    Sooda Box
    Juliana S.

The box is fun and perfect for 2-3 people. Honestly just a sizzling, salty, tasty time which is exactly what I was craving. I'm a simple woman who loves corn cheese even though I know my stomach will hate me later. I could have gone for slightly more vegetables/green onion in the box to balance it out

We've visited Sooda multiple times and it always hits the spot. I highly recommend bringing friends and/or family, as most of their menu items are meant to be shared. Our usual orders are: Sooda Platter (meat, cheese, corn, egg, green onion, Rice) that's grilled right in front of you and the Sooda Box (torched Korean steak on top of rice). Their meats are well marinated and full of flavour while maintaining their tenderness.

Super cute restaurant with bench seating on one side and then chairs around the table. Service was quick, but keep in mind when it's busy they cannot split the bill more than 2 ways. Serving sizes were huuuge, and it was cool because the platter comes out in a super hot tray. The kimchi rice was made with whatever was left over on the platter which our server shaped like a heart. The potato thing was super delicious as well, kind of like a hash brown with fancy toppings. The pricing is really reasonable and we went as a group of 5 and it was the perfect amount for all of us. Very satisfied and would go again.

    Sooda special with pork belly

We had lunch here today and it was sensational. The best Korean food I think I've ever had. Starting with the complimentary pickled radish and chili cabbage. We had a Sooda box with honey garlic, melted in your mouth and so tasty. We also shared a Sooda special with pork belly as the protein. This ended up being too much food for the three of us but well worth trying it all. Our server was super helpful and nice.

Let's just start with this...the staff was so kind and attentive. They explained the menu and offered great suggestions for our group of seven. The ambience was sweet. We got there around 7pm and it only got busy as we were leaving. The music wasn't too loud and you are able to have conversations with whoever you are with. The food was full of flavor and the staff kept coming to check up on us.

Food was quite decent. The Sooda pan was quite unique. We ordered both the bulgogi and the Jeyook (spicy pork). We did add the kimchi fried rice kit. It was a fun interactive way of eating, along with the cheese and corn in the pan. We ordered the soodubu big pot vs a personalized size. The soup was quite flavorable but spicey. Prawns were very fresh. The waitress kindly let us know that once it is fully boiled, we can start (except for dumpling and prawns). Unfortunately there was very little soup so there wasn't any soup to cook the dumplings and prawns. She kindly brought some broth. We ordered SoodaHawk, but got pork rib and mozza. Not really sure if she misheard us or if they are the same dish. Wish we spoke korean. We also orders Soodabox. 1/2 original and 1/2 butter mayo. On the menu, it says you can mix a full order with 2 flavors. Full order $29.99. But we got charged two half orders ($17.50x2). Waitress seems new and training.. so maybe just a language barrier. Not sure if I would order this along with the pan since it was just a lot of rice. The menu was quite confusing with just the drink menu and the cartoon menu. The scan code lead to the website that wasn't too clear of the options. The best was their ordering pad but that was for the staff. Overall really like the place. Looking forward to coming back to try soju flight.

Located in gastown- street parking. Large space with two floors. Friendly servers and unique dishes. Seafood pancake- has a lot less veggies and seafood than I am used to but enjoyed it as it was extra crispy Sooda special- you get to try all the ingredients separately and then they come and stir fry it together for you Tofu soup was also different as it came with its own heating plate and cooked at the table. Gigantic prawns were super fresh Sooda box sushi displayed beautifully and flavorful. Would definitely be back with a large party to try all the dishes.

This was hands down some of the best Korean food I have had. They have toned down the spice and have very little ban chan but that is not a deal breaker. Kimchi is made in house in small batches and actually had heat to it! Most kimchi i have had is not spicy so much as sour. This was both and so delicious! The KFC was wet and I wouldn't say traditional. Typically I would eat with salt and lime slices. These were sticky with a wet sauce. Still tasty but it's not Korean hot. The bulgogi came with cabbage. It was flavorful and the meat wasn't stringy with tendon or fat. Unusual prep but very tasty and beefy. The Tteokbokki was awesome with the fish cake and rice rolls. I wish it was more spicy but flavors spot on. The basic Korean dishes were done very well. Great experience and would highly recommend.

The food was so great here. Highly recommend to anyone in the area. We don't get food like this back in Colorado. I hope to come back.

Food was good, the beef tartar sushi roll is really good. The platter tray with cheese, Bulgogi, corn and rice was okay (I'm pretty sure it's the main selling item) could be a little more sizzled...

Jusam (spicy stir fried small octopus and pork belly)
    Kevin T.

It's a roomy restaurant with a pocha-esque vibe and menu, and fun wall art. I believe the top section is also rentable for private events, which is kinda fun. The food itself though was super mediocre. We got the soodabox, the jusam (spicy octopus and pork belly stirfry), and the pork chop soodahawk. The soodabox was okay, it just tasted like beef bulgogi over a rice roll with chipotle mayo, which is fine if you're into it. The jusam was actually pretty good and flavorful, and was slightly spicy. The pork chops were really bad, super dry and way smaller than the photos made them seem. Probably worth coming here if you just wanna get some drinks and snack on food (the melona soju cocktail was decent, but not too alcoholic), but wouldn't recommend coming here if your main goal is to eat.

    Ju Sam - spicyyyyyy

This is not your typical Korean barbecue as they make the food for you. But it is beyond delicious. Our server was amazing, gave us great recommendations. The place is super cute. For drinks we started with a Korean spirit flight, which was different flavors and it was so good. We tried the Sooda special and that was delicious and more than enough food for all four of us plus a baby. We also tried the Sooda box and it was beyond delicious. We wanted to get another eight rolls. I also tried Ju Sam which was so spicy. It made me sweat, but it was so delicious. I would definitely recommend coming here as the food is phenomenal.

    Sooda special
    Iris W.

We enjoyed our experience at Sooda which in our minds is Korean food w a twist. The Sooda special was heated over induction which made for bubbly corn cheesu and warm delicious bulgugi. Seafood pancake had a great crisp on top. The soondubu was really flavorful and spicy. Service was amazing--they were attentive, fast, and very nice to the kid. The vibe was very chill w fun art and seasonal decorations. Recommend a try!

Korean guy at the front waves at us, asks how many people, and directs us to a seat. Then another Korean guy comes over and scolds us, telling us to next time please wait at the front until being seated. Clearly they have some organizational issues here and not a great start to this visit. We place our order. Food for 2 of our 4 arrive about 10 mins later. The food for the other 2 people arrive another 20 mins later. Meanwhile the food for the first 2 ppl just sit there. Thankfully they were in clay pots so it was still warm at least, but this is ridiculous. There is no reason for this. If you're slow to get food out, fine, but bring it all out at once. The restaurant itself is huge, looks like a lounge and bar but mostly empty. The staff are all dressed differently too in street clothes so its hard to tell who works there. They are clearly struggling with understaffing. We had a caucasian waitress who came by to deliver food. She was very nice and friendly. About the food. We ordered: kimchi soondubu - asked for extra spicy, it was barely spicy. beef/seafood mixed soondubu - asked for spicy, it was straight up not spicy. The broth base was the same for each, and lacked depth of flavour. The tofu itself was pretty good, silky smooth, but tofu takes on the flavours of whatever it's cooked with and in this case, not much... The beef in these was just ok and there wasnt much of it. The seafood in the mixed one amounted to 1 clam and 1 shrimp shell-on. There was nothing else in it. 2/5 for both of these. Gamjatang - medium sized portion, good for 2, maybe 3 people. Meat was ok, broth was not bad. Solid average. 3/5. banchan served with the meals were the biggest disappointment. 2/5. This might be the most disappointing banchan ive had in a Korean restaurant in a long time. They served regular cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, and bean sprouts. thats it. None of them were particularly good (not bad, just nothing great). And for a party of 4, they served a single portion of each banchan for the whole table. We had to ask for refills 3 more times. You have 4 diners, all with food that comes with Banchan normally. Wouldnt it be reasonable to bring out 4 portions of banchan right off the bat? Especially when you're understaffed? Overall: Main dishes 2.5/5. Banchan 2/5 for overall selection and quality. Service 2/5 - really comes down to severe understaffing and really poor management of how the kitchen is run. The staff there do their best but they need help. Venue 3/5. Overall, 2 to 2.5/5. This place might be the worst Korean place on the Robson strip of all the ones Ive been to. That's saying a lot, since Vancouver doesnt have amazing Korean food to begin with, and this is one of the worst of the bunch.

They answered all my questions and offered recommendations, and were very welcoming. Nam San seems to be very popular for their Soondae (blood sausage). However, I've never really tried Soondae before and I was feeling nauseous on the day of my visit--so I opted for something more mild and less "adventurous" instead. I will definitely be back to try their Soondae next time though. Daeji Gukbap 10/10 This boiled bowl of stew was exactly what my upset tummy needed. The creamy broth warmed me right up and soothed my stomach so well. It was the only thing I was able to keep down in two days. There was also a generous amount of tender and flavourful pork inside. This bowl of stew honestly reminded me so much of the one we tried in Busan. Definitely recommend it to anyone who likes stews. There was no gaminess at all, and yet the soup was still so full of flavour. Absolutely delicious. One of the three…read moreremaining stalls in the Robson Public Market food court, Nam San specializes in pork offal and homemade Korean blood sausage (soondae), incorporated into a variety of dishes. I always order the same thing, a mixed pork offal and soondae soup. You can choose the spiciness level when you order but they also offer red pepper flakes and fish sauce on the side to add to taste. It comes in small and large, with a side of pickled radish, roasted seaweed, and white rice. Even with the small, you get a lot of meat in the hot stone bowl and it is so comforting. The offal is super tender but the star here is definitely the soondae. Pork blood and vermicelli with spices are encased in an intestine casing, making for a unique springy texture. It's even more tasty when you dip into their homemade fish sauce and the stew warms you to the bone. I love supporting small mom and pop shops, and with how tucked away this place is on the busy Robson strip, I'll definitely make an effort to frequent them time and time again. Please pay them a visit and try their unique offerings out!
