During a long weekend trip to Vancouver, my wife and I tried Jingle Bao because we were in the mood for some dumplings. We arrived when the restaurant opened, and we were the only guests in the restaurant for the first 10-15 minutes. We ordered the platter, and some extra steamed dumplings on the side. Over all the food was good. The dumplings from the steamer were delicous. The food on the platter was great, except the dumplings. The dumplings from the platter was already starting to dry out when it arrived at our table. I think the platter is a nice concept, but I'd rather have freshly steamed dumplings straight from the bamboo steamer. I think they have to steam the dumplings then it takes time to assemble it on the platter, so by the time it gets to the table, it's already cooled down.

One of the most beautiful soup dumplings I've seen so far. Not only beautiful but also delicious and so creative with different flavour. My favorite one is the red soup dumplings, just like slurping a whole spoon spicy hotpot soup in your mouth. Pack of deliciousness! The only challenge is the parking, you have to park couple blocks away during rush hours.

Overall: A+ // 6 stars A cozy restaurant that checks all the boxes for me; their food is consistently innovative, high quality, while also emphasizing the aesthetic and quite competitively priced. The staff are also friendly and accomodating. Highly recommend this place; can't wait to return to try the rest of their menu! (Magnificent Seven Soup Dumplings: S) - A set of xiaolongbao that is as tasty as it is beautiful. Compared to other conceptions, I enjoyed their forward and innovative flavor approach, such as the curry xlb that is a flavor bomb of spice without being too overpowering. My other favorites were the chili oil and truffle which also had noticeably distinct notes. (Pan Fried Dumplings: A+) - One of the most elegant dumplings I've seen from the lattice to the floral garnish. The dumplings are juicy, tender, with a slight crisp, and pair well with the soy and spicy mayo. Don't recommend this place to go. Vegetable is like soaping in oil very oily, $16.99 came out super small portion. The dumpling $14.99 inside has only couple pieces ground pork, and fully of the pork skin fat liquid inside for drink. Waiter push to up sale pay Extra $3 dollars for the "2 side dishes", actually just one boiled egg cut into 4 pieces, and little reddish pickle. Very small portion. Chicken fried rice used the dried old part non-fresh of the vegetable stem, you can see the green parts have white round spots in each greens. We went there around 9:07pm, food started to come out around 9:14pm, around 9:25pm, they start to come back and forward to remove the empty plates and gave us the bill at 9:35pm to tell us to pay tried to tell us to leave when we were still eating. Feeling such a rush couldn't enjoy the meal. They had 25 minutes before their closing time-- at 10pm. This restaurant is So weird. They didn't tell me togo box charges $0.25 extra, and why didn't put that at the beginning with the bill all together when I was paying. After I paid by the credit card including tips, they came back to ask for $0.25 extra for the togo box and had me to pay by the credit card again for $0.28 (after tax). I asked to void the previous one so he can add them together, the waiter refused to void it because he was worried about I would have changed the tip amount since already irritating. Extra work just to run my credit card for $0.28 making customers feel so awful.

Easily the best soup dumplings I've had! The service was great, they even accommodated my wife's dietary restrictions for seafood only. All the food was just beautifully presented with a matching flavor. Edit: the chef did an amazing sugar art presentation. I have no words for how beautiful and artistic it was. Hopefully you witness this feat of sugar work.

disappointed with the xiao long bao here. not much soup or meat on the inside. salt and pepper fried chicken didn't have any extra flavors minus tasting like popcorn chicken. vegetable quartet was interesting-came with two cold side veggies and a bowl of rice. snowflake dumpling was super oily but crispy. chocolate xiao long bao has chocolate and mochi inside.

After all the social media hype- decided to give it a go! The restaurant gives a very hole in the wall type vibe, our server was friendly and it was fun being seated next to the counter and watch the dumplings being made to order. It started out strong, but definitely didn't end in the best note. Truffle pork xlb was delicious! It was filled with extremely flavorful broth and the pork was light. The wrapper is on the thicker side, but cooked through. Har gaw was a bit over cooked. The wrapper was almost mushy rather than that al dente chew. There was no shortage on the filling though! The normal sized XLB was good! Although the top part of the wrapper/dough was a little on the underdone side. The soup was just as flavorful as the truffle and the pork filling was just right. Now for the giant XLB. It was so full of soup. I was so excited to just poke it with the straw... but upon my first sip. The broth was BARELY warm and the pork was still raw!!! I was so bummed because I was able to watch the giant meat ball and tucked into the wrapper. Would I suggest to hit this place up for dumplings? Yes. I would just skip the XL XLB.

The flavors in this place were pretty good. The assorted xiao long bao was executed well. The stir fried noodles had good flavor but I thought it was interesting to use fried noodles to be stir fried

If you are looking for bao buns or dim sums this place is a great option. Located on Denman street, close to the harbour and Stanley park, it's a nice place for lunch and dinner while exploring the area. The xian long bao are freshly made. I could eat them every day! You have the usual optionson the menu: siu mai, spring rolls, sticky rice ... I had the classic xia long bao with a draft beer for 15$. Great deal! Also tried the sticky rice and siu mai, very tasty!! Really a good restaurant to try if you are nearby

Good and better than expected. They have a good rendition of all their dishes and have some creative new ones too in the colorful xlb. Pleasant and recommend if you are biking Stanley Park to go before or after. Lunch * Xlb (Great) * Colorful xlb (Good) * Big lobster xlb (Good) * Yellow custard bun (Great)

This charming and bright (yellow) place serves bao and other Chinese dishes. We had the Combo Platter, which included Taiwanese Salt and Pepper Chicken, Siu Mai, Har Gow, Crystal Mushroom and Veggie Dumplings, Edamame, Seaweed Salad, and Shrimp Crackers, Their 7 signature types of soup dumplings (Classic, Spinach/Cheese, Spicy, Curry, Truffle, Shrimp, Garlic), plus chocolate dessert dumplings. My favorites were the spicy and curry soup dumplings, but chocolate lovers will go for those dessert dumplings. We couldn't finish everything, but the Salt and Pepper Chicken heated up great the next day. Service was very friendly. Such a large platter took a while to fix, of course, because it was all made to order. That's why it was great.

This was a really fun place. All the food we ordered was great. We got the Signature magnificient 7 - the only problem with this one is how to share it :) My daughter loved the gigantic bao with the straw :) The har gao, the pork bun and the shrimp dumplings were also excellent. The service was also excellent.

With about 9-10 people per table, we were treated to what felt like at least ten courses. There wasn't much time for photos, as conversation and catching up naturally took precedence. The standouts were the seafood fried rice and the green onion lobster and crab stir-fry -- rich, comforting, and generously flavoured, the kind of dishes that quietly anchor a long meal. It was a busy holiday weekend, and the restaurant was packed. Our original 7:00 p.m. reservation was delayed until 8:00 p.m., leaving many of us waiting outside in the cold. Once seated, the pacing felt off, with dishes arriving out of sequence, which gave the meal an oddly disjointed rhythm. A small apology or update from the staff would have been welcome, but none came. Overall, the food was very tasty, and I would consider returning -- particularly to explore more of their seafood offerings.

So mum wanted to show her appreciation for being her chauffeur taking her around to the doctors…read more She took me out for dimsum and with it being in Richmond there is a plethora of choices. She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. Yes come on a date or impress business clients/boss or family celebrations.

I have many Chinese friends in Vancouver, and my last visit to Kirin Richmond was in July 2024…read more This time, it was my birthday, and my friends insisted on treating me to Kirin Richmond once again. On a typical Sunday evening, the restaurant is usually fully occupied, but my friend had thoughtfully made a reservation a week in advance, so our table for five was ready upon arrival. As always, the restaurant was clean and well maintained, with good airflow thanks to the wide-open front entrance facing the parkade. The front desk receptionist greeted us cordially, and we were escorted to a cozy table in a comfortable location -- not too close to the washrooms, which I appreciated. Our meal began with the Kirin Special Assorted Cold Appetizer, followed by Crab Meat, Dried Scallops, and Fish Maw Soup. The soup arrived piping hot and was delicious, with a generous portion that could easily have served eight people. We also enjoyed Pea Tips Braised with Bean Curd and Assorted Mushrooms in Consommé, Marinated Free-Range Crispy Skin Chicken, Fillet of Cod Sautéed with Seasonal Vegetables, and Live Crab in Consommé with Ginger and Green Onion, served with E-fu Noodles. Overall, the quality and taste of every entrée were excellent. Service was top-notch -- tea and hot water were refilled constantly, bones and used plates were replaced promptly, and the servers were friendly and engaging throughout the evening. My friend and his family have apparently been regulars at this location for over two decades, which likely contributed to the exceptional attentiveness we received. However, one aspect of the experience genuinely disturbed me. All servers, including the captains, continued to wear masks at all times. While this practice was understandable two years ago, now -- five years after the onset of the pandemic, with COVID-19 managed similarly to other seasonal respiratory illnesses -- the continued universal masking in a fine-dining environment feels unnecessary and detracts from the overall guest experience. Fine dining, in my view as an avid foodie, is built on human connection, hospitality, and personal interaction. Masks create a more impersonal, almost clinical atmosphere. In a well-ventilated space like this, the environmental risk does not seem to justify the visual and social trade-off. Rather than providing reassurance, the persistent masking may unintentionally signal that the environment is unsafe or that management is out of step with current provincial health guidelines, where masking is now a personal choice rather than a mandate. Final verdict: Food & Service: 5/5 Ambience: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 -- as the current aesthetic feels more like a relic of 2020 than a leader in 2026 hospitality.

New Town Bakery is one of those Chinatown staples that feels like a rite of passage in Vancouver…read more We headed there for breakfast, excited for pastries and a classic bakery experience, and decided to dine in. Once we sat down and were handed the full menu, though, I had a brief moment of panic. The menu is huuuge and varied, plus none of the items I had mentally planned on ordering were on there. We pivoted and ordered pork siu mai, congee, look fun noodles, and a few steamed buns (they're especially known for those). The congee, noodles, and siu mai were all fine--very standard, not particularly memorable. In fairness, they weren't what I came for in the first place, so that probably shaped my expectations. The real standouts were the pork asado siopao and the chicken deluxe (bola bola). Both have Filipino roots, and the siopao especially brought a comforting sense of familiarity--soft, fluffy, and filled with that sweet-savory pork that felt like home. Those alone made the visit worthwhile. They actually have quite a few other Filipino influenced items like hopia and puto which was surprising. Ironically, it was only after we left that I noticed the sign on the window highlighting their most popular items--exactly what first-timers should probably stick to. I had ordered a few pastries to go with the intention of trying them later... and then completely forgot about them, which I'm still a little sad about. Overall, it was a good visit with a clear lesson learned: go in with a game plan and order the hits. It's a beloved Vancouver institution for a reason, and I'd definitely recommend stopping by--just know it's cash only and do a little pre-order research so you can make the most of it. I'd give it more like a 3.5 vs a 4 star, but I'm already planning a redo focused purely on the classics.
