What a delicious treat. We ordered Don's choice (tasting menu). The braised short rib was so tender. The tornado prawn was my favourite. The Duck Yolk Butter Toast was delicious but a bit rich. Service was outstanding and restaurant very welcoming.

This just became one of my fave Asian fusion restaurants. You've got to visit here if you haven't been yet! The dishes are stunning and the food matches the look. The inside is also beautifully decorated. I tried items for their Dine Out Vancouver menu plus some other additional dishes. -Braised Octopus (so flavourful & had a nice chew) -Roast Pork Jowl (super tender pork & soft egg) -Wagyu Beef Tartare (seasoned very well & delicious) -Cured Salmon Tartare ( a little bit too salty to my liking) -Beef Cheeks ( loved the radish cake & soo yummy) -Torched Salmon Belly (torched perfectly) -When Grandma was Here (for mapo tofu lovers) -Salted Duck Yolk Toast ( soo delicious and unique) -Chicken and Kaya French Toast -White Rabbit Crème Brûlée (fave dessert) -White Rabbit Ice-Cream -Hojicha Pecan Pastry All the dishes were unique in their own way. I'm blown away by how good the dishes were. My top faves would be braised octopus, salted duck yolk toast and roast pork jowl!

First night for Dine Out Vancouver 2025 at Don At Kitsilano! The dinner menu is $59 for three course meal. We chose: appetizer: WAGYU BEEF TARTARE and BRAISED OCTOPUS entree: BEEF CHEEKS and TORCHED SALMON BELLY dessert: WHITE RABBIT CREME BRULEE and HOJICHA PECAN PASTRY We had the sake flight with delicious food and fantastic service from Cliff! We will back soon to try regular menu or brunch menu. Definitely great introduction to Don as the service and ambiance is cozy and inviting.

Had a great date night at Don! First time trying this spot, and got some great recommendations from Cliff. Loved how cozy and cute the restaurant was - appreciated all the little details from the decor and moss, to the artisanal tables. We tried a few items. Beef tartar was really nice and fresh - could have used a bit more salt or pepper for seasoning. Salted egg yolk toast was a lovely bite - toast was crunch with a great salted egg yolk topping, perfect to share. For mains, we got the seafood congee pot pie and the pork jowl rice bowl. The congee pot pie was really unique and I enjoyed the hot sauce a lot! The pork jowl was so tender and well seasoned, and I appreciated the wasabi to cut the fat. The tomato broth was great - I could've just drank a bowl on its own! Lastly for dessert, the rabbit candy crème brûlée. I couldn't taste the rabbit candy that well but I love crème brûlée in general so I still enjoyed it. I liked the fresh strawberries on top. Overall, a great meal and I will definitely be back to try the rest of the Asian fusion dishes! Compliments to the chef and our server Cliff for the attentive service!

What an amazing spot! Everything was beautifully plated and packed with flavour. Definitely worth the visit. We started with the Braised Octopus, and it was incredible. Super tender, with a rich black garlic kick and a smooth cauliflower purée that tied everything together. The Wagyu Beef Tartare was next, and it was a flavor bomb--silky wagyu, umami-packed soy sesame dressing, crispy fried garlic, and just the right crunch from the pistachios. The seaweed added a nice salty pop, making every bite addictive. For mains, the Torched Salmon Belly was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The smoky, buttery salmon paired so well with the shiitake rice and onsen egg. The sour poached tomato and tomato broth gave it a unique, balanced twist. The Beef Cheeks were just as impressive. So tender they fell apart with a fork, served with crispy radish cake and meaty king oyster mushrooms. The beef jus tied it all together beautifully. Finished off with the White Rabbit Crème Brûlée, and it was a perfect ending... creamy, nostalgic, and balanced with fresh strawberries and pistachios.

Incredible dining experience, with incredible decor. The chef handmade all of the art work himself, including the dining tables. That alone should be enough reason to visit! Loved every single bite, and really enjoyed how each dish was meaningful to the chef and his experience with food growing up.

We were surprised and thrilled by our experience at Don in Kitsilano. This cozy, beautifully decorated restaurant has such a unique charm. Each table is crafted from epoxy and delicately adorned with dried flowers encased in liquid glass. It's a hidden gem that feels intimate and stylish, perfect for a romantic dinner or a cozy meal with friends. Don's dinner menu fuses Asian and Western flavours with stunning presentation, and each dish feels like art. Every detail is thoughtfully crafted, from the elegant cutlery to the eye-catching plating. We found ourselves wanting to take photos of each dish! Taste & Flavour Beyond the visuals, each dish had various flavours, and the portions were just right. Here's what we ordered and loved: Starters: Lobster Gyoza--The crispiness was surreal, and each gyoza was packed with seasoned lobster. They were perfectly paired with a vinegar dip. Cured Salmon Tartare - Cured salmon topped with egg yolk, served with prawn chips that add the perfect crunch. Truly luxurious! Mains: Braised Beef Cheek Nian Gao - 30-hour slow-cooked beef cheeks paired with savoury rice cake. Super flavorful! Seafood Congee Pot Pie [ Top Pick ] - Served with a side of peanuts, fried shallots, and chili crunch oil. The flavours were phenomenal and so unique! Pork Jowl [ Top Pick ] - Shiitake rice with tomato broth, where you pour your preferred broth. Every element was perfectly executed. Desserts (Save Room!): White Rabbit Creme Brulee - Rich and creamy, a true delight. Rabbit in the Garden - Such a cute presentation, and it tasted amazing! Drinks: Fairy Wing (Non-Alcoholic) Top Pick - Gorgeous as its name suggests. Spicy Peach Margarita (Non-Alcoholic) - Unique with a spicy kick. Don has quickly established itself as one of our favourite destinations for an exceptional dining experience. With impressive ratings of 4.7 on Google and 4.4 on Yelp, it's clear that this spot stands out! Don is located in the heart of Kitsilano and is a must-visit for an unforgettable evening with friends and family. We're eager to return and discover even more from their ever-evolving menu. Don in Kitsilano comes highly recommended!

My wife and I went here for a spontaneous dinner date after looking at their menu. We made a reservation and arrived there on time. Despite arriving well after their open time, we were the only customers in the restaurant. The place looks nice. I actually really admired the table design. We ordered the following: - Duck Yolk Garlic Bread - Ok. Tastes exactly like one would expect but the bread was over-toasted so hard and dry, so not a pleasant texture. - Short Rib Poutine - Very good. Probably the best dish of the night. Tasty and fun to share. - When Grandma Was Here - Good. With such a heartwarming name, I was really hoping it would be great. It sounded like an incredible mix of flavours and textures, but I felt it all clashed. - Burnt Pork Jowl Don - OK. Pork jowl was good, but the rest was rather plain and bland, including the dashi. Service was subpar. Started off nicely as our server was friendly, but she was too busy talking to the chefs the rest of the night. After serving our starters, she never checked on us. The wait between finishing our starters and getting our main was over 20min. Took forever to get our bill. This really dampened our experience. It's one thing if it was busy, but it wasn't, so I can only say that the service level left something to be desired.

I came here to celebrate an anniversary and had a lovely experience! Upon arriving, there was a handwritten card at our table from the team and the staff that we interacted with throughout our meal were so sweet. We ordered the torched salmon belly, abalone seafood congee pot pie, when grandma was here (mapo tofu), darjeeling sparkling tea, cold pressed black cherry juice, and white rabbit crème brûlée and I don't have any complaints about anything! The dishes were cozy and nostalgic as they are inspired by Asian cuisine and I could not pick a favorite dish since everything was good. I think while the flavours were not too complex, the presentation and atmosphere really elevated the experience. I'd definitely like to come back here to try the other chef's recommend items. If you're planning to celebrate an anniversary, or any special occasion, I'd highly recommend this restaurant--the team really knows how to make the experience special as well!

A cozy little gem with a creative menu that truly impresses! I first came here after running the Vancouver half marathon and loved it so much that I returned on my second trip--this time bringing my sister, who lived in Japan for 20 years. She also absolutely loved it, which says a lot about the quality and authenticity of the food. The staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home. I fell in love with the cured salmon tartar, sablefish don, and aburi salmon belly--all absolutely delicious. With its warm atmosphere and welcoming team, I can't wait to come back and try even more dishes.

Finally got to try this place that's been on my list forever, and I have zero regrets. The rice bowls are so delicious, I think if your group is big enough you should try both the salmon and pork jowl ones. The meat, rice, and soup are all so good. I also quite liked the fried chicken with kaya french toast, though you definitely need a bit of a sweet tooth to enjoy it, so up to you if it suits your taste. They had some kind of asian fusion char siu breakfast dish that looked really good but no one in my group was interested hahaha. Guess I'll have to come back for it!

Great location, space and staff. Delicious menu with just enough options. Lobster gyozas were delicious! We would have been happy if that's all we had. The duck egg toast was good. I was curious of the flavor as I heard it was a delicacy. Glad we tried it to know what it's like. Salty flavor and crunchy bread. Pork jowl was perfectly cooked and the mushroom rice was swapped for plain white rice which seemed like a better combination. The salmon belly is in my top fish dish I've ever had. Hands down the best salmon dish I've ever had. The egg in the dish was the best egg I've had, perfectly poached and creamy once opened. The mushroom rice looked more flavorful than it was, wish I had it with plain rice as that seemed more flavorful - maybe the white rice was more seasoned with salt or something. Sauv Blanc wine was ok, but went well with the dishes. And the yellow dog IPA was so good. We didn't have room for dessert. Only call out was I really wish the lighting was dimmed. For the decor and price it should have a more dimmed ambiance to give it that lux vibe rather than casual dining.

    Breakfast Platter

Our first visit and there is nothing not to like about this place. Everything was executed very well and we love the open kitchen. They definitely know what they are doing here. Their menu concept is a fusion of Asian and western comfort dishes with little twists that elevates the dish but doesn't overwhelms the flavours. Start with the duck yolk garlic bread to entice your taste buds. If you are craving for a comforting rice bowl, any of their dons are not to be missed. But the pork belly one was super tasty. Their english style breakfast platter is wholesome but each component was still executed very well. Looking forward to trying the rest of their menu.

Unfortunately, that was my experience at Jingle Bao & Yum Yum Wok. I purposely planned to arrive around 3:30pm so I can take advantage of the 2-5pm happy hour special. Upon entry, I was given three options for seating as it wasn't busy. The server was extremely nice and it was great to see a staff freshly making their XLBs. I ended up ordering a trio set; the Crab XLB for my dumpling option, the tan tan noodles for my starch, and a matcha latte for my beverage. The tan tan noodles arrived first. Unlike the noodles I normally order, it was in a chili oil broth. I can tell the noodles were hand cut, but the thickness was consistent with udon noodles. It lacked flavor and the chili oil and sesame oil combo failed to sink into the noodle. Another table asked for salt for their noodle, hoping that it would save the taste. Neither them nor I finished it. The beverage came out second. The lady making it behind the counter didn't seem too careful with the ratio. What I ended up getting was a slightly mint color milk beverage. It wasn't very good, but still my favorite of the trio. You can mess up flavor milk. The dumplings came out shortly after. Maybe it's my bad for being adventurous right from the start - and I also know that not everything is made for me; but other than the nice red-white ying yang color, it was bad. The dumplings were all different sizes. The meat inside fell apart and broke. It as also surprisingly fishy, which makes me think that the crab had been dead for a long while. I ended up using the vinegar to mask the taste and fishyness. Upon a closer look at the menu, the price differential between the HH combo and the individual orders weren't much of a difference. I felt kinda bummed that I purposely targeted this place at this time and it fell short of expectations. Two starts for the decor and the lovely people, but zero for the food.

Dwenjang jjigae had an interesting twist. It was lighter and more radish-forward than the traditional version, which I didn't mind, but it felt a bit unusual to call it dwenjang jjigae. It came with mushrooms, radish, tofu, and thin slices of beef. Overall, it was light and very enjoyable. Soondae was different from the typical version I'm used to. Here, it's made with an innards casing and the filling was also different, like meaty with less noodles. It had a strong flavor and aroma that I didn't prefer but the texture was soft, not chewy, and it paired nicely with kimchi and radish. It was fine to try but I probably wouldn't order it again. We ordered a small, and couldn't finish. Side dishes were limited to three varieties (fish cake, kimchi, bean sprouts) and served in small portions. With the richness of the bossam and strong taste of the soondae, we needed more kimchi and pickled radish but it was hard to get our server's attention, likely because she was busy attending to all the tables. We enjoyed the warm ambiance, and it seemed like many diners were enjoying the army stew. We'll be back to try more items and for the bossam.
