I found this place on Google and came to a 40 year old looking small shopping center to a second floor Asian food court with old people and delinquent school skipping looking people at the seating tables (it's Friday, but maybe they had the day off cause Family Day weekend). The first floor had stores in the walkway and they were equipped with make shift roofs because the actual roof of the shopping center leaks. The chef at this dumpling shop was a a friendly bald uncle with a shokz headphone. There were some elementary school age kids chilling and watching an iPad in front of the food shops. The bathroom nearby had misspelled instructions on each of the stalls. There is a small trading card game shop on the first floor managed by a former delinquent who encourages the kids not to skip school like he did. That is to say, this place is EXCELLENT Chinese food vibes. I had the pork and cabbage Xiao long bao and also the pork and chives boiled dumplings. They were both remarkably similar to each other, and that's a good thing for me, because they were both very good. The dumplings in general were juicy and retained their liquids well, and the flavor was wholesome and not too salty. Simple and clean is the way that the food made me feel, and it's hard to let it go. Anyway, in short, good stuff. Highly recommend.

Spicy Sour Mala Beef Noodle Soup with Dumpling Sampler in back

I wasn't expecting a lot when I arrived at the semi-empty Robson Public Market on a rainy afternoon. The building is only half-filled with a bunch of random business, but upstairs in their food court are 3 diehard business that aren't giving up on the market. I headed to Nine Dumpling where a friendly woman was just opening up at noon. I ordered the sour Mala beef noodle soup and sampler dumpling plate (steamed). In about 15 minutes, I was enjoying the piping hot soup, spicy with a sheen of hot oil and chili. A generous helping of tender beef, noodles and a few pieces of green veggies. The dumpling were great with thin homemade skin and lots of filling. My favorites were lamb with zucchini and pork with green pepper. I thought the scallop and fish was interesting, but did not like the vegan dumpling. Dumplings were served with a black vinegar.

Top: pork and cabbage dumplings. Bottom: lamb & zucchini dumplings. Both juicy and delicious!

The hubby and I dropped by for a weekend lunch. While the market building seems to be on its last legs, the food at Nine Dumplings was still very good. The hubby had the pork and cabbage dumplings and the lamb and zucchini dumplings. Both were delicious and very juicy. Again, a note to newbies: please gently take a small, tiny bite into the dumpling to make a hole, suck some of the juice out, then continue eating. If you just chomp into it, you will be spraying yourself and whoever is sitting around you with hot dumpling juice! As for me, I had their sour & spicy mala beef noodle soup (again). It was still very delicious, although maybe not quite as magical as it has been in the past, but still, very tasty and satisfying. I suspect the cook reduced the heat level down as I wasn't Chinese, which was fine for me. At first I thought they had reduced the amount of beef, but no, most of it was just hidden under the noodles - there was plenty of beef, albeit not quite as succulent as in the past. But the flavours were very good. I've noticed that their menu is smaller, I presume because they aren't that busy in this location.

The best dumplings in the city! The seaweed salad was delicious as well. Friendly service and clean foodcourt. A real gem in the west end neighborhood.

Came to this place based on the reviews - we wanted a quick snack. We got the dumplings and the dan dan noodles. Food was very authentic and tasty. The dan dan noodles were in a very delicious peanut sauce. Would have given a 5 but the ambience and service were not that great - we had to ask multiple times to get silverware, water etc. Overall a super tasty Chinese spot in Vancouver

This place was on my list from my last visit when we were doing a dumpling food tour . Unfortunately, it was closed the day we came due to family matters. So, this time, made sure to call and check to see if they were open and they were! We came for dinner and it was a very quiet place. It's on the 2nd floor and there was one other restaurant that was opened. Aside from the dumplings, they have a variety of noodle dishes as well. There was just the owner and his wife that runs the place. We got the sampler of the dumplings as well as a spicy peanut butter noodle with chicken dish. Everything was made fresh to order so it is a little slow but not too bad. For the dumplings, you can choose from 4 different styles (Xiao long BAO, traditional, in a soup, or. Spicy oil). Sampler of dumplings: for $9 Canadian you get 9 plump dumplings are of different fillings (see pics for details). I love how each has its own color and the menu is also color coordinated to match as well. My favorite was definitely the fish with scallops dumplings as well as the pork and chives. The vegan on was definitely the most unique though. Although we got the traditional version, there was soup inside these as well. 5 star The noodle dish was ok. The flavor was good but it was too much sauce that made it on the saltier side. The cucumber helped but definitely needed more. Also, there should be a little more meat. 3 star Overall, I'm happy to tried the place and it was fun to taste all the different fillings.

Tucked away at the Robson Public Market food court, Nine Dumplings serves up delicious dumplings that always satisfy my dumpling cravings. They are nice and juicy, and the flavours are always rich. My go-to's are #1 pork and cabbage and #2 pork and chives.

Unfortunately, the food here was disappointing. I really wanted to like it, but prices were high and the taste was bland. It seemed like it was made for non-Chinese in mind, so when I ordered my dumplings with chilli oil, I could barely taste the mala or any spicy at all. $10 for 6 small dumplings was also incredibly disappointing. Overall I would not recommend. On a positive note, the food court was pretty deserted, so if you want a quiet spot to have a bite, pay the place a visit.

This place is tucked away in the food court on the second floor of a fairly unassuming/dead shopping center (Robson Public Market), but don't let that deter you--it's totally worth the stop! This place offers counter service, and you can eat at one of the food court tables, or get your food to go. The owner and his wife run the place, and on the day we went, it was just the owner running the place--taking orders and cooking. We got the dumping sampler (9 dumplings) plus an order of chuanbei liangfen (spicy Szechwan jelly noodles.) Both were delicious and very fresh (made to order!) I appreciated being able to try many different flavors of dumplings, and the flavors of the noodles were great--savory and salty and spicy.

Chive and pork dumplings with chilli oil
    Stephanie M.

We ordered the chive dumpling with chilli oil. They told us it would be a 15 minute wait. The chilli oil isn't really spicy so I definitely would recommend getting it with it. The skin is the perfect thickness (not too thick) and nice and chewy. The filling is juicy and had SO MUCH CHIVES. If you like chives, you should try this. Overall - This would make for a great snack. This place is definitely another hidden gem. The price isn't cheap but not bad to try it once

Delicious dumplings at an affordable price. Many vegan options. Quick and courteous service. Because it's at a food court, the ambiance isn't all that great, there is plenty of seating though. Great for a quick meal.

Great hidden gem dumpling place! Located in a sketchy, quasi defunct looking food court on the 2nd floor of the Robson Public Market which has probably seen better days. A bit hard to find but food is worth it! Sampler dumpling plate: Green=pork and kim chi Pink=vegan Black =scallop and fish Yellow=lamb and zucchini Blue=pork and cilantro White=pork and chive Black and white=squid and pork/chives Green and white= pork and cabbage Red=pork and green pepper So many types of dumplings! I went with the sampler to try them all. It took me a few minutes to realize that the color of the number on the menu corresponds to the dumpling filling! They were all good but the stand outs in this round was the black scallop and fish, yellow lamb and zucchini and perhaps the green pork and kimchi. They ran out of the vegan ones so they gave me two green ones. Fried vegan balls (carrot and cilantro) nice tasty crispy appetizer! Dan dan noodles: generous serving with lots peanuts and just the right amount of mala seasoning to give great flavor without knocking out your taste buds. This location is pretty bare bones so dont expect a lot of ambience and there is no outside signage to indicate its location. There are some socially distanced tables available that is also shared with the legit looking Korean stand next door. Definitely worth a try!

With 9 different dumpling flavours, theres something for everyone! Theres even several vegetarian options. I ordered mine steamed, to go and it came with black vinegar which I poured over. I tried to choose a favourite dumpling to order again next time but I couldn't. There were too many of them that I liked! The seafood ones tasted particularly unique and memorable, but I think I prefer the traditional pork filings. If I go again, I'd like to try the spicy/Sichuan style...

A Gastronomic Awakening in Chinatown! You don't truly know…read moreuntil you go--and now that I've been, I'm haunted. As I write this, I am literally still dreaming of the Hong Kong Style BBQ Pork. It didn't just "eat" well; it dissolved into a decadent, sweet, fatty puddle of pure bliss. Walking in, the vibe is quintessential Chinatown: a bustling counter, a glass case showcasing glistening roasted treasures, and a seating area that trades fancy decor for pure, functional authenticity. We were clearly out of our element, probably looking like deer in headlights, but the staff met our confusion with warm smiles. Then came Bobby--the absolute heart and soul of this place. We walked in expecting the standard American-Chinese routine, but Bobby whisked us away to a cozy table and treated us like family. He started us off with a fragrant jasmine tea so naturally sweet and floral it didn't need a grain of sugar--perfect for a biting winter night. While we flirted with the Happy Hour menu, Bobby took the reins. You don't say no to a man with that much charisma and passion! On his expert recommendation, we pivoted to the Two-Meat Combo (BBQ Pork + Soy Chicken) with a side of their famous Roast Duck. The food arrived in a lightning-fast 10 minutes, but the real treat was Bobby's play-by-play on how each dish was prepared. You can taste the pride in every bite. The balance was masterclass: a symphony of sweet, salty, and umami. The meats were succulent, the skins were shattery-crisp, and the glazes were perfectly sticky. The undisputed heavyweight champion, however, was that Hong Kong BBQ Pork. Imagine the best "burnt ends" of your life, drenched in a caramelized, mouth-watering sauce that demands your full attention. We left Chinatown BBQ feeling more than just sated--we felt enlightened. If you're looking for a "one in a million" meal, let Bobby order for you. You won't regret it.

With about 9-10 people per table, we were treated to what felt like at least ten courses. There wasn't much time for photos, as conversation and catching up naturally took precedence. The standouts were the seafood fried rice and the green onion lobster and crab stir-fry -- rich, comforting, and generously flavoured, the kind of dishes that quietly anchor a long meal. It was a busy holiday weekend, and the restaurant was packed. Our original 7:00 p.m. reservation was delayed until 8:00 p.m., leaving many of us waiting outside in the cold. Once seated, the pacing felt off, with dishes arriving out of sequence, which gave the meal an oddly disjointed rhythm. A small apology or update from the staff would have been welcome, but none came. Overall, the food was very tasty, and I would consider returning -- particularly to explore more of their seafood offerings.
