Stumbled onto this place as we were driving around and was coincidentally craving korean bbq. They are authentic, Korean owned. What we really liked about this place was that they had the mesh grill, which grills bbq meat the best, without the meat drowning in the sauce. We really enjoyed their brisket, marinated bulgogi, and plain beef, which we ate with sesame oil, salt and pepper. Some other dishes we liked were steamed eggs, kim chi pancake, bibimbap, and corn cheese, all of which were really tasty. Service was nice and fast. read more

Was looking for an all you can eat kbbq place and this was the most recommended place online. They have multiple tiers for AYCE, it was our first time here so we just got the AYCE menu A. The meats come in thin slices. I do wish that it came flat instead of in rolls so it would be easier to lay flat on the grill. I also found that the marinated meats weren't really marinated because the marinade was just poured on top of the rolls. So the inside of the meat and anything on the bottom didn't get any sauce. The grill was also new for me. The heating elements are on the sides, which meant anything put on the middle of the grill cooked super slowly. A very typical Korean Bbq restaurant. Had the fire pit set in the middle of the table. Service was good. The iPad is easy to order from and the food came out quickly. My colleague and I wanted to catch up and I suggested this place as recently won a $50 gift card there. My friend wanted to do AYCE and we actually got there with 10 minutes to spare for their Happy Hour. We decided on the more expensive Happy Hour AYCE option ($37.99/person). The servers were really friendly and joked with us. Service was prompt and with smiles all around. AYCE seating time is supposed to be limited to 90 minutes but they let us stay for 2 hours on a Friday, which was really nice. The ordering time is a hour but they wrote down for us our ordering time window, which was really nice. Menu is mainly limited to pork and the cuts of pork wasn't the best but everything else was fresh and pretty good quality for AYCE. The grill was interesting- when it's on it works great but once you turn it off, it's hard to turn it back on. With my $50 winning, the bill came to $29.95 including tax but no tip. I thought it was very generous and kind of them to let us apply the $50 winning towards a Happy Hour menu so made sure to tip them quite generously. Cute joint with good friendly service and decent AYCE at a great Downtown address. I can see why this place is so busy. Went as a group of 4 over the weekend - we tried AYCE MENU B $42.99/PERSON - Didn't take too many pictures as we were just starving - the meat quality is definitely worth it - Steak Spice, Green Tea, Lemon Pepper, and Spicy were probably my favorites :) The Tuna Torch Sushi was heavenly as well as the pancake - They lost a star for me due to service - they were not the most attentive, and it honestly was not super busy at the time we were there - felt like it toke ages for us to get refills on water. We were craving Korean bbq and stumbled into this place. This was such a great find. We order Combo Beef B that feeds 3, there were 4 of us and we ate all of it. Service was great and fast. Spot was recommended all over social media but was really disappointing. The AYCE menu was really limited. We originally chose option A ($44 per person)but there were no beef options(just pork) and only limited to a few sides (extra for ramen, lettuce, garlic jalepenos, spicy cucumber). We decided to change to option B ($55 per person), and only meat added was beef belly and cheese corn butter for sides. Although the meat was delicious the price point and menu option was not it. Compared to other places at this price point already, you are already in the Premuim menu with all pork cuts, beef (waygu, galbi, steaks), seafood, and many more sides dishes that should be normally included. The food was decent but nothing extraordinary. Despite the restaurant boasting a 4.5-star rating on Google with over 5,000 reviews, my experience didn't live up to the hype. From what I've seen in Vancouver, Google reviews here can be misleading. I wouldn't choose to return to this place. Pretty disappointing. Service was dreadfully slow starting off but it got better. Overpriced for the food you get. I get that's it's in the heart of downtown Vancouver, but there's a part of me where I think the money could have been better spent elsewhere. The meat was average quality and the side dishes were nothing to write home about. On the bright side, it did fit our group of 8 people and did get enough to eat. Came in on a Wednesday night, lucky to find a metered parking right outside the restaurant! Not busy at all as there were only 2 other tables at the time when we arrive, we were promptly seated after we use our cellphone to register our info. for Covid purposes, glad they are doing this! Also noticed that all the tables are spaced apart and has partitions! Menu is also electronic but maybe their system is down or something, we tried and with the help of our server still can't open it, oh well, that's high tech sometimes! After we received our "real" menu, we decided to try out their top 3 popular meats: Beef Ribs, Ox Tongue & Pork Belly, our server Moon has been wonderful and very helpful, he also explained to us how some items compares to others etc. I have to say the Beef Rib is a must order when you come! The marinate is just right, not too sweet or salty! The marbling is well balanced, hence the natural tenderness! We loved it so much that we ordered a second! Ox tongue were ok, if they were sliced a bit thicker, also love their Pork Belly, as you can tell they do use high quality meat, they all have a natural sweetness even the pork has no seasoning at all! Just sprinkle a bit of the salt they provide and its already perfection! BBQ meals comes with: side dishes ( replenishable ), japchae, seafood pancake, savoury steamed custard. We were told if you wish rice it is $2.00 each and it comes with a bean paste soup. Food was pretty good, but the service of this place really needs some work. Came here for a birthday dinner and made a reservation during happy hour. When we walked in, they only handed us the regular menu. We had to specifically request to be given the happy hour menu before they begrudgingly gave it to us. It made us feel as if you didn't know it was happy hour, the business would've gladly charged full price without letting you know. If you would like to experience the invisibility superpower, I would also recommend this place. Empty dishes were piled up, waters were empty, order forms were ready to be picked up, and each time the servers would walk by as if you didn't exist. You'd wave at them politely, they'd purposely avoid eye contact and walk by staring holes through the wall straight ahead of them. We asked for a refill of hot water no less than 4 times before someone finally came and got it for us. The other thing too is that all of their noodle dishes are overcooked. The noodles taste like they've just been boiled within an inch of their lives and then served. All of the noodle dishes were soggy. Do not recommend. Just eat a bunch of meat and call it a day. They also charged me $50 up front for the reservation, but returned it very promptly after we had our meal. read more

There are a couple of things that need to improve: the stove fire power and their policy about the ceiling fans that have to be on full speed in the back. If you sit by the aisle and you are under the ceiling fan, your stove will NOT cook anything as all the heat will go down. We did ask them if they can turn down the ceiling fan to a slower speed, they told us they can't as the fans need to be on to circulate the air. We also pointed to the fans at the front of the restaurant where the fans were going a slow speed. We asked why are those slow but the ones in back are full speed. They just said it's policy. We had to use some menus to try to cover the stove so that our food would cook. It didn't really work so we had to ask some friends to cook our food on their stove ( they sat on the window side, away from the fan ). Not good when you have a small group of people and are trying to eat. The pork was good once cooked although the green tea flavored pork tasted plain as the green tea just burns off. If my friends want to go back, we will try to get a different table, away from the ceiling fans. read more

We used to drive downtown more often to go to this Dae Bak all you can eat. However, the last few times haven't been as good since the renovation. Given, we have only tried Menu B which is $50 per person. The prices have increased. And they charge $2 for pop non refillable. The servers have also been unable to help us identify which meats they are bringing to our table. What ended up happening was we would reorder the meats we thought we liked only to have different meats brought to us and when we asked about it multiple servers were unsure with what the different meats looked like. The grill is also on the smaller side and still cooks very unevenly even after the renovation. We won't be going back for a while. read more

My brother has been trying to convince me to hit up Dae Bak Bon Ga (DBBG)with him. After much resistance, I luckily agreed and found myself new place AYCE Korean BBQ spot. We went on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was spacious and had k-pop playing in the background. Not very many people at that time. It's rare to find AYCE K-BBQ in Vancouver these days. Most are Japanese-Korean AYCE with minimal BBQ items on the menu. DBBG on the other hand is all Korean. You get your pick of K-BBQ meats and an assortment of Korean dishes including your typical banchan. For our meal, we went with Menu C because we wanted to the beef belly. As for the side dishes, the stewed potatoes were bomb! For the most part, the dishes had a nice flavour. However, don't expect the same quality as non-AYCE like how the seafood pancake was crispy but light on the fillings. Overall, the dishes gave variety and was a nice compliment to the BBQ. I also liked the Japchae and gyoza. In terms of the meat, the quality was good. They offered a variety of flavours for the pork and the beef comes either marinaded or not. However, the choices for cuts were limited. You also have variety of dipping sauces to choose from such as wasabi flavoured, tonkatsu, spicy, and of course the sesame oil with salt and pepper (we had to ask for this). Overall, keeping the limited cuts of meat in mind, it's great value for someone looking to get their fill of AYCE K-BBQ. read more

The side dishes were average at best. - The stove fire was so weak and they need to address it as asap. Per them, it is weak because they don't want customers to burn meats but it should take 5min to grill very thin sliced meats. I believe this has been mentioned by other yelpers as well. Ugly - ordered the combo c k bbq set and it was around $220. However the amount of meats that we got was probably about $50 worth. The menu looked promising but what you get is not even close. Other K bbq places will give you much better quality and much more for $220. And most of them were marinated meats. You don't get to enjoy the quality but forced to eat all soy sauced up meats. The taste was average at best and the set was not worth the money at all. We also ordered a beef noodle dish and it was so mediocre. And we also ordered steam egg and it came out about 40min later. Definitely worth it to come here as the food is great, and pricing is very reasonable while still upholding their food quality/standards. The atmosphere is slightly lacking though. It is an older building, and used to be a karaoke bar/late night place. The place is also quite large, and is probably a bit understaffed due to the pandemic, so it's probably difficult to keep the cleanliness in tip top shape (eg. washroom floors are quite sticky and overall is quite dark and dusty). I definitely still felt safe from a social distancing point of view though, as there is a lot of space between tables, and is situated in a sort of closed off cubicle style dining where there are dense fake grass/foliage/plants/bamboo blocking your view from the other customers. Staff are friendly enough, and quick service but don't expect them to check on you throughout the meal, so you'll have to venture out of your cubicle and wave someone down if you need something. I tried their lunch set for 2, which is about $45 (only valid for dine in between 11:30am - 3pm). Very good portions, it's probably enough to serve 3 people, or even 4 if you aren't planning it as a full meal. Lots of variety, and honestly every dish is quite good by itself. Grilled Beef Short Ribs (LA Galbi) - they grill this in the kitchen and serve it to you fully cooked, marinated super well, tender, and good about of fattiness. One of highlights in the lunch set. Dae Bak's Vegetable Torch Sushi - sooo tasty! Basically aburi, it is well seared on top and you can definitely taste it. There's no meat at all, hence the "vegetable" sushi. It has a delicious sauce too, and something mayo/creamy on top. Sweet Garlic Soy Marinated Deep Fried Boneless Chicken - Pretty standard sweet and a little spicy Pan-Fried Spicy Pork Bulgogi - cooked in the kitchen as well. Not too spicy Stew (Pork Bone) - great personalized sized, rich flavour and lots of stuff/meat inside. It's actually quite filling and the pork bone was massive Sweet Potato Noodle (Japchae): love the texture of these glass noodles. Very authentic flavour, with a strong black pepper and mushroom flavour too. Seafood Pancake: pretty standard, and you get a few slices Bibimbap: classic, nothing special but still good Deep Fried Shrimp - I'll pass on this one, as it wasn't very crunchy and it's pretty greasy Seasoned Cold Noodles - pretty good appi or palate cleanser, it has a light vinegar taste Side Dishes: bean sprouts, kimchi (not to dry, not too spicy, I really liked it), and the potatoes are amazingly. Well marinated, full of flavour and fresh. Comes with a drink too (store bought soft drink) It's a lot of food for the lunch combo, and I'd highly recommend it as it's really worth it. I got the spicy chicken with mixed vegetable stew to go. It was not spicy. The "stew" was just a pool of flavourless oil. Very bland. The chicken did not taste very good. The side dishes are good (seaweed was too slimy though), and the rice cake inside the stew was soft and chewy. Disappointing and poor business ethics! Take your group parties elsewhere. Servers seem to enjoy auto-gratuity of 18% on parties and do not feel the need to work to create a great guest experience. Booked a lunch AYCE party on April 14th to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. We had a poor experience and did not justify the price point: 1. Servers disinterested in serving our group of 8. Refused to serve us a glass of pop (as part of our ayce) while we were waiting for our remaining party to join. 2. Service very slow. We waited 40 mins to get our drinks after our service had started. 3. When we wanted to order more food - Our server responded with an unwelcoming tone about ordering too much, and if we did not finish our food we would be charged. Quiet okay, for servers to remind guest of food wastage policy, but it needs to be done in a friendly and customer-first manner. 4. We ordered the VIP Ayce which was suppose to include Lamb. That was one of selling feature for us as it is not included on the other AYCE options. When the menu came all of the lamb items were out of stock. The servers did not have the integrity to point that out in advance of us ordering, so that there was no surprises, and or to ensure this was not an issue for us. 5. Had requested the server to serve two cakes with a candle at the end of our meals. Despite reminder, the server brought out only one cake, and did not give us extra plates, forks or even a knife to cut the cake with. Completely ignored our sentiments around wanting to surprise my boyfriend with the cakes. 6. Dishware was wet, and stained plates; we had to ask the same to be replaced. During service extremely slow and not diligently in clearing dirty plates along the way. 7. Before we started, I had specified to the server everybody will settle their bill independently. Seemed to not remember this and when it came to billing felt the need to ask everyone about how bills would be settled. read more

TL;DR: If you have any idea of what korean food is, don't come here. This is by far the biggest ripoff restaurant I have been to. The worst KBBQ place I have ever been to. Be warned, the 5 star reviews are pushed for a discount of your meal and most of them are not legitimate. I have been to countless KBBQs, AYCE and per order, and this has to be the most ridiculous excuse of a restaurant I've ever been to. 1. Their menu options are ridiculously overpriced. To get what you would get at any other KBBQ restaurants at the base price like the brisket, you have to get the second most expensive AYCE option. 2. When you order, you have to order PER PIECE OF MEAT. Meaning if you're ordering brisket, which is a fairly small piece of meat, for each order you get 1 piece of brisket. I think we had ordered over 100 briskets, and to get there you have to click the "+" button 100+ times! 3. You have to pay for basic side dishes that ANY OTHER KBBQ RESTAURANT WOULD PROVIDE AS A SERVICE. We had to pay $2 for garlic! Are you kidding me?? Oh you want lettuce? You have pay extra. What a joke. 4. They are REALLY SLOW with their service. I'm almost certain this is to restrict how much you order, we had to ask for things 2-4 times to get it. They're trying to run out the 2 hour clock which they put warning signs on everywhere. We weren't even close to the 2 hours, but what a crooked way to do business. THE WORST OF ALL: They will force you to cook and eat your meal a certain way. They require that non super lean meats be cooked in this side metal pot because the meat has fat and produces oil. This seems like a new policy because I saw some photos from yelp where they do cook it right on the grill, but everyone else when we were there were going through the same struggle. And the pot BARELY HEATS UP enough to cook the meat. It takes forever to cook, which is also how it seems like they make you eat less. I love KBBQ, and have been to countless of them in several countries. I have NEVER been to a KBBQ where the GRILL CAN'T COOK LIKE HALF OF THE MEAT THEY SERVE!!! And they watch you and if you move the meat they'll come over and scold you for it. I am telling you, if you have even an ounce of self respect, do not come to this joke of a restaurant. Saw an advertisement for the place and decided to visit because I love KBBQ. The experience, however, was less than satisfactory. Walking in, we were told it would be a 20 minute wait, while they were only serving 3 or 4 customers. This struck me as odd initially, but I didn't mind waiting since KBBQ spots in California require a 30-60 minute wait at times. Once we were seated, it took an extraneous amount of time for the service to get to our table: I counted 15 minutes. This rubbed me off the wrong way, and the experience continued downhill afterwards. Turnaround times took extremely long, and we ended up being there for 2 hours (not out of choice) due to the excessive idle time between servings. The bill was shocking-- $120 for a KBBQ AYCE for 2 people? The service was 1.) terrible really, 2.) meat was subpar, and 3.) for the price you would be paying, not worth it at all. I'm not a picky eater, so the ambience + atmosphere of the restaurant really did it for me. They did look understaffed, so maybe they need to hire more workers to help accommodate. That's my only suggestion. They offer 10% off for a 5-star rating, but the price reduction was not worth it either due to the service.
