Been coming here for more than 15 years and never disappoints. When Shao Lin was so popular with long line ups, I can here. When Peaceful Restaurant became popular due to being on Triple D, I came here. Decor is not fancy, but you come for the terrific food. This place is a blessing for the neighbourhood and serves many regular locals. Freshly made noodles, pan fried bun, lamb cumin noodles (must try!), Xiao Long Bao (XLB), wined chicken, beef rolls and cold noodles are always on my go to list. I took a friend who never been to Yu Xiang Yuan and he was pleasantly surprised and wants to come back very soon. On this visit we had: XLB, cumin lamb fried noodles, wonton soup, beef rolls, and flavored cold noodles with cucumber. All very reasonably prices and with good portion sizes. Different style of noodles: cutting noodles best for stir fried and pulling and dragging best for soup base. You can also see the chef making the noodles through the window before the kitchen read more

My uncle is an absolute star at finding these hidden gems. From the hand cut noodles to the golden crispy dumplings, this is the place for Chinese food. I gauge a great restaurant by the reviews. If they only complain about the service, it's going to be fantastic food. I guarantee it. read more

We came on a Saturday for lunch. There was no wait for a table. Food came quickly Pork cumin noodles ($17.95) - these noodles were nice and chewy. Good flavour and strong cumin flavours. Portion was standard Dan Dan noodles ($14.95)- most peanuty and wet Dan Dan noodles I've had in awhile. It could have had a bit more noodles as there was leftover sauce. Pan fried dumplings (21.95) - would not recommend this one. It wasn't crispy. The inside has a bit of juice. It's less like dumplings and more like buns. Kabob lamb (10.50) - these are so addictive. 10.50 is the price for 3. They are fatty well seasoned and so good. I would get this again I felt like the pricing is not bad for what you get. The flavours are all pretty good and the portions are pretty average. Service is fast read more

Came here recently to dine in with my family. We tried a number of variety of dishes. We had the cold chicken in spicy sauce and wine chicken. Both were yummy and we all really liked the wine chicken as you can really taste the wine. The pan fried buns were delicious and were juicy. This is the only restaurant we can find pan fried buns. The big bowl of noodle soups with fresh hand stretched noodles were perfectly el dente. We had one with thin noodles and another is thick dragging noodles. Great value for around $15 a bowl. We didn't try any fried noodles as we were all full already. I'll definitely come back to try the pan fried cumin lamb noodles. Service was good too. read more

Personal favourite hidden gem! The cutting curry noodles of my dreams that has me making an order every time I am close by.

This place was recommended to us by someone we had met while dining in another restaurant. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very comfy inside. The glassed in booth on the back is where the chef cranks out handmade noodles (pulled, dragging, cutting noodles) and dumplings. I believe it's the same chef that used to be at Shaolin Noodle. Absolutely awesome biang biang noodles. Tender and meaty dumplings, best enjoyed with black vinegar and chili oil. A truly outstanding item is the lamb skewers with cumin and chili. So good that we ordered a second portion! Excellent quality and value. We are Chinese food nerds and know the good stuff when we see it! read more

Been a patron of this chef's food for more than 20 years, since his days cooking at Shao Lin. For vegetarians and vegans, at least, his authentic noodles, dumplings, scallion pancakes, etc. are THE BEST. He makes pan fried veggie dumplings the size of your fist that taste incredible! I've eaten the Asian food in Asia, Europe and all over North America and this is hard to beat for the dishes he makes that are veg. Vancouverites are lost if they don't know this. Peaceful is great but it has nothing on this!!! read more

Wow. Who knew this restaurant that isn't eye catching at all offered such good food!! I'm normally too much of a fan of traditional Chinese food as I find them to be too greasy and salty. This one did not fit into my stereotype! In terms of ambience, there isn't much in the restaurant. No interior decoration. We sat right in front of a chef hand rolling the wrappers for the dumplings. It was fun to watch him. The staff was also attentive. My family came here for dinner one day as my brother was such a big advocate of their lamb pot. Here is what we ordered: 1) Cold skin noodles - if you love the texture than you'd love it. The noodles are not your usual starchy texture but a "springy" and slippery texture. They were served cold and the sauce was delicious. 2) Fried cutting noodles - this one I did not love as much simply because it was a lot drier than what i'm used too. Nonetheless, it wasn't greasy and the flavor was good. 3) drunken chicken - I love chinese drunken anything dishes. The wine flavor of this chicken was strong, exactly how I like it. My own complaint was that there wasn't too much meat on the chicken and they were cut so thinly. 4) Pan fried pork dumplings - my 2nd favorite dish of the night. They were soooo good and probably one of the best I've tasted. Firstly, the dumpling skin was fried to perfection where it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The meat cluster had hints of ginger and seasoning was on point. Normally, when I order dumplings, I'll dip them in vinegar; however, their version didn't need additional sauces! 5) Special lamb hot pot - this one was the highlight of the dinner and main reason why we were here. I normally cannot stand the taste of lamb in stews or soups; however, this lamb had no gamey taste. The hot pot came with veggies, tofu and lamb. The soup was perfect. It was spicy but not too spicy. It was very flavorful and both the veggies and tofu were soaked in flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant although you probably need more people in your party otherwise you won't be able to order a variety. read more

I was looking for the best place for Chinese cumin lamb skewers since 3 places I tried had not much flavor. Someone recommended me this place. The skewers were bigger but also cost more @$2.75/skewer so I guess the price is the same as other skewer places that cost $1.50-2. It did look like it had a lot of seasoning but it was mostly spicy flavor and not enough cumin. Definitely better than other places I have tried but not better than the best I've had, which was the Chef James Xin Jiang Man BBQ at the Richmond Night Market. Next was the dan dan mian. Dan dan mian has a billion varieties and you'll never know what you get when you order. The one here was drier, not very nutty nor spicy, but very savory. I liked the texture of their hand pulled noodles. I prefer very nutty and soupy so I cant say much. My friend loved it. The dumplings are fantastic here. I love thick skinned hand made dumplings. We got the pork and bakchoy amd it was so juicy inside. Definitely will be back for the dumplings. Will keep looking for lamb skewers though. read more

First of all don't go with preconceived ideas about what typical Chinese food is. This place specializes in northern Chinese cuisine. They have this amazing display where you can watch them make the noodles by hand. I've attached a few videos. -garlic zucchini: amazing sesame sauce and it's got quite a kick. !! Don't order Shanghai food because that's not what they specialize in - hot and sour soup doesn't not have enough sourness and they put Chinese parsley in there which is not the traditional Shanghai cuisine -all sorts of noodles are very authentic and you can really appreciate the fact that they are handmade Good lively atmosphere and really hearty food read more

My mom is a huge fan of this restaurant, so it's a place we frequent when I visit. Their pan fried dumpling is amazing, I prefer the meat version, but you can order half & half to get a taste of the vegetable version; ingredients are good, the bun is fluffy, be warned the portion is big and can be a meal on its own. My mom loves the pork belly with salted vegetable pot, everything taste fresh, I do recommend having this in the restaurant as take out doesn't taste nearly as good for some reason. Another dish that is very enjoyable is the stir-fried noodle, appetizer cucumber, and the very very well made beef roll. read more

We wanted noodles one evening so decided to try Yu Xiang Yuan. They make their own noodles in-house with 5 types (pushing, cutting, dragging, round and stewed noodles). They're next door to Shoom Restaurant. We dropped in on a Sunday evening (around 6:45pm). It wasn't too busy but quite a few tables were occupied. Service is actually good as the waitresses are efficient and constantly come by with hot tea. Go up to the counter to pay when you're done eating. The menu is massive with new cuisine, Yu Xiang Yuan specialties, fried noodles, noodles in soup, sauce noodle, flavoured noodles, rice dishes, delicious snacks, wonton and dumplings, cold dishes, vegetables, meat, griddle cooked & red stew and soup. There was also a sheet for new rice noodle series. Stick to their noodle options. Awesome that they bring out a pair of scissors so that you can cut the noodles. - Dragging noodles with meat & vegetables (cumin flavour) (#2) ($12.95) - this is one of their specialty dishes. Noodles had a good chew but M found the flavours to be too one-dimensional. - Stewed noodles with lamb & vegetable soup (#24) ($10.95) - the broth was bland and didn't have much lamb in it. The noodles are wide and flat but I could have used a springier, bouncier bite. - Dan-dan noodle (#27) ($9.95) - broccoli, bean sprout and pork. We opted for the round noodles. This was our favourite dish of the night; spicy, peanutty and well balanced. - Steamed lamb & vegetable dumplings (#62) ($11.95 for 12) - lamb wasn't very gamey and texture was too mushy. The wrapping lacked a bite. We should have tried the chicken with special hot sauce (#65) instead. Debit or cash only. YXY was decent but nothing we're craving. read more

I came here after wanting to try out their different noodles and although the service was lovely and the food was reasonably priced, there was too much noodle in comparison to protein/vegetables advertised. We had the: Cutting noodle in soup with chicken and vegetables - This had a gingery soup base with a huge bowl of chewy and "qq" noodles. The main problem was that there were some very tiny pieces of chicken and hardly any vegetables. Disappointing unless you want a bowl of carbs only. Pan fried dumplings - not to be confused with the more expensive ones, these were essentially pork and veggie potstickers. I quite liked the flavour of the filling and the wrapper had a nice bite to it. There was only a tiny bit of juice on the inside but they were enjoyed by the table. House fried pushing noodle with chicken - This came to the table last so we were a bit full already but the ration of carb to ingredients was a lot better with some cabbage, broccoli, and chicken chunks fried with a nice and chewy thiner noodle. The flavours of this dish were a mixture between curry, cumin and spicy sauce but it wasn't too bad! Zha zhiang noodle (pork sauce noodle) - This one we got with the dragging noodle which was a good choice as it had the best ability to soak up the sauce. I found it again lacking in ground pork and the sauce a little oily it was quite tasty and nothing to salty or impactful. Overall, the prices are reasonable but there were just TOO MANY CARBS. If you love noodles though, this place is for you! Plus, the server was really nice and the noodles are clearly handmade in the back! read more

Some of the best noodles I've had in town. And many vegetarian (indeed, vegan) options to choose from. First, a quick word about ordering. I tried ordering through their website, but noticed that on the page to pay, they had tacked some extra fee (an additional 10% or so -- not a tip) that wasn't quoted previously. So I scrapped that, and ordered off SkipTheDishes for pick-up, which didn't have that extra fee. I ordered their Szechuan Spicy Green Beans ($16.95) and their Dan Dan Noodles ($12.95) with "cutting noodles", without the pork to make it vegetarian/vegan. My order was ready for pick-up 20 minutes later. The green beans were wonderfully cooked, coated in the perfect amount of chili peppers, a savoury soy sauce-like sauce, and plenty of garlic. Delicious. The cutting noodles were absolutely sublime -- chewy and starchy in the best of ways. Unlike many dan dan noodle dishes I've had, this came with broccoli, which is a nice touch. There was also plenty of thin tofu skin strips and the mandatory crushed peanuts. Haven't had many dan dan noodle dishes this good. All in all, I was super happy with this place. I'll definitely be returning. EDIT: I've been back a couple times. Their noodles are indeed consistently top-notch. Their other dishes are less impressive, but still stellar. Try their noodles! read more

Great food for an affordable price in Vancouver. The service is incredible as well, with the waiters being very nice and friendly.

Yu Xiang Yuan Restaurant is located on Fraser Street & 50th. It has sign of advertising Chinese handcrafted noodles in front of the restaurant. We went there for lunch on Sun noon, they're getting busy after we got seated. We saw the tables around us dishes were so delicious and portion was huge!! The staffs weren't helpful and attentive! We finally ordered few dishes as we wanted to try... Mouthful chicken in chili oil - The chicken was ok and served in cold, but the chili oil was not spicy at all. Tan tan noodles - a lot of peanut butter sauce and a little ground pork on top of noodles. The handcrafted noodles were good and fresh. Just not bouncy enough. Steamed pork dumplings - Rough and fatty pork and think "skin" dumplings. Is that Northern style dumplings? Pan fried dumplings - It was very crispy but greasy! It's good and filling. Double cooked pork with mixed vegetables - Fatty thin sliced pork with a lot of onion instead of cabbage. Personally, I don't like northern Chinese food either too much starch or too greasy. Probably return in 6 months after.... read more

Small little authentic neighborhood gem . The Biangbiang noodles, are excellent. Nothing fancy but large fairly priced food

One of the B E S T Shanghai restaurants in Vancouver!!! We tried the following and highly recommend :) - Pan Fried Dumplings -- extremely fresh dough - Xiao Long Bao -- Very soupy - JaZiang Mein -- Hand-pulled; speechless - Chicken Corn Soup -- Very sweet and creamy :) - Hand stretched pancake -- Best we've ever had - Diced Cashew Chicken -- Large pieces and very juicy!!! Everything was very generously portioned and we were very blown away by the quality of their dishes. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys Shanghai food. We will definitely be ordering from here at least once a week! read more

Their fried cutting noodles are the bomb!! And they're priced pretty well too. The pulling noodles in beef soup are good as well, the noodles are a very nice texture and soup fragrant (though it was slightly on the bland side, would have liked a bit more flavor). The pan fried dumplings aren't bad but the portion is massive. Wouldn't recommend it unless you have at least 6 people to share it with srs. *Review migrated from another platform read more

I've been going here for years since I lived very close by, and never knew what Xian food was until I came here. The menu is full of many delicious dishes and you are bound to find something you enjoy. I have way to many favourite dishes from this restaurant but here is a few of my must haves: - Garlic fried broccoli (5/5) If you hated vegetables before this you are going to fall in love. I have no idea what they do with this broccoli but man its delicious. Garlicky, salty in a good way, and I think they use chicken stock to flavour it as well. - Noodle soup with beef and vegetables (4/5) This bowl of soup is everything you want, warm hardy and satisfying. Add a little bit of hot chili oil, extra slices of ginger and SLURP away. - Eggplant hotpot (5/5) This dish is oh so fragrant a great mixture of sweet, sour, and savoury. The perfectly cooked eggplant with a mixture of vegetables and thin slices of pork is amazing. read more

Good, hearty, filling food at affordable prices! I went here with a friend a few weeks ago, and for starters I always have to try beef rolls whenever they're available. They're pretty good here - not the most flavourful I've had, but good to eat nonetheless. My understanding is the place's claim to fame are the cutting noodles, and they were definitely pretty good - the dish we got made them the star and they were pretty good at soaking up the flavours of the meat and vegetables, though I did feel like overall the dish was a bit noodle-heavy for my taste. I know that's the point though, of course! To me the secret star of the meal was actually the pan-fried dumplings. These aren't just fried jiaozi - this is something I've never seen anywhere else. The dumpling dough is fluffy, almost like a bao, but the dumplings are fried together in a pan such that they all stick together like a huge bubble waffle and you essentially tear off individual dumplings. Between the spongy dough with a crispy fried bottom and the tasty pork filling, these things were amazing, and to my friend's shock I ate almost the entire dish myself. Worth it! Would definitely come back for another go at the pan-fried dumplings, and maybe to try some other noodle styles. read more

Came here on a whim not knowing to expect. For two people, we ordered soup dumplings, dan dan noodles, and the house special noodles. The portions were big and only less than $15 per noodle dish. We ordered enough for 4 people. You can choose different cuts of noodles as they make them in-house. Both noodle dishes had a nice chewy texture. The dan dan was saucy, had peanuts and a slight Szechuan numbing spice to it. The house special was a very savory, pan fried dish. The soup dumplings were standard, meaty and juicy. It satisfied my dumpling craving. Overall, my friend and I really liked the food and is definitely worth coming back for. read more

some of the yummiest, most authentic chinese food out there. the owners are so kind and make every visit such a sweet experience!

Their handmade noodles are good as you don't see too many places that still do this. I found that when I ordered online for takeout, the noodles were clumpy however when I ate there, it wasn't. Not sure if it's due to the time for me to go pick up or not as when I ordered online, it said it would be ready in about 15 minutes. I got there around that time but maybe it was done earlier. I also had the eggplant in spicy garlic sauce hotpot and szechaun style fried shredded beef. They were really good, spicy but good. If you don't like spicy, you can ask them to use less spice. It does get busy on weekends and sometimes at night but I was lucky when I went as there were still some free tables. The outside looks mediocre as it's sandwiched between a dry-cleaner and physiotherapy clinic. There are other restaurants nearby and the block as different businesses. read more

3.9 Stars There is free parking along Fraser street and some within the residential area. Be aware of the marked permit spots. First impressions, not that big of a restaurant, seating is a little crammed, there is a big glass window in the back where you can watch the chef hand make noodles and dumplings. We walked in at 630pm on Friday night. It was pretty busy, but we lucked out and got a table right away. We ordered: Lamb Kabobs - very good, meaty and tender, seasoned with a delicious spicy, cumin mix. Beef Roll - very flavorful and tender beef. Nice crispy outer shell. Steamed Pork and Chive Dumplings - good flavour and pretty big dumplings. Yu Xian Specialty Beef Pushing Noodles - love the texture of the fresh noodles, a fair amount of beef and a good amount of heat. * Handmade meh * I can sum up this place with, "Just because something is handmade doesn't make it good." Approaching this newish handcrafted noodle house I noticed a sign that looked very familiar - the same photo of a female chef that is used for all the Peaceful Restaurants. Don't know how that happened - if they are related somehow, or if it is a default photo from Photoshop, or.....? Anyhoo..... They served "tea" to start. I put that in quotes because it was slightly coloured water. No flavour of tea at all. Seriously? Come on. That was a big warning sign to start - a Chinese restaurant that doesn't serve a good quality properly brewed tea gets me nervous. I ordered the cumin lamb cutting noodles. The noodles were of varying thickness (more so than would be normal) which resulted in very uneven cooking. Some were still a bit floury on the inside, while others had already become mushy. They were coated in an excessive amount of oil. There was very little cumin and chili flavour - perhaps the watery tea was stronger than the cumin and chili that would normally be in this dish. There was a slight hint of Szechuan peppercorn, which was a nice touch, and the biggest redeeming factor of the dish. The veggies in the dish were all overcooked and mushy. The lamb had been soaked in a salt bath of some sort so it was overly salty and artificially tender. Overall this just was not a good dish: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/yu-xiang-yuan-vancouver?select=zj1-YokZOoHoo0PwsmlkAg#SMqZ4dgxZ9yz6UqMAq9S5Q Overall, even though everything was handmade it was simply meh. read more

First off, I think someone needs to clarify that this place isn't a "Shanghai-nese" place. This is Northern Chinese cuisine which is another category on its own. Having lived in Beijing for half a decade and having personally experienced northern China's distinct tastes and flavours, my take on this place is that it is bang on and authentic with the all the dishes I have missed back in Beijing. My favourite dishes that I would recommend, made just like I remembered are: - Fried Lamb with Cumin (hot) - Flavoured Starch Noodles with Shredded Chicken (FYI for those who haven't had this dish before: This dish uses the clear, wide, flat noodles, mixed with peanut sauce and vinegar. Minced garlic usually goes with it, but the server usually asks if you want it added or not) - Cold noodles mixed with chilli/garlic sauce While the various types of noodles may confuse you, my standbys as a noodle lover is the cutting noodles (for those who like their noodles chewier) and the dragging noodles. Their portions are decent and often bigger than expected Great price for authentic Northern Chinese food! read more

Back in 19** when the hubbaroni and I were first dating, he wanted to test the Foodie Adventurer Potential in me so he took me to a Chinese restaurant in Vancouver and - not shockingly - I passed the screening! Since then, we've frequented that same place for nearly two decades because, well, it's sentimental and, well, it's GOOD! Fast forward nearly 20 (!) years and we're trying to branch out and try new spots. Enter Yu Xiang Yuan. I found this spot by entering "soup dumplings" and "Vancouver" into my Yelp app. The first spot that popped up is one we recently had a negative experience at, so we headed to the second one. Thank you Yelp app! Located in a nondescript little row of shops and restaurants on Fraser St., this is not a place I would have found on my own. But it is a gem! First of all, this place is clean. Now, if you're a frequenter of ethnic restaurants in YVR you know this isn't necessarily always the case. The decor was light and bright, with a big window looking into the kitchen where they hand-make all of their noodles. Yes, hand-made Chinese noodles. Yum! We ordered the green onion pancakes, pork xiao long bao (soup dumplings), and a bowl of soup featuring pork, pickled vegetables, and dragging noodles (you get to pick which noodle style you want). The pancakes did not disappoint; they were filled with fresh green onions and crispy hot on the outside. The soup was absolutely delicious. One bowl was more than enough to fill us up, and the dragging noodles - as several Yelpers had mentioned - were divine. The pickled vegetables were a unique, but not overwhelming, component and the pork was very tender. The xiao long bao were decent (a little tough, though, and not much soup in them), but I wouldn't return just for those. I'd return for the noodles, though, and the pancakes. Service was also prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere was not too loud during a Tuesday evening dinner rush. The best part was when we got our bill - just over CAN$18 which was a pretty sweet deal, especially considering the current favorable exchange rate. read more

Over-shooting our desired location for lunch I ended up past 49th attempting to turn back North but then saw this place shining at me like a food truck in the middle of the desert, yes... we were hungry.... did I say it was lunch? I was with the 'nomnomnomnivore' and we stood outside looking at the menu, the interior, and pulling up the trusty app to know what the heck we were getting ourselves into, pictures tell a thousand mouth watering words, and everyone who posted a shot here looked great, and so we walked in and seated right away. Entering this place, you are not coming for any of the decor, this is your simple cheap out of the box type restaurant where even the specials that weren't placed on the menu are printed from a color bubble jet on regular paper and stuck to the wall, to deem this a hole in the wall... it's not that scum like to put, it's actually comfortable in here. And while we were looking at the vast menu we decided on a few items at the same time the server (or part owner?) looked over as I was checking out pictures of the cumin lamb sticks they have here... and asked if I would like to have any, a plus for an observant eye... and onto the food! I had a craving for the onion pancake and was surprised that it wasn't the normal, get from your local T&T freezer, looking ones that were very thin and dry. They were plump and fluffy, with a nice golden outlook, and very filled with chopped onions stacked like pieces of pizza slices, each bite was nice and soft, yet hot. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it, and wanted to eat more, yet knowing there was plenty more food to come and not to let this expand in my stomach. The XLB's came next, plopped in a small steamer, 6 suckers that probably expanded from the heating process as they were each touching eachother, when I see this I use extra care and caution when lifting these suckers away from their original home. The wrapping of these things were thicker than the standard ones I have tried, yet it kept in a good amount of the broth on each dumpling. The broth was well seasoned with ginger, it was good, but this wasn't the reason I came in here. The last item was the pork and chive dumplings, and when we ordered it our waiter asked if we wanted sour soup with it, we enquired what this was for and he advised that most Notherner's usually have this soup with their dumplings (hey, might as well try something new to us!) but said the choice was up to us, so as anyone who would try new things... we did just that. When these things hit the table you could definitely tell they were handmade... the imperfections of each not looking like it's sibling were apparent which always makes me happy, as it really doesn't matter how the food looks, cause in the end it is the taste. Each of these 12 dumplings on the plate were flavourful, a little strong on the sodium but this is where the soup came into play. Each one packed with enough balance of dough from the outer layer and meaty pork.... and flavoured with chives, munch munch and soon enough all gone. Because of the natural fats that would be coming out of the ground pork usually you would feel a little 'slow' after eating all these... hence the soup, which worked like drinking strong tea at dim sum, to cut the grease of your meal, and the slight sourness to bring your appetite back to eating another pocket size treat. Not an area I would think of to find dumplings, let alone Northern Chinese food (correction to the reviewer who said something about this being a Shanghainese restaurant!) but a place I would think of to come back and try their hand pulled noodles, this was shown on the back of their menu, and the cumin lamb skewers that I still think of... until next time they say! read more

I've been wanting to try this place out for awhile as its really close to where i live. I'll just put it out there that I lived in Shandong for a year so I do have some expectations for northern Chinese food. What we ordered: - fried cutting noodle with lamb: i love chewy noodles so i enjoyed it! they do a decent job and you get a good amount of noodles. I really enjoy this dish so i would order it again but I will have to be honest and say that i've had better in richmond - xiao long bao: these are not bad. they are really big, meaty and not dry. However, they do not have that wonderful pocket of soup that most have so that is a disappointment. - Lamb Kabob: not bad! would order these again. I haven't tried too many restaurants with these types of kabobs so i don't know what to compare the pricing to as these were $1.50/skewer. - coke: only $1! you can't order a can of coke at many places for only $1 now adays. Overall, I would definitely go back to this place again. It's cheap and really convenient for me which is a plus. read more

This is a quaint little place at the south end of Fraser, just after 49th. My friend and I ventured out here on a whim and suggestion. The restaurant itself is moderate in size but what makes this place truely remarkable is the fact they do hand pulled/shaved noodles and a giant window in which you can watch the magic happen. The cuisine and taste is mainland Chinese, with a strong emphasis on northern cuisine (Beijing). Since it was our first time, we asked for recommendations from our server. He recommended a bowl of lamb pulled noodle soup. Outside on the windows are pictures of some of the popular items they make. One of the pictures was a dish of suigao or steamed/boiled dumplings. There were many variations but most of them were common flavours, so i ordered the lamb + vegi one. When our food came, there was a strong sent of lamb and freshness. Personally, I was expecting something less flavourful from my dumplings but BAM! totally sent back in time to a sense of nostalgia. The dumplings were mixed with northern spices like cumin and carrots. Reminiscent of my days in shanghai where I ate one of the best food cart meat skewer of the same flavour. They didnt even require sauce because they were so flavourful. My friend's noodles were just as tasty, the soup rich with the stewed lamb and al-dante noodles. Much to her surprise, it also included a small mix of glass noodles too which was cool. The bowl of noodles was actually much more than she anticipated; in my eyes, it was about 1.5x the size of a regular ramen serving for the same price. I ended up eating some of it to help her but i didnt object, it was damn good. I question myself as I write this why this place didnt deserve a Five. Based on my first experience, it was magical and totally deserves it, but some hidden factor unknown to myself is telling me Four...Four and a half! But in retrospect, it really does deserve a Five. I urge anyone around the neighborhood or willing to try a new place to give it a shot. A nostalgic Four, out of Five! read more

Heard good reviews about this place so thought we would give it a shot. Ordered the dragging noodle in soup with lamb. It was ok-a little gamey. The cutting pan fried noodle with pork and pickled cabbage was very good. Will be back to try other dishes. Think I'll stick to the dim sum items and pan fried noodles. It is a hole in the wall. I think I might do take out next time. Prices for dishes range from $10-$12. Acceptable. They also take credit card! read more

Great noodles. Order the knife cut noodles. They're fresh and not overcooked. Avoid the busy rush hour and you'll be fine. Soup was not as hot as I like, and amount if meat was scarce for the money. Still, a good alternative in the neighbourhood. read more
