Vegan don bowl with pickled vegetables mixed in
Elizabeth T.

There on a Thursday and still a line out the door. Line moves quickly as they give you an order form while you wait in line. Don't plan to visit with your tablemates after you are done eating. They need your seat and will politely move you along. Tried two different vegan ramens. Both good. Consensus was the classic ramen broth was better. Tofu is only heated by being in the broth. Thin noodles were classic ramen. The mushrooms are mostly texture, not a flavor enhancer so could skip. Don bowls were nice but not needed. Ramen serving was generous. "Chairs" are wooden cubes that hinge open to put your coat inside, since space is limited. Staff: helpful and friendly Vibe: a bit loud but fast paced and efficient.

Danbo's classic tonkotsu ramen is SSS tier for me no doubt. I'm choosing light thickness & richness for broth, and there's no way you'd catch me with any soup left. Perfect post-ski meal heading down from Cypress and arrived just around 40 min before closing. They've definitely cleaned up their green onion toppings since 2019 and still remains an affordable ramen joint. Tasty tender chashu everytime, jammy egg does not miss. Gyoza is good (a bit pricey), service is great, interior is decently cozy for a quick bite. 5/5 ramen carries this rating! I'm here 90% for the ramen and 10% for vibes anyways. Love love love.

The wait is long but it's worth it! While in line, they hand you an order sheet and you can choose the type of ramen and customize it the way you like. Perfect for a cold and rainy day in Vancouver.

TL;DR First real ramen experience in 10 years and Ramen Danbo delivered hard. Went 2 nights in a row. The chashu is the star, the broth is creamy and comforting, and the jammy egg is unforgettable. Know your order before sitting down. If this is your first real ramen bowl, this is a great place to start. .................... .................... .................... .................... This was my first true ramen experience in nearly 10 years. I had one bad bowl in Seattle and then a lot of Top Ramen back in college and quietly wrote ramen off altogether. A tragic misunderstanding on my part. So yes, I'm new to traditional ramen. But I do know soup, and I definitely know pork, one of my favorite proteins. We ended up at Ramen Danbo 2 nights in a row. The first night, I assumed we just got lucky. The second night confirmed it wasn't a fluke. Now I understand the cult following. Here's what stood out immediately. The chashu is the reason to come here. I ordered extra Chashu-men, and I would recommend that without hesitation. Two slices is not enough. The pork is incredibly tender, silky, and rich without tipping into greasy. I didn't notice any fatty pieces. Night one, I genuinely didn't believe it could be that good consistently. Night 2 proved me wrong. It was just as good. The broth follows closely behind. Creamy, savory, and deeply comforting. After standing outside for about 30 minutes in PNW winter rain following the aquarium (worth it for the sea lion feeding), this bowl felt like exactly what my body needed. Rich, warming, and balanced rather than heavy. And the egg deserves its own mention. Jammy, creamy, and absolutely memorable. If you're someone who appreciates a good protein moment, this is one you'll remember long after the bowl is gone. The noodles did exactly what they needed to do. I went with thick noodles at standard firmness. They held up beautifully in the broth and complemented everything else without stealing the spotlight. How to Order (especially for your first bowl) This is not a place to decide at the table. You're given the menu while waiting outside, and the expectation is that you know your order when you're seated. That's how they keep the line moving. My order for a great first bowl: * Classic Ramen Bowl * No Rekkarise * Extra Chashu-men * Thick Noodles * Standard Firmness * Strong Broth Thickness * Rich Broth * A Little Karadare * Whole Egg * save room for extra chashu and skip the lunch special gyoza + Menus are handed out while you wait outside, so use that time wisely. Below is a quick breakdown. Classic Ramen Bowl The baseline and best way to understand what Danbo does well. No Rekkarise Controls pork fat so the broth stays rich but balanced. Extra Chashu-men If you're here for pork, don't hesitate. This is the standout. Thick Noodles Great with richer broth. Thin noodles are also solid if that's your preference. Standard Firmness Safe and approachable for a first visit. Strong Broth Thickness + Rich Broth Adds body and depth without turning heavy. A Little Karadare Just enough heat to add dimension. Whole Egg Non-negotiable. Elevates the entire bowl. Service Efficient, friendly, and clearly focused on flow. You're not rushed in a rude way, but the goal is obvious: get everyone fed well and keep the line moving. Both nights we waited about 10 minutes, and both times the line was outside. Ambiance Simple, warm, and functional. This place is about the bowl, not the decor. Final Thoughts I finally understand the cult following. Ramen Danbo isn't trying to impress you with trends or twists. It's executing the fundamentals extremely well, especially where it matters most. If this is your first real ramen experience, this is a fantastic place to start. And if you're here for the chashu, you'll understand why people come back the next night. Quick Broth Guide (very short + beginner-friendly) Tonkotsu: Creamy pork broth. Rich, comforting, and the easiest starting point. Shio: Lighter, salt-forward, and more delicate. Clean and simple. Shoyu: Soy-based, savory, and umami-forward without creaminess. If this is your first bowl, tonkotsu is the move. Once you get the basics, shio and shoyu make more sense.

Absolutely loved it! We probably spent more time outside waiting in line than inside eating:). This place seems to have an insane following. They give out their menus while waiting in line so its ready by the time you get a seat at a table. Your hot ramen bowl is served within 5 minutes of seating. It is fairly a quick in and out diningexperience once you are at a table. We tried the 2 vegan options and opted for them to be spocy with thin noodles. Portions are on the smaller side so we ordered extra noodles to add. It was fun to have on a cold night-no wonder ramen is so fanous in Vancouver! Service was okish. More like heres your order and thats it. Prices were reasonable.

OVERALL : After hearing some really amazing things about Ramen Danbo, I knew I had to try when I came across one during my most recent visit to Vancouver! There was a long line, so I expected to wait over an hour, but surprisingly it was just about 30-45 mins. The staff was really efficient with their entire operation from start to finish which really helped keep the line moving. The inside is small with some tables and counter seating; cozy and clean. They had 4 bases, Tonkotsu, Miso, Shio, and Negi-Goma. You can start with a broth and then customize with more toppings, how you want your noodles cooked, how rich you want the broth to be, etc. They also have sides and drinks. Overall, def one of my top new ramen spots! The chasu was melt-in-your-mouth, and the broth was rich with lots of flavor. The noodles were cooked perfectly as well! PARKING : We did not park here; stumbled upon this spot as we were walking. However there is paid street parking / garages nearby and public transportation available as well. It's in a busy area with lots of food and shops. FOOD/DRINKS : Spicy Miso - blend of two types of traditional Japanese miso -- this had really deep savory flavor. the spicy version was actually spicy, perfect for my spice lovers! Negi-Goma - sesame oil, specialty-roasted sesame seeds and fresh scallions -- this smelled sooooo good bc of the sesame! loved how unique this was and the green onions + sesame perfectly complimented each other. Mentaiko rice bowl (side) - a big bowl, considering this is a side! loved the savory mentaiko (fish roe), but wished there was a bit more since it was a good amount of rice. Hoping they open one in SoCal near me someday bc I am already craving another bowl!

Tonkatsu Ramen

I came here for lunch one day, was seated immediately, and ordered the lunch set special (Tonkatsu ramen + daily mini donburi + 2 half toppings). I thought the ramen was fantastically savory, the donburi was delicious (and actually a bit larger than I was expecting), and both the toppings that were already included and the ones I chose were great too. Service was friendly and attentive, the ambiance was relaxing, and there's a parking structure nearby.

First time in Canada and had the BEST ramen here ! I also never finish a bowl of ramen and downed the whole thing. The staff was really friendly and the wait wasn't that long! Definitely coming back on my next trip !

Classic, thin standard noodles, and standard soup.

After figuring out the menu and asking questions it was delicious. There was a line but it was moving, we were a family of four and we sat on the strip benches it was perfect. I love the seat benches which have a cubby to place your belongs. Overall, the food was satisfying. I believe it's a hot spot because people were lined up waiting to get in.

Danbo is a personal favorite in Vancouver. The rich flavor in the broth and the amount of spicy they add based on your preference is just out of this world! There's always a line and wait time so plan accordingly. Staff are super friendly and the service is great. It's always buzzing with great vibes. Every time I'm in Vancouver I get Danbo at least once.

We were told this was the best ramen in Vancouver, and I have to say, it really lived up to the hype! It was the only ramen we tried on this trip, but it held its own and reminded me a lot of Nagi Ramen in LA. The ordering system is similarly efficient and and food was delicious. We had already had dinner planned, but couldn't resist squeezing in this ramen stop as a "snack." We shared the tomato ramen and a cha siu rice bowl. Luckily, we didn't have to wait long for a table, just a short wait around 4 PM, which is a great off-hour to go. I also appreciated the clever storage inside the stools for bags and purses. The ramen broth and noodles were outstanding, it was rich, flavorful, and satisfying. The rice bowl wasn't the highlight, but still a nice option to have during lunch hours. If we hadn't already committed to dinner plans, I would've happily ordered a full bowl just for myself!

Favourite ramen , always a line if you don't want to wait come when it opens (11 am). Wait might take quite awhile if you have a group bigger than 4. Staff are always friendly and very efficient. Restaurant is a decent volume for conversations. Easy menu you fill out a paper with your order and it usually comes very fast. I always get sesame negi goma broth. Extra noodles is only $2 / $1 for a full / half order. They also have a stamp card , 5 ramens = free gyoza, 10= free ramen.

The ramen here tasted authentic and clearly crafted with care. I really appreciated how customizable everything was from the noodle thickness and firmness to the broth's richness. The restaurant runs like a well-oiled machine. The entire process was smooth and efficient from ordering to paying the bill. While the broth was flavorful and satisfying, the noodles lacked the texture and springiness I usually look for in great ramen.

Regular ramen with extra serving of noodles (half order only $1 CAD)

Stopped by Maruhachi on a Saturday lunchtime after our long commute from Seattle. this restaurant…read moreis tucked in a corner not too far from the main Robson street. Paid parking was not too hard to find on the Main Street but during busy dining hours it might be difficult. We got seated right away at the bar since there were no tables open and the service was quick. Traditional Japanese style ambiance and even the bathroom had rounded Japanese bowl sink. As someone who doesn't have chicken broth (paitan style) ramen, I was really looking forward to the original ramen I ordered but I was a bit disappointed in the flavor profile of the dish. The ramen had both chasu and seaweed paired with thin round noodles. The broth was creamy and had a hint of chicken flavor but even adding several rounds of their soy sauce/salt seasoning they have on the side to adjust your broth to your liking-- I found that the richness of the soup was not what I had expected from the reviews that I read prior to coming here. Overall, a bit disappointed in the flavoring of the broth but maybe we came on an off day. I would be willing to give it a shot again in the future if I had ramen cravings and given that it was very affordable ($11-15 per bowl with tip), but I would probably opt to try another place first.

Review #3 for 2026 I…read morereally wanted to like this place. I watched many videos and read reviews before coming here, but it just did not hit the spot. After a cold day of exploring Stanley Park, we felt that ramen would really hit the spot, so we went here not wanting to deal with a wait at Danbo with a hungry and tired toddler. There was NO wait when we arrived here and we were seated immediately... which for a place that was really hyped up, should had made us think twice. There was only 1 other party at the restaurant. Now, the workers were super nice and the food came out quickly and we did eat everything because we were starving. We all ordered the cha-shu tamago ramen, 2 of us got spicy and 2 of us non-spicy. It came with extra chashu and the soft boiled egg for about $20 Canadian. The bowl was a good size and there was a promo for free extra noodles while we were there. Everyone except me in our group took advantage of it because I was too full from my bowl. Now, the broth here is different from other places because it is chicken based and not pork based. Everything I had seen about this place promised the broth is every bit just as good as the pork bone broth... however, the broth we received looked flavorful, but was bland. It was completely bland. There was no richness to it, not even a hint. I don't know, coming from southern California, the flavor just was not there period. We did all eat our food because we were starving, but it for sure did not hit the spot at all. Maybe we got an off day? Otherwise our broth had literally zero flavor to it. We all wished we had tried the other ramen place instead right after trying our ramen. Would I come back? I will have to say definitely no. We do not live in Vancouver and I do not want to waste any meals on a place that did not taste good the first time we went.

If you're curious about the rest of their ramen lineup, the ramen flight is a fun way to try them out without committing to just one. Service has been attentive on my visits, and food comes out quickly, which is always appreciated. Last night, I tried their Dine Out Vancouver menu and thought it was excellent value. For $35, it included a Sapporo beer, five pieces of takoyaki, a bowl of Tonkotsu ramen, and mochi ice cream. It also happened to be Sake Friday, so we picked up a bottle at 50% off - hard to complain about that math. The ambience was generally fine, but the staff were doing a photoshoot for their new menu right beside our table. The lighting was extremely bright and the space felt cramped, and since the shoot lasted the entire duration of our meal, it became a bit distracting. The staff was very pleasant and helpful with menu suggestions. I ordered a vegan rice bowl, and my friend and I shared an order of the vegetable gyoza and an aburi cheesecake. The gyoza and rice bowl were great! The gyoza, which we ordered on the recommendation of our waiter when we told them we were looking for a vegetarian appetizer, were made with soy-based imitation meat that had a very meaty texture - simple but very tasty. The rice bowl also had the soy meat, but seasoned differently, with a more intense flavour, along with atsuage tofu and various vegetables. It was delicious and also seemed healthy. We liked the aburi cheesecake, but it was more lemony than we expected. The waiters who brought it out said the lemon was to cut the sweetness, but we actually felt like the lemon competed with the caramel flavour of the bruleed crust. The textures were amazing though. We really enjoyed our meal here and I wish I'd tried them sooner!

The unlimited rice/soup/cabbage is just icing on the cake. My dining partner had the Kake udon (pretty good, noodles good texture and slightly smaller strands than most places) and Menchi Cheese side - basically a pork meatball with cheese and deep fried katsu-style, served with katsu sauce. Excellent katsu, plus they have the consistency and reliability. $28-30/meal and its plenty of food for 1, especially with unlimited cabbage/rice/soup. Restaurant is nice and comfortable, good spacing and not cramped. Easy recommend. 5/5.
