Went for lunch on a weekend it was not busy at all. Was seated right away, the staff was very friendly. We ordered the bulgogi lunch set and didn't realize it came with so many sides. We could not finish either sets, it was great value for $20 each. We packed most of it to go. You get to try a little bit of everything in the dishes. I came for a late dinner, around 9pm on a Saturday. The place was fairly busy, with only a few tables open. We walked in, took them a min or so to notice us before seating us. You order with the waiter, but their menu is online only - you get a QR code to scan. The guy who took our order was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. So far so good. Then came 30 mins of waiting. No idea why it took that long. They didnt even serve the banchan first. We asked a waiter about it (not the original guy, but another guy) and he said it will come with the food. Then I asked to order an additional appetizer and he seemed thoroughly confused. This guy clearly had no idea what he was doing, compared with the other guy who was practically a veteran. We ordered their buda jigae hotpot with 1/2 cheese 1/2 corn sides, and their appetizer portion of their special Tabom chicken. The buda jigae came out with only corn, no cheese, and it took a half hour. No idea why a soup with premade sausages, premade kimchi, premade spam and instant ramyun could take so long when it is supposed to come out uncooked to be cooked on the table stove. We pointed out the missing cheese to the first waiter (the veteran) and he quickly rectified that by topping our corn with cheese. But then it dawned on me that they did not centre the pot on the flame right so only half of our cheese melted. The other half of corn/cheese remained cold and stayed cold the entire meal. The soup itself was average. The stirfried sausages it came with was too salty. The Tabom chicken appetizer was just ok. good for the first few bites but got old really fast. Really sweet sauce. Restaurant was comfortable enough, modern decor, spacious seating. Street metered parking on Robson. Overall the food is average as far as korean food in vancouver goes. But thats not a high bar to set. Service is way too slow, and one waiter clearly had no idea what he was doing. I wont be coming back. We met up with a friend here for lunch and it was good. We were seated very quickly when we arrived. After looking at their menu, at first we were thinking about individual entrees but we saw their whole menu through a QR code and got a Hot Plate to share. I wish they had a physical copy of their Hot Plate menus on the table. We ordered the Hot Plate Teokbokki, substituted the pork for beef, and added ramen. It was nice how they brought the huge hot plate and had it grilled at our table. We waited a couple minutes to cook before we ate. Our hot plate had so many components: beef, chicken katsu, fish cakes, rice cakes, cheese, corn, steamed egg on the side, gyoza, egg in the center, and green onion. I loved the fish cakes, beef, and chicken katsu the best. The beef was flavorful and I loved the texture of the chicken katsu. I really liked the corn and melted cheese on the side. Also the banchan on the side were tasty too. There were so many options to choose from since it came with so much, I liked it. Everything was delicious. Came here on a Saturday around 6:45pm and we got sat right away. We ordered the Mala Tteokbokki and it was sooo good. It came with tteokbokki, vegetables, meatballs, pork, corn cheese, and steamed egg. The mala broth was very flavorful and spicy! It may look like a lot, but my friend and I were able to finish the whole thing because it was that delicious!! What a fun and delicious Korean restaurant. You order the large dishes in plates which comes with corn and fluffy eggs, similar to how you would get them in traditional Korean BBQ restaurants. Our group ordered the seafood pancake, tteokboki, and bulgogi plate. The seafood pancake was large and thick. The exterior was nice and crispy and the interior was thick and fluffy. Good flavor and filling. I was pleasantly surprised by their tteokboki dish. We got medium spice and it was just right. They add in gyoza, chicken katsu, a boiled egg, and some bulgogi in addition to the rice cakes and fish cakes. The bulgogi plate was a double order, and the flavor was fantastic! Pretty unique Korean BBQ/hot plate place. Great atmosphere and service - they are pretty patient with you knowing most people don't know the concept. The key thing are the hot plates - they serve partially cooked meat and veggies on a hot plate served over a grill in the middle of the table. You have to wait 10 min or so for it to finish, in the mean time you can have banchan and rice and other things you order on the side. The meat and veggies mix is really good. It goes so well with rice and corn and cheese. We added noodles which mixed with the grill is great. The chicken is also very well presented. Dipping sauces on the sides. I went here with two friends around lunch time and thankfully, there wasn't a really long wait. We got seated and to be honest, throughout the whole experience, service was pretty slow. They were definitely very kind, however, we felt that at times they forgot about our table, didn't check up on us, and it was hard to get a staff member's attention. We didn't mind too much as we could talk between ourselves and are pretty patient but it was a bit annoying when we needed something. The decor inside is very Korean though and the space is a bit small but in a cozy way. :) We ordered the BAAM chicken, a hot plate, and a soup. The soup was alright (good but nothing spectacular), the fried chicken was amazing (we couldn't finish it and brought it home for later and it was a great late night snack), and the hot plate was delicious. This was the first time I've tried Korean hot plate in this style and I wish there was something like this where I live. The only thing was that we had to choose two different meats, which was a bit hard as we only wanted a particular one, but in the end we chose the octopus one. As it was my first time, the staff member directed us on how to eat it, how long we should wait, and helped us in serving. They were great. It's been awhile since we've gone for Korean food downtown. Never been to Tå Bom Korean Cuisine before. This is their OG location, which is nestled between Sura and a Liuyishou Hotpot branch. They have a second location out in Coquitlam. We dropped in on a busy Friday afternoon (around 1:30pm). No idea why it's so hot inside. Luckily, we were able to move tables, to the ones by the door to get some much needed airflow. Lunch specials ($17.00 to $19.00) are available from 11:30am to 3:00pm. - Jeyuk-bokkeum ($17.00) - we opted for the spicy pork. A blimp in heat but the pork was sweet, nicely cooked and came with onions & cabbage. Side dishes included kimchi (great kick), sausage with onion (quality tasted like hot dogs), shrimp and yellow sweet potato croquettes (shrimp was excellent), salad, tofu, egg (a light rolled omelette), peach soda, rice and oden-tang (broth was delicious). - Nakji-bokkeum ($19.00) - stir-fried octopus. This was "spicier" than the spicy pork. I thought the heat was fine but it was close to B's threshold. No difference in the side dishes and soup. Filling, satisfying lunch at TB. Service people you don't need to become my best friend, but my goodness please treat me like a human being! Don't even bother asking for recommendations - seems that one must know what they want to eat before entering here. Was it Amateur Night or was I being recorded on candid camera!?? Seriously I was expecting Aston Kutcher to pop out & come running at me laughing loudly & then say - I got you. Then our order came - all our dishes were placed in front of us & with no plates! We had to beg for plates or were we supposed to eat using our fingers as Chopsticks ? My spider sense started tingling when a table near us stood up suddenly & told the host - 'cancel the order we're leaving.' Dayum I should've followed them running! Now don't get me wrong I'm an understanding guy but come on if I'm paying top dollar for food in your restaurant surely the staff can get it together!?! Yes!? I should have stuck with my original craving & gone to Sura next door, but thought - it's good to try new things. Well that was a big mistake. No one explained how to operate the grill & it burnt the Mac & Cheese & egg. As the ladies say - 'communication is a good thing.' Right!?! The Seafood Pancake was underwhelming. I've had better at Sura. The steak, had we known how to operate the grill, would have cooked better but it heated up so fast it killed the taste. Came here on a double date for sticky, cheesy, sweet and sour deliciousness and we were not disappointed! It was the first time trying the TTEOK-BOKKI, which is basically a hot pot, filled with rice rolls, a bit of soup and then tons of delicious filler! We got the traditional and it comes with beef bulgogi, egg, 2 gyoza, ramen, chicken katsu, fish cake and green onion. We added cheese, egg and extra ramen. We also ordered the half and half Baaaam chicken, which was half spicy sweet chicken and half honey garlic chicken. It also comes with some deep fried cheese sticks, rice rolls, fries and several different dips. It was the perfect amount of food for 4 hungry people. And so delicious! It has a variety of textures, tastes and the selection of food was wonderful if you want to try a bunch of different Korean foods in one dish! We ordered the beef bulgogi hot plate, japchae, and seafood pancake. This was a lot of food to share between two people, so we were definitely struggling. I like that each person gets their own banchan plate, so we don't have to share with other people. I love how the hot plate had corn, cheese, and steamed egg around the beef bulgogi. The seafood pancake was very fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The japchae was good too. I think we should've swapped the japchae out for a bowl of rice to share. We also ordered two bottles of flavored soju to share. The food here was pretty good. The service was okay. The restaurant seems to lack ventilation since it started to get pretty warm inside. We ordered the spicy pork big hot plate. I've been to one in Coquitlam 5 years ago and am not sure if it's just this downtown location but the serving size is much smaller. It doesnt fill up the hot plate. All the extras are so expensive. We even paid $5 for extra rice cakes but it was probably only a couple pieces more. $5 for lettuce gives you around 8 thin pieces. $5 of cheese will fill up the extra slot on the hot plate that is normally empty. Too bad they turn off the stove in the middle of cooking so the cheese hardened. The egg that comes with the hotplate is a very very thin later. The only full layer was the corn. read more

Very friendly staff, they helped us out with what to order. We got the bibim naengmyun, beef bulgogi hot plate and the honey baaaam chicken. The hot plate was alright I would give it a 3/5. I really liked the honey baaaam chicken and the naengmyun! The noodles were chewy and saucey. The chicken had so much flavour and also different 6 dipping sauces. Once we arrived at the restaurant, it took another 20 min for us to get seated, which was a little unfortunate. The restaurant itself is very dark inside with modern decor. This place is amazing! My hotel was across the street from this restaurant and it was nice to see the food as you walk by with a crowd enjoying it. I knew I had to try the restaurant myself. We had the Chicken Galbi and it was the best food we had during out trip to Vancouver. It was even better than our anniversary dinner! The price was so cheap for 2 people. I also LOVE the honesty of the server. We didn't really know the portion sizes and wanted to order fried rice as a side. She told us to wait till we finish the Galbi and then order it if we still want more. Most restaurants will not warn you that you are ordering too much! Definitely a spot to try for korean fusion food with a group of friends. I like going with a bigger party for korean food so you can try more items than going yourself. I like to order their korean bbq plate here because it comes with a variety of items including corn and cheese! I've only seen this offered at one other spot in Vancouver so it is cool to see that there is another location that offers something similar. We were pretty hungry so we had their japchae and their BAAAAAAAM chicken. The japchae came first and it was about 10 min before the chicken. We almost finished that dish before the chicken. The BAAAAAAM (not sure how many A's) was the highlight with a 1/2 original and 1/2 sweet&spicy. We really enjoyed it and just enough spice and sweetness along with a satisfying crunch. I brought my friend on June 23rd and she really wanted to try Korean food. I've been wanting to try Ta Bom when it first opened in Coquitlam and this place was a perfect opportunity for both of us to try it. The atmosphere was casual drawing young crowd and some were family dining together. Food wasn't cheap, but it was definitely worth the try. I had no problem handling Korean food and literally grew up on Korean food; however my pal Lydia couldn't handle it. Staff helped us by bringing more cabbages to lessen the spiciness. It was nice of them. I'd say the meal could cost around $25 per person including drinks. We didn't order any rice because meat and veggies were quite filling for us. I personally find the cheese is a must add on to dip some corns and meats. It was tasty and flavorful , and some may find this too spicy. **Order less spicy if you can't handle spices** Food bill can add up quick if you order appies as well. I had the pork back bone hot pot. It came with a bowl of rice which was just enough to feed a hungry person on a cold evening. The broth was not oily and packed with flavour. The pork needed a bit of work with fingers as you had to hold, bite and slurp meat off the bone. Otherwise it was an amazing meal. I am more familiar with the Coquitlam location and hadn't been in awhile, but I stopped by the Robson location recently. I was very surprised by their smaller portion size and the serving size of additional sides. Keep in mind the sides vary from $4-6, but the value for them is LOW. We ordered the following side orders: corn ($5), cheese ($5), volcano rice ($6), extra cabbage ($5), rice cakes ($5) and steamed egg ($4). We ordered these for BOTH hot plates. The cheese and corn serving sizes were understandable. We get it - inflation, food is expensive, rent is expensive. The steamed egg, however, was precisely ~2-3mm in thickness by the time it had finished cooking. We made a comment as some areas were actually 1mm in thickness BEFORE cooking, to which we were informed, "We have a set amount we give for the eggs" and that it appeared to be less as the "hotplate is tilted to one side" (regardless, cooked down to 2mm in depth). We kind of sat feeling dumbfounded as customers paying $60 in SIDES ONLY, that we had to comment on the amount of egg they served, which is also VERY evidently watered down. Volcano rice ($6) - made incredibly bland, we opted to attempt to make it more seasoned by adding more sauce from the other hotplate. On four occasions, the staff came by and turned off the light while we were letting it cook. I understand there may be protocols in place, but we thought it'd be nice to engage us in their decision-making vs. just turning it off. I am not fixated on this issue, just want customers to be aware. It's a shame when a pleasant dining experience is dampered by suboptimal operational protocols. I can say the taste is enough to get your fix. TLDR: I don't know how much they're saving by limiting eggs, but I can tell you no one at our table will be returning to either locations in the foreseeable future. We can surely get our Korean food fix elsewhere for less than $50/pp. I highly recommend So Hyang on Fraser Street. read more
