ($42). The short rib is a really small portion for the price. I guess the quality is supposed to be good? However the beef that cake with the royal rice cakes was more tender and tasty for some reason. In terms of service, I've always had a good experience. They're helpful on the phone (when you can get a hold of them) and once the ubereats order somehow got cancelled last minute (not by either of us) but they let me pick up the food anyway. Sometimes they are willing to swap the beans banchan with something else but recently they haven't been able to. I will definitely be ordering from them again, especially their hotpot. Their food is very tasty and I'd recommend checking them out for sure. read more

The food here has always been delicious and graciously served, meats were well marinated and fresh, plenty of side dishes and staffs are always on standby for helps needed. We always go here for their lunch set which I think is one of their best deal for a price of $25 each person you will already be so full for the serving was just right with a variety of side dishes meats, soup, fish and veggies. And I like the Korean rice punch they serve after meal. Went as well once for the dinner set and it was almost like a festive for the amount of food. They also have other single serving if you don't prefer bbq set such as bibimbap which is one of my favourite from them. The noodle dish was refreshing and full of great texture...the noodles had a bouncy chew, broth was chilled so perfectly with some crushed ice pieces, thin slices of cucumber, a nice think hunk of watermelon & half of a hardboiled egg. Our meet was the perfect size for the 2 of us & the quality was great, well marinated & tender. We got to grill it ourselves to our liking so we had some crispy, burnt edges that were so tasty...yum! I rate Korean restaurants by their banchan & Sura did NOT disappoint. They served us Napa kimchi that was a little on the fresher side, not too fermented, but still good, med size salad with romaine & mungbean sprouts with a Gochujung drizzle, sweet & savory simmered potatoes, a stewed down eggplant dish, but my FAVORITE was the chunks of daikon simmered to the perfect texture in a broth that was gingery and slightly fishy...it was bright red but not spicy, I LOVED it! The perfect spot for a light meal but if you are hungry...you can really get a great variety with quality fresh ingredients with one of their set menus...I'm pretty sure they have a dinner one too but they also have so much to choose from including hot pots that come in small or large sizes! We got the royal marinated galbi and it is so tender and juicy. Hands down and all time favorite is the galbitang . It's so flavorful and rich -- unlike many other galbitang I've ever had. The seafood pancake is also very good -- not too fried and oily as some of the other places.
